Gertrude M. Ashley McCauley

Mrs. Gertrude M. Ashley McCauley, age 93, a resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born August 8, 1915 in the Pullman Community to Foster A. and Oma Catherine Holder Ashley. She was a homemaker and one of the original members of the De Queen Church of Christ.

Mrs. McCauley was preceded in death by her husband, John William McCauley on October 17, 1998 and one grandson, Kevin McCauley on July 23, 2007.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Wilma McCauley of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Daniel and Virginia McCauley of Hurst, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and James Dickson of Rohwer, Arkansas; two sisters, Hazel Krudwig and Idell Peterson both of De Queen; three grandchildren, Michael McCauley, Jim Dickson and Randy John Dickson; two step-grandchildren, Kathy Smith and Harold E. Adams; 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. McCauley will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2008 in the Redmen Cemetery with Charles F. Krudwig officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, October 3rd at the funeral home.

Roy Ivan Nelson

Mr. Roy Ivan Nelson, age 91 a resident of De Queen, died Monday, September 29, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born April 15, 1917 in Chicago, IL. He was a truck driver and a veteran.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the Redmen Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Thelma Ruth Geiger Bouston
Mrs. Thelma Ruth Geiger Bouston, age 75, a resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, September 29, 2008 in the Crystal Falls Nursing Center, De Queen.
She was born to Cleotis and Zeola Nelson Geiger at Nashville, Arkansas, on February 12, 1933. She was a retired employee of Brookwood Nursing Center, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Lewis Temple Church of God In Christ of De Queen, and enjoyed going to church, flowers, and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, and a brother, Bobby Jewell Gieger. her husbands, Billie Joe Newton in 1965, and Jessie Lee Bouston in 2007, and a granddaughter, Nell Johnson in 2006.

She is survived by two sons, Billy George Newton of Austin, Texas, and Burnie Joe Newton, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, seven daughters, Patricia Sue Davis, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Myrtle Fay Polite of Lockesburg, Shirley Joyce Newton, Sylvia Ann Bible, and Verna Ruth McElroy all of Waco, Texas, Thelma Jean Majors of Round Rock, Texas, and Voylas L. Martin of Magnolia, Arkansas, her mother, Zeola Geiger of Hot Springs, Ark. three brothers, Howard Geiger, and Halton Geiger both of Dallas, Texas, and Curtis Ray Geiger of Wilton, Arkansas; three sisters, Hazel Tookes of Madison, Wisconsin, Ethel Faye Hammock of Hot Springs, Ark.; Ednita LaKay Thompson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 27 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Thelma Bouston will held at 10:00 Saturday, October 4th in the Lewis Temple Church of God In Christ with Rev. E. A. Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the McElroy Cemetery, Lockesburg, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Friday, October 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Evelyn Burt

Mrs. Evelyn L. Burt, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.

She was born July 10, 1936 in Dierks, Arkansas to Nal B. and Mary Jo Cundiff Terry. She was the De Queen School food service director for 37 years and a member of the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Burt was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Burt of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Burt of Horatio; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and James Wray of De Queen; three sisters, Barbara Irene Spears of Nashville, Arkansas, Cora Ruth White of Dierks and Linda Sue Terry of Prescott, Arkansas; six grandchildren, David Jason Burt, Jennifer Denise Stiers, Jarrod Willis Burt, Michael Jared Quinn, Scott Aaron Wray and Ryan Edwin Wray; five great-grandchildren, Alek Jason Burt, Dalton Ryan Hopkins, Kaytlynn Ann Hopkins, William Ashton Burt and Trista Melanie Burt.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Burt will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the Chapel Hill Cemetery with Rev. Coy Arnold officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith Henry (Smitty) Hendrix

Smith Henry (Smitty) Hendrix, age 42, was called to his Heavenly home by our Lord on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 in Edinburg, Texas.

He was born to Kenneth Jeff Hendrix and Delia Ruiz Hendrix on October 14, 1965 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

He earned his B.S. Degree in Chemistry at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. After graduation he accepted employment as a quality control supervisor with Tyson Foods in Green Forest, AR. He recently received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Bendictin (XVI).

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Smith Henry and Ellen Hendrix; and his maternal grandparents, Elijio Ruiz, Sr. and Bernardina (Nina) Moreno Ruiz.

Left to cherish his loving memory are his parents, Kenneth Jeff and Delia Ruiz Hendrix; his brother, Kenneth John Hendrix; his sister-in-law, Sylvia Hendrix; one nephew Russell Hendrix; three uncles, John H. Hendrix of De Queen, AR, Ronnie and Elijio Ruiz, Jr. of Edinburg, TX; three aunts, Lupita Ruiz and Luz Elva Ruiz of Edinburg, and Eva Longoria of Mission, TX; three great aunts, Emma Moreno and Santos Guzman of Edinburg and Mary Gutierrez of McAllen, TX, along with many cousins.

Memorial services will be recited by Monsignor Scott Friend at the Tom Wilmeth Chapel, 7 miles west of De Queen on the John Hendrix Ranch on Friday, October 3, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

Mr. J. W. Kendrick

Mr. J. W. Kendrick, age 81, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas died Monday, September 29, 2008 at his home.

