Mary Carabetta

NEWINGTON -- Mary Barbuto Carabetta, 83, formerly of Wallingford and Wethersfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003 at Jefferson House. She was the widow of Dominic Carabetta.

She is survived by two daughters, Alexine Henzy of Wethersfield and Rosemary Blaszuk of Carlisle, Pa.; a son, Philip Carabetta of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a brother, Paul Barbuto of Wallingford; three sisters, Rose Esposito of Hamden, Theresa Malchodi of Wethersfield and Petrine Burges of Port Richey, Fla.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Barbuto and Carmela Griffin; and a brother, Anthony Barbuto.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 31 at Sacred Heart Church, Wethersfield.

Mary Christoni DeMartino

WALLINGFORD -- Mary Christoni DeMartino, 91, beloved wife of the late Americo "Middy" DeMartino, of North Airline Road, Wallingford died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Regency House of Wallingford.

Born in Italy, Nov. 1, 1911, a daughter of the late James and Rose Urso Baldacchino, she had been a lifelong Wallingford resident. She had been employed by the former Unimax Switch Company of Wallingford for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, and had been a member of the Wallingford Senior Center.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rosemary (Mrs. Robert) Pachesa of Storrs and Janeen (Mrs. Salvatore) Gello of Wallingford; her three sons, Vincent Christoni and his fiancee, Gina Weaver and Joseph Christoni and his wife, Marie Christoni, all of Wallingford and John and Catherine Christoni of Bedford, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Roland Christoni.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. Gifts in her memory may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care, 33 North Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT. 06492.

Brenda Marlow

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A memorial service for Brenda Marlow, 63, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., who died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at home surrounded by her family and friends, will be held at Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford.

Louise Vance

WALLINGFORD -- Louise Firmanty Vance, 76, of Audette Drive, Wallingford, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 in the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Anthony D. Vance.

Born in Glen Lyon, Pa., April 2, 1926, a daughter of the late John and Helen Krupinski Firmanty, she had been a Wallingford resident for 50 years. Mrs. Vance had been employed by the Department of the Navy during World War II, and later had worked for the International Silver Co. She was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Vance and Walter Swistak; her two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony J. and Mary Vance and Ronald J. and Carol Vance, all of Wallingford; her grandchildren, Michael J. Fleck, Kerri L. Tarasiewicz, Anthony E. Vance, Rick Z. Vance, Mark D. Hennessey, Michael T. Hennessey, Mathew S. Hennessey and Chaz F. Scrivines; her great-grandchildren, Christopher J. Tarasiewicz and Kayla R. Hennessey; her brother, Leonard Firmanty of Glen Lyon, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m.. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from The Yalesville Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter and Paul Church where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery at a later date. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans, 80 Hall Avenue, Meriden, CT. 06451.

Mary L. Andrade

WALLINGFORD -- Mary Lourdes Gouveia Andrade, 83, of Ridgeland Circle, Wallingford, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the MidState Medical Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Joseph Andrade Jr.

Born in Madeira, Portugal, March 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Joao and Antonia Francisco Gouveia and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville.

She is survived by her son, Robert A. Andrade of Meriden; her two grandchildren, Sarah Andrade and Jonathan Andrade; her brother, Jorge Gouveia of Brazil; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Maria Santos; and five brothers, Gabriel, Ernest, Joao, Jose and Ricardo Gouveia.

Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the charity of one's choice.

Normand D. Boucher

HURON, Ohio -- Normand D. Boucher, 69, of Huron, Ohio died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 at St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.

He was born Feb. 12, 1933 in Hartford, Conn., and moved to Sandusky in 1968. He worked for New Departure-Hyatt, General Motors, for 36 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron; the Huron Eagles; and the Sandusky I.A.B. Club. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking as hobbies.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte (Harriott), married to for 54 years; three daughters, Debbie (Garry) Balduff of Norwalk, Diane (Matthew) Ruff of Sandusky and Donna (Andrew) Garman of Manheim, Pa.; a son, David (Shelley) Boucher of Austin, Texas ; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Jeannette Dzierzowski of Meriden; and brother, Roland Boucher of Meriden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henri and Isabelle (Pepin) Boucher.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main St., Huron. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Huron. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc., 1689 East 115 St., Cleveland, Ohio 44106; or to the American Diabetes Assoc; or to St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron OH 44839.

