Wanda Jean Trimble Denyer

Mrs. Wanda Jean Trimble Denyer, age 66, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born to Johnny and Estelene Blackburn Trimble at Daingerfield, Texas, on January 16, 1945. She was a retired nurse, as well as a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith, and was a 6 year resident of Brookwood Nursing and Rehab, and loved socializing, playing dominoes, making crafts, and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randy Dale Palmer, a granddaughter, Mayetta Jordan, and her husbands, Joe B. Palmer and Paul Denyer.

She is survived by a son, Anthony Palmer of Vinita, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gerald and Regina Easlon of De Queen, and Melvin and Becky Kuykendall, Jr. of Broken Bow, Okla.; three grandchildren, Melvin Kuykendall, III of Broken Bow, Okla. Shamie Owen of De Queen, and Colin Palmer of New York, nine great-grandchildren, Alexander Churchwell, Emily Churchwell, Winter Kuykendall, Misty Kuykendall, Tylar Thompson, Keagan Thompson, and Joshua Thompson, one brother and sister-in-law, George and Cindy Thompson of Glover, Okla.; a sister, Martha McCoy of Daingerfield, Texas, her former husband, Lawrence Hill of Brookwood, and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Wanda Denyer will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 29th in Chapel Hill Cemetery with Chaplin David Smith officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Pallbearers are Herald Donny Easlon, Richard Easlon, Gilbert Mooneyham, Donnie Minor, Benjamin Thomas Mooneyham, Adam Lawrence Mooneyham.

Mary Claydene Reel Whedbee

Mrs. Mary Claydene Reel Whedbee, age 66, a resident of Gillham, died Sunday, September 25th in the Howard Memorial Hospital, Nashville, Ark. She was born to Preston Clay and Nan Marie Friday Reel at Nashville, Arkansas on December 22, 1944. She was a paralegal as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed photography, and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Ralph Whedbee of Gillham, two sons, Joel Cash of De Queen, and Richard Murry Whedbee of Benton, Arkansas, three daughters, Taracia Lee of Weatherford, Texas, Lori Brown of Horatio, and Tammy Lynn Leonard of Swansea, Ill.; her mother, Nan Eason of Vilonia, Arkansas, three brothers, Chuck Reel of Little Rock, Ark., Tommy Reel of Olive Branch, Miss., and Steve Reel of Vilonia, Ark., twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service for Mrs. Claydene Whedbee will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 28th in the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Ray Reynolds, and Rev. Ron Drye officiating. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28th in the Lovelace Cemetery, Witcherville, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 27th from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Sheldon M. Brooks Jr.

Sheldon M. Brooks Jr., 71, went to be with the Lord on September 25, 2011, at a local nursing home. Sheldon was born to Sheldon M. and Alene Coston Brooks Sr. in Malvern, Arkansas on May 6, 1940.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Charlene Currington.

Survivors include his brother -n- law, Charles Currington and his wife Debra of De Queen; Teresa Blankney and her husband Rob of Dallas, Lamar Currington and his wife Shannon of Mountain Pine, Scott Currington of Hot Springs, and Tony Currington of De Queen.

Sheldon loved to travel and attend church. He was an active member at North Malvern Assembly of God church, where he enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Services and Visitations will be held at Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Visitations: 8:00 -10:00 a.m. and Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Interment to follow at Rockport Memorial Gardens in Malvern, AR. with Reverend Robin Blakney officiating.

Arrangements entrusted to Atkinson Funeral Home, Malvern, AR (501) 332-2711.

Martha Helen Purtle Nunn

Mrs. Martha Helen Purtle Nunn, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Sunday, September 25th in the Brookewood Nursing and Rehab. She was born to Madison and Ethel McConnell Purtle at De Queen, Arkansas on March 4, 1933. She was a member of the Williamson Community Church, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Florence Elizabeth Purtle, and a brother, Madison Paul Purtle.

She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, D. L. “Pete” Nunn of De Queen, two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ethel and Darrell McCollum of De Queen, and Elizabeth and Mike Cunningham of Paron, Arkansas, a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Sandra Nunn of De Queen, four grandchildren, Michael Cunningham, Becky Cunningham, Michelle Sawyer, Patricia Maben, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Patsy Thompson and husband, Sam of Horatio, Robbie Goins and friend, Roy of Horatio, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Martha Nunn will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28th in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, De Queen. The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 27th. The family will be meeting at the home of Leroy and Sandra Nunn, 2072 Highway 329, De Queen.

Mary Jo House Williamson

Mary Jo House Williamson went to be with her Lord on September 21, 2011 at ETMC in Tyler, TX. She was born August 23, 1930 in De Queen, Arkansas and has been a long time resident of Tyler, TX. Jo is one of four children born to the late Cecil and Leo House of De Queen AR and was the beloved wife of Frank Mahlon Williamson of Horatio, AR for fifty-three years.

