Sonja Tosh Thompson
JONESBORO — Mrs. Sonja Tosh Thompson, 60, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro surrounded by her family.
She was born in and a lifetime resident of Jonesboro. Mrs. Thompson was a 1968 graduate of Valley View High School and was of the Baptist faith. As a real estate agent, she owned and operated Thompson Real Estate, along with her husband, for many years.
More than anything, Mrs. Thompson enjoyed spending time with her husband, daughters and grandson.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Lafoy Tosh, and her parents, Jessie A. Tosh and Opal Mann Tosh McCoy.
Survivors include her husband, John H. “Tommy” Thompson Jr. of the home; one son, John Howell “Hal” Thompson III of Rogers; two daughters, Deanna Gilbert Cagle and husband Jeff, and Tonya Thompson Matthews, all of Jonesboro; two brothers, Dwight Tosh of Jonesboro and Godoy Tosh of Bluffton, Ind.; one grandson, John Phillip Matthews; and one granddaughter, Grace Thompson.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home at Trumann with Jerry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Charlie Tosh, Larry Tosh, Brant Tosh, Myron Tosh, Eric Adams and Jeff Cagle.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Betty Jean Vaden
McRAE — Betty Jean Vaden, 79, of McRae died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011.
She was born July 1, 1931, at Black Oak to the late Wesley and Altie Vaughn Berry. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Vaden was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Linda Jean Vaden; three brothers, Ruben Berry, J.W. Berry and Bruce Berry; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Berry Wilson and Martha Jeanette Berry.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Vaden; two sons, Thomas Vaden and wife Mona, and Danny Vaden and wife Gail, all of McRae; daughter, Barbara Vaden of McRae; brother, Bernard Berry and wife Joyce; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and friends.
A visitation time will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday with services following at 2 in Roller-Daniel Funeral Home with Jeff Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Weir Cemetery.
Virda Rosella Watson
JONESBORO — Virda Rosella Watson, 201 Mark St., Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. She was 89 years old.
She was a faithful Christian and attended the Assembly of God.
She was born April 17, 1921, at Mason, Okla. She was the daughter of Edmond Andrew Wilson and Linda Ellen Sousley Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband and the father of their seven daughters, Edward Louis Watson, and by seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her seven daughters, Melva Rosand Kazzee of Pocahontas, Delma Jeanene Tiner and her husband John of High Ridge, Mo., Linda Bland and her husband Carl of Marynard, Glenis Wilson and her husband Ronald of Frankfort, Ind., Janice Marshall and her husband Lamar of West Memphis, Imogene Baldwin and her husband Steve of Jonesboro and Jayetta Slawson of Hammond, La.
She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed the love of her large extended family.
In addition to raising seven daughters, Mrs. Watson lived a long and fulfilling life. She owned and managed the Rendezvous Café in Pocahontas for many years.
After her children were grown, Mrs. Watson earned her high school diploma. At that time she said, “It’s nice to feel like a schoolgirl again, especially after rearing seven girls.” She also attended Southern Baptist College, where she worked as a dorm mother.
She served as head cook for a large hospital in Fort Payne, Ala.
She sang and played the guitar. Virda traveled extensively on tours conducted by Jerry Gibbens throughout the United States and Canada and painted scenes of America.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McNabb Funeral Home in Pocahontas with Pastor Terry Miller presiding. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery
at Pocahontas.
Visitation will precede the funeral service at 1 p.m.
The First Assembly of God, 605 South Park St., Pocahontas, is preparing a lunch for 11 a.m. Saturday.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be five of her grandsons and one great-grandson, John Watson Tiner, Scott Bland, Zachary Slawson, Oliver Slawson, Jonathan Marshall and Colton Morgan Mixon.
Beverly Ann Brewington
PARAGOULD — Beverly Ann Brewington, 63, of Paragould passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.