Benjamin Catapano

WALLINGFORD -- Benjamin Catapano, 84, formerly of Parker Place and North Colony Street, Wallingford, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

Born in Wallingford, April 10, 1918, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Masucci Catapano, he had been a lifelong resident here. He had been employed at the former Wallace Silversmiths and at DeVito's Market on North Colony Street, both in Wallingford, for many years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.

He is survived by his sister, Rose Johnson of Camden, Tenn.; and his nieces and nephews, Annette Cella of Madison, Theresa Porto of Stuart, Fla., Gloria Faulkner of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Rosemarie Preneta of Wallingford, Andrew F. DeVito of Washington , D.C., Matthew Catapano and Arthur Catapano, both of Wallingford, Richard Guandalini, Marie Stockman and Theresa Madigan, all of North Haven, Patricia Lasher of Houston, Texas and Robert Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary DeVito and Philomena Guandalini; and his brother Arthur Catapano.

His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Saturday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford.

William C. LaFontaine

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- William C. LaFontaine, 78, formerly of Meriden, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was the husband of Alexandra LaFontaine.

He was the son of the late Evelyn Vechitto and Claude LaFontaine. William served as a private first class in World War II, was a former POW and a Purple Heart recipient. Before moving to Las Vegas, William spent his post-retirement years as an employee of Impressive Cleaning Services, Old Saybrook. Prior to that, he was employed by International Silver Co., Insilco, for over 20 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheri LaFontaine, and two grandsons, Ryan and Daniel McDonnell, all of Branford; his brothers, Richard of Las Vegas, Nev., and Robert of Florida; and two sisters, Patricia Macri of Wolcott and Lois Mierzejewski of Cheshire; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine (Lexton).

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Frank Longo

SOUTHINGTON -- Frank "Pete" Longo, 87, husband of Carmela "Millie" (Galiette) Longo of 175 Berlin St., Southington, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003m at Bradley Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Southington, son of the late Peter and Josephine (Pepe) Longo. He was a member of St. Thomas Church, a lifetime member of the Redmen and Calendar House. And the Senior Citizens Golf League. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Macristy Industries of New Britain. He was a 1939 graduate of Lewis High School.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Francine and Robert Holm of Marion and Nanciel and Louis Sarno of Middletown; two sisters, Margaret Maynard of Old Saybrook and Viola Martin of Southington; his beloved grandchildren, Gregory Holm of Arlington, Va., Joseph Sarno of Middletown and Douglas and his wife, Laura Holm of West Hartford; also several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, William, Louis, John and Michael Longo; and his sisters, Rose Landrette, Anna Guidry and Helen Mucha.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, Bristol St., Southington. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Thomas School, 133 Bristol St., Southington, Arc of Southington, West Main St., Plantsville, or St. Sebastian Church Renovation Fund, 155 Washington St., Middletown. Arrangements are under the direction of the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington.

Sara F. Mogensen

WALLINGFORD -- Sara F. Paine Mogensen, 89, of Firetown Road, Simsbury, formerly of Anthony St., New Haven and Wallingford, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Middlesex Convalescent Center in Middletown. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur T. Mogensen Sr.

Born in New Haven, Feb. 23, 1913, a daughter of the late William and Mary McCue Paine, she had been a resident of New Haven for over 70 years until moving to Wallingford and then Simsbury several years ago. She was a private duty registered nurse in the New Haven area for many years until her retirement.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ernest Malley of Naples, Fla.; her two sons and daughters-in-law, William A. and Diane Mogensen of Marlborough and Arthur T. Mogensen Jr. and Eileen Mogensen of Durham; her six grandchildren, Timothy Malley, Tricia Gillet, Tracy Makay, Katie Boucher, Kristen Mogensen and Stephen Mogensen; her three great-grandchildren, Morgan Boucher, Jordan Boucher and Logan Makay; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Alice Paine, Dorothy Paine and Virginia Jeracka; and a brother, William Paine.
