William W. Johnson

JONESBORO — William Wilburn Johnson, 73, of Jonesboro died Friday, Sept. 24, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Rolling Fork, Miss., to Charley and Louise Johnson. On Dec. 17, 1958, he married Charlene Thornhill.

At the age of 16, he obtained his private pilot license, then his commercial license at the age of 22. In 1969, Mr. Johnson started Johnson Flying Service in Bakersfield, Calif., and in 1975 he moved to Weiner, where he flew until the age of 65 alongside his two sons, Cory and Trampas.

He was a member and past president of the Arkansas Agricultural Aviation Association. He was also a member of Greenfield Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Marines from 1956-58.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Johnson of the home; three sons, Cory (Melaine) Johnson of Weiner, Rolly Johnson of Wynne and Trampas (April) Johnson of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Lexi Johnson, Grant Johnson, Trevor Johnson, Jacob Brumley and Connor Tinsley; three brothers, James Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Ronnie Johnson; and a sister, Margie Marie Womble.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jessica Laine Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Roller-Farmers Union Chapel in Jonesboro with Dan Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery in Uno.

Pallbearers will include Brad Malone, Kenny Gardner, Scott Matthews, Jason Malone, Jerry Teague and Calvin Henderson. Honorary bearers will include Darryl Riddell, Tommy Wofford, Barry Huber, Gary Sitzer, Scott Rainey, John Wofford, Kenneth Grady, Billy Ray Cooper and Arkansas Agricultural Aviation Association members.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1601 East Johnson Ave., Jonesboro 72401.

The family requests that lasting memorials be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Way, Little Rock 72202; or the Weiner Fire Department, 101 North Washington St., Weiner 72479.

Dale S. McKinney

JONESBORO — Dale S. McKinney, 73, of Jonesboro died Friday, Sept. 24, at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.

He was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, where he sang in the Chancel Choir for 47 years, was a charter member of Pathfinders Sunday school class and was a member of the Men’s Prayer Group. He was also a charter member of the University Heights Lions Club.

Mr. McKinney was the co-owner with Ralph Broadway (until his retirement) of Broadway’s, and the owner of Broadway’s, Tot to Teen Shop, Broadway Fashions and Broadway Men’s Store until his retirement in 2003. He also enjoyed bowling and golf.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Jane Adams McKinney of the home; three sons, David (Morrie) McKinney of Cabot, Rick (Dana) McKinney of Jonesboro and Don (ChrisAnn) McKinney of Slidell, La.; five grandchildren, Lauren McKinney, Drake McKinney, Rachel McKinney, Cameron McKinney and Michael McKinney; and two sisters, Doris Clark of Jonesboro and Charlotte Smith of Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.V. and Gladys McKinney; and an infant brother, Don Curtis McKinney.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cornerstone United Methodist Church with the Revs. N. Wayne Clark, William Christopher Cooper and Jeanne Williams officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will include Tony Futrell, Joe Mack Campbell, Logan Cothern, Fred Steinegger, Jim Hall, University Heights Lions Club and Pathfinders Sunday school class.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time and again after the service.

The family requests that lasting memorials be made to Cornerstone United Methodist Church Piano Fund, 1910 Disciple Drive, Jonesboro 72401; Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House, 1148 East Matthews Ave., Jonesboro 72401; or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York 10163.

Juneis Wayne Prince

JONESBORO — Juneis Wayne Prince, 46, of Jonesboro died Saturday morning in a 1-vehicle accident near Bono.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Danny Ray

NEWPORT — Danny Ray, 57, of Newport died Friday, Sept. 24.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Critcher Ray; two daughters, Elizabeth Lee Whitford of Little Rock and Lauren Rebecca Smith and husband Andy of Tampa, Fla.; his mother, Dorothy Ray; three brothers, James Ray of Tuckerman, David Ray of Memphis and Donald Crawford of Newport; two sisters, Shirley Ray Patterson of Newport and Betty Wagster of Green Forest; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel at Newport with interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-9 tonight.

Lela Faye Scudder

WALNUT RIDGE — Lela Faye Scudder, 97, of Walnut Ridge passed away Saturday, Sept. 25.

