Helen Mary (Leonard) Angelicola
Mrs. Helen Mary (Leonard) Angelicola, 53, of 85-5 Ridge Road, Naugatuck, died unexpectedly Monday February 6, 2006, at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of Michael P. Angelicola.
Mrs. Angelicola was born in Norwalk, February 22, 1952, a daughter of the late Alfred and Shirley (LeNan) Leonard and was a Naugatuck resident for the past 27 years, moving here from New Milford. She was employed at OAO Technical Solutions for the past 5 years, and was previously employed at McDonald's in Naugatuck. She was a 1971 graduate of Bethel High School and was a member of Post 17 American Legion Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and an avid bingo player.
Besides her husband of 28 years, she leaves one daughter, Heather Angelicola of Naugatuck; three brothers, Alfred Leonard of East Hartford, Frederick Leonard of Albuquerque, N.M., and Robert Leonard of Bethel. She was predeceased by a son, Dominic Angelicola.
Arrangements: The funeral will be held on Saturday February 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. from the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 210 Church St. for services at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Jean R. Schnabel
Jean R. Schnabel, age 73 of Dade City, Florida, formerly of Bethel, Conn., passed away suddenly on March 18, 2006.
Born in New York City, Sept. 24, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Rachel Knapp and Lewis Palmer. She was the widow of John “Bud” P. Schnabel.
She was a graduate of Danbury High School and was a bookkeeper for Bethel Hardware and Triad Industries in Danbury.
Survivors are a sister Diana Knapp Bates of Waterbury; two nephews: John Knapp Jr. and his wife Lisa of Danbury and Rob Bates and his wife Chantelle of New Milford. Two nieces: Kathleen Knapp of Danbury and Dewah Bates Smith and her husband Charles of Plymouth, and eight great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her long time companion John Chad of Winter Park, Fla., and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother John “Jack” Knapp Sr. Interment was in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
Paul Joseph Newman
After 35 years as an educator, Paul J. Newman retired to Carlsbad, Calif. in 1985. He died on April 4, 2006 at the age of 84. Interment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego on April 27, 2006.
Mr. Newman was born on Long Island, N.Y., in 1921 and attended public school in Lindenhurst, N.Y. He entered Kutztown (Pa.) State Teachers College in 1940 but left during his sophomore year to join the Navy. He served a tour of duty on the USS Lexington and in 1945 completed Midshipman School at Columbia University, where he earned his ensign's commission. He returned to college after serving in World War II, completing his bachelor's degree in 1948. He went on to obtain a masters degree in education from the University of Connecticut and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Fairfield University.
Mr. Newman began his teaching career at Torrington High School, where he taught English and social studies, and also coached the high school basketball team. He went on to teach math for six years in Springfield, Mass., before moving to New Milford in 1957. In New Milford he started the high school guidance program, and worked as guidance director and school psychologist for 24 years in the New Milford school system. In addition, he was served as president of the Connecticut School Counselors Association from 1970-1972.
Mr. Newman also served in the Naval Reserve until 1971, retiring as senior lieutenant. In Carlsbad, Mr. Newman served on the City Personnel Board for five years.
He leaves behind his wife Minde, daughters Lisa Rosenberg of Los Angeles, Julie Gallichotte of Seattle, and Dana Newman of Windham, Maine, along with four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Carlsbad, Calif., on April 30, 2006. Memorial donations may be made to the Leichtag Family Foundation, Seacrest Village, 211 Saxony Road, Encinitas, CA.
Helen Halloran Reilly
Helen Halloran Reilly, 61, of Norwalk, wife of Gene Michael Reilly, died peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer April 9, 2006.
Helen was born in Stamford, April 16, 1944, daughter of the late John and Helen Halloran and had been a resident of Norwalk most of her life. Helen loved children and was actively involved in caring for them all her life. She was a member of St. Phillips Prayer Community.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children: Susan Whalen, of Avon; Jean Reilly and her husband, Gerrard Shaun of Naugatuck; and Patrick Reilly of Norwalk; four grandchildren: Kylie, Aries, Kristen and Elaine, her sisters: Ann and her husband, Dr. Eugene McNamara, Patricia Madeaux of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; and her brothers: Larry Halloran and his wife, Diane of Norwalk; and John Halloran of Bangor, Maine, and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond Community Funeral Home, 5 East Wall St., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Phillip's Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Norwalk.

