Milan P. Orosz

WALLINGFORD -- Milan P. Orosz, 78, of South Orchard St., Wallingford, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He is the husband of Florence Zyzo Orosz.

Born in Wallingford, Nov. 2, 1923, he was a son of the late Frank Orosz Sr. and the late Helen Horvath Orosz, and had been a lifelong resident. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Middletown as a Superintendent of Maintenance for 20 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the Major Raoul Lufbery Post No. 591 of Wallingford. He was a parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Church in Wallingford.

Besides his wife Florence, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marilynn A. and Thomas P. Loin of Wallingford; his son and daughter-in-law, David M. and Disa J. Orosz of Southington; his two grandchildren, Hannah M. Orosz and Kyle D. Orosz; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Theresa Orosz, Margaret Orosz, Helen Orosz Egan and Matilda Orosz Server; and two brothers, Frank Orosz Jr. and Bernard Orosz.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext. Wallingford, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter & Paul Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Joan Proto

WALLINGFORD -- Joan Proto, 73, of Pilgrim's Harbor, Wallingford died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002. She was the wife of Alex Proto.

Besides her husband, Alex, she is survived by daughters, Alexandra Stedman of White River Jct, Vt., Linda Dunphy of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Nancy Proto of Wallingford; a brother, William (Margaret) Clapp of Branford; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Branford, 975 Main St., Branford. Memorial gifts may be sent to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT. 06405 or The First Baptist Church of Branford, 975 Main St., Branford, CT. 06405.

George J. Beley

MERIDEN -- George J. Beley, husband of Anna Aloia McDonald Beley of Murray St., died suddenly, Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.

Mr. Beley was born in Meriden, he spent 43 years with the Revere Corporation now part of Honeywell, in a management position as Superintendent of Maintenance. Prior to Revere, Mr. Beley was with the New Departure and International Silver for several years. A graduate of Wilcox Technical School, Mr. Beley served in the U.S. Navy stationed in Pensacola, Fla. and was honorably discharged following the end of the second world war. He was a director of the Intermediate League and in recognition of his long and active service was made an honorary director, a position he retained for many years. In addition, he was an accomplished artist, enthusiastic golfer, fisherman, gardener and a beloved family man who also enjoyed his numerous friends. Mr. Beley was a lifelong parishioner and benefactor of St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church, Meriden, serving as Treasurer for many years.

Besides his wife of 38 years, he is survived by a step-son and daughter-in-law, Robert P. and Patricia C. McDonald of Old Greenwich; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth C. McDonald of Sandy, Utah and Scott R. and Aimee McDonald of New York City; and four sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Laneri of South Glastonbury, Margaret Bailey and Mary Gdovin, both of Dunedin, Fla., and Betty and John Gdovin of New Port Richey, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Catholic Church. He will be interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be calling hours Sunday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden. Recognizing George's dedication to St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church, his family requests contributions to St. Nicholas Greek Catholic Church, 89 Summer St., Meriden, CT. 06450.

Adelina L. Vazquez

MERIDEN -- Adelina L. Vazquez, 5, of Maple St., died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

Born Nov. 22, 1996 in Meriden, she was the beloved daughter of Luis R. and Aida (Rivera) Vazquez. Adelina was a first grader at Thomas Hooker Elementary School in Meriden.

Besides her parents of Meriden, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Luis Vazquez and Margarita Rivera Vazquez of Puerto Rico; maternal grandparents, Rafael V. and Maria M. Garcia of Meriden; also many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Szymaszek-Taylor Funeral Home, 189 E. Main St., Meriden on Sunday, from 5 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family in Adelina's memory.

Robert W. Rogers

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. -- Robert W. Rogers, 67, of Presott Valley, Ariz., passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Lorraine Rogers and brother, Gil Rogers of Colorado.

Born in Meriden, May 29, 1935, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Irene Rogers. Robert lived most of his life in Wallingford until moving to Arizona after his retirement from Allegheny Ludlum in 1996. Robert loved baseball all his life and was an avid Diamondbacks fan.

Besides his wife and brother, he is survived by his five children and their spouses, Cindy Reed of Wallingford, Roxanne Richmond of California, Allen Rogers, Don Rogers and Donna Vandal, all of Meriden; Robert also leaves his six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were private and held at the convenience of the family.

