Trunda Jones

Trunda Jones, 36, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006.

Survivors include his parents R.S. and Odessa Jones; grandfather LG Jones all of Lonoke; sisters Orlanda DeSaussure of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Joyce Jones of Lonoke.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 5, at St Paul Baptist Church in Lonoke.

Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

Mary F. Johnson

Mary Francis Johnson, 62, of Cabot died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006. She was a member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church of Beebe and co-owner of Johnson’s Fiberglass Net Hoops it Cabot.

She is preceded in death by her parents Troy and Veneda Bates Bailey, and two daughters, Sharon and Canon Johnson.

Survivors include her husband H.W. “Jr.” Johnson; two sons Gary and David Johnson both of Cabot; daughters Suzanne Griffith and husband Bobby of Des Arc; Betty Foster and husband Philip of Houma, La.; Priscilla Dunlap and husband Jack of Searcy; sisters Pat Byrd of McClain, Miss.; Bunell Henry of Cabot; stepfather William “Bill” Holtrop of Austin; six step-brothers Benny Bailey of El Dorado; Steve Bailey of Prattsville; Larry Bailey of Arkadelphia; Terry Bailey of Glen Rose, Texas; Ricky Bailey of Camden; step-sisters Tina Cullins of Sheridan; Carolyn Bailey of Louisiana; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Beebe.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, Lighthouse Pentecostal Church with Dr. John Scheel officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain Springs Cemetery in Cabot.

Arrangements were handled by Searcy-McEuen Funeral Home in Searcy.

Earl M. Cherry

Earl Melton Cherry, 98, of North Little Rock died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006.

He played in the first football game in Cabot and later attended college in Conway. He served with the Air Force during WWII, a member of the Lions Club and the Cabot VFW. He was the Arkansas State Athletic Commissioner for several years and was instrumental in establishing the Arlene E. Cherry Library in Cabot.

He is survived by his wife of over 20 years Marcelle; and sons Ronnie Haynie and wife Cindy of North Little Rock, David Haynie and wife Cindy of Jacksonville, and Jimmy Haynie and wife Ann, of Kansas City, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock, 835-3515, with Bro. Paul Sanders officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.

William Cooper

William Timothy Cooper, 49, of Cabot passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006. He was born Aug. 3, 1957 to the late Marvin and Billie May Cooper.

William is survived by two sons, Tim Cooper Jr. and wife Ryann, Joseph Cooper; two sisters, Marva Verkler and Debbie Cooper, and one granddaughter.

Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 5 at Cabot Funeral Home. Services were held 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Cabot Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Cabot Funeral Home 843-5816.

Rolly Bacus, Jr.

Rolly Milton Bacus, Jr., 51, of Carlisle, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006.

Survivors include his wife Jo Bacus; son Rolly Milton Bacus III; daughter Carrie Brocchus; sisters Phyllis and Sue; and five grandchildren.

Memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 6, at Carlisle Church of Christ.

Arrangements were by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

Dennis Smith, Sr.

Dennis Dean Smith, Sr., 65, of Cabot died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006. He was a Senior Master Sergeant, (E-8), U.S. Air Force retired. He served in the Little Rock Police Dept., Jacksonville Fire Dept., and retired from the Little Rock Fire Dept. He was a member of the Cabot Pilgrim Nazarene Church.

He is survived by his wife Linda; sons Mark and wife Marie of Beebe, Dennis, Jr., and wife Tammy of Butlerville, Duane Daugherty and wife Sandra of Sherwood; daughter Kimberly and husband Rev. Don Egbert, Jr., of Marietta, Ohio; sisters Freeda Pierce and Eldora Martin and husband Earl of Jacksonville; brothers Rev. Jerrell Smith and wife Jolene of Hackett and Eugene Smith and wife Nelva of Sherwood; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, at North Little Rock Funeral Home. Entombment was at Rest Hills Mausoleum.

Betty Ackerman

Betty Ackerman, 75, of Austin entered heaven on Oct. 4, 2006. Born on March 11, 1931 in Appleton, N.Y., Betty was the beloved wife of William “Bill” Ackerman of Austin for 57 years.

She is survived by her husband; her six children, Linda Sanmarco and husband Loretto of Lockport, N.Y., Garry Ackerman of Las Vegas, Nev., Susan Carter and husband David of North Little Rock, Cynthia Delahunt and husband Gene of Cabot, Gregory Ackerman and wife Cindy of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Deborah Monteau and husband James of Antwerp, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren; 11 and a half great-grandchildren; a childhood best friend, Noreen Kenyon of Summerfield, Fla.; and several friends and pen-pals spread around the world. She was an active member of the Golden Agers at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot.