Emerich Ohlbaum
In Delray Beach, Fla., Emerich Ohlbaum, 80, of Amberly Lane, Delray Beach, Fla., formerly of Hartford, died on April 9. born in Hungary June 11, 1925, he was a son of the late Zoltan & Julia (Steiner) Ohlbaum. Devoted husband of Viola S. Ohlbaum. Beloved father of: Ellisa Ohlbaum Hansen of Danbury, Mitchell (Jennifer Dion) Ohlbaum. Cherished grandfather of: Olivia, Spencer, Edward, Shoshana, Rebecca and Miki.
Mr. Ohlbaum was the founder and owner of Em's Bakery in Hartford for many years until his retirement in 1990. He was an active member of Teferes Israel of Hartford and Temple Emeth of Delray Beach., Fla., from which he was honored as its "Man of the Year."
Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth Tikvah, 168 Durham Road, Madison, Wednesday at 10 a.m. with interment services to follow in the Temple Beth Tikvah section of Beaverbrook Cemetery, Route 145, Clinton. Memorial contributions may be sent to Temple Emeth, 5780 West Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33484. A Period of Mourning will be observed following the burial service at the Coady residence, 97 Linden Ave., Branford, and then Kaddish will be said at sundown on Saturday also at the Coady residence, then friends are invited to join with the Ohlbaum Hansen family, 1 Farview Ave., #15, in Danbury on Friday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Edwin S. Keeler
On March 14, 2006, Edwin S. (Sonny) Keeler of New Milford passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was the husband of the late Anne Starburd Keeler.
Sonny was born on Dec. 12, 1931 in Tarrytown, N.Y., son of the late Edwin S. Keeler Sr. and Eileen M. Flynn Keeler.
He received a masters degree from UCLA, and retired from Hughes Aircraft Defense as a design engineer after 48 years of employment. One of his proudest achievements was the use of his design for the first soft landing on the moon.
One of his many loves was playing golf at St. Andrews in Scotland for many years. A devout Republican, he was personally acquainted with Ronald and Nancy Reagan, the Bush family, Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf.
Mr. Keeler is survived by a brother, E. Daniel Keeler and his wife Billie of Orland, Maine; two sisters: Sarah J. Lowe of Fryeburg, Maine, and Susan J. D'Alessio of New Milford, and many loving nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on April 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford.

Carl H. Noack III
Carl H. Noack III, 43, of Danbury, son of Marybeth (Perry) and William Hamilton died on Saturday afternoon, April 8, 2006 at Danbury Hospital.
A beloved son, brother and grandson, Carl was born in Danbury, August 11, 1962, attended local schools and graduated from Danbury High School Class of 1980.
He was a self-employed arborist and tree surgeon.
An avid bowler, he was a member of several bowling leagues including the Church Brotherhood League of Danbury.
Carl enjoyed football and baseball and was a passionate fan of the Miami Dolphins and Boston Red Sox.
He was a former member of the Candlewood Baptist Church of Danbury.
In addition to his mother Marybeth and father Bill, a brother Gary Noack, a sister Lori Noack Brothers and her husband Mark, his maternal grandmother Dorothy A. Perry all of Danbury as well as an aunt, cousins and many beloved friends survive.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday evening (today) at 7 p.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury with Pastor Daniel Kelly of the Church of Bethel officiating.
Interment will take place in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home today after 5 p.m.

Arun Kumar Santhanam
Arun Kumar Santhanam, 50, of Ridgefield, a financial executive at Polo Ralph Lauren, died on Friday morning at Danbury Hospital.
Born in Chennai, India, he moved to the United States to complete his Master's degree in Business Administration. He was also a C.P.A.
A Ridgefield resident for the past eleven years, he was an avid tennis player and enthusiast.
Arun Kumar is survived by his wife, Renuka and son, Samir both of Ridgefield and father, N.R. Santhanam of Chennai, India.
Funeral services will be private.

Agnes Ellen Gantnier
Agnes Ellen Gantnier, 79, of Charles Drive, Wolcott, formerly of Benedicta, Maine, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Abbott Terrace. She was the widow of Felix Gantnier.
Mrs. Gantnier was born August 19, 1926 in Brewster, N.Y., daughter of the late Martin and Emma (Enzine) Durkin. She retired from Montgomery Ward with over twenty-five years of service. She attended St. John Episcopal Church. She enjoyed playing all sports and was the captain of her basketball team at Brewster High School. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by two sons, Roger Gantnier of Benedicta, Maine and Martin Gantnier of Wolcott; two daughters, Sharon McDonald of Wolcott, with whom she made her home and Renee Taylor of Southbury; two sisters, Beatrice Elliott of New Port Richey, Fla. and Marie Gronke of Patterson, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren, Marc and Terri Gantnier, Monica Asencio, Sara Wheeler, Amanda Rush, Samantha Gantnier and Olivia McDonald. She is also survived by two sons-in-law, Michael McDonald and Montgomery Taylor and two daughters-in-law, Donna Gantnier and Michelle Charbonneau.
She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Durkin.
She was a loving wife and mother, and was happiest with her home full of family and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, July 6, 2006, at 8:30 a.m. from the Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Road, Wolcott, to St. John Episcopal Church for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

