Charles Martin Kirn

Charles Martin Kirn of Sherwood died Sept. 15, 2003, at the age of 70.
He was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force with 26 years of service. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving in Vietnam.

Survivor is his wife, Jackie Kirn.

A celebration of his life was held Sept. 19, at Griffin-Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, North Little Rock, with interment at Arkansas State Veterans cemetery on W. Maryland Avenue in North Little Rock.

Memorials may be made in his honor to Arkansas Hospice Center, 2200 Ft. Roots Dr., North Little Rock, Ark. 72114.

Ann Lithgo Worrell

Ann Lithgo Worrell, 98, of North Little Rock, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003.
She was a member of the Sherwood First Baptist Church

She is survived by three sons, Robert Worrell of Sherwood, Bill Worrell of San Antonio, Texas, Nikki Worrell of Sherwood; two daughters, Melba McGowen of Tyler, Texas, Shirley Adams of New Hampshire; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren.

Graveside services, under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home were Sept. 19, at Bethel cemetery.

James "Lamar" Davis
James "Lamar" Davis of Conway died Oct. 8, 2004.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Dot Walker.

He was raised in Trumann, the son of R.L. and Mabel Person Davis. He graduated from Hendrix College in 1953, and from the Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1956. He was a retired United Methodist minister, having served churches and Wesley Foundations in Arkansas, Louisiana and Kansas. He was pastor of Walnut Ridge First United Methodist Church from 1987-1992. After retirement, he continued his ministry, working at Hendrix College and with many community organizations, youth groups and as a caregiver to many others.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ann Davis; a daughter, Leigh Walls, Conway; a son, Alan Davis, Kenya; and four grandchildren, Luke Walls, Micah Davis, Claya Davis and Tyler Davis.

Family visitation was Monday evening at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. On Tuesday morning, a committal service was held at the columbarium of First United Methodist Church in Conway. A worship service was held at 2 p.m. at the church.

Erma Lean Wesley

Erma Lean Wesley died Nov. 5, 2003.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Lake Village, where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was the first secretary of the Lake Village Community Choir and member of the Bea Gilbert Chapter #343 of the Order of Eastern Star. As a service to the community, she was a long time employee of Lakeside School District.

Survivors are her husband, Deacon Willie Reed of Lake Village; and her children, Rev. Dwight E. Wesley of Chicago, Ill., Wilton Wesley of Jacksonville, Ricky Childs of Pine Bluff, Sheila Coleman, Sandra K. Bailey, Lena Toney, Mary Lisa Lane, all of Lake Village, Billie Jean Crosby of Douglasville, Ga., Gentry Wesley of Sherwood, Andre Coleman of Turrell, and Kandi McCoy of Conway; 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are with Gunn Funeral Home, Little Rock.

U.L. “Bill” Hinkson

U.L. “Bill” Hinkson, 86, of Sherwood, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003.
He was a member of Sylvan Hills Community Church. He was Pillar of Solomon Award and Past Master of Sylvan Hill Masonic Lodge #754. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and Scottish Right of Arkansas and a Shriner in the Scimitar Shrine Temple.

He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Wilma “Billie” Hinkson; one son, John Hinkson of Cabot; one daughter, Carol Young of Sherwood; one sister, Ruby McPherson of Sherwood; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Hospice or Sylvan Hills Community Church Building Fund.

Funeral services were Wednesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Sumner cemetery in Jacksonville.

Billy Clay Harris
Billy Clay Harris, 78, of Searcy, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Aug. 26, 2004, at White County Medical Center.

Born Jan. 14, 1926, he was the son of William and Clara Harris. He was a minister for more than fifty years and served at several different congregations in Arkansas, Texas, Georgia and Indiana. He ministered in several Churches of Christ in Lawrence County. He also held gospel meetings in many other areas of the nation and was a missionary to Japan. He was a member of the College Church of Christ and Pangburn Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Claudette Harris Alexander; and a stepson, Howard Lemmons.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Doris Claypool Lemmons Harris; a daughter Billy "Bunny" Scoggins, North Little Rock; a brother, Jack Harris, Searcy; and two granddaughters, Amy Brown and Kathryn McFarland.

A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home Chapel in Searcy.

Memorials may be made to Children's Home of Paragould and International Healthcare Foundation.

Paula Shafer

Paula Shafer, 64, of Waveland, died Monday.

Survivors: children - Rick Shafer, Magazine, Jennifer Shafer-Bancroft, Waveland, Julie Hays, Sherwood; siblings - Edward Woodley, Arizona, Guy Woodley Jr. and Richard Woodley, both of Indiana, Patricia McBride, Kentucky, Maryellen Kantz, North Carolina; six grandchildren.

