DORAN, GEORGE F.
November 24, 2008
George F. Doran, 81, of Guilford, passed away Nov. 24, 2008 in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Frances L. Doran. Mr. Doran was born in Bronx, N.Y. July 3, 1927. He was a retired New York City police officer and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was affiliated with the wine and spirits industry for 47 years. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Georgette of Boston, MA., James of Pacifica, CA., Victoria and Jill, both of Tampa, FL.; his grandchildren, Katlin and Margaret, both of Tampa, FL. and Ryan of Pacifica, CA.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to the Interstitial Lung Disease Center at Yale New Haven Hospital, 20 York St., New Haven, CT 06504.

FLANAGAN, ROSANN
November 22, 2008
Rosann Flanagan of 37 Alfred St., New Haven, died Nov. 22, 2008 at her home. Born in New Haven Dec. 17, 1939, she was the beloved daughter of Mrs. Mildred Proto Esposito and the late Henry F. Esposito. She worked as a bank teller for Webster Bank and its predecessors for 30 years prior to her retirement. Besides her mother, she is survived by a son, John (Christine) Flanagan of Northford; three daughters, Dawn (Anthony) Flanagan-Peretore of North Haven, Roxann (Jimmy) Dell’Aquila of Northford and Kim (Steve) Flanagan of Branford; a brother, Giro D. (Rae) Esposito of New Haven; two sisters, Jessie Delecke of New Haven and Donna (Tony) Galardi of Hamden; and nine grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent dePaul’s Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven Wednesday morning at 11:00.

CARRANO, ANTHONY N.
November 16, 2008
Anthony N. Carrano Jr., 81, of 301 Great Oak Road, Orange, died Nov. 16, 2008 at his home. He was the husband of Lucy Marchetto Carrano. Mr. Carrano was born in New Haven April 24, 1927, son of the late Anthony and Susan Peroglese Carrano. Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was a trailer truck driver for Consolidated Freightways for more than 30 years and was a member of Teamsters Union Local 443. At one time, he worked at Seamless Rubber Co. His joy in life was his family and friends; nothing was more important. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Judy (Luis) Velazquez of Orange; a brother, Richard Carrano of Sarasota, FL.; two sisters, Lucy Cimino of Sarasota and Ann O’Brien of Wallingford; 2 grandchildren, Nicholas P. Carrano and Jenna Lynn Martin. He was predeceased by a son, Gary P. Carrano.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight), New Haven Tuesday, Nov. 18th from 4 to 8 PM and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Infant Church Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.

AMATO, JOHN
November 7, 2008
John Amato, 58, of 167 Huntington Ave., New Haven, passed away Nov. 7, 2008. Born in New Haven Oct. 23, 1950, he was the son of the late Ralph and Andronike (Nicky) Amato. He was a retired limousine driver. Uncle John was a gentle soul who will be missed by his family and friends. His kindness and sincerity will forever be remembered. He is survived by two brothers, Frank (Rosalie) Amato and Ralph Amato Jr., both of New Haven; and a sister, Cookie (Roy) Bernardi of Cheshire. He was the loving uncle of Michael, Michelle, Christina & Francesca; and great uncle of Cecelia.

MPOSO, BERTOZZI M.
November 5, 2008
Bertozzi M. Mposo, 19, of 309 Humphrey St., New Haven passed away suddenly Nov. 5, 2008. Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on May 21, 1989, she was the daughter of Mposo Ntumbanzondo and Nsinga Nganswe. She came to New Haven four years ago, graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in June and was a freshman student at UConn. Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Wabi Mposo & Ekokobe Ntumbanzondo, both of New Haven; an aunt, Annie Musheni of Edmond, Oklahoma; and two cousins, Oponge Mpya & Mimy Mpowa, both of New York City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Chapel at Yale, 268 Park St., New Haven, Monday morning at 11:00. Friends may call at the Chapel prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.

PALO, EMMA
November 2, 2008
Emma Cifarelli Palo, 84, of 173 Alps Road, Branford, died Nov. 2, 2008 in Branford Hills. She was the wife of Vincent James Palo and was a former resident of Idlewood Drive, Northford. Born in New Haven Feb. 26, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John and Lucia Crocco Cifarelli. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Marie (Robert) Frosolone of Northford, Lucille (Lester) Franceour of Bangor, ME. And Loretta Palo of Branford; two brothers, Ralph & Noah Cifarelli, both of East Haven; a sister, Carmel Bousquet of East Haven; six grandchildren, Anthony & Brian (Shelly) Frosolone, Michelle & Lester Franceour, Jeremy (Mary) & Matthew (Kari) Pongetti; four great grandchildren, Michael Moody, Emma Rose, Jackie Lynn & Nathanel Pongetti. She was predeceased by three brothers, Angelo, Adolph & Emil Cifarelli and six sisters, Evelyn Pesce, Vera Fedora, Anne Serio, Annette Franco, Mary Apuzzo & Concetta Melillo. Funeral Services will be held in The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday morning at 11:00. Friends may call prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment in All Saints Cemetery.

