Iris Williams
Iris Williams passed away Aug. 1. Born June 19, 1944, she had been a resident of the Pass Area for 19 years.
Williams is survived by her husband, Mike Williams of Cabazon; children, Rena Moreno of Beaumont, Tammy Stocum of Sterling Height, MI; Robert Stocum of Sterling Heights, MI; Frank Stocum of Warren, MI; and Steven Stocum of Sterling Heights, MI; daughter-in-laws, Jennifer Stocum and Elizabeth Stocum and son-in-law, Art Moreno, grandhildren, Jennifer, Nichole, Edith, Zachary, Savannah, Alex, Frank, Jessie and Melissa and eight great-grandchildren, Alexis, Damian, Hailey, Nicholas, Anthony, Ryan, Matthew and Rena.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Weaver Mortuary of Beaumont.

Robert Michiele Cassetta
Robert Cassetta of Cherry Valley passed away on July 22 at the age of 68.
Cassetta was born in Bloomington,  Calif. on Nov. 21, 1938 to Michiele and Caterina Cassetta with two older brothers Secundo and Johnnie.
He graduated from Colton Union High School and served in the U.S. Army. He owned his own Volkswagon parts and engine building business serving his customers with honesty and respect. He enjoyed off-road racing and going camping with his family and friends. Everyone who knew him admired and respected him, for he was a generous man, say his family.
Cassetta is survived by his wife Rose whom he loved with all his heart, his daughters Denise and Angelina, son Antonio and his five grandchildren.

Martha Christine Banister
Dec. 14, 1912 - Dec. 15, 2002
Christine was born December 14, 1912, to John W. and Florence Kennedy, in Morrilton, Arkansas. After finishing school in Morrilton, she moved to Conway, Arkansas, where she met Guy Edward Banister. They were married on December 25, 1931. The couple moved to Wasco, California, in 1936, and then to Bakersfield in 1939.
Christine was a very active member of the First Church of the Nazarene since 1939. She taught Sunday School and did Missionary Box work for many years. She was devoted to her Lord, the Church and her family, all of which she loved dearly. She was always taking care of people.
She is survived by her sister, Carrie Lee Wiseman and her husband, Cal, of Bakersfield, CA, sister, Annette Thomson, also of Bakersfield; sister, Margaret Barlow and her husband, James, of Shingle Springs, CA; brother, Chester R. Kennedy and his wife, Modena of Seal Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Mildred Maddox of Little Rock, AR, and many nieces and nephews. Christine was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Guy Edward Banister, in January 1977.
Christine did many things in the Nazarene Church to bring joy into the lives of others. Today we believe that she is with her Lord Jesus Christ. A celebration of the life of Martha Christine Banister will take place on Saturday, December 21, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Hughes Lane, Bakersfield, CA. Pastor Theodore Underwood will officiate at the service with Interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Bucky and the staff of Samaritan Senior Care for their loving care during the past ten months.

Shirley Williams-Davis
Services: Friday, Dec. 20, 12 p.m.
Shirley Williams-Davis, 59, who died December 10, 2002, at her home in Bakersfield, California, is survived by her two daughters, Edwina Allen and Judy Lofton; sister, Marilyn Bingham; brothers, James Timmos, Leo Timmos, Odis Brown, all of Bakers-field, California, and brother, Frank Stewart of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and friends.
Viewing and Visitation will begin December 19, 2002, at 12:00 p.m., with an hour of meditation scheduled from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Ruckers Mortuary, 301 Baker St., Bakersfield, California.
Funeral services will be held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1300 E. Brundage Lane, Bakersfield, CA, on December 20, 2002, at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Kevin Edwards of Rising Star Baptist Church officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Union Cemetery.

Fred L. Lizalde
1939 - 2002
Coach, teacher, mentor, brother, father, and husband, Fred Lizalde passed away early Wednesday morning. Fred Lizalde was well known and beloved throughout the community. He spent over 25 years coaching and teaching at Garces Memorial High School. The last years were passed as the manager of the St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores in Kern County. Besides being a good friend, many remember his kindness, sense of humor, and generosity.
He leaves behind his wife, Vivian, of 40 years; son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Sarah Lizalde; daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Brian King; grandson, Jackson; brothers and sister, Herb, Lenny, John, and Rosalie.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Freds memory to St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Bakersfield, Hoffmann Hospice, or Garces Memorial High School.
Rosary will begin at 12 noon, Friday, December 20, with Mass to follow at San Clemente Mission. Graveside services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service.

