Valdimar Napoleon Skoglund

An open house will be held for friends to remember the late Valdimar Napoleon Skoglund, 90, of Vacaville at his home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Born Nov. 17, 1906, in Minnesota, Mr. Skoglund died Aug. 9, 1997, at his home in Vacaville.

Mr. Skoglund farmed most of his life in North Dakota and retired in California 15 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Lenora; son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Suzie of Yuma, Ariz.; daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Darrel Brateng of Vacaville; brother, Adolph of Duluth, Minn.; sister, Irene Roseau of Minnesota; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Mr. Skogland's home is at 124 Bryce Way in Vacaville.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in North Dakota.

Joseph Paul Sos

A memorial service for Joseph Paul Sos, 75, of Dixon will be at 10:30 a.m. today in the Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon.

The Rev. Maurice O'Brien of St. Peter's Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment will be private.

Born Sept. 12, 1921, in Cle Elum, Wash., Mr. Sos died Aug. 8, 1997, in Davis after a long illness.

He lived in the Dixon area for 16 years.

Mr. Sos was a battery commander in the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after serving 20 years.

He was a member of the Dixon Senior Citizens Center.

Mr. Sos, who studied forestry at the University of  Washington, enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of Dixon; sons, Michael of Oxnard, Paul of France and Jean Louis of San Diego; daughter, Josette of Dixon; brother, Larry of Big Pine; sisters, Mary Crim of Oceanside and Kate Prokopovich, Helen Takarsick and Julia Mocco, all of  Washington; and grandchildren, Alexandra and Messica, both of France.

Memorial contributions may be made to Upper Solano Association for Retarded Citizens, 275 N. First St., Dixon, 95620.

Beverly Jean Wood Zakerski and Stephen Zakerski Jr.

A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Beverly Jean Wood Zakerski, 70, and Stephen Zakerski Jr., 71, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville.

Family and friends will preside. Casual attire is requested. Burial will be private.

Mr. Zakerski was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and died Aug. 6, 1997, in Fairfield.

Mrs. Zakerski was born May 28, 1927, in Stockton, and died Aug. 9, 1997, in Fairfield.

The couple lived in Vacaville for eight years.

Mr. Zakerski retired as a lieutenant with the Berkeley Fire Department after 28 years of service. He then worked as an aircraft mechanic. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mrs. Zakerski was a nurse for 45 years. She worked for Peralta Hospital in Oakland for 40 years and for NorthBay Medical Group for five years before retiring. She belonged to the California Nurses Association.

Both were pilots and loved flying. They were members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

The couple is survived by sons, Stanley of Sacramento, Stephen of Vacaville and Edward of Walnut Creek; and six grandchildren, Amanda and Stephen Kyle of Vacaville, Teri Jo and Tracy James of Walnut Creek, and Karly and Ryan of Sacramento.

Mrs. Zakerski is also survived by her sister, Geraldine Wood Joyner of Livonia, Miss.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Doris Nadine Callaghan

Funeral services for Doris Nadine Callaghan, 64, will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon.

Interment will be in Silveyville Cemetery immediately following the service.

Born Feb. 21, 1933, in Pioneer, La., Mrs. Callaghan died in Dixon on Aug. 8, 1997.

A Solano County resident for 43 years, Mrs. Callaghan worked as a manager for Fraser Foods. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Mrs. Callaghan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Cliff Watt of Dixon; sons, Patrick of Dixon and Michael of  Louisiana; brothers, Bobby Frith of  Louisiana, Cassie Frith of Arkansas, Mitchell Frith of Selma, Leon Frith of  Louisiana, and Billy Frith of  Louisiana.

Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. in Milton Carpenter Funeral Home.

Charlotte Lena Carlson

Funeral services for Charlotte Lena Carlson, 74, of Vacaville will be at 10 a.m. Friday in McCune Garden Chapel in Vacaville. The Rev. Vic Matson of Community United Methodist Church will officiate.

A visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel, and inurnment will be private.

Born Nov. 16, 1922, in Bovey, Minn., Mrs. Carlson died Aug. 10, 1997, in Aurora,  Colo. after a brief illness. She had lived in Vacaville for 56 years.

A homemaker, Mrs. Carlson was past senior regent and all other chairs of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 1967. She also held various offices in Eastern Star, was secretary-treasurer of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7244, was active in the Red Cross and worked on the election board.

She enjoyed playing bunco, was an active bowler and sold poppies for the Veterans of Foreign Wars annually.

She is survived by her husband, William of Vacaville; daughters, Karen Cover of  Texas, Margaret Kelly of Vallejo; son, William of Arizona; sister, Carol Walsh of Davis; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 844, Santa Rosa 95402.

Sally Jean Christian

A memorial service for Sally Jean Christian, 77, of Vallejo will be 7 p.m. Thursday, 1997 at 7 p.m. at the Skyview Funeral Chapel at 200 Rollingwood Drive in Vallejo.

