Funeral services for Paul Franklin Vines, 67, Clanton, were held at Temple Assembly of God on Monday, April 8, 2002, with Rev. Wally Helfinstine officiating. Burial followed at Temple Assembly of God Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Vines was born on July 30, 1934, in Clanton, the son of the late Ernest F. Vines and the late Ethel Belle Mims Vines. He served in the Army and was employed in maintenance. He died on April 6, 2002, at his residence. Survivors include one daughter, Paula Mims, Clanton; one grandson, Matthew Mims, Clanton; two Granddaughters, Emily Mims and Karleigh Mims, both of Clanton; one sister, Elaine Foshee, Clanton; one brother, John David Vines, Clanton.

Reynolds, Willie Delores (Vines)
February 13, 1906 - February 16, 1998
Funeral services for Willie Delores Reynolds, 92, of Clanton are today, Feb. 20, 1998, at Clanton First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Trobaugh officiating. Burial is in Clanton City cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Reynolds was born Feb. 13, 1906, in Elmore County to the late James Vines and Hattie Guy Higgins. She was a homemaker. She died Feb. 16, 1998, at LaRocca Nursing Home in Tuscaloosa. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard Reynolds and Louise Reynolds of Tuscaloosa; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis H. Reynolds II and Martha Reynolds of West Covina, Ca.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Pall bearers are Bill Burnett, John Hollis Jackson, Sibley Reynolds, Bobby Lane, Morris Moates and Danny Alred. Honorary pallbearers are Evelyn Hardy and staff of LaRocca Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Omar L. Reynolds. The family requests memorials be made to Clanton First United Methodist Church of the Methodist Children's Home.

Wells, Gatsy Louisa (Vinson)
July 31, 1862 - February 17, 1934
Mrs. Gatsy Wells, age 71, died Sat. at her Home Clanton, Route 2, burial was at Poplar Springs. She was the widow of Ben H. Wells and was the daughter of Isaac W. Vinson who died in the Civil War and of Mrs. Ellafair Price Vinson. She was born 1862. Her Husband, Mr. Ben H. Wells died in 1905. She is survived by 3 Daughters, Mrs. Nettie Kicker of Columbus, Ga., Mrs. Nicie Kicker, Wife of G. C. Kicker of Clanton, Mrs. Lula Blalock of Clanton, 2 Sons, Ben H. Wells of Clanton and J. Vinson, John Huff
January 07, 1860 - August 28, 1939
John H. Vinson, age 80, died at his home in the Friendship Community Monday. burial was at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Julia Belle Dennis Vinson, 2 Sons, Sam and Herman, 3 Daughters, Mrs. Lena Armstrong, Mrs. Eual Martin of Clanton, Mrs. Ellis Martin of Birmingham, 3 Brothers, A. P., N. A., and E. J. Vinson. His First Wife was Miss Mary Frances Kicker, two of the above named Children, Sam and Mrs. Cecil Armstrong were by his First Wife. Five Children by his First Wife preceded him to the Grave, Turner Vinson, Davis Vinson, Mary E. Vinson Mims, Wife of J.Z. Mims, Beulah Vinson, Libby Vinson Mims. He was a Son of Elijah Jerome and Mary Ann Ray Vinson and he was the first born of their Eleven Children.

Vinson, Sallie

Mrs. Sallie Vinson, age 69, was buried at Bethsalem. She died at the home of her Daughter-In-Law, Mrs. Doshia Vinson, near Bethsalem Tuesday night. She was born at Coopers, daughter of Uriah and Mary Jane Carwile Eiland. She was the Widow of Late Willie Vinson who was Son of the Late John R. Vinson. Surviving are 3 Sons, and one daughter W.G. Vinson, J.C. Vinson, and L.L. Vinson, and Mrs. E.W. Clenner of Clanton.

Vinson, Kinion Murphy
December 05, 1895 - January 01, 1982
Mr. Kenion Murphy Vinson, father of Clanton dentist Ken Vinson, died in a house fire New Year's day. Clanton Fire Chief Johnny Smith said the fire apparently started in a floor furnace around 3:00 a.m. January 1 and quickly spread throughout Mr. Vinson's Martha Street home. Firemen said that Mr. Vinson apparently was awakened by the fire and tried to escape. His body was found in a closet in the bedroom and it is believed that he became confused and mistook the closet door for one leading outside.
Kenion Murphy Vinson, 86, of Clanton died January 1 at his residence. He was a native of Chilton County. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gertiwyle McClendon of Scottsboro; one son, Dr. Kinyon Vinson; one sister, Mrs. Leila Bean; both of Clanton; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Graveside services were held Saturday, January 2, 11:00 a.m. at Martin Memorial Cemetery. Rev. J. W. Shaw and Dr. James Walters officiated. Martin Funeral Home directed.

Armstrong, Lena Frances Cecile (Vinson)
March 24, 1904 - October 22, 1996
Services for Lena (Vinson) Armstrong, 92, of Clanton were Thursday, October 24, 1996, at 3 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Griffin officiating. Burial was in the Concord Baptist cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Armstrong was born March 24, 1904, in Chilton County to the late John H. and Frances Kicker Vinson. She worked as an office clerk. A widow, she died Tuesday, October 22, 1996, at South Haven Nursing Home in Birmingham. She is survived by two sisters: Pearl Martin and Elsie Martin, both of Birmingham; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Margaret (Driver) Vinson, Wife of Newt Vinson, died Aug. 16. Burial was at Maple Springs. She is survived by her Husband, 1 Son, Julian Vinson of Montgomery, and Mrs. Elva Vinson Mims of Clanton Route 2. One daughter, Mrs. Zora Vinson Mims and 1 Son, Earl Vinson, preceded her to the Grave. She was the Daughter of Sampson and Mary E. Mims Driver.

