Bobby Weldon
Bobby Weldon, 71, of Van Buren died Friday, March 26, 2004, at a local hospital. A retired auto parts salesman, he was a reserve deputy for the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department and a member of Riverview Fellowship Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorcas; a son, Clifford Weldon of Van Buren; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 29 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Dwight Payne, Mack McKinley, Howard Johnson, Darrell Farouhar, Kenny Hibbard and Darrell Martin.

Barbara Boen
Barbara J. Boen, 67, of Van Buren died Friday, March 26, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a retired bookkeeper and member of Pleasant View Church of Christ. She was the widow of Sammy Boen.
She is survived by two sons, Michael and Keith Boen, both of Van Buren; three sisters, Rita Littlejohn and Nettie Walkingstick, both of Stillwell, and Jeanne Ritter of Wichita, Kan.; three brothers, Zeak Brown of Bakersfield, Calif., Bill Brown of Stillwell and Jim Brown of Westville, Okla.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 30 in Pleasant View Church of Christ in Stillwell with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Keith M. Bowen, Jonathan Keys, Darrell Chastain, Rick and Jeremy Walkingstick and Bobby Gardenhire.

Walter Howard
Walter Franklin Howard, 83, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 29, 2004, at a local hospital. He was a member of New Bethel Assembly of God, a Marine veteran of World War II and was retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing Co. in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Lora Mae Howard.
Funeral service was held March 31 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Ronny Howard, Lavel Durbrow, James Pike, Glen Young, Harold Bibbs and Charles Jones.

Betty Hoyle
Betty J. Hoyle, 80, of Alma died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Alma. She was a retired employee of Adams Drug Store in Alma and a member of Alma United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Q. Hoyle.
Survivors include one niece, Norma Timmons of Lima, Ohio; one great niece, Teresa Luna of Lima, Ohio; and one great nephew, Johnny Timmons of Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Jacob Dakin
Jacob Lee Dakin, infant son of Linda Moore and Jay Dakin of Fort Smith, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at a local hospital.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Breanna Linn Moore of the home; paternal grandmother, Rhonda Dakin of Oregon; maternal grandfather, Ronald Harvey of Hahira, Ga.

Grace Warren
Grace Warren, 69, of Prairie Grove died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a self-employed store manager.
She is survived by her husband, James; 13 daughters, Phyllis Moore of Springdale, Chris Malkemes of Leavenworth, Kan., Terrie Cluck of Chester, Trina Cluck of Afton, Okla., Shirley Grogan of Goshen, Johnnie Bruce, Ora Wolfgram, Carolyn Teague, Donna Rogers and Tammy Lasiter, all of Mountainburg, B.J. Johnson of Prairie Grove, Mary Hewitt of Charleston and Ruth Krajewski of Van Buren; five sons, Charles Poor of Prairie Grove, Scott Oliver of Fort Smith, Billy Oliver of Round Mountain, Nev., Harold Oliver of Careywood, Idaho, and Tim Oliver of Noble, Okla.; a sister, Wanda Packard of Prairie Grove; a brother, the Rev. Gene Tyler of Dickson, Tenn.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 29 at Mountainburg First Baptist Church with burial at Conley Cemetery in Mountainburg under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were members of her family.

Mary Jarrard
Mary L. Jarrard, 94, of Van Buren died Monday, March 22, 2004, in Van Buren. She was owner operator of Mary J’s Beauty Salon in Fort Smith, longtime cosmetologist and a Catholic. She was the widow of William Jarrard.
Funeral service was held March 25 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by one son, Bill Jarrard of Van Buren; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Trudy Smith
Trudy G. Smith, 98, of Van Buren died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at a local nursing home. She was a women’s wear sales clerk and a member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Fort Smith. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband.
She is survived by two daughters, Willa Dean Welch of Oklahma City and Odessa Gentry of Whitewater Community; a son, Dennis Smith of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Eva June Morris of Van Buren; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 27 at Faith Assembly of God Church with burial at Morrison Cemetery in Rudy under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were her family members.