Born at Eaton, daughter of Henry and Loma Goad Oldham, she was a former cashier for Piggy Wiggly grocery store in Walnut Ridge and a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M.A. Scudder, on Jan. 8, 1988.

Survivors include her sons, Leroy Scudder and wife Luella of Walnut Ridge and Dennis Scudder and wife Maleta of Paragould; a brother, Elvis Oldham of Omaha, Neb.; three sisters, Beuna Mathey of West Memphis, Marjorie Blackshear of Rockwell, Texas, and Armolee Garner of Paragould; two grandsons, Bob and Jim Scudder; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Kent, Ellen, Tyler and Trevor.

Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Free Will Baptist Church with Ryan Johnston officiating. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Interment will be in Cross Roads Cemetery near Portia under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Andrenna Taylor Smith

NEWPORT — Andrenna Taylor Smith, 44, of Newport died Thursday, Sept. 23.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Smith; daughter, Alicia Kaye Taylor; mother, Sharon Davis; fiancé, Billy Ford; brothers, Sean of Jonesboro and Lawrence of Florida; extended family, Chauncey, Madison, Austin and Payton Ford; and three nephews.

Funeral services are 3 p.m. Monday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Sandhill Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. today.

The family requests memorials be made to the Andrenna Smith Fund, c/o Jackson’s Funeral Home, 1900 Malcolm Ave., Newport 72112.

Floyd Throgmorton Jr.

WYNNE — Floyd Ellis Throgmorton Jr., 71, of Wynne died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Crossridge Community Hospital in Wynne.

Born in Bay, Ellis moved to Wynne 52 years ago. He owned and operated a television repair shop in Wynne for many years. Ellis was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church in Wynne, where he was a deacon, served as a training union director and operated the audio system.

Ellis enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Ellis Sr. and Ora Hinton Throgmorton, and by a brother, Morris Eugene Throgmorton.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Frances Dedman Throgmorton of the home; one son and his wife, Ricky and Dana Throgmorton of Fort Smith; two daughters and their husbands, Pamela and Dewey Wilson of Vanndale and Teresa and Cole Price of Siloam Springs; one sister, Shirley Greenhill of Gillett; five grandchildren, Jason Wilson, Katina Wilson, Casey Webb, Tad Throgmorton and Kelsey Throgmorton; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in Ridgeview Baptist Church in Wynne with the Rev. Woodie Sanders officiating.

Active pallbearers include Bill Garland, Donald Cox, James Fletcher, Jerry Caldwell, Kenneth McKnight and Buddy Owens.

Honorary pallbearers include Wylie Brown, Ralph Doss and E.G. Neiswander.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today at Ridgeview Baptist Church in Wynne.

Carlton Lee Ballard Sr.

TRUMANN — Carlton Lee Ballard Sr., of Trumann died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro.

He was born at Jonesboro and had lived most of his life in Trumann. He was an animal control officer for the City of Trumann and of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Ballard was preceded in death by his father, George Lewis Ballard, and one brother, Bobby Ballard.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Cricket Lowery Ballard of the home; one daughter, Christy Harp and husband Brian of Trumann; one son, Lee Ballard and wife DeAnna of Trumann; three sisters, Betty Presley of Shorewood, Ill., Carolyn Farmer of Trumann and Darlene Blasingame of Rockford, Mich.; and two grandchildren, Bailye Ballard and Clay Harp of Trumann.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the First General Baptist Church of Trumann, with the Revs. Leonard Harp and Darrel Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Lee Ballard, Brian Harp, Clay Harp, Gary Watkins, Gary Anderson and Jackie Reagle.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and City of Trumann employees.

Visitation will be tonight from 5-7 at the First General Baptist Church.

Carl F. Beck Jr.

RECTOR — Carl F. Beck Jr. of Rector passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Beck; three sons, Bryan Beck, Roger Beck and Randy Beck; three daughters, Carla Calvin, Christy Smith and Tami Beck; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother; and seven sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with Don Evans officiating. Burial will be in Nimmons Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight at 6.