She was born Feb. 26, 1948, in Detroit to William and Florence Fry. She loved to quilt, sew, watch NASCAR races and women’s softball games. She attended Oak Grove Church of Christ and Second & Walnut Church of Christ.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Doris Copeland; a brother, Jerry Fry; and a daughter, Lori Ann Brewington.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Brewington; two daughters, Tammy Brewington of Paragould and Julie McCord of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two brothers, Bobby and Danny Fry, both of Paragould; one sister, Peggy Keefe of Franklin, Tenn.; and three grandchildren, Hunter McCord, Savannah Sides and Makayla Brewington.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Phillips Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Center Hill Chapel at Phillips Funeral Home with Herbert Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Greene county Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be James Brewington, Eddie Brewington, Robert Cooper, James Hold, Ed Walls, Charles Chafin and Ryan Rose.

Joyce Cluck
PIGGOTT — Joyce Cluck, 82, of Piggott passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.
Survivors include her daughter, Donajo Simpson and husband Larry Dean of Greenway; five grandchildren, Tanya Smith, Erik Simpson, Jason Cluck, Aaron Cluck and Jeremy Cluck; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Neil Cluck of Piggott; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Jackson of Donaldson, Tenn.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Jerry Morgan and Tommie Boles officiating. Burial will be in Piggott Cemetery. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is at 6 tonight.
Faris Ray Conyers
JONESBORO — Faris Ray Conyers, 52, of Jonesboro died Saturday at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He was owner, operator and designer of Conyers Florist in the Nettleton community for many years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a 1977 graduate of Nettleton High School and a member of Nettleton Lions Club.
He enjoyed playing music; he was a member of two bands, Flashback and Overland. He also enjoyed collecting records.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna Moulder Conyers; mother, Ruth Hankins Conyers; two sisters, Teresa Ann (Daniel) Aspinwal of Jonesboro and Judy Renee (Michael) Holaway of Paragould; three nieces, Brandi Hamilton of Little Rock, Amanda Mitchell of Jonesboro and Leah Holaway of Paragould; a nephew, Jason Davis; and his mother-in-law, Willene Moulder of Jonesboro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Faris Odell Conyers; one sister, Pamela Adele Conyers; and one nephew, Jeffry Davis.
Visitation for Mr. Conyers will be from 6-8 tonight at Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
A celebration of his life will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Gregg Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Winningham officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Earl ‘Short’ Gipson
ST. LOUIS — Earl “Short” Gipson was born into this world on June 9, 1927, and passed to the next on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011.
Short was a medical corpsman in the Army Air Force at the end of World War II and a General Baptist minister for 51 years. At 25 years old he moved to St. Louis with his new family, where he worked and retired as a Teamster on the docks at Campbell 66.
He was also a member with the local American Legion Post 22, and he spent his time as he pleased with his wife and his garden. His door was always open to receive visits from family and friends.
Short was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Gipson; a son, John E. Gipson; his mother, Alivinna Baker Gipson; his father, Oscar Gipson; and four brothers, Carroll, Ray, Faye and Preston Gipson.
He is survived by his daughters, Becky Gipson of the home and Kay Gipson Johnson and Denny Johnson of St. Louis; two sons, Ron and Rita Holland Gipson of Camden, Tenn., and Johnny and Joy Dillin Gipson of Van Buren, Mo.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Roller-Farmers Union Chapel with John Gipson and Larry Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Nephews will serve as honorary bearers.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Estella Pruitt
JONESBORO — Estella Pruitt, 90, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Feb. 24, at St. Bernards Medical Center.
Estella had lived 23 years in this community. She was a faithful member of Millers Temple Church of God in Christ who loved the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.Q. Pruitt, five sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include one sister, Louella Precciely of Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Dennis (Willie) Smothers of Jonesboro; several nephews, nieces and cousins; and many friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Millers Temple with the Rev. Glen Conley presiding. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery
under direction of Woodard Funeral Service of Jonesboro.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
