Evelyn Ellen Platter

(Jan. 30, 1922 - Feb. 11, 1999)

Evelyn Ellen Platter, 77, died at a local hospital Thursday after a short illness.

The native of Texarkana, Ark., was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Donald Long) Halsey of American Canyon; a son, Robert (Marilyn) Halsey of  Washington, D.C., and Stephen (Gabrielle) Halsey of Columbia, Mo.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David G. Platter, in 1998.

Private family services were held. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Colonial Chapels made arrangements.

Frank Ella Lee

(May 7, 1925 - Feb. 9, 1999)

Frank Ella Lee, 73, died Tuesday at Sutter Solano Medical Center following a brief illness.

The native of Glidden, Tex., is survived by daughters Betty Lee of  Texas and Joyce Lee of San Francisco; sons Edward Lijon of Vallejo and Hubert Lee, Jr. of  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Cooley and Riolo Mortuary in Vallejo with the Rev. N. Reason officiating. Burial will be private.

Robert Joseph Hughes, Sr.

(Feb. 25, 1921 - Feb. 11, 1999)

Robert Joseph Hughes, Sr., 77, died Thursday at a local hospital.

The native of Chicago was retired from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel and was a retired Merchant Marine. He worked at the California Maritime Academy as business manager/professor of engineering after retirement. He was a member of the TRDA Club, KC's Club, St. Andrews Society, and the Queens Military Club of San Francisco.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ford Hughes; daughters Constance (William) Hughes-Itter of Schaumberg, Ill., Linda Eillen (James) Juarez of Vallejo, Ellen Therese (Russell) Brodeur of Florence Ariz.; sons Robert Joseph (Sheri) Hughes, Jr. of Tulsa, OK., James Alfred (Cathy) Hughes of Elk Grove Village, Ill., and Timothy Francis (Connie) Hughes of Hillard, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren.

Services will be held at a later date at St. Catherine's Church in Vallejo. Contributions may be made to the Shriners of St. Jude in Oakland.

Neptune Society of Northern California handled arrangements.

Dennis D. Campbell

(May 16, 1973 - Feb. 11, 1999)

Dennis D. Campbell, 25, died suddenly while working in Macon, Ga.

The native of Chico had been a Benicia resident since 1986. He graduated from Benicia High School in 1991 and had been working as a welder's helper for the past eight years at various oil refineries throughout the United States.

Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Susan Campbell of Benicia; a sister, April Campbell of Benicia; a brother, Bucky Campbell of Benicia; maternal grandparents Richard and Marge Snyder of Concord and paternal grandmother Emily Campbell of Reno.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1125 Southampton Road, Benicia. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery, Vallejo. Friends may call from at Passalacqua Funeral Chapel from 12-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Ernest Bohannon

(March 2, 1919 - Feb. 17, 1998)

Ernest Bohannon, 79, died Wednesday at home following a long illness.

A native of Vicksburg, Miss., Mr. Bohannon was a resident of Vallejo. He was employed for many years as a sanitary engineer and retired in 1982.

Mr. Bohannon was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Vallejo, and he enjoyed fishing and baseball.

He is survived by a son, Leonard of Vallejo; a sister, Natalie Warner of Gary, Ind.; two brothers, Andrew and Samuel, both of Vicksburg, Miss.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

A quiet hour will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Cooley & Riolo Mortuary.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. F. Irving officiating. Burial follows in Skyview Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Jimmie Paul

(July 4, 1938 - Sept. 22, 1999)

VACAVILLE - Jimmie "JP" Paul, 61, died Wednesday while camping at Lake Almanor.

Mr. Paul was born in Des Moines, Iowa and resided in Vacaville and in Solano County for 38 years. He worked for 34 years as a welder and welding instructor at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 134 of Vacaville, and he enjoyed fishing, camping and tinkering and welding machinery.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Lois of Vacaville; a daughter, Bernie (Rob) Gustavsen of Vacaville; a son, Jamie (Laurie) of Amarillo,  Texas; a stepdaughter, Patti (Jay) Wiley of Vacaville; a stepson, William Mason of Vacaville; a sister, Nita Davis of Des Moines, Iowa; a brother, Jerry of Des Moines, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Billy and Michael Gustavsen of Vacaville, James and Kayla of Amarillo  Texas, Brianna Green and Sarah Wiley of Vacaville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the McCune Garden Chapel, Vacaville, with the Masonic Lodge No. 134 officiating. Burial will be in the Vacaville Elmira Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 105 Astrid Drive, Pleasant Hill 94523 or to the Firecrackers Volunteers Fire Department in care of Donna Scott, 2567 Almanor Drive West, Canyon Dam 95923.

Earl Banford

(March 29, 1922 - Feb. 16, 1999)

Earl Wallace Banford, 76, died Tuesday at home following a long illness.

A native of Oakland, Mr. Banford worked for the Alameda County Sheriff's Department for 30 years, and retired in 1977 as a sergeant. He moved to Lake Havasu, Ariz. after his retirement and lived there for 21 years, then moved to Benicia where he spent the last four months.

He was a lifelong student of history and philosophy, an avid fisherman, a successful investor, and especially enjoyed fine restaurant dining.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne, and his second wife, Shirley.

Survivors include a daughter, Stacy (Michael) Hickling of Gosshen, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Cheryl (Fred) Wickes of Lodi; three sons, Paul (Linda) of Vallejo, Howard (Anne) of Richmond, and Bruce (Cheryl) of Tehachapi; three stepsons, Mark (Celia) Bratton of Riverside, James Bratton of Manteca, and Ray (Debbie) Bratton of Temecula; and numerous grandchildren.

Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia. Inurnment is private.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Salvation Army, 630 Tuolumne St., Vallejo 94590.
