Joseph J. Banack
WALLINGFORD - Joseph J. Banack, 90, of Kondracki Lane, Wallingford, died Monday, March 22, 1999, in the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Anna M. Kondracki Banack.
Born in Meriden, Feb. 11, 1909, son of the late John and Katherine Faron Banack, he was a Wallingford resident for 37 years. He had been employed by the Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Co., in Wallingford, for many years until his retirement in 1974. He was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Church. Mr. Banack was an avid fisherman and hunter and had served on the board of directors, and was a life member of the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club.
He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph E. and Carol G. Banack of Durham, and John H. and Jacqueline M. Banack of Wallingford; four grandchildren, James J. Banack, Dennis M. Banack, Christopher J. Banack, and Melissa B. Gilligan; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Banack, James Banack, Kristyn Banack, Scott Banack and Stephen Gilligan; a sister, Mary Kronenberger of Wallingford; a brother, Michael Banack of Wallingford, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna J. Champagne, and a brother, Frank Banack.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to SS. Peter & Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. ELMIS H. TORRES
MERIDEN - Elmis H. Torres, husband of Nereida Crespo Torres, of 18 Tremont St., died March 18, 1999. The location and time of his funeral liturgy has been changed. It will be held Tuesday, (TODAY) beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with his Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, not in St. Rose of Lima Church as originally announced. He will interred in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Ernst Veittinger
CHESHIRE - Ernst Max Veittinger, 98, of 140 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire, died Feb. 20, 1999, at Elim Park Baptist Home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1900, in Esslinger, Germany, a son of the late Herman and Louise Schlienz Veittinger. He had been employed as a machine operator at Cott Beverages. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by a sister, in Esslinger, Germany.
Burial was at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
Barbara A. Banville
SOUTHINGTON - Barbara A. Banville, 55, of 77 Shweky Lane, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at New Britain General Hospital.
She was born July 8, 1943, in Fall River, Mass., daughter of the late E. Raymond and Isabelle (Levesque) Banville. She was a physics teacher at East Catholic High School since 1986 and taught school for most of her life. She graduated from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, and was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.
She is survived by her lifelong friend and companion, Suzanne Lawlor of Southington; her brother, Gary and sister-in-law, Barbara J. Banville of Plantsville; her special uncles, Robert Robillard of Maryland, and Gene and his wife, Loretta Levesque of Delaware; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt and uncles.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday (TODAY) from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Gertrude Cerasale
MERIDEN - Gertrude Glazewski Cerasale, 70, wife of Liberato F. (Libby) Cerasale for 49 years, died in the arms of her beloved husband at MidState Medical Center on Feb. 12, 1999. She was the daughter of the late Stanley J. and Anna Milosnicki Glazewski.
Mrs. Cerasale was born on March 6, 1929, in Meriden. She was a graduate of St. Stanislaus School and Meriden High School, class of 1947. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Meriden. Mrs. Cerasale was a member of the National AARP, local AARP No. 2954, local AARP No. 4644, and the Meriden Senior Citizens' Center. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, West Campus for 18 years and a member of the Women's Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer at the Bradley Home. Mrs. Cerasale was an associate member of the U.S. Coast Guard Alumni Association and a former member of the Southington Women's Club.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Maryjane Smith of South Windsor; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Louis Scala of Meriden; her son and daughter-in-law, U.S. Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander Mark and Audrey Cerasale of Key West, Fla.; and her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Dawn Cerasale of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Mandi, Mindi, and Nile Scala of Meriden; Kasey and Megan Cerasale of Key West, Fla., and Matthew and Ellen Cerasale of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Evelyn Tomalski of Southington, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden, and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Paula J. Kalosky
MOODUS - Paula Jean Kalosky, 43, of 206 North Moodus Road, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at her home. She was the beloved wife of Robert G. Kalosky.
She was born in New Britain on Aug. 17, 1955, daughter of the late Frank A. and Lidia (Deske) Carbo. She had worked for Aetna Insurance for 20 years and most recently worked as a manager for Travelers Property and Casualty in Hartford. She graduated in 1973 from Berlin High School, then in 1975 she graduated from Baypath College in Longmeadow, Mass. She had been attending the University of Hartford School of Business. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Congregation in East Haddam.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Philip T. Kalosky of Moodus; two brothers, John P. Carbo of Stonington and David A. Carbo of East Haddam.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the First Church of Christ Congregational in East Haddam. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home, 27 W. F. Palmer Road, Moodus. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Church of Christ Congregation, 499 Town St., East Haddam, CT 06423.