Mrs. Christian died Aug. 10, 1997, in her home. She was born March 14, 1920, in Delaware, Ohio. She lived in Vallejo for 46 years.

She was a social services supervisor for the Solano County Welfare Department for 15 years and was involved with the Napa/Solano Women's Bowling Association.

Mrs. Christian is survived by four daughters, Patricia Christian and Penny Harman of Vallejo, Sallie Carnal of Austin,  Texas, and Connie Schilling of Vacaville; son, Edward of Vallejo; sister, Phyllis Rowser of Napa; brother Paul  White of San Diego; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Inurnment arrangements are being handled by the Skyview Funeral Chapel.

Michael Paul Hunter

Michael Paul Hunter, 20, formerly of Vacaville, died Aug. 11, 1997.

Born Nov. 8, 1976, Mr. Hunter moved to Carson City, Nev. several months ago. He excelled in sports, particularly football and wrestling, and was a good student, according to his family. He was working for a moving company at the time of his death.

He is survived by his father, Phillip of Dixon; stepsister, Kristy Muller of Vacaville; stepbrother Mark Muller of Truckee; and mother, Patricia Nores.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Mariano Jonson Lagrisola Sr.

A Catholic Prayer Service for Mariano Jonson Lagrisola Sr., 69, of Fairfield will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Our Lady Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Fairfield.

Internment will be in Suisun-Fairfield Cemetery following the Mass.

Born Dec. 17, 1927, in the Phillipine Islands, Mr. Lagrisola died Aug. 9, 1997, in Davis after a sudden illness.

Mr. Lagrisola worked as a county accountant in San Francisco for 23 years and lived in Martinez before moving to Fairfield, where he lived for 12 years. He was a member of the Senior Center of Vallejo and the American Diablo Valley Association of Contra Costa County.

He is survived by his wife, Zenaida of Fairfield; sons, Mariano Jr. of Oakland, Mark of Martinez and Robert Conrad Herndon and Rodney Joseph Herndon of Fairfield; daughters, Mona Tolentino, Victoria Tamondong and Maria Soliman, all of Vallejo; sisters, Maria Jonson and Crisanta Malijan of the Philippine Islands; brothers, Celedonio Jr. of Canada and Vicente of Vacaville; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Rose Marie McBeth

Funeral services for Rose Marie McBeth, 46, of Fairfield will be 4 p.m. Friday in Bryan-Braker Funeral Home, 1850 W.  Texas St., in Fairfield.

Inurnment will be private.

Born Oct. 23, 1950, in Denver, she died Aug. 11, 1997, after a long illness. Ms. McBeth was a Fairfield resident for 20 years and worked as a psychiatric technician at Sonoma State hospital, as an accounts payable clerk for Woodard Chevrolet, and as an office technician at Napa State Hospital.

Ms. McBeth is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, James Brian and Christy of Eugene, Ore. and Michael Andrew of Fairfield; mother, Georgiana 'Dutch' Cronin of Sonoma; father, William 'Bill' Cronin of Tucson, Ariz.; sister and brother-in-law, Jo Ann and Neil Harmon, of Middletown; and her soul mate, Lynn Fenton of Fairfield.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Kaiser Hospice Program, 975 Serano Drive, Vallejo 94590.

Arrangements are handled by the Bryan-Baker Funeral Home.

Rudolph William Paluck

Rudolph William Paluck, 68, of Fairfield died Aug. 12, 1997, in La Mariposa Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield after a long illness.

At the request of the family, no formal services will be held. Inurnment will be private.

Born July 17, 1929, in Belfield, N.D., he lived in Fairfield for 35 years.

Mr. Paluck served in the Air Force for 23 years, retiring at Travis Air Force Base as a master sergeant.

He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 21 years, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Paluck is survived by his wife, Emmy of Fairfield; daughter, Billie Jean of Sacramento; son, James of Dixon; sister, Zonie Zygmond of Montana; brothers, Lewis of  Washington, Julian of Oregon and William of Montana; and one grandchild.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bryan-Braker Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Katherine Suzanne Switzer

Funeral services for Katherine Suzanne Switzer, 2 days old, of Vacaville will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Trinity Baptist Church, 401 Monte Vista Ave., in Vacaville.

Pastor Milton Steck will officiate. Burial will be private in Vacaville-Elmira Cemetery.

Born Aug. 8, 1997, in Sacramento, the infant died Aug. 10, 1997, in Vacaville.

The infant is survived by her parents, Jason and Jessica of Vacaville; paternal grandfather, Ron of Vacaville; maternal grandparents, Jim and Marilyn Cherry of Vacaville; maternal great-grandparents, Fred and Margaret Dodson of Vacaville; paternal great-grandparents, John and Marie of Santa Clara; uncle, Justin of Vacaville; and paternal great-grandparents, Bob and Joanne Lennard of Dorris. She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Katherine.

A private visitation will be held.

Arrangements are under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel.