He was born January 9, 1927 in Turkey, Texas to John W. and Cleo Williamson Kendrick. He was an auto diesel mechanic, a U.S.Army veteran having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Grannis.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Jones Kendrick of the home; two daughters, Rhonda Moody of Nashville, Tennessee and Gina Fisch of Lenexa, Kansas; one son, John Kendrick of Vidor, Texas.; three grandchildren, Dana Fisch of Astoria Queens, New York, Laura Fisch of Lenexa, Kansas and Kevin Fisch also of Lenexa, Kansas.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the Grannis Cemetery with Rev. Homer Frachiseur officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Mrs. Vicki L. Kykendall

Mrs. Vicki L. Kykendall, age 57, a resident of Dierks, Arkansas died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at her home.

She was born July 15, 1951 in Story, Arkansas to George frank and Effie Louise Howell Clenney. She was an L.P.N.

Mrs. Kykendall is survived by her husband, Perry Kykendall of Dierks, Arkansas; one son, Mark Edward Brown of Jonesboro, Louisiana; three brothers, Glenn, George, and Douglas Mack Clenney all of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one sister, Dean Hodge of Stuttgart, Arkansas; and one special friend, Ester Wallace.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Kykendall will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2008 in Mt. Joy Cemetery with Bro. Jimmy Jester and Bro. Jerry Jester officiating under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28th at the funeral home in Dierks, Arkansas.

Mrs. Gladys Clinton Crockett

Mrs. Gladys Clinton Crockett, age 104, a resident of Grannis, Arkansas died Thursday, September 25, 2008 in Tyler, Texas.

She was born May 3, 1904 near the Clinton Crossing on the Cossatot River east of Gilliam, Arkansas. Mrs. Crockett was the daughter of the late William Edward and Ella Clift Clinton. She has lived in the Grannis, Gilliam area all her life. She was a retired school teacher, having taught 43 years in the Gillham-Grannis School District. After her retirement, she and two of her sisters Mrs. Floy Lane and Mrs. Winnie Coker also retired teachers traveled to several foreign countries. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a devoted church member, having served her church as Secretary and Treasurer, also organist and teacher for several years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Gillham for more than 50 years.

Mrs. Crockett was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Crockett on October 21, 1969.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Crockett will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints with Richard Leach officiating. Burial will follow in the Grannis Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Helen Inez Lindsey Gamble

Helen Inez Lindsey Gamble, age 95, a resident of De Queen, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in the Crystal Falls Health and Rehab in De Queen.

She was born October 10, 1913 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Walton Elmer and Lillian Wommack Lindsey. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of De Queen, an avid reader and loved to travel. She was co-owner of Franks Bowl arena and Franks with her husband Frank Gamble. Mrs. Gamble was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Gamble, Jr. on July 21, 1989.

Mrs. Gamble is survived by one son, Frank J. Gamble, III and one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Ronald Lowery both of De Queen; four grandchildren, Leah O' Rand of Redwater, Texas, Sandy Huntsburger of De Queen, Brett Lowrey of De Queen and Sean Gamble of Reno, Nevada; eight great-grandchildren, Callie Miller, Morgan Miller, Blake Lowrey, Alec Lowrey of De Queen, Austin O' Rand and Grayson Coleman of Redwater, Texas, Ashley Coleman of DeKalb, Texas and Bryn Nebeker of Reno, NV; one great great-grandson, Carson Luke Coleman of Dekalb, Texas.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Gamble will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2008 in the Redmen Cemetery with Rev. Grant Groves officiating under the Direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church at 321 N. 5th Street, De Queen, Arkansas 71832.

Ola Mae White

Ola Mae White, 91, of Ashdown, died Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in Ashdown. She was born November 13, 1917 in Nashville, Arkansas to Perry Tapp and Nora Ward Tapp. She was predeceased by her husband Robbie Walker. She lived in Lockesburg most of her adult life until several years after retiring from Wal-Mart. She then moved to Ashdown where she enjoyed going to the Senior Citizen Center and being involved at First Baptist Church where she was a member. She loved the Lord, her family, and her friends and caretakers at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home where she lived for the past five years. She also had a love for nature and writing poetry. She had numerous poems published in newspapers and books including the historic edition of the book titled "America at the Millennium-The Best Poems and Poets of the 20th Century". Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-laws, Robert and Gwen Walker, Royce and Nancy Walker, and Denny Walker, all from Lockesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Vonda and Claude Holloway from Hot Springs; twelve grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home in DeQueen. Burial will follow in the Falls Chapel Cemetery.

June Loraine South

Mrs. June Loraine South, age 74, a resident of New Boston, TX, formerly of De Queen, AR died Friday, December 12, 2008 in the De Queen Medical Center .

She was born May 17, 1934 in Perham, Minnesota to Herman and Frida Kakoske Wiese. She was a caregiver for the elderly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melbert South in 1997, and a son, Jimmy J. Turnage.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria and Dennis Mitchell of New Boston and Sherri Hanger of Roseville, MN; one sister, Gloria Wiese of Fridley, MN; four granddaughters, Carrie Shrader, Chasidy Owen, Denielle Mitchell and Melissa Mench; one grandson, Jeff Hanger; four great grandchildren, Austin, Micah, Alex and Allie; and a number of cousins.

Memorial services for Mrs. South will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Nancy Stow officiating.
