Damon Sowell
BIXBY, Okla. — Damon Ray Sowell, 40, of Bixby, formerly of Porum, Okla., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in Bixby. He worked as a transmission technologist.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Assembly of God in Porum with burial at Fields cemetery in Porum under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home of Porum.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Heather Burt of Bixby; two sons, Jeremy and Christopher Denham, both of Bixby; his parents, Jackie and Melba Schuelen of Porum and Lynn and Jeannie Sowell of Tulsa; four sisters, Sheryl and Sherry Sowell, both of Tulsa, Michelle Scheulen of Porum, and Dana Fuller of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two brothers, Pete Scheulen and Shannon Fuller, both of Porum; grandparents, Gladys Morgan and Jewell Scheulen; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Babe Mendenhall, Christopher Denham, Chris Burt, Dwayne and Roger Barnes and Troy Vinzant.

Betty Rankin
Betty J. Rankin, 75, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in a local hospital. She attended Independence Freewill Baptist Church in Natural Dam, was a former Whirlpool employee, and was the widow of Charles Rankin.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by five daughters, Joyce Coomer, Catherine Walker, and Nancy Cooper, all of Van Buren, Diane Reason of Rudy, and Patricia Workman of Cedarville; five sons, Glenn and Kenneth Rankin, both of Van Buren, Calvin Rankin of Rudy, Ricky Rankin of Kibler, and Charles Rankin of Barling; a brother, Charles Beals of Cedarville; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be David Symonds, Ron Smith, Dennis Motes, Ronnie Isam, Danny Speaks, Mike Williams and Gary Thibodeaux.

Bessie Chaney
MENA — Bessie Lou Chaney, 69, of Mena died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, in Mena. She was born April 6, 1935, in Norman. She was a homemaker and an aide to the elderly, and the widow of Gene Watt.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Concord cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie and Cheryl Chaney, both of Mena; two sons, Steve Chaney of Fort Smith and Kenneth Chaney of Oklahoma; five sisters, Bennie Carter of Mount Ida, Annie Hughes and Edna Mullins, both of Mena, Pamela O’Bar of Langley, and Maxine Dehart of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Wayne R. Sandifer
Wayne R. Sandifer went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005. Wayne was of the Baptist faith, he was retired from the construction business and had been a member of the Greenwood community for 70 years where he had many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gladys Sandifer; one daughter, Connie Jo Sandifer; two brothers, Richard and W.D. “Dub” Sandifer; three sisters, Imogene McGowan, Peggy Ann McGowan and Alberta Strozier.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gail of the home; two daughters, Sandra Robbins and her husband, Larry, and Angela Balm and her husband, David, all of Greenwood; three sisters, Nona Palmer of Hartford, Peggy Ball of Mansfield, and Ethel Reeves of Gillette, Wyo.; one brother, Tommy Sandifer of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Jordan Robbins, Anthony “Tony” and Krista Balm, all of Greenwood; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be graveside Friday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m. at Mount Harmony cemetery. Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home in Greenwood.
Pallbearers will be Bobby, Lonnie, Edward, Eric, Rodney and Tyler Sandifer.

Brent Lee Farrar
Brent Lee Farrar, 45, of Barling passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in Rogers. He was a truck driver for Dupre Transport. He was born Jan. 12, 1960, in Fresno, Calif., to Bruce and Joyce Farrar. He was a member of Heritage Oaks Freewill Baptist Church. He loved basketball and was a devoted husband and father. He devoted all of his free time to his children, whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Farrar.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with cremation to follow under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Pam Farrar of the home; his children, Hannah, Elijah and Ian Farrar, all of the home; parents, Bruce and Joyce Farrar of Barling; sisters, Debbie Jennings of Roland and Patty Deatherage of Clovis, Calif.; mother-in-law, Janis Cooper of Mountain Home and father-in-law, Jim Cooper of Mountain Home; paternal grandmother, Jewel Farrar of Pocahontas; his wife’s grandparents, Joe and Betty Grisco of Mountain Home; nephews, Denny Deatherage of Clovis, Calif., and Christopher Jennings of Fort Smith; and niece, Karen Cardwell of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Mike Snow, Mike Sweazy, Maurice Hannah, Bob Risenhoover, Anthony Johnson, Louie Oliver, Jim Kirby, Robert Jacobs and Dennis Deatherage.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In memory of Brent, a memorial fund has been set up for his children at First National Bank, 602 Garrison Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901; Account No. 4066452.

Bula Shelly
KIBLER — Bula Fay Shelly, 63, of Kibler died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, in her home. She attended Jubilee Christian Center.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Sarah Grove cemetery in Cedarville.
She is survived by her husband, Leon; three daughters, Debbie Woodard and Karen Curran, both of Van Buren, and Kathy Franklin of Greenwood; two sons, Ronny and Keven Shelly, both of Van Buren; a sister, Minnie Rouse of Piggott; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Still, Clifford Watson, Bill and Ray McFadden, Benny Shelly and Robert Blasingame.

