Herman Cecil Deas

Herman Cecil Deas, a native of Coffeeville and resident of Ellisville, Miss., died at the age of 74 at his home, Sept. 19, 2007. Deas was the longtime business owner of Deas Cars. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Eula May and L.C. Deas, respectively and sister, Carolyn Price.

Survivors include two sons, Damon Deas of Jacksonville, Fla. and Dean Deas of Waynesboro, Miss; four daughters, Deanna Shepard and Falon Stephenson, both of Waynesboro, Tracy Humphrey of Katy, Texas and Toni Hennis of Mobile; one brother, Kenneth D. Deas of Coffeeville; seven grandchildren, Ed Brownlee, Carmen McMillan, Justin Humphrey, Jake Humphrey, Alexa Deas, Dane Deas and Destin Stephenson; and three greatgrandchildren, Noah Walter, Carson McMillan and Brylee Chalk.

Funeral services were conducted Sept. 22 at the Ulcanush Baptist Church with the Rev. Roscoe Wentsworth presiding. Interment was in the Ulcanush Cemetery in Coffeeville. Freeman Funeral Home of Waynesboro was in charge of arrangements.

William Lamar Ford

William Lamar Ford, 57, formerly of Jackson and Jacksonville, Fla., died Aug. 3, 2007 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. Memorial services were Aug. 11 at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. Jimmy Wilson officiating.

Ford retired after 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the University of Florida where he received a degree in electrical engineering. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. With patience and knowledge, he was able to mentor those younger around him.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Debbie Beal Ford of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; two sons, Spencer Ford and Davin (Valorie) Ford, both of Jacksonville; and a brother, Donnie (Marla) Ford of Ragland.

John Thomas Simpson Sr.

John Thomas Simpson Sr., died Sept. 14, 2007 at Mobile Infirmary at the age of 81. He was a native of Greenwood, Miss. and a resident of Sunflower. Simpson was a retiree of Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Mich.

He is survived by his wife, Ophelia Brown Simpson of Sunflower; seven daughters, Demitris (Cornelius) Davis, Omeka (Jimmie) Jackson, Donna (Walter) Dalton, all of Sunflower, Hattie Lark of Springhill, Fla., Gloria Blassingille of Houston, Texas, Phyllis (Will) Johnson of Detroit and Debra (Ricky) Davis of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, John (Della) Simpson Jr. of Sunflower, Jimmie Williams Sr. of Greenwood and Frank (Dorothy) Washington of Detroit; two sisters, Emma Honey and Willie Mae McGhee, both of Chicago, Ill.; brother-in-law, Clint (Aslean) Brown of Sunflower; 35 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 22 at St. Paul Baptist Church of McIntosh. Interment followed in the Brown Cemetery of Sunflower with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Jimmy Leon Beck

Jimmy Leon Beck, 58, a native and resident of Jackson, died Sept. 28, 2007 in a local hospital. He was a retired self-employed mechanic and a member of the Bolentown Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his guardian and niece, Sarah Ann Blackmon of Jackson; a nephew, Collin (Budman) Blackmon of Jackson; two brothers, Ray (Dot) Beck and Charles Leland Beck, both of Jackson.

Graveside services were Oct. 2 in the Stave Creek Baptist Cemetery, directed by Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson.

Ross Allen Cox

Ross Allen Cox, 21, died Sept. 27, 2007 at his residence in Leroy. He was a native of Mobile. A graveside service was conducted Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Cemetery in Leroy.

He is survived by his father, Roosevelt Cox Jr. of Jackson; his mother, Janette Lloyd Schofield of South Carolina; a brother, John Hammock of Jackson; four sisters, Roseanne N. Cox, Melinda Croom, Rebecca Croom and Tasha Croom, all of Jackson; and his grandfather, Henry Lloyd of Mobile.

Arrangements were directed by Lathan Funeral Home.

Margie Levon Keith

Margie Levon Keith, 65, a native of Womack Hill and resident of Leroy, died Sept. 27, 2007 at the Jackson Medical Center. She was a member of the St. Stephens United Methodist Church in St. Stephens. She is predeceased by her husband, Willie Dale Keith Sr.

Survivors include two sons, William Fred (Shelia) Keith Sr. of Leroy and Willie Dale (Deana) Keith Jr. of St. Stephens; two brothers, Lee Tillman (Becky) Bozeman Jr. and Leland Timothy (Polly) Bozeman, both of Leroy; and four sisters, Margaret L. (Curtis) Sullivan, Ruby (Charles) McClain and Betty Bozeman, all of Leroy and Mildred (Leslie) Hoven of Stave Creek; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 29 at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. The Revs. David Dyess and Nadine Walters officiated. Interment was in St. Stephens United Methodist Cemetery in St. Stephens.