Smith, James Orville

Funeral services for James Orville Smith, 76, Jemison, were held at Pates Chapel Baptist Church on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Randal Mims and Rev. Doug West officiating. Burial followed at Pates Chapel Baptist Church in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Smith was born on June 12, 1926, in Chilton County, the son of the late James Thomas Smith and the late Litha Jane Smith. He was a millwright. He died on Sept. 28, 2002, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Kate Smith, Jemison; two sons, Ronnie Smith and Ricky Smith, both of Jemison; one daughter-in-law, Dianne Smith, Jemison; two daughters, Janice Johnson, Birmingham, Beverly Hamm, Thorsby; two sons-in-law, W. A. Johnson, Birmingham, Mark Hamm, Thorsby; two sisters, Carolton Castleberry, Sylacauga, Nell Hamilton, Columbiana; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Jesse T. Smith, 81, of Plantersville, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1993. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Watson and the Rev. Dearl Lett officiating. Burial will follow in the Ebenzer Baptist cemetery in Stanton, directed by Martin Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Julia C. Smith of Plantersville; a son, Johnny Smith of Plantersville; three daughters, Dorthy Bone of Maplesville, JoAnn Milam of Calera and Glenda Short of Maplesville; a brother, Calvin smith of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters Ella Calfee of Birmingham and Catherine Mims of Clanton; 22 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for John D. Smith, 69, Clanton, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 29, 2001, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Aubry Wallace, Rev. Harold Clements, and Ivan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Smith was born on July 8, 1931, in Chilton County, the son of Gertrude Smith and the late William Howard Smith. He was a heavy equipment operator and also served in the Army. He died on June 27, 2001, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, LaRue Smith, Clanton; two sons, Michael Dale Smith, Hoover, and John Mark Smith, Birmingham; one daughter, Cathy Joiner, Birmingham; his mother, Gertrude Smith; three brothers, Doug Smith, Spanish Fort, Roy Smith, LaPorte, Texas, Jerry Smith, Nacadosius, Texas; Marie Smith and Idis Edwards, both of Verbena, and Ruth Yarbrough, Montgomery; and four grandchildren, Christy Joiner, Taylor Smith, Amy Smith, Cameron Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, William Howard Smith, and one brother, Reedie Smith.

Services for Joseph Smith, 90, of Clanton, will be held today, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery with Reverend Tony Smitherman will officiate. Mr. Smith, a service station owner, died at Brookwood Medical Center Feb. 15. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Smith of Clanton; daughter, Joan Smith of Hoover; son, Bonny Smith of Clanton; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. He was the son of Ira and Beulah Smith.

Julia M. Smith, 83, of Plantersville, died Sunday, July 25, 1993, in a Selma hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Martin Funeral Home chapel in Clanton with the Rev. Earl Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Plantersville Baptist cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. Survivors include one son, Johnny F. Smith of Plantersville; three daughters, Dot Bone of Maplesville, JoAnn Milam of Calera and Glenda Short of Maplesville, one brother, Howard Chism of Plantersville; three sisters, Venice Dunkin of Plantersville and Ruth Cameron and Frances Snodgrass, both of Selma; 23 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.

Iven of Clanton, Rufus L. of Seattle, Wash., Joseph G. of Trafford, Ala. 5 Daughters: Mrs. John Edwards of Clanton, Mrs. J.C. Culp of Clanton, Mrs. L. D. Broadhead of Maplesville, Mrs. J. M. Culp of Clanton and Mrs. Robert Edwards of Clanton.

Wade, Kathryn (Hayes)

Funeral services for Kathryn (Hayes) Wade, 88, of Clanton, will be held on Friday, May 26, 2000, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jay Hurd officiating. Burial will follow at Clanton City Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2000, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel from 10-11 a.m. Wade was born on April 13, 1912, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Julius Poe and Celeste Hayes. She was a homemaker. She died on May 24, 2000, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. Survivors include James Q. (Jim) Wade, Jr., San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Linda Wade Hancock, Missouri City, Texas, Kathryn Wade, Houston, Texas, and Julie Wade Howson, Tucker, GA.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Reed, Barbara (Waldrop)

Funeral arrangements for Barbar (Waldrop) Reed, 60, Jemison, will be directed by Charter Funeral Home in Alabaster. Reed was born in Alabama on Dec. 20, 1941, the daughter of Allen Waldrop and Willie Mae Hanlon. She was a member of Lighthouse Church in Thorsby. She died at her residence on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002. Burial was in Chilton Memorial Gardens with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Mims was born March 10, 1906, in Alabama to the late John and Mary Cleckler. She was a homemaker. She died Dec. 23, 1998, at her residence. She is survived by four daughter: Eufaula M. Smith of Bessemer, Pauline M. Gandy of Clanton, Irene M. Luhrs of Clanton and Evelyn D. Cleckler of Clanton; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Elwood Mims, 79, and a resident of Clanton, will be held today, May 29, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Chilton Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating. Interment will follow at Chilton Memorial Gardens. Born on Sept. 20, 1921, he was the son of the late Samuel Mims and the late Emma Mims. A weaver, he died on May 27, 2001 at Chapman Nursing Home in Alexander City. He is survived by two daughters, Lou Davis of Tallassee and Margaret Adams of Eclectic; two sons, Michael David Mims of Montgomery and Thomas Elwood Mims of Eclectic; a brother, Arthur Mims of Clanton; a sister Lurla Bradford of Birmingham; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