J. Gretchen Knieriem
J. Gretchen Wolthausen Knieriem, age 92, formerly of Bethel, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Ashlar of Newtown. She was the widow of Thomas C. Knieriem Jr.
Mrs. Knieriem was born in Danbury on June 24, 1914, a daughter of the late John Henry and Theresa Daritz Wolthausen. She was an area resident all of her life and was a wonderful wife and sister to her late husband, brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a brother: John Wolthausen of California and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Lawrence, Edna and Elsa Wolthausen.
The family will receive friends at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division St., Danbury, Saturday afternoon between 1 and 2. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family. Burial of her ashes in Wooster Cemetery will take place at a later date.
John A. McNamara
John A. McNamara, 89, formerly of Danbury, died at the Westport Health Care Center in Westport on Monday, July 3, 2006.
Jack was born in Danbury, June 23, 1917, son of the late Michael and Mary (Lynch) McNamara. He was a lifetime Danbury resident and a graduate of Danbury High School. Prior to his retirement, he had worked for many years as a "brakeman" on the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railway, later Amtrak. He had served in the U. S. Army during WW II and was an avid bowler.
Jack is survived by a sister: Rita Detscher of Tallahassee, Fla., a brother, Raymond McNamara and his wife, Lucy, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Lillian McNamara of Danbury and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary McNamara and four brothers: Robert, Joseph, Tom and Walter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Nuna L. Cohen
Nuna L. Cohen, 64, of Danbury, entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Danbury Hospital. Mrs. Cohen was born January 18, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Clarence Willis and Willie Mae Willis. Mrs. Cohen was educated in the New York school system. In 1999 she relocated to Connecticut where she worked as a cashier for Filenes and Macy's department stores. Mrs. Cohen was an active member of New Bethel Church OGIC and a dedicated member of the usher board as well as a secretary for the Sunday school; she was a caring and loving mother who had faith in God.
She is survived by four sons: Leroy H. Cohen, Michael G Plaza and Anwar Cohen all of New York and Anthony Cohen of Cheshire; one daughter, Sharon Cohen of New York; one sister, Sandra Willis of Danbury. and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Willis.
Funeral service will be Thursday July 6 at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Church of God in Christ, 26 Liberty St. Danbury, CT. Calling hours at 10 a.m. Family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Wooster Cemetery. Arrangements by Petteway Funeral Home, Waterbury.
Sgt. Thomas J. Boles Jr.
Sgt. Thomas J. Boles Jr., 22, of New Milford, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, in Brookfield following a motorcycle accident.
Thomas "T.J." Boles, Jr. was born in Danbury on July 4, 1983, son of Lillian Coveney of New Milford and Thomas Boles Sr. of Florida.
He was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School, Danbury, in 2002, and was a Marine Sergeant with the Second Marine Logistics Group, Camp LeJeune, N.C. He served a nine-month tour of duty in Iraq.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step-father, Jeff Storms of New Milford; two brothers: Josh Boles and Justin Storms, both of New Milford; a sister, Megan Storms of New Milford; maternal grandparents, Dick and Doti Owen of Miss.; several aunts, uncles, cousins and one nephew. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Jerry and Mary Boles; and uncle, Lincoln Boles.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Center Cemetery, New Milford, with full military honors.
Friends may call on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford.

Virginia Strandberg
Virginia Rebstock Strandberg, age 68, of Danbury, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Strandberg was born January 25, 1938, in New Milford, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Carlotta Blake Rebstock. She was a resident of Danbury for many years and worked at Messengers in Bethel and later at Hancock Hall Nursing Home in Danbury.
She is survived by her son: James Strandberg and his wife Michelle of Brookfield; sisters-in-law: Jean Woods and Jeanette Schmidt both of Florida; two grandsons: Michael and Nicholas Strandberg of Brookfield; and nieces: Holly Curley and Linda Caputo of Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family. Burial of her ashes will take place in Elmwood Cemetery at a time to be announced. There are no calling hours.
