HOWARD NASH

Howard Marvin Nash, age 86, of Benton; passed away Sunday December 8, 2002. He was born to the late Leon and Mary Nash on August 5, 1917 in Salem, Oregon. Mr. Nash was an auto dealer, served in U.S. Navy and a member of Southwest Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Floyce Inez Thomas.

He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Landers of Benton; brother, Harvey Nash of Floral; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lance Landers, Steve Landers, Nick Landers, Josh Landers, Kyle Landers and Steve Landers, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Abercrombie, Joe Rayburn, Jay Chilton and Raymond Thomas.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Ashby’s.

MARCUS LEE WHITE, JR.

Marcus Lee White, Jr., age 46, of Lonsdale; passed away on Sunday December 8, 2002. He was born October 11, 1956 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Marcus and Hughgla Mae White. Mr. White was a member of Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Benton High School and a veteran of the Marine Corp.

Survivors are his wife, Edna Dorian White; his parents, Marcus and Hughgla Mae White; two brothers, Scott White and his wife Robin all of Lonsdale and Joe White of Hot Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Eldon Spear, Ben Bowden, Willie Rhodes, Bill Wallis, Charles Allen Warford, Keith Parette, Marcus Griffin, Mark Thomas and Jim Neilson.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Vance Nutt officiating. Burial will follow at Ten Mile Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ashby Funeral Home from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the Ten Mile Missionary Baptist Church at 17511 Church Rd in Lonsdale, Arkansas 72087.

Mr. Terry Lee Bechtel

Mr. Terry Lee Bechtel, age 56, Mabelvale; passed away Monday December 9, 2002. He was born on May 28, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Mr. Bechtel was a Navy Seal.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye Bechtel.

There will be no services.

CURTIS H. DAWN

Curtis Houston Dawn, age 64, of Benton; passed away Monday February 10, 2003. He was born to the late Grant and Elnora Dawn on September 25, 1938 in Holly Springs, Arkansas. Mr. Dawn was a Mechanist at Prior Products, a member and Deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Benton and a Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Grant Dawn, Jr. and Jacob Dawn.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene White Dawn of Benton; two sons, David Grant Dawn and Curtis Stanley Dawn; three daughters, Rose Ann Dawn, Vivian Dawson and Bernadette Dawn all of Dallas, Texas; two step-sons, Jerry L. Danner of Benton and Terry L. Danner, U.S. Army, of Germany; three step-daughters, Regina Brown, Janice Danner and Renessa Ailsworth all of Benton; two brothers, William Junior Dawn and Robert Dawn both of Dallas, Texas; four sisters, Tenny Olleson of Eagle Mills, Annie Mae Craig of Sparkman, Beatrice Ransom and Jerline Williams both of Dallas, Texas; twelve grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Calvin, Larry Dawn, Christopher Dawn, Eric Ransom, W. Kenneth Lawn and James T. Dawson.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Mt. Zion Deacon Board and the Jordan Baptist Deacon Board.

Funeral services, by Ashby Funeral Home, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 15, 2003 at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Benton. The minister will be Rev. Luther Green, Jr.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at Ashby’s.

JAMES W. ROGERS

Mr. James Wesley Rogers, age 53 of Benton died Thursday at the VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was born January 28, 1950. Mr. Rogers was a roofer, a US Army Veteran, serving during the Vietname War and a member of the Truth Tabernacle Church.

Survivors, wife, Sydney Rose Rogers, Benton; sons, Michael Lee Rogers, and Richard Wesley Rogers, both of Benton; brothers, Jack Winford Rogers, Little Rock; Jackie Barrett, Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Avilla. Minister will be Bro. Art DeAscentes. military Honors will be by the V. F. W. Post # 2278 of Hot Springs.

Family visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Ashby’s.

MURRAY MAPLES

Murray Maples, age 64, of Mabelvale; passed away Thursday February 13, 2003. He was born to the late, Sam P. and Helen I. Maples on December 13, 1938 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Maples was a Cab Driver for Black and White Cab Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Maples and a sister.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Rose Maples of Bauxite, Ervin and Elizabeth Maples of Sardis; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Lorren Sears of Alexander; brother, Merle Maples of Lonoke; three sisters, Margaret Ernest of Little Rock; Marion Emmerson of North Little Rock and Matilda Standridge of Gravel Ridge; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Pinecrest Cemetery. The minister will be Rev. L. D. Campbell.

Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Ashby’s.

EDWARD E. McCALLISTER

Edward E. “Big Ed” McCallister, age 77, of Benton; passed away Friday after a long illness. He retired from the Benton City Power Plant in 1976 where he had worked there for a number of years. Mr. McCallister attended Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vester and Eula McCallister and his brother, Luther.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Lewis McCallister of 28 years; two daughters, Betty Garner of Columbus, Ohio and Shirley Snover of Hot Springs; son, Andy McCallister of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two step-children, Larry Lewis of Benton and Paula Duran of Bryant; three brothers, Marvin, Carroll and Rodger McCallister all of Benton; three sisters, Lenoria Allen of Ft. Smith, Connie Garner of Houston, Texas and Sue Buggar of Benton; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. Words cannot express the thoughtfulness to Hospice for the comfort they shared with us during Ed’s illness. From the bottom of my heart, I could not have done this without you. Thanks to all the staff of Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Garner, Eric McCallister, Jerrel McCallister, Lynn McCallister, Glynn McCallister and Larry Buggar.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Gatlin and Troy Smith.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Social Hill Cemetery. Rev. Jim Harrell and Bro. A.J. Allen will be officiating.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at Ashby’s.