Robert F. Furgalack

MERIDEN -- Robert Francis Furgalack, 53, died on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Yale-New Haven Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Meriden, Feb. 11, 1949, he was the son of the late Victor and Doris (Taylor) Furgalack. He had resided in the Meriden area most of his life. Bob was a 1967 graduate of Wilcox Technical School with a specialty in automotive mechanics. He served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 28, 1967, to Aug. 23, 1970. He served two tours of duty in country during the Vietnam War with the 199th Infantry. He received the following military honors: Army Commendation Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Bob worked for several automobile repair shops, including Genest Motors. He was the cofounder of Metacomet Motors of Southington, a full service automotive repair facility, where his notable talents in fuel injection systems were performed and his knowledge was selflessly shared with others. After his mother passed away, Bob provide selfless, loving care for his father.

Robert is survived by his beloved daughter, Traci Lynn Furgalack of Dunellen, N.J., whom he was extremely proud of, and who maintained an around the clock vigil at his bedside until he peacefully passed away. He had three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ann (Beale) Furgalack of Wallingford, Michael and Johanna (Simone) Furgalack of Southington, Thomas Furgalack and Linda Buganski of Meriden. He is also survived by four nieces and a nephews, Sarah, Rebecca, Taylor, Lucas and Katrina; his aunt, Eleanor Carpenter; his cousins, Mary (Ricci) and William Hilliker, Peter, Sally, and JoAnn Ricci; his uncle and aunt, Howard and Mary Furgalack of Mashpee, Mass.; and several other cousins.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Vietnam Veterans of American, 8605 Cameron St., Suite 400, Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Kevin D. Hayes

BRISTOL -- Kevin D. Hayes Jr., 20, of 51 Lois Street, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at Bristol Hospital. He was the son of Kevin and Cheryl (Cyr)Hayes Sr.

He was born April 30, 1982, in New Britain.

Besides his parents he is survived by his loving friend, Tina Brauld of Bristol; sons, Alexander and Devon Hayes, also of Bristol; a sister Michele Hayes of Southington; two brothers Keith and Michael Hayes of Bristol; paternal grandfather, Arthur Walker of Southington; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lillian (Cyr) Walker and Gilbert Cyr; his paternal grandmother, Joyce Hayes; and a special friend Theresa Bear.

Services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main St., Southington. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to his children Alexander and Devon Hayes.

Menhart Jacob

MIDDLETOWN -- Menhart Jacob, 63, of Azalea Drive, husband of the late Ruth E. (Nilsen) Jacob, died Saturday evening at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

He was born in Meriden, son of Phyllis (Woronick) Jacob of Wallingford and the late Menhart Jacob. Menhart had been employed at the Middlesex Hospital prior to his retirement, and was a member of the Polish National Home.

Surviving, besides his mother; is a sister, Janice Poirier and her husband, Herbert of Wallingford; a niece, Kristen Poirier; a nephew, Herbert M. Poirier; and two great nieces, Crystal and Felicia.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, Inc., 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial will be in the Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday from 12 to 2 p.m.

Shirley Rollins

MERIDEN -- Shirley Abele Kafka Rollins, 81, of 14 South Broad St., wife of the late Richard Rollins, died Sunday morning, Aug. 25, 2002, in the MidState Medical Center.

She was born in Meriden, April 14, 1921, a daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Reynolds Abele. She was a lifelong resident. She retired from the Home Club after over 20 years of employment. She had been a member of the V.F.W., the D.A.V., and the Moose Club.

She is survived by four sons; two daughters-in-law; and two daughters, George and Darlene Kafka of Maine, Judith Gabriel, William and Lynn Kafka, Jerry Kafka, Gary Kafka and Deborah Kafka, all of Meriden; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Polmanteer of Meriden; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Kafka; a brother-in-law, Herbert Dandelski, also of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James Kafka; four brothers, William Northam, Francis, Robert and Harold Abele; also two sisters, Florence Draper and Dolores Dandelski.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family, Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad Street, from 4 to 8 p.m., with her memorial prayer service to be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be private, held at the convenience of her family.