Joyce Kidd Marshall

Joyce Kidd Marshall, a homemaker and member of the World Wide Church of God, died at the age of 77 at the Monroe County Hospital on Sept. 25, 2007. She was a native of Pike County, Ky. and a resident of Whatley.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Marshall of Gosport; three sons, Dwight D. Marshall of Miramar, Fla., Timothy Layne Marshall and Thomas Lloyd Marshall, both of Owen County, Ky.; three daughters, Truda Lou Dorton of Bracken County, Ky., Brenda Sue Nichols of Walker Springs and Donna Leigh Grimes of Gosport; five brothers, Paul Lee Kidd of Michigan, Ted Kidd, Jimmy Fleming, Don Emil Fleming and Robert Earl Fleming, all of Ohio; five sisters, Mabel Phipps, Janevieve Patton, Rose Mary Wyant and Judy Brammer, all of Ohio and Ferne Baxter of Tennessee; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sept. 30 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with the Rev. Mitchell B. Jay officiating. Interment was in Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill. Active pallbearers were Roger Nichols, Micah Nichols, Paul Grimes, Richard Anderson, Chris Marshall and Ryan Marshall.

Roy Chalmers Mitchem Sr.

Roy Chalmers "Chal" Mitchem Sr., 76, died at his residence Oct. 1, 2007. Funeral services were Oct. 3 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with interment in Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jackson.

A native and resident of Jackson, he was a retired millwright from Boise Cascade LLC and a member of the Jackson Church of Christ. Mitchem served with the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Jackson VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Fanny Johnson of Jackson; a daughter, Yolande Flo Heison of Jackson; two sons, Roy Chalmers Mitchem Jr. of Atlanta, Ga. and Danny Neil Mitchem of Bay Minette; a brother, Max Presnall Mitchem of Cedar Bluff; three sisters, Meloise Blount of Hot Springs, Ellen Rivers of Grove Hill and Ethel Baggette of Mobile; and five grandchildren.

Willie Brayden Rager

Willie Brayden Rager, a newborn, died Sept. 21, 2007 at a the Jackson Medical Center in Jackson.

He is survived by his parents, Rhonda and Blake Rager of Jackson; three brothers, Drew Jones and Sawyer Rotch, both of Jackson and J.B. Rager of Foley; two sisters, Kaylee Rotch of Jackson and Jonnah Bess Rager of Cullomburg; grandparents, Katherine and Willie Smith, Kathy and Johnnie Rager, all of Jackson and Trisha Rager of Grove Hill; and great-grandparent, S.A. " Rip" Armistead of Grove Hill.

A graveside service was conducted Sept. 25 at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson with the Rev. Sonny Hoven officiating with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing.

Lydia Ann Carlisle

Lydia Ann Carlisle, 55, died at the Washington County Nursing Home in Chatom. She was a native of Frankville in Washington County. She loved teddy bears and Elvis gospel music.

Survivors include two aunts and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie Mae and Bryant Carlisle.

Funeral services were Oct. 3 at St. Stephens Funeral Home in St. Stephens with interment in the New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery in Frankville. Bro. Isom Scarbrough officiated. Pallbearers were Bill Gilley, Jim Thompson, Eric Thompson, Leroy Faith, Jeff Faith and Levone Busby.

John Edmund Adams III John Edmund Adams III, 54, of Bon Secour died Sept. 28, 2007.

He was a native of Grove Hill and a retired Navy Senior Chief.

Survivors include his parents, Nanelle and John E. Adams Jr. of Grove Hill; his wife, Merrilee Adams of Bon Secour; one son, John M. Adams, Bon Secour; one daughter, Melissa Adams of Bon Secour; two brothers, Peter Adams of Columbus, Ga., David Adams of Gulf Shores; one sister, Evelyn Adams of Lafayette, La.

The service was Oct. 2 at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley with the Rev. Chris Coats officiating.

Memorials can be made to Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity, 12678 County Road 65 North, Foley, AL 36535; Christian Veterinary Mission, 19303 Fremont Ave., N., Seattle, WA 98133; or the Navy-Marine Corps. Relief Society, 875 North Randolph St, Suite 225, Arlington, VA. 22203-1757.