PAULINE E. DOSS

Pauline Edna Garner Doss, age 85, of Benton; passed away Friday February 14, 2003. She was born to the late Steven and Lura Monroe on January 16, 1918 in Garland County, Arkansas. Mrs. Doss was a retired L.P.N. at Missouri Pacific Hospital and a member of the First Baptist Church in Benton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Doss; son, Clinton Doss; three brothers, Enos, James and Loy Garner; and one sister, Nellie Rigsby.

She is survived by her four sisters, Edith Hardin of California, Venita Lammey, Mittie Rowland and Ruth Geurin all of Benton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Hal Lammey, Kelly Rigsby, Steve Geurin, Randy Rowland, Guinn Rigsby and Paul Geurin and John Hardin

Funeral services will be 12:00 Monday at the Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Smith Creek Cemetery. The minister will be Dr. Rick Grant.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Ashby’s.

CHESTER STANSELL

Chester Douglas Stansell, age 61, of Benton; passed away Monday April 1, 2003. He was born to the late Daniel and Bertha Stansell on January 4, 1942 in Benton, Arkansas. Mr. Stansell served in the National Guard.

He is survived by his four sisters, Irene McMen, Mary Jo Winkler, Faye White all of Benton and Mae Burrow of Malvern.

Graveside services, by Ashby Funeral Home, will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Hot Springs.

CHARLES ARNDELL

Charles Edward Arndell, age 74, of Newport; passed away Wednesday April 2, 2003. He was born to the late Amos and Erdine Arndell on November 14, 1928 in Drakesboro, Kentucky. Mr. Arndell was retired from the Ford Company. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and Marshall Arndell.

He is survived by his six sons, John E. Arnold of Scottsville, Kentucky, Roger Arnold of Drakesboro, Kentucky, Donald R. Arndell of California, Kevin L. Arndell of Drakesboro, Kentucky, Patrick W. Arndell of Henderson, Kentucky and William C. Arnold of Whiteland, Indiana; two daughters, Pamela S. Henson of Cash and Kathy Howard of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two stepchildren, Dennis Dulsky of Beaver Dam, Kentucky and Denise Hatcher of Morgantown, Kentucky; two sisters, Daisy of Rochester, Kentucky and Agnes Arndell of Morgantown, Kentucky; twenty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements will be made at a later date.

CARL SMITH

Carl William Smith of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Glen Rose, died on March 21, 2003. He was born February 23, 1961 in Reedly, California. Mr. Smith was 42. He was a member of West Bauxite Baptist Church and a carpenter.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Smith; a former wife of Mayflower; parents, Elder W. T. and Dois Smith of Glen Rose; two sisters, Wanda J. Tompkins of Hot Springs and Linda D. Cook of Owensville; two nieces, Karena Diamond of Alexander and Emily Cook of Owensville and one nephew, Timothy Tompkins of Hot Springs.

Graveside services, by Ashby Funeral Home, will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Smith Creek Cemetery. The minister will be Bro. Carl Higgs.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Ashby’s.

DEAN A. ROUNTREE

Dean Alan Rountree, age 44, of Benton; was born April 30, 1959 and departed this life June 19, 2003. He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Helen and Bob McClard of Bismarck; father and step-mother, Dean and Madge Rountree of Prescott Valley, Arizona; brother, Robert Rountree of Little Rock; two nephews, Clay and Sean Rountree of Little Rock; step-brother, Wayne McClard of Bismarck; step-sisters, Debbie Norwood of Benton, Robin Phelan of Arkadelphia, Sandie Whisenant of Bismarck, Penny McClard of Austin, Texas and Diane McClard of Bismarck; and a special longtime friend, Rhonda Van Horn of Benton.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Ashby Funeral Home with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

PEARL MARGARET ALLEN DUE

Mrs. Pearl Margaret Allen Due age 103, of Benton, died Saturday June 21, 2003 in Little Rock. She was born July 27, 1899 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late A. M. and Minnie Allen. Mrs. Due was a housewife and a member of the Traskwood United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Due.

Survivors, son, John A. Due, Benton; daughter, Dorothy Due King, Little Rock; niece, Margaret Hurley, Fort Smith; and a nephew, Bill Allen Dixon, Santa Ana, California; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 3:00 PM Monday at Forest Hills Cemetery. Minister will be Rev. David Moore.

Memorials may be made to the Traskwood United Methodist Church.

ADAM BRUCE DOUGLAS SONTAG

Mr. Adam Bruce Douglas Sontag, age 19, of Walls, Mississippi, formerly of Benton, died Monday July 7, 2003 in Mississippi. He was born April 25, 1984 in Little Rock. Adam was a store clerk and a member of the First Baptist Church in Morrilton.

Survivors, parents, R. B. and Brenda Sontag, San Antonio, Texas; and Debbie and Darin Beckwith, Benton; brothers, Zackary (W.C.) Sontag, Michael (E. C.) Sontag, Matthew (T. C.)