Betty was a woman of great patience, gentleness and forgiveness. Her first concern, even in her final illness, was the well-being of her loved ones. A voracious reader, Betty often shared her completed books with friends and family. Another of her passions was her correspondance with other women in the U.S. and around the world. After her husband’s retirement, Betty and Bill moved to Florida and remained there for the next 25 years. During that time, Betty saw the fulfillment of her lifelong wish to visit the Hawaiian islands. She also went on several cruises and visited England and Guam when her children were stationed there for military duty. In July 2005, Betty and Bill moved to Austin to be closer to family, and her family is thankful beyond words for that final year to spend time with their mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice, the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and the American Diabetes. Association.

Lucy Johnson

Lucy Wright Johnson passed away on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006. Born in Gainesville, Georgia she was the daughter of William T. and Daisy Wright. From the age of eight she lived in Greenville, SC. Married in 1932 to Boyd L. Johnson, she then moved to Raleigh, NC. She loved to travel in her Volkswagon Beatle and was affectionately called “The Roadrunner” by her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters Willine Wright, Mary Wright, Montine Crowe, Dollie Pittman, and Margaret Dickerson; two brothers, Jack Wright and Ted Wright; and one grandson, Lawrence Self.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia and husband Edwin Self of Cabot; two grandsons, Donald Self of Little Rock, AR, David Self and wife Peggy of Cabot; one granddaughter, Sally Self of Cabot; five great granddaughters, Jessica Tucker of Dallas, Texas, Emily Tucker of Battleground, Washington, Mallory Self, Jena Self, Jera Self of Cabot; and one great grandson, Taylor Self of Cabot.

A Memorial Service was held Monday at Faith Baptist Church on Bill Foster Highway 321 in Cabot. A Graveside service will be in Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home 843-5816.

Mark M. Kaiser

Ret. SFC, Mark Melvin Kaiser, 49, of Ward, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 in Little Rock. He was born Aug. 17, 1957 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Lois Kaiser and the late Melvin Kaiser. Mark retired from the United States Army after serving 28 years.

He is also preceded in death by one daughter Danaca Kaiser on Oct. 21, 2004.

Survivors include his loving wife Corinne Frans Kaiser of the home; one daughter Marissa Kaiser of the home; three sons, Adam & Andrea Wahlgren of North Carolina, Ian Wahlgren of Minnesota and Nathan Wahlgren of Connecticut; his mother Lois Kaiser of Cabot; three brothers, Thomas & Anne Kaiser, James Kaiser and Joseph Kaiser all of Minnesota; three sisters, Suzanne & Robert Amaro of Nevada, Jeana Kaiser and Tanya Kaiser of Minnesota; along with many other family and friends.

Visitation was on Monday, Oct. 16 at the funeral home. Funeral Services were Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Cabot United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Lancaster officiating. Interment with full military honors followed at Old Austin Cemetery in Ward. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Marissa Kaiser College Scholarship Fund at Bank of America 101 Gregory Place Jacksonville, AR 72076. Arrangements by Thomas Funeral Service 713 So. 2nd St. Cabot 941-7888.

Melanie Cox

Melanie Dawn Cox, 20, of Cabot passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006 in Searcy. She was born July 20, 1986 in Blytheville. Melanie was a member of Southside Church of Christ in Cabot. She received a liver transplant in 2002. She was a 2004 graduate from Cabot High School, where she participated in band and junior high basketball.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Janiece Smithson and grandfather, Douglas Fairley; great-grandparents, Martha Abbott, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fairley, and Mr. and Mrs. Doyle V. Bradsher.

Melanie is survived by her mother, Maleah Smithson of Cabot; stepfather, Michael Smithson of Austin; and two sisters, Malorie and Melissa Smithson, both of the home; grandparents, Ron and Billie Finley of Searcy, J.W. Smithson of Trumann, and Rosa Cox of Tennessee; great grandparent, Ira Abbott of Trumann; aunts and uncles, Trey and Paige Talley, Shane Fairley, Debbie Smithson and Dana Ferguson.

The family received friends on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Cabot Funeral Home. The service was Friday, Oct. 13 at Southside Church of Christ with Bruce Tucker officiating. Interment followed at Mississippi County Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Pallbearers were Mike Fortson, Hal Reper, Jonathan Walthall, Josh Henson, Matt Straschinskie, John Minard, Jonathan Taylor, Lindsey Fairley, Shane Fairley, Derrick Smithson, Doyle Bradsher, David Bufford, and Trey Talley.

Memorials may be made to the Cabot Schools band program and to any organ recipient association. The family would like to encourage others to have an awareness of the importance of organ donation.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.

Martha Townsend

Funeral services for Martha Jannette Townsend, 69, of Cabot were held Friday, Oct. 13, at Roller-Citizens. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park in West Helena.

Survivors include her husband, four sons, three brothers, two sisters, 15 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services were directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena.
