Mrs. Bobbie Louise Duff Schmidt

Mrs. Bobbie Louise Duff Schmidt, age 77, a resident of De Queen, Ark., died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at her home.

She was born to Melvin Arthur and Verna Maude Stone Duff at Houston, Texas, on November 13, 1930. She was former co-owner of B. & B. Custom Meat Processing Service, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Nondenominational Church, and enjoyed painting, sewing, and writing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Danny Mel Duff, and in February, 1999, her husband, Joseph Herbert Schmidt.

She is survived by a special grandson and care giver, Kristopher Schmidt of De Queen, a son and daughter-in-law, David Rodney and Deborah Schmidt of Arden, Arkansas, one daughter, Rita L. Schmidt of De Queen, two sisters, Patsy Hughes of Mesquite, Texas, and Billy Duff of Pearland, Texas, three other grandchildren, Misty Parker, Heather Delozier, and Dustin Schmidt all of Ashdown, Ark., six great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Ruth Duff of Alvin, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Bobbie Schmidt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 in the Millwee Cemetery, with Bro. Wallace Wooten officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Mrs. Lois Mildred Blackwood

Mrs. Lois Mildred Blackwood, age 87, a resident of Dierks, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in Texarkana.

She was born February 9, 1920. she was a homemaker and attended the Bethel Baptist church.

Mrs. Blackwood was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Blackwood and Roy Seale.

She is survived by three sons: Ronald D. Seale and Cois D. Seale both of Texarkana, Arkansas, and John W. Seale of Chula vista, California; two step-children: Brent Blackwood of Texarkana, Arkansas and Carla Gail Baker of Laurel, Maryland; two sisters: Helen Young of De Queen and Billie Ruth Fant of New Hope; two brothers: Oteneth Turner of Dierks and Elveray Turner of New Hope; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Blackwood will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Rev. Kenny Fant officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 25th at the funeral home in Dierks.

Master Brennen Paul Coulter

Brennen Paul Coulter infant son of Brandon Coulter and Shayla Vanhoose died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at his home.

He was born November 16, 2007 in Mena, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jackie Vanhoose and his aunt Monica Coulter.

He is survived by his father, Brandon Coulter, his mother, Shayla Vanhoose, one brother, Shaydon Coulter; his maternal grandmother, Becky Vanhoose, his paternal grandparents, Grace Williams, and Henry and Iola Coulter all of De Queen; his aunts and uncles, Lacy and Jeremy Smith of San Marcos, Texas, Leanna Vanhoose of De Queen, Jason Vanhoose also of San Marcos, Texas, Tiffany McBride of Horatio, Dylan Vanhoose of De Queen, Galena and Amado Gallardo of De Queen, Laneicia Williams of Little Rock, Ramona Coulter of Paris, Texas, Tyrone Washington of Dallas, Texas, Henry Coulter II of Joplin Missouri, Nakita Coulter of Broken Bow, Oklahoma and a host of family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008 in the New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Patrick Grant officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 25th at the funeral home.

A benefit account has been opened at First State Bank in De Queen for help with the burial of Brennen Coulter. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Mrs. Blanche V. Adams

Mrs. Blanche V. Adams, age 86, a resident of Umpire, Arkansas died Monday, January 21, 2008 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

She was born April 24, 1921 in Umpire to William Jackson and Dessie Hunter Manasco. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by her husband, A. Gales Adams in 1993, seven sisters, five brothers, and a step-son, Williard Earl Adams.

She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Billie and Eulis Dalrymple of Umpire; several nieces and nephews; 4 step-grandchildren: Amy Henderson, Brian Adams, Jeffery Adams, and Sarah Adams; mother of the step=grandchildren, Alane Adams; and a special friend, Donna Kay Powers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Adams will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Bro. Don Vaughn and Bro. Travis Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends form 6:00 top 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008at the funeral home in Dierks.

Mr. Curtis Welch

Curtis Welch, age 71, a resident of De queen, AR died Sunday, January 20, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born October 5, 1936 in Kirby, AR to Thomas and Otha Dunlap Welch. He was a logging contractor and farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie Bradshaw Welch of De Queen; two sons and daughters-in-law: Danny and ginger Welch of Murfreesboro, AR and Terry and Jimmie Welch of Tollette, AR; one daughter and son-in-law: Janet and Mark Whiddon of Longview, TX; three brothers: Tommy Welch and Larry Welch, both of Glenwood, AR and Gary Welch of Dierks, AR; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Emiloye and Al Mudina of New Hope, AR and Louann and Clarence Huddleston of Dierks; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Welch will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in the First Baptist Church of Lockesburg with Rev. Jack Gilliland officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockesburg Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2007 at the funeral home.

