Robert L. 'Bob' Witte Sr.

Funeral services for Robert L. "Bob" Witte Sr., 91, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003 at Huffman United Methodist Church with Burial in Jefferson Memorial Garden East. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Ridout's Roebuck Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Witte died Sunday, Aug. 24. He was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church and Faith Sunday School Class. He retired from Oxmoor Press after 35 years. He worked the past 10 years part-time at the Birmingham News.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Witte; daughter, Amelia (Buddy) Long of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sons, Bobby (Karolyn) Witte of Center Point, Jim (Jan) Witte of Cullman; twin brother, Cornelius S. Witte Jr. of Birmingham; three step-daughters, Cathy (Billy) Pearl of Bremen, Brenda Kelly of Warrior, Lizz Anderson of Murphy, N.C.; close family friend, Joanna Lengle of Murphy, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Allene Watts Latta

Funeral services for Allene Watts Latta, 90, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at Moss-Service Chapel, Randy Burtram officiating, with Burial in Holly Pond Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Latta died Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born March 25, 1913 in Cullman County to Dr. George and Sarah Burgess Watts. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Julius Lee Latta.

Survivors include two sons, Dudley L. (Juanita Quick) Latta of Hanceville and Robert A. (Frances Jones) Latta of Brooksville; three daughters, Mary Nell (Lyn) Whisenant and Geraldine Latta, both of Arab, and Judith N. (Paul) Dietrich of Branson, Mo.; five grandsons; four granddaughters; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday.

Horace Monroe Brooks, Jr.

Funeral services for Horace Monroe Brooks Jr., 72, of Sylacauga will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Curtis and Son North Chapel, the Rev. Clarence Meherg officiating, with Burial in Greenhill Memorial Gardens.

Curtis and Son North Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brooks died Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Russell Medical Center.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel.

Edward Eugene Bartlett

Funeral services for Edward Eugene Bartlett, 65, of Scottsboro will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 at Chapel In The Pines, the Rev. Randy Webber officiating, with Burial in Crestview Cemetery.

Carr Funeral Home of Guntersville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bartlett died Monday, Aug. 25 at his residence.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Flossie B. Steele.

Survivors include three daughters, Debra Warren of Hartselle, Mary Hurst of Hanceville and Janice Mitchell of Corner; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Barbara Bevan of Sterett and Debra Brooks of Blountsville; a stepson, James Kananday of Guntersville; and five stepgrandchildren.

The family is accepting flowers or donations may be made to Cancer Association.

Pallbearers will be David Warren, Zachary Warren, Jeremy Hurst, Justin Farley, Joseph Mitchell and Mark Mitchell.

Visitation was Wednesday.

George I. Ham

Funeral services for George I. Ham, 91, of Hanceville will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Mark Long officiating, with Burial in Welti Cemetery in Cullman.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ham died Thursday, Aug. 28 in Cullman. He was born in Cullman on Feb. 21, 1912 to Hirriam and Emma Lee Stewart Ham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include a brother, Joe Ham of Cullman; and a sister, Belle Wenzel.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joe C. Cruce

Funeral services for Joe C. Cruce, 66, of Hanceville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Carl Estes officiating, with Burial in Calvary Cemetery in Warrior.

Hanceville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cruce died Wednesday, Aug. 27 at his residence. He was born April 19, 1937 in Alabama to Oliver and Bertha Hill Cruce.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Cruce of Hanceville; two daughters, Belotta (Rick) Bivins of Pelham and Stephanie Cruce of Warrior; a stepson, James Blake of Warwick, Ga.; three sisters, Bobbie Cruce of Cullman, Janice (Wayne) Goodwin of Pinson and Sherry (Earnie) Harper of Guntersville; a brother, Sammy (Myrle) Cruce; three grandchildren, James Coggeshall and Jonathon Coggeshall, both of Pelham, and Brandon Cruce of Warrior; and two stepgrandchildren, Alex Blake and Rebecca Blake, both of Morris.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eva Sticher Jordan

Funeral services for Eva Sticher Jordan, 96, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Welti Cumberland Presbyterian Church. the Rev. Ray Lathem officiating, with Burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jordan died Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Hanceville Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 1, 1906 to Peter Sylvanus and Manarky Paralee Horsley Sticher. She was a lunchroom worker for the Cullman County School Systems.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Jordan; a daughter, Linda Eason; a grandson, Christopher Eason; her parents; and 11 siblings.

Survivors include a son, Darrell (Dottie) Jordan of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; a daughter, Gail (Wayne) Neal of Cullman; nine grandchildren, Ricky (Karen) Jordan, Ray (Sharon) Jordan, Rex Jordan, Rocky (Susan) Jordan, Jason (Stephanie) Neal, Scott (JoAnn) Eason, Bryan Eason, Robin (Butch) Fortner and Jamie (Stephen) McRea; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday.

M.C. Laster

Graveside services for M.C. Laster, 86, of Warrior will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery, Elder Ray Elsberry officiating.

Messmer-Goodwin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Laster died Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Survivors include his wife, Ethelene Laster of Warrior; a daughter, Olivia (Robert) Bennett of Hayden; a son, James Laster of Hayden; a brother, J.C. Laster of Sylvan Springs; two sisters, Ressie Laster of Sylvan Springs and Lizzie Stisher of Cullman; and a grandson, José Bennett.

