June Stone

(Oct. 31, 1924 - Aug. 4, 2001)

June Eileen Stone, 76, died Saturday in Napa following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Stone was born in Vallejo to Dewey and Lorena (Levaggi) Thurber and was a long-time resident of the Napa Valley. She was a 1942 graduate of Vallejo High School, and was married in Reno in 1950 to Paul Stone of the Army. Mrs. Stone lived in Japan, Missouri, Georgia, New York,  Pennsylvania,  Texas, and Germany, before returning to retire in California.

She was preceded in death by husband, Paul in 1974.

Survivors include children, Janice Cothran of Salida, James of American Canyon, Barbara Donohoe of American Canyon, and Deborah of Napa; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Bob and Larry Thurber, both of Vallejo.

Private committal in Tulocay Cemetery, Napa. Arrangements by Struble Family Funeral Services, Vallejo.

Roberta Sanderson

Oct. 5, 1924 -- May 14, 2002

Roberta Sanderson, 77, died Tuesday at North Bay Medical Center-Fairfield, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Sanderson was born in San Luis Obispo and was a Vallejo resident.

She worked as a cook for Solano County seven years retiring in 1993. She was an elder of the Salian Nation, and she enjoyed cooking and crocheting.

Survivors include her daughters, Vicky Jersey of Las Vegas; Anita and Deborah Lopez of Fairfield; son, Robert Sims of Lucerne Valley; sister, Margaret Turnouar of Novato; brother, Ray "Jay" Garcia of Camp Verde, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial was held May 17 at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, Vallejo. Service was be officiated by the Rev. Rick Powers. Private inurnment.

Donald Bourdon

Sept. 28,1909 -- Sept. 20, 2002

Donald W. Bourdon, 92, a lifelong musician and retired language and music teacher, died Sept. 20 at his home in Vallejo.

Born in Oakland to Laura Case and Charles Bourdon, he graduated from high school in Roseville; attended Sacramento Jr. College; and graduated with a bachelor's degree in German from University of California at Berkeley. In 1968, he earned his masters degree in French from also from Cal.

He was head of the language department at Armijo High School in Fairfield before retiring in 1972. Mr. Bourdon taught in Vallejo at various schools including Vallejo and Hogan High, and Solano Jr. High. After 35 years of teaching, he worked on his avocation as a piano tuner and earned his certificate in the Piano Technicians Guild.

After teaching in Mt. View and Lee Vining, he moved to Vallejo in 1940 where he began teaching choral music, German, French, English, and Social Studies. He established the first language lab at Solano Jr. High School. In 1947, Mr. Bourdon moved to England for a year where he was a Fullbright exchange teacher. He met the Queen mother of Elizabeth II.

Mr. Bourdon served as president of the Council of Civic Unity which paved the way for Grace Logan Patterson to be hired as the first African American teacher in Vallejo in 1949.

Mr. Bourdon and his wife traveled to Haiti making 14 trips to work as volunteers at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Limbe. During one trip, he taught education to prospective teachers; he became fluent in Haitian, Creole and French.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo for a few years, after spending many years at First Baptist Church in Vallejo and Napa. He was active in choral music in Vallejo and was a lifetime member of the Vallejo Choral Society, he also sang with the Napa Choral Society after moving there. He was a tenor who sang solo's and conducted the choir at First Christian Church. He joined Oddfellows a few years ago.

He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Louise in 1991; and his older brother, Evan.

Survivors include his daughters, Ruth (Jim) Paulson of St. Helens, Ore.; Judith (Joe) Andrews of Palo Alto; Donna (Bob) Lawson of Vallejo; Anita LaRae of Manchester, Wash.; brothers, John Peterson of Norco; Albert of Reno; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m., Sept. 28 at First Presbyterian Church in Vallejo. Friends may call Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home in Vallejo from 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 27, and 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 27.

Contributions may be made to the Hatian-American Christian Education Foundation (HACEF); HBS Foundation (Good Samaritan Hospital); Vallejo Symphony Association; or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Gerald Clark

Jan. 17, 1956 -- Nov. 27, 2002

Gerald "Apple" Clark, 46, died Nov. 27 at Sutter Solano Medical Center-Vallejo after a long illness.

Born in Detroit, Mich., he was a resident of Vallejo.

Mr. Clark worked at Larsen and Juhl Manufacturer for three years.

He was an Air Force veteran.

Mr. Clark enjoyed fishing and music.

Surivivors include his daughters, Jerne and Ariel of Ohio; mother, Mary Moultrie of Vallejo; sisters, Christine Williams and Valerie Parker, both of Vallejo and brother, Vernon Green of Vallejo.

Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to noon, Nov. 30 followed by funeral services at noon at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home in Vallejo. Private sea scattering.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tabernacle of David Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 Lincoln Road East, Vallejo,  Calif. 94591.

Johnnie Tracy

March 18, 1933 -- May 22, 2003

Johnnie Bee Tracy, 70, a Vallejo resident for 10 years, died May 22 at a local hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Osceola, Ark.

Mr. Tracy worked as a skycap for Southwest Airlines for 20 years. He was also U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War.

He was a member of General Assembly Church.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene of Vallejo; brother, John Tracy of Los Angeles; a son and daughters; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. May 30 at Colonial Chapels, Vallejo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. May 31 at General Assembly Church in Vallejo, with the Rev. Lacy Hawkins officiating. A private burial will follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond.