Services were Thursday, Waveland Community Church, Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville.

Hazel K. Wasson

Hazel K. Wasson, 84, of North Little Rock died Oct. 3, 2003.
She was the widow of H. Kenneth Wasson.

She is survived by her daughters, Marsha Henderson of Cabot, Rebecca James of Sherwood and Sandra Brower of Kennesaw, Ga.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Levy United Methodist Church, where funeral services were held Monday. Entombment was at Edgewood Memorial Park. Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood was in charge.

Bobby Thornton

Bobby McEver Thornton, 72, of Blytheville died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003.
He was of the Baptist faith. He was a plant manager of Heekin Can Co. for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Blytheville Rotary Club, the Blytheville Rose Society and the Blytheville-Gosnell Regional Airport Authority. He had served on the Election Commission.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Carol Mantooth Thornton of the home; one son, Mickey D. Thornton of Marion, Ark.; one daughter, Bobbie Lynn Louthian of Sherwood; two brothers, Gordon Thornton of Newport, Tenn., and Guy Huff of Jefferson City, Tenn.; one sister, Jo Ann Patrick of Dandridge, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 6, in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville with burial in the Dogwood Mausoleum.

Jeffrey R. Avon

Jeffrey R. Avon, 27, of Sherwood, died Oct. 3, 2003.
Services were Friday, Oct. 10, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, Iowa.

Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices Mt. Vernonwere in charge of arrangements.

He was the Superintendent of Grounds at the North Hills Country Club in Sherwood.

James L. Milhollen

James L. Milhollen, age 81, of Sherwood died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003.
He was a veteran of WWII, and was merchandise manager of Fones Brothers Hardware for 40 years and employee of IHP and Arkansas Fastening. He was a member of 6th and Izard St. Church of Christ for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of 60 years; son, Mark Milhollen; daughter, Melissa Fuller; and two grandsons.

Graveside service was Oct. 7, at Roselawn Memorial Park. Roller-Owens Funeral Home was in charge.

Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 212 Natural Resources Dr., Little Rock, Ark.

Marilyn K. Kociuk
Marilyn K. Kociuk, 59, of Plymouth, Mich., formerly of Walnut Ridge, died Oct. 11, 2004, in Superior Township, Mich., following an illness of several months.

She attended Walnut Ridge School and was the granddaughter of the late Anna Bush.

She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Hubbs.

Survivors include her husband, Bodhdan "Bud" Kociuk; a son, David Kociuk; her mother, Mabel Hubbs, Lewes, Del.; and sister, Libby Rotsch, Lewes, Del.

Funeral is Thursday at 10 a.m. at Vermeulen Trust 100 Funeral Home in Plymouth. A graveside service will be held Saturday at Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Boulevard, Ste. 1010, Rockville, MD 20852-9813.

Florence R. Rugen

Florence R. Rugen, 87, of Sherwood died Nov. 16, 2003.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Leroy W. Rugen; son, Orrin P. Rugen of Highland Village, Texas; daughter, Mary K. Rugen of Little Rock; and five grandchildren.

She was a former member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Northbrook, Ill., and was a member of First United Methodist Church of North Little Rock. She was a member of the North Shore Illinois Council of Girl Scouts, was active in the Parent Teacher Association and was a Life Member of the Illinois Parent Teacher Association. She was a founding member of the Glenview Historical Society. She worked for 17 years for the Glenview Public School District. She also served as a member of the Volunteer Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital of North Little Rock, serving in the surgery waiting room for 12 years. She was president of the auxiliary twice and held several board positions.

The family requests donations be made to Arkansas Hospice Center, 2200 Ft. Roots Dr., North Little Rock, Ark. 72114; the Humane Society of Pulaski County, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72210; or the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, Ark. 72203.

Nancy Dennis

Nancy Dennis, 61, former registered nurse at Medical Center of South Arkansas, El Dorado, died Sunday.

Survivors include brother, Jim Buford of Sherwood; and sister, Patricia Holt, Long Beach, Calif.

Graveside services were Tuesday, Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, conducted by Young’s Funeral Directors, El Dorado.

Georgia Oleta Way

Georgia Oleta Way, 88, of Humnoke, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003.
She was a member of Humnoke United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Ables; one son, Kenneth Way, both of Humnoke; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Effie Marie Fuller, Sherwood, Evelyn Ramer, Fordyce, Hazel Claybaugh, Fort Smith, Joyce Tilbury, and Elsie Jane Johnston, Bastrop, La.

Services were Nov. 17 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Humnoke, with interment in Carlisle cemetery, Carlisle. Services by Wilson Funeral Home, England.