Mr. James C. Kesterson

James C. "Woodcutter" Kesterson, age 62, a resident of Dierks, AR died Sunday, January 20, 2008 in Dubuis Rehabilitation of Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, TX.

He was born august 12, 1945 in Dierks to Johnsie and Hester Mounts Kesterson. He was an employee of Shawn Gibson Trucking of Broken bow, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Sandy Kesterson; a great niece, Ashley Devasier, and a great nephew, Brandon Devasier.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Leeper Kesterson of Dierks; two daughters and sons-in-law: Sheila and Michael Putman of Lewisville, TX and Amy and Sam Rogers of Dierks; one son, Todd Kesterson of Dierks; one brother, Glenvil Kesterson of Lockesburg, AR; one sister, Glenda Chandler of Dierks; nine grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Kesterson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 20078 in the New Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Larry Allbritton officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the funeral home in Dierks.

Mr. Virgil Lynn Hitch

Virgil Lynn Hitch, age 63, a resident of Gillham, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in the Crystal Falls Nursing Center, De Queen.
He was born to George Nelson Hitch and Lorraine Watkins Hitch at Andrews, Texas, on October 12, 1944. He enjoyed ridding motorcycles, crossword puzzles, and being with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Aaron Hitch, and two grandchildren, Kevin Smith and Bobbie Smith.

He is survived by a very special granddaughter and long time caregiver Tisha Vaughn of De Queen, three daughters, Tresa Hitch of Fort Polk, LA, Diana Emigre' & Cherrie Little of Big Spring, TX; a brother, Jackie Franks of Pioneervalley, TX, a sister, Ada Poland of Fayetteville, AR, seven more grandchildren, Hollis Hardy of Rusk, TX, Jennifer Emfinger of Eastland, Tex, Deven Ware of Russellville, AR, Quinton Little of Big Spring, TX, David Emfinger of De Queen, AR, T. J. Little of Big Spring, TX, and Jimi Ray Hicks of Louisburg, NC, 4 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. James Carl Morris

Mr. James Carl Morris, age 63, a resident of Gillham, Ark. died Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at his home.

He was born to Robert Nathan “Hub” and Tabitha Louisa Ward Morris on April 8, 1944, at Gillham, Arkansas.

He was owner and operator of Morris Fresh Produce at De Queen and Gillham, as well as a rancher. He had a passion for being outside, and enjoyed deer hunting, and roping and riding horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Vernon Morris and Keith Morris. He is survived by the mother of his child, Marilyn Joyce House Morris of Gillham,one son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Twyla Morris of Gillham, one granddaughter, Tabitha Morris of Gillham, two brothers, Bobby Morris of Hughes Springs, Texas, and Milton Morris of Gillham, two sisters, Joyce Hammer of De Queen, and Judy Mills of Gillham, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. James Morris will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17th in the Overturf Cemetery with Rev. Charles Ligon officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 16th.

Mrs. Mattie Singleton

Mrs. Mattie Lou Singleton, age 85, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, January 10, 2008, in the Christus St. Michael Health Care Center in Texarkana.

She was born August 31, 1922 in Idabel, Oklahoma to John and Wattie Dorris. She was a homemaker, co-owner of Jack and Jill Preschool, a volunteer at the Salvation Army, Kids of the King and the Foster Grandparents programs, a member of the De Queen Hospital Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Singleton was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Singleton in 1971, and her youngest child, Shirlee Tomasi in 1979.

She is survived by one son, Robert Singleton of De Queen; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Eckard of Bella Vista, Arkansas; a brother, Leo Dorris of Riverside, California; six grandchildren: Penny, Brawley of Lakeside, California, Rick Singleton of Ft. Worth, Texas, John O'Conner of De Queen, Angel Petet of Springdale, Arkansas, Stacy Alspaw of De Queen, and Amy Johnson of Albany, Oregon; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Singleton will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 13, 2008, in the Redmen Cemetery with Rev. David Williams officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mr. Ricky Leon Hood

Ricky Leon Hood, age 44, a resident of Ashdown, died Friday, January 11, 2008 in the Little River Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 25, 1963 in Monticello, Arkansas to Richard and Sudie Johns Hood. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ashdown.

He is survived by his father, Richard L. Hood; his mother and step-father, Sudie and Ken Golden; one sister, Tammy Harris; special friend, Kathy Short; other special friends, Steve Day, Brady Day, Jason Markle and Joni Chilcoat, all of Ashdown; numerous other relatives and friends.

Cremation arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2008 in the First Baptist Church in Ashdown with Rev. Ken Golden officiating