Visitation was Thursday.

Hoyt Felton Stricklin

Funeral services for Hoyt Felton Stricklin, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Cullman, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Chapel of the Hills in Lincoln Way, Auburn, Calif.

Chapel of the Hills of Auburn, Calif. is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stricklin died Friday, Aug. 22. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer, Second Class in the North Atlantic and South Pacific on the USS Idaho and the USS Conflict. He was a graduate of Spartan School of Aeronautics, Tulsa, Okla., class of 1947. He retired in 1978 after 21 years as a business owner. He was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Auburn, Calif. Lodge 7 and the Disabled American Veterans of Auburn, Calif. Chapter 80.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosalie Stricklin; his parents, Richard L. and Audie Moore Stricklin; two brothers, Scott and Lowell Stricklin; and six sisters, Eunice Anderson, Ethel Speegle Feemster, Willie Miller, Lizzie Connell McSwain, Stella Stricklin and Mary Agnes Stricklin.

Survivors include three sons, Paul L. Stricklin, Mark L. Stricklin and Eric R. Stricklin; two grandchildren, Erin E. Stricklin and Colin S. Stricklin; and a brother, George T. Stricklin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, 190 Diamond St., Auburn, Calif. 95603 or the Hoyt Stricklin Memorial Fund, 1850 Sunset Dr., New Castle, Calif. 95658.

Regina D. Royster Thacker

Funeral services for Regina D. Royster Thacker, 34, of Jasper, are at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, Joe Fowler officiating, with Burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Mrs. Thacker died Wednesday, Aug. 27 at Walker Baptist Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her father, Terrell Royster; a grandfather, Emmit Hendrix; and grandparents, will and Pearl Royster.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Thacker of Jasper; her mother, Eva Eisenring of Cullman; her brother, Terry (Brenda) Royster of Cullman; grandparents, Elton (Faye) Burgett of Jasper; and a grandmother, Bertha Hendrix of Cullman.

Rebecca Elaine Richardson Handley VanMetre

Funeral services for Rebecca Elaine Richardson Handley VanMetre, 68, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003 at Cullman Heritage Chapel, Paul Hicks officiating, with Burial in Cullman Heritage Cemetery.

Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. VanMetre died Thursday, Aug. 28 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born July 23, 1935 in Birds Nest, Va. She retired from South Central Bell after 31 years of service. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herman Kendall Richardson Sr.; her mother, Myrtice Gladden Richardson; two brothers, Billy Richardson and H.K. Richardson; and her stepmother, Gladys Richardson.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald VanMetre of Cullman; three sons, Donnie (Pam) Handley and Thomas K. (Christa) Handley, both of Cullman, and Clifford A. (Margaret) Handley Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Debbie (Larry) Ensor of Louisville, Ky. and Jo Chumley of Cullman; a sister, Anna Ruth Heath of Townsend, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Richardson and Norma VanMetre; 11 grandchildren, Angie (Jamie) Young, Matthew Handley, Jason Handley, Chayla Handley, Tabitha Handley, Michael (Jennifer) Ensor, Brian Ensor, Chad Ensor, Cliff Handley III, Jill Handley and Jenny Weeks; four great-grandchildren, Isiah Young, Nathan Weeks, James Ensor and Justin Ensor; and three nephews, Larry VanMetre, Hal VanMetre and David VanMetre.

Funeral services for Wanda Faye Dismukes, 69, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at Moss Service Chapel, Darrell Brisco and Dudley Brock officiating, with Burial in Cullman Public Cemetery.

Mrs. Dismukes died Thursday, Aug. 28 at her residence. She was born Dec. 20, 1933 to Neborn and Lois Maze NeSmith.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Harrol Dismukes of Cullman; son, Harrol Loyd Dismukes of Cullman; brother, Herbert (Glennis) NeSmith; sister, Ann (Bud) Howard; brother-in-law, Hulet Dismukes; and sisters-in-law, Agnes Wilcutt, Cloia NeSmith and Phyllis NeSmith.

Pallbearers will be Hulet Dismukes, Bud Howard, Alton Hunt, Terry Maze, Wayne Parker and Carlton Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Hubert Langley, Howard Gardner, Charles Parker and Daren Howell.

Janice G. Calvert

Funeral services for Janice G. Calvert, 62, of Bremen are at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel, Charles Sinyard officiating, with Burial in Persimmon Grove Cemetery in Bremen.

Mrs. Calvert died Saturday, Aug. 30 in Cullman. She was born in Cullman on July 16, 1941 to Voight and Birdie Johns Guthery. She was a member of Persimmon Grove Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include her husband, Herlin Calvert of Bremen; her mother; two daughters, Chanda Campbell of Brushy Pond and Jodi Tucker of Cullman; a son, Melvin Grant of Brushy Pond; two stepsons, Brian Calvert of Brushy Pond and Darrin Calvert of Birmingham; a sister, Beverly (Stanley) Ballew; a brother, T.J (Nell) Guthery; and seven grandchildren.