Wanda Cole
Services for Mrs. Wanda E. Blevins Cole, 92, of Kilgore, Texas were Thursday, March 25, 2004, at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Henderson and Bill Gilmore officiating. Burial followed in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Cole passed away Tuesday morning, March 23, 2004, in Kilgore.
Mrs. Cole was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Alma to the late James Arthur and Addie Lee Blevins. She was a longtime faithful member of the Eastview Baptist Church. Mrs. Cole was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker.
Mrs. Cole is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James Thomas “Tom” Cole who passed away in 1999.
Survivors include three sons and one daughter; Dwight Cole of Emerald Bay in Smith County, James Jr. and Clyda Cole of Longview, Ronnie and Judy Cole of Kilgore and Lee Ann and Bill Gilmore of Arlington; one brother and sister-in-law, Itis and Dorothy Blevins of Alma; one brother-in-law Glen Pound of LaJoye, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Ron Cole, Ronna Kay Cole, Bryan Cole, Tamie Cole, Dena Woddard, Gena Matthews, Kim Gilmore, Mike Gilmore and David Gilmore; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Eastview Baptist Church, 1105 N. Longview, Kilgore, Texas 75662.

Lonzo Wallace
Lonzo J. Wallace, 87, of Van Buren died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at a local nursing home. He was a member of Maple Freewill Baptist Church in Maple, Okla., Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6, Western Arkansas Consistory, Armita Grotto and Frisco Club. He was retired from the Frisco Railroad after 36 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ona Wallace; three daughters, Roseann Pena of Liberty, Okla., and Kay Hays and Marilyn Muchmore, both of Van Buren; a son, Ronnie Wallace of Fort Smith; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 27 at Ocker Memorial Chapel with Masonic graveside service at Gracelawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Vickery, Kenneth Dempsey, Jerry Williams, Carl Bruns, Eckel Rowland and John Rotert. Honorary pallbearers were Masons.

Wayne Johnson
Wayne Franklin Johnson, 82, of Farmington died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at a hospital. He was a retired employee of Arkansas Western Gas after more than 40 years of service and widower of Virginia Johnson. He was a member of Round Mountain Community Church and Army veteran of World War II, having received a Silver Star and Bronze Star.
Survivors include a son, David Johnson of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, James Battles and Jeremy Wayne Johnson, both of Alma; and three great-grandchildren, Colton, Jori and Drew Battles.
Funeral service was held march 27 at Moore’s Chapel with burial at Round Mountain Cemetery.

Josie Peters
Josie Spencer Peters, 92, of Montrose, Colo., died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, in Montrose. She attended school in Mountainburg. She was an expert seamstress, making dresses for daughters and later granddaughters. She particularly enjoyed making quilts of all types and giving them away to family members. She lived at various locations in Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado, but always considered Arkansas to be her home. After her husband’s retirement from the Corps of Engineers, they worked with foster children in homes in Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. Her last years after her husband’s passing in 1997 were spent in Spring Creek Chalet in Montrose. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Adah Spencer; her husband, James S. Peters; a daughter, Neva Richard; and three brothers.
Funeral service was held June 1 at the Presbyterian Church in Alma with burial at Peters Cemetery near Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue Smith of Hurst, Texas; a son, James Peters Jr. and his wife Sue of Montrose; a sister, Grace Peters of Fort Smith; a brother, Bert Spencer of Avella, Pa.; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.

Ramona Thomas
Ramona L. Thomas, 72, of Van Buren died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at a local hospital. She was a retired employee of Ward’s Furniture, former employee of Fondren Construction and member of Living Word Church in Van Buren.
Graveside service was held June 2 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Hacker of Van Buren; one son, Larry McDaniel of Greenwood; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Living Word Church, 1445 Clyde Cate Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.
