Anthony J. Hum

Anthony John Hum, 51, of Cabot died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006.

He was born March 26, 1955, in Little Rock to the late William C. and Nelda Marie Jones Hum.

He is survived by his son John Blake Hum and his fiance Athena Denney both of Cabot; brother Billy Hum and wife Cindy; and sister Tina Rose and husband Kenny.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 23, at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in Sumner Cemetery.

Arrangements were by North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Mary Milchell

Mary Jo Milchell, 75, of Cabot died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Hebron Baptist Church in Little Rock.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joe Bernard Vermillion, Sr., and Mary Lee Mann Vermillion; son Michael Allan Mitchell;, infant sons Herbert and Sarah Mitchell; and mother-in- law and father-in-law.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Herbert E. Mitchell; son Steven Mitchell and wife Gina; daughters Jo Wood and husband Charles, and Cheryl Head, all of Jacksonville, and Gina Hinkson and husband John of Cabot; brother Joe Vermilion and wife Mary Grace; sister Ruth Durbin and husband John all of Illinois, ten grandchildren; and nine great-grand children.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel in North Little Rock. Interment was at Sumner Cemetery.

Harry Thompson

Harry L. Thompson, 71, of Lonoke died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006. He was a retired electrician and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents William J. and Blanche Thompson; and brother Billy Thompson.

He is survived by his wife Ramona; daughter Donna; two grandchildren; brother Jerry Thompson; and sister Sharon Clark.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 25, at Westbrook Funeral Home, with burial in Hester Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.

Gary Hilburn

Gary Hilburn, 59 of Camden, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006 in Little Rock. He was born August 25, 1947 in Pelam, Ga. to the late Willis and Margaret McDowell Hilburn. He served in the U. S. Army, was a truck driver and loved the deer woods.

Survivors include his children; Shawn Hilburn of Cabot, Phillip Hilburn of Jacksonville, and Jesse Black of St. Petersburg, Fla., brother, James Hilburn of Cedar Springs, Ga., sister, Ginger Schultz of Ocola, FL, six grandchildren and three nieces and nephews.

Graveside service is 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, North Little Rock, AR. Visitation is 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home 982-2136.

Lillian Shoemake

Lillian Estelle Shoemake, 91, of Osceola died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006.

She was a retired businesswoman, the oldest active member of the Osceola First Baptist Church, and co-founder of Osceola Waste Materials.

She was preceded in death by her parents Samuel L. and Alice Fortner Eatmon; husband T.T. Shoemake; son Lyman Shoemake; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; five brothers; two sisters; and stepdaughter Imogene Shoemake.
Survivors include her sons Donald Wade of Marion, Speedy of Osceola, Gary Lee of Maumelle and Charles Buster Shoemake of Coldwater, Miss.; daughters Alice Burris of Bernie, Mo., Thyra Gail Runion and Fan Shoemake Nabors both of Memphis; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and stepson Theron L. Shoemake of Carlisle.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Osceola First Baptist Church. A private burial was held at Mississippi County Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the Osceola First Baptist Church or the charity of choice.

Rebecca O. Clark

Rebecca O. Clark, 87, of North Little Rock, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006. She was the past President of North Little Rock’s Greenkeepers Garden Club, member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, the North Little Rock City Beautiful Commission and owner of Back Stage for 28 Years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Myrtie Woods; and husband of 39 years, James C. (Jimmie ) Clark.

She is survived by her children Linda D. Sosebee, James C. Clark, Jr., of Little Rock, Teresa A. Clark of North Little Rock, and Lisa Winkleman and husband Gary of Copper Canyon, Texas; six grandchildren Steve Sosebee of Lonoke and five others; and two great-grandchildren.

A private family service was held Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock.

The family requests memorials be made to Central Arkansas Rescue Effort for Animals, Inc., P.O. Box 7604, Little Rock, Ark. 72117.

Barbara Stanley

Barbara Ann House Stanley, 75, of North Little Rock died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006.

She grew up in Carlisle, where she graduated from Carlisle High School in 1948. She was an active member of Lakewood United Methodist Church for 44 years and active in community service.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Joe P. Stanley; children Patti Luppen and husband Bill, Steve Stanley and wife Melody, Robert Stanley and wife Laura Christine, Laura Fortner and husband Neal, and Cindy Higgins and husband Pete; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, which is located at the corner of Topf Road and Fairway Avenue. Interment will follow at the Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Lakewood United Methodist Church, 1922 Topf Road, North Little Rock, Ark. 72116 and Arkansas Hospice Foundation, 5600 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72204.

Funeral Arrangements are by Westbrook Funeral Home of Hazen.

Donald H. Coristo

Donald Harlow Coristo, 72, of Maumelle died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006. He was a retired Warrant Officer with the Arkansas National Guard and a member of Community Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ira Joseph Coristo and sister, Katherine Sperry.
He is survived by his wife Allene Coristo and wife Ashley of Maumelle; sons Dee Coristo and wife Jan of Cabot and Aaron J. Coristo, of Maumelle; sister, Marie Nicholason, of Conway.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 22, at Arkansas State Veteran Cemetery.
Arrangements were by the North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Connie Eubanks

Connie Eubanks, 41, of North Little Rock died on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Georgia Ives, and sister Gladys.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Sue Ives of North Little Rock; sister Barbara Campbell of Ward; brothers David Ives, Bobby Ives and wife Wendy Wright, and Gary Wright, all of North Little Rock; and grandson Matthew Ives of North Little Rock.

The family will receive visitors from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

There will be a private funeral service and interment.

Arrangements were by Thomas Funeral Service.

Robert E. Rice

Robert Eugene Rice, 80, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at home after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Lonoke County to the late Louis Ellsworth and Shellie Hicks Rice.

A 1942 graduate of Lonoke High School, he then went on to the University of Arkansas where he graduated in 1948. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority after 34 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class and served as past chairman of the Administrative Board. He was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program, a member of the Shepherd Center, and a past president of the TVA Retirees Assocation. He had also been a member of the Tupelo Symphony Board.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Tupelo Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Ray and Rev. John Sudduth officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Elizabeth Moss (Liz) Rice of Tupelo, Miss.; four children, Lynn Rice Audenaert and husband, William N. Audenaert of Madison, Ala., Robert E. (Rob) Rice, Jr., and wife, Linda Wells Rice, of Tupelo, William L. (Bill) Rice and wife, Ann Wofford Rice of Tupelo, Lee Rice Smith and husband, Albert E. Smith, Jr., of Summerville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, Neal Audenaert and wife, Michelle, of College Station, Tex., Brian Audenaert of Madison, Ala., Drew Rice and wife, Elizabeth, of Jackson, Miss., Beth Ann and Lydia Rice of Tupelo, David, Marion, and Emma Rice of Tupelo, Bert, Sarah, and Mollie Smith of Summerville, S.C.; a sister, Betty Magie, of Cabot; and a brother, Bill Rice and wife, Lois, of Lonoke. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 2800 W. Main St. Tupelo, MS 38801; The Shepherd Center, P.O. Box 1725, Tupelo, MS 38802; and Tupelo Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 474, Tupelo, MS 38802

Victor L. Gracie

Victor L. Gracie, 70, of White Hall died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006.

Survivors include Barry Gracie and Randall Gracie both of White Hall; five grandchildren; sisters Betty Rodgers of Woodlawn and Maggie Leopard of Rison.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Hardin Cemetery.