Jo is preceded in death by her husband Frank Mahlon Williamson of Horatio, AR, her sister Opal Ruth Lewis and brother Kenneth Ross House both of De Queen, AR. She will always be remembered by her devoted sister Carolyn Ann Mitchell of De Queen, AR, beloved children, Frank Michael Williamson of Houston, TX, Patricia Lynn Hinds of Tyler, TX and Kerri Ann Seibold of Columbia, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dori Lyn Lewis of Tyler, TX, Matthew Price Williamson of McComb, MS, Heather Marie Spiess, Kelly Renee Acheson and Kenneth Ross Seibold all of Columbia, TN. She will also be remembered by her devoted dog, Sir Winston as well as her nieces and nephews and her very much loved great grandchildren.

Jo has been active in many community services in De Queen which included being President of the Historical Society and Museum, honored to be Citizen of the Year for Sevier County and active on the De Queen Centennial celebration as well as Regent for the Paraclifta Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and member of Preceptor Kappa Gamma chapter in Tyler TX. She recently was the Registrar for the Mary Tyler Chapter of DAR.

Curtis Lynn Key

Mr. Curtis Lynn Key, age 57, a resident of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, died Thursday, September 22, 2011in the Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia.
He was born January 24, 1954 in De Queen, Arkansas and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mr. Key was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Scott and Adley Imogene Smith Key; his sister, Valerie Jane Jackson and his niece, Marteen Cobb.
He is survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Scotteen Estes of Kilgore, Texas and Nova and Laney Lawrence of Lebanon, Tennessee; two nieces Heather Lawrence Parker and her husband, James of Lebanon, Tennessee and Bonnie Estes of Austin, Texas and one nephew, Scott Lawrence of Lebanon, Tennessee.
Funeral Services for Mr. Key will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen with David Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Pauley Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Arkadelphia Human Development Center, Arkadelphia, AR.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bertie Marie Cowart Terrell

Mrs. Bertie Marie Cowart Terrell, age 72, a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, September 15, 2011at her home.

She was born August 23, 1939 in Poplarville, Mississippi. She was a beautician, a foster grandparent, a member of the Silver Hill Chapter #540 of the Eastern Star and Grace Baptist Church.

Mrs. Terrell was preceded in death by her parents, John Hubert and Eunice Carrie Smith Cowart; her husband, Tommy Terrell and two daughters, Sandra Williams and Shelia Mc Daniels.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John and Brandy Terrell of De Queen; two daughters, Cindy Fourman of De Queen and Mary K. Terrell of Haughton, Louisiana; two sisters, Aline Coleman and Kay Howard of Poplarville, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Mrs. Terrell will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the Grace Baptist Church in De Queen with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating.

Ralph Conner Mathis

Ralph Conner Mathis, 54, of Lebanon Junction Kentucky, died in an auto accident on September 5, 2011.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mike C Mathis of Plainview AR; one son, Michael Scott Mathis of Pryor, OK.

He is survived by his wife, Anne M Cheshire Mathis; One son Eric Mathis; one daughter Jennifer L Mathis all from Pryor, OK. His mother Laveta M. Mathis, of Plainview, AR; one brother David O. Mathis of Provo, AR; two sisters- Connie Miller of Shreveport, LaGail Staggs of De Queen, AR; and four grandchildren.

The funeral was Friday, Sept. 9, at Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction, KY.

Wendy Zapata-Hernadez

Wendy Sardel Zapata-Hernandez, age 19, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, Sept. 15th near Horatio.

She was born to Enrique Escalera and Juliet Hernandez at Durango, Mexico on December 23, 1991. She was a graduate of De Queen High School in 2008, an employee of Selenas, in Horatio. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Javier Aguilar Hernandez of De Queen, a daughter, Leah Alondra Hernandez of De Queen, her parents, Enrique Zapata Escalera and Juliet Hernadez of Lockesburg, a brother Enrirque Zapata Hernadez of De Queen, a sister, Thalia Ivone Zapata Hernandez, and husband, Oscar of Durango, Mexico, a nephew, Oscar Gutierrez Zapata of Durango, Mexico; her grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Urbina Alferez of Durango, Mexico, two aunts, Rosalia Martenez of Horatio, and Erendira Hernandez Alferes of Lockesburg.

A funeral Mass will be Monday, September 19th at 8:00p.m. at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in De Queen with Father Eddie D'Almedia officiating.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 20th from 9:00 A.M., to 8:00 P.M. at Chandler Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.

Genevieve Phoebe "Jim" Cook Hicks

Mrs. Genevieve Phoebe "Jim" Cook Hicks, age 94, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Friday, September 16, 2011 in the Brookewood Nursing Center in De Queen.

She was born February 6, 1917 in Hatfield, Arkansas. She was retired from Cowden Manufacturing and the Van-Cove School System. She was a member of the Vandervoort Baptist Church and attended Kern Heights Baptist Church after moving to De Queen.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Dora Smith Cook and her husband, Loyd S. "Jap" Hicks.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jr. and Judy Hicks of De Queen; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Kenneth Milam of Gainesville, Florida and Sherri and George Wall of Texarkana, Arkansas; her twin sister, Josephine Robinson of Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Hicks will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2011 in the Witherspoon Cemetery near Vandervoort with Rev. Rusty Ross officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, September 17th at the funeral home.