Juanita Azparren
Services: Fri. Dec. 20, 10 a.m.
Juanita Mom went to be with our Heavenly Father and Castor, her beloved husband of 57 years, Dec. 17, following a brief but courageous bout with complications from cancer. She was born July 12, 1924, in Bakersfield, where she would become a lifelong resident.
Juanita will be remembered for her warm smile, big hugs, butterfly kisses and her knowing wink. Mom had the ability to touch the hearts of people she met in a very special way where they knew she really cared about them. When you passed through the doors of her home, you were always met with a warm welcome. Juanita loved to meet people in stores or anywhere and begin a conversation. She also loved to work in her garden and was especially proud of her springtime iris and summer gladiolas. A ride to the mountains or over to the coast was always a welcome adventure.
She is survived by her two children, Maggie Azparren-Ballweg and husband Andy of Bakersfield and Frank Azparren and his wife Jane of Venezuela and their five children, Jerud Azparren and his wife Theresa of Fresno, Jeremy Azparren of Fresno, Lori Nelson and her husband Paul of Connecticut, Jason Ross and his wife Yolanda of Bakersfield and Michael Ross of Bakersfield. Other survivors include her six precious great grandchildren, her sister Lucy Machado and husband John, her cousin Felix Lesaca and wife Maria, her sister-in-law Fanny Azparren, her many nieces and nephews and the numerous friends she made throughout her life.
Pallbearers are Jerud Azparren, Jeremy Azparren, Jason Ross, Michael Ross, Felix Lesaca Jr. and Javier Lesaca.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 1515 Baker St., with graveside services following at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary Thursday, Dec. 19, from noon to 6 p.m.
Our mom was a precious jewel on this Earth and is now the brightest diamond in the heavens. Her family will miss her greatly.
The family will be forever grateful to the dedicated and caring doctors and nurses at Memorial and San Joaquin hospitals.

Lillian Mary Lencioni Petrini
Services: Thurs., Dec. 19, 10 a.m.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, and Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 19, both at San Clemente Mission, for Lillian Mary Petrini, 88, who passed away December 15, 2002, in Bakersfield. Her nephew, Msgr. Ralph Belluomini, will officiate with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mrs. Petrini was born August 17, 1914, in Bakersfield, CA. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the most important part of her life. She was a remarkable woman who was most content at huge family gatherings. She was a master homemaker, who excelled in cooking, knitting and crocheting. She received the most joy in taking care of her family, when we were the ones who were truly blessed by the gift of her love.
She was active for many years in the Italian Catholic Federation, Branch #33.
Survivors include her sons, Louie Petrini and his wife, Carol, Frank Petrini and his wife, Elaine; grandchildren, Teresa Petrini Hauser, Gregory Petrini and his wife, Elizabeth, Michael Petrini and his wife, Deborah, Joseph Petrini and his wife, Shannon; seven great-grandchildren, Suzanne Hauser, Darren Hauser, Ryan Hauser, Marco Petrini, Maci Petrini, Dominic Petrini and Dante Petrini; brothers and sisters, Ernest Lencioni, John Lencioni, Rita Bertolucci and Mary Pediflous; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlo John Petrini and daughter, Julie Petrini Turner.
Pallbearers will be Gregory Petrini, Michael Petrini, Ryan Hauser, Chris Bertolucci, Joseph Lencioni and Jim Lencioni. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Lencioni, Ernest Lencioni, Frank Pediflous, Robert Lencioni, Richard Lencioni, Gabriel Belluomini and Michael Belluomini.
A special heartfelt thanks to Minnie Munoz for her loving care and to Nonnas hairdresser, Janie Alvaros, for her many dedicated years.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Catholic Social Service, 310 Baker St., Bakersfield, CA, or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be Friday, December 20, between 2 & 5 p.m., at Bakersfield Family Chapel of the Flowers, 701 34th St. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 21, at 10 a.m., at Sunshine Full Gospel Church, 515 Roberts Lane with interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
Elma was a very loyal wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed church activities and her handwork.
She is survived by her husband, Price; daughters, Doris Ross and husband, Evan, Zina Holub and husband, Rudy, Judy Turner and Bob, Kathy Wofford and Tom; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren.
We love you, Grandma.
Reception to follow immediately following the funeral service at Sunshine Church Hall.