A. Andrew Basso
SOUTHINGTON - A. Andrew Basso, 90, of 985 Meriden Ave., died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Mediplex of Connecticut. He was the husband of Ida (Lugano) Basso.
Born in Salerno, Italy, the son of the late Amelio and Angelina Basso. He was a barber prior to his retirement 37 years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Chile Mauro of Southington; a grandson, Michael A. Mauro, and his wife, Janis, of Largo, Fla.; and a brother, Edward Basso of New Jersey.
Funeral and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, has charge of arrangements.
Paul Pieciuk
MERIDEN - Paul Pieciuk, 89, husband of Sophie (Bagadinski) Pieciuk, of 544 Parker Ave. South, died Friday, May 21, 1999, at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born March 24, 1910, in Norwich, he was the son of the late John and Michaelina Pieciuk. Mr. Pieciuk was a longtime resident of Meriden and employed by the city of Meriden for more than 25 years on the police force until retiring in 1977. He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, and a member of the Polish Knights and the Polish Falcons Nest 68. He was active in semipro baseball as a pitcher for many years, playing with local teams including the New Departure "ENDEES." Paul was also an avid golfer and league bowler.
Besides his wife of 67 years, he leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Paul Pieciuk Jr. and Gloria Pieciuk of Meriden; a daughter and son-in-law, Corrine and Robert Livingston of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, May 24, from the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at the funeral home.
Richard J. Belden
NEW YORK - Richard Joseph Belden, 75 died Monday, May 10, 1999, in Veteran's Affairs Medical Center after a short illness. Private burial services were held May 13, 1999, at Pineview Memorial Gardens, Wetumpka, Ala. Mr. Belden was born in Rutland, Vt., the son of the late Gerald E. and Margaret Mailhiot Belden.
He served his country honorably with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.
He is survived by one son, James R. Belden of Wetumpka, Ala.; two daughters, Carolyn Williams of Columbus, Ga., and Jennis Belden of Wichita, Kan; a sister, Catherine B. Sekellick of Meriden; a close friend and confidante, Betty Belden Greene of Troy, Ala.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Beverly McAllister, and his brother, Robert Belden.
Marjorie I. Bradley
MERIDEN - Marjorie Irene Peet Bradley, 92, of 360 Broad St., formerly of 8 Pilgrims Harbor, Wallingford, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at the MidState Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Everett C. Bradley.
She was born in Kent, Aug. 29, 1906, a daughter of the late Frank and Annie Hall Peet.
She lived in Orange and Wallingford before moving to Meriden. She was a graduate of the former Northfield Seminary in East Northfield, Mass., and graduated as a dietitian from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. She spent most of her life helping others. She was a hostess for Welcome Wagon in Milford and New Haven, founding the newcomer clubs in both towns. Mrs. Bradley was an active volunteer for over 50 years with the Red Cross of Milford, Wallingford, Meriden and New Haven, the Milford Hospital Auxiliary, Brook Hollow and Miller Memorial. She was a member of the Center Congregational Church in Meriden.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Laurence S. and Diane L. Bradley; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Peter Turdin Sr., both of Wallingford; and five grandchildren, Peter Frederick Turdin Jr., Jill Marie Bradley, Pamela Lynne Turdin, Joy Starr Bradley and Adam Everett Bradley.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St. with the Rev. George True of the Center Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be at In Memoriam Cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, she requests gifts in her memory be made to the Wallingford or Meriden Public Library toward their Large Print Collection.
James E. Calamari
WALLINGFORD - James E. Calamari, 75, of Center Street, Wallingford, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, in the MidState Medical Center in Meriden.
Born in Meriden, March 7, 1924, son of the late Ernest G. and Ruby C. Baker Calamari, he was a Wallingford resident for 59 years. He had been employed by Cytec of Wallingford for 46 years until his retirement in 1992.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth M. Calamari of Wallingford.