Calvin Johnson
OZARK — Calvin Coolidge Johnson, 79, of Ozark died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, in his home. He was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Saint Paul. He was retired from Campbell Soup Co.; he was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Saint Paul Bible Church with burial at Brashears cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
He is survived by a daughter, Frances Savage of Moberly, Mo.; two sons, Harvey Johnson of Rogers and Carl Johnson of Korea; three sisters, Wilma Watson of Fayetteville, Nellie Wilson of Huntsville, and Clara Green of California; a brother, John Johnson of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clint Johnson, Gary Berry, Richard and Jonathan Savage, Wesley Sanders and Nick Nickel. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Charity Davis
PARKS — Charity Atchley Davis, 87, of Parks died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in her home. She was a homemaker, a freewill Baptist and the widow of Gip Atchley and George Davis.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Hawkins cemetery near Parks.
She is survived by a sister, Lovie Rose of Abbott; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John, Jim, J.T. and Mac Atchley, Chris and Bobby Himes.
The body may be viewed 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Fred Ford
MENA — Fred Ford, 91, of Mena died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in Mena. He was born Aug. 31, 1913, in Y City. He was a mechanic and of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Freewill Baptist Church in Mena with burial at Highland cemetery in Cherry Hill under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Civilene.

Kathleen Warren
OZONE — Kathleen Adair Warren, 76, of Ozone died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in her home. She was member of Ozone Baptist Church and the widow of Lee Warren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ozone Baptist Church with burial at Russell cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by three daughters, Mickie Hency and Janie Wheeler, both of Ozone, and Betty Wheeler of Clarksville; a son, Harold Warren of Fort Smith; a sister, Marie Redding of Mariposa, Calif.; a brother, Henry Adair of Portland, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Roger Ost, Tony Havener, Derek Killane, Jason Pattermann, Donnie Underwood and Carl Wheeler.
The family will visit with friends and the body may be viewed from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Destiny Singer
CLARKSVILLE — Destiny Kay Singer, infant daughter of Robin Singer of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in a Little Rock hospital. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Clarksville.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with burial at Holy Redeemer Catholic cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sisters, Ashley and Britney Gee of Clarksville; a halfsister, Laura Roberson; a brother, Cody Singer of Clarksville; a halfbrother, Johnathon Roberson; maternal grandmother, Lorna Singer of Clarksville; paternal grandmother, Betty Poindexter of Clarksville; and great-grandmother, Rita Dilocker of Omaha, Neb.
The family will visit with friends and the body may be viewed from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jerry Warden
Jerry Warden, 54, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, in his home. He was born March 11, 1950, in Fort Smith. He was a security guard, of the Methodist faith, and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at U.S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; two daughters, Jennifer Roller of Fayetteville and Julie Roller of Van Buren; three sons, Jeremy Roller of Fayetteville, Jerry Dryden of Eugene, Ore., and Scott Polatty of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary and David Brown, Jeremy Roller, Nathan Stockemer, Allen Palmer and Mike Blakenship.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dennis L. Kanady
Dennis L. Kanady, 58, of Ratcliff died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital of natural causes. He was born Jan. 22, 1946, in Madera, Calif., to G.W. Kanady and Mable Gipson Kanady. While living in California, Dennis was a maintenance supervisor for the El Monte School District. He was the baseball coach at Mountain View High School in El Monte, which he enjoyed very much. While living here in Arkansas, Dennis was a deputy sheriff for the Logan County Sheriff’s Department. Dennis attended the Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Garden of Memories cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home of Paris. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Bill Van Meter.
He is survived by a daughter, Jamie Morse of Cherry, Ill.; two sons, James Kanady of California and Dennis A. Kanady of Macon, Ga.; his mother, Mable Kanady of Ratcliff; two sisters, Anice Eulema “Beba” O’Neal and Mary Ann Hawk, both of Ratcliff; six grandchildren and his favorite dog, Bubba.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Stubblefield, Alan Guise, Mike Core, David Ryles, Melvin “Buzz” O’Neal and James Hawkins.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bernice Gillespie
Bernice Gillespie, age 90, of Fort Smith passed away at her home Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005. She was an active member of the Aldersgate Sunday school class and member of First United Methodist Church. She lived her entire life in Fort Smith, except for the time she spent attending Randolph Macon College in Virginia, where she was a Chi Omega. All who knew her will miss her loving smile and touch. She was a wonderful wife and homemaker. Her proudest undertaking was in nurturing her six sons to successful manhood. Her legacy lives on through her boys. She never had a job outside the home or learned to drive a car, but she was always there for a friend, neighbor or family member in need. Her parents, Grover and Amelia Denmark, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Roebuck Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Oak cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Pat Gillespie; their six sons, Patrick Gillespie of Raleigh, N.C., Michael Gillespie of Bonita Springs, Fla., Steve Gillespie of Clearwater, Fla., Dr. Edward Gillespie of Ardmore, Okla., Lee Gillespie of Little Rock and James Gillespie of Atlanta; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her caregiver of many years, Jane Broaddrick.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Gillespie’s sons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.