OSBORNE, JUDY V.
October 30, 2008
Judy V. Canty Osborne, 77, of 362 Newhall St., New Haven, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 30, 2008. She was the widow of Kenneth Christopher Osborne. Mrs. Osborne was born in White Plains, N.Y. Jan. 3, 1931, daughter of the late James & Inez Canty. Prior to her retirement, she worked at the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council in New Haven for 15 years. She previously worked for New Haven Quilt & Comforter Co in East Haven for 30 years and for Buckingham Routh Plumbing Co. She is survived by a son, Anthony Vincent Wynn and a daughter, Melody Wynn Mungham, both of New Haven; a sister, Nirvana Longham of Nevada; and a nephew, Byron Davis.
Funeral Services are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven and will be private. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Fr. McGivney Cancer Center at St. Raphael’s Hospital, 1450 Chapel St., New Haven, CT.06511.

LEINDECKER, PHILOMENA

Philomena “Mena” Mauro Leindecker, 74, of 168 Benham Hill Road, West Haven, died Oct. 27, 2008 in The Connecticut Hospice, Branford. She was the wife of Kurt Leindecker. Mrs. Leindecker was born in New Haven July 8, 1934, daughter of the late John Mauro Sr. and Mary Grace Rapuano Mauro. Prior to her retirement in 1965, Mrs. Leindecker served as a secretary to New Haven Police Chief, Francis McManus. Prior to that, she was a secretary in the office of Mayor William C. Celentano. Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Kurt G. Leindecker of West Haven; a brother, Albert Mauro of Kansas City, MO.; nieces & nephews Mary Jo Carter, John Daniel Mauro, Rachel Mauro & Albert Mauro Jr. She was predeceased by two brothers, Dr. Alexander Mauro and Dr. John Mauro Jr.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Requiem Mass at Christ Church, 84 Broadway, New Haven Saturday morning at 11:00. Interment immediately following the service. VETRONE, A. ROBERT
October 19, 2008
Anthony Robert “Bob” Vetrone, 68, of Valdosta, GA., formerly of East Haven, died suddenly Oct. 19, 2008 in Rocky Hill while attending his 50th class reunion, East Haven High School, Class of 1958. Born in New Haven Aug. 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Vincent J. “Jimmy” Vetrone and Katherine Scully Vetrone Bolduc. His father was a well respected educator in both the New Haven and East Haven School Systems. Bob served with the U.S. Army in Europe from 1960 to 1963 and graduated from Dartmouth College in 1965. He worked for Uniroyal and Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Co. until 1988, with a rich career in human resource management in Naugatuck, Conn., Detroit, Mich. and Eau Claire, Wisc., having served as a general foreman, training manager, special project manager & Organizational Development Division Manager. He became a division manager in Human Resources with Bridgestone/Firestone in Oklahoma City from 1988 to 1992. Bob’s most favorite opportunities came later, first with World Sports, an affiliate of CBS Sports, who filmed NASCAR events in Charlotte, N.C. Then, after retirement, he discovered a passion for teaching as a substitute teacher at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, GA. “Mr. Bob” became a favorite of Lowndes students, and he became a fan of theirs in baseball, football and in academics. Bob made meaningful contributions to the communities in which he lived. He was president of the Naugatuck Personnel Association, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Council of Safety, a member of the Board of Directors of the Health Care Coalition in Oklahoma City, and an instructor at technical schools. Bob’s life was touched by sports at every time of his life. He was a point guard in basketball, a pitcher in baseball, and a tight end in football. He was a proud member of the East Haven Sports Hall of Fame. His best buddy was his catcher, John Greico, and East Haven coach Frank Crisafi was his hero. He credited his participation in sports in the 1950’s as teaching him teamwork and many of life’s lessons. Bob will live in our hearts in the memories of everyone who knew him. He was truly an unforgettable character. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbara Reaves Smith Vetrone of Valdosta, GA.; daughters and sons in law, Deanna and Tom Oldham of Troy, Mich. and Suzanne and Paul DeAngelis of White Lake, Mich.; sisters and brothers in law, Patricia and John Clarendon of Masspee, Mass. and Katherine and William McCarthy of Hamden; his brother, Vincent Vetrone Jr. of New Haven; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, sisters in law and brothers in law that he loved from all his families. Bob was the proud grandfather to Rocco DeAngelis and recently had an opportunity to spend time with him. In addition, Bob was a wonderful step-father to Jon (Staci) Smith of Whispering Pines, N.C.and Jennifer Smith of San Francisco; and grandfather to Abigail Smith.

KOUTROUMANIS, STELLA
October 13, 2008
Stella Xenakis Koutroumanis, 83, of North Haven, died Oct. 13, 2008 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. Born in Danbury Dec. 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Louis & Despina Xenakis. She graduated with honors from Danbury High School. She volunteered as a nurse’s aid in New Haven, and, later worked in the payroll departments at High Standard Manufacturing Co in Hamden and New Departure in Meriden. She became a full time home maker after the birth of her son, Andrew. She enjoyed playing the piano and was remarkably skilled at crocheting and knitting. She was beloved by her family and friends. She is survived by her son Andrew Koutroumanis and his wife Gayle; a brother, Peter Xenakis; a sister, Mary Xenakis Mitchell; two nieces, Sylvia & Pauline Mitchell; and a granddaughter, Christina Koutroumanis. She was predeceased by sisters, Pauline & Georgia Xenakis.

SALERNO, JACK F.
October 11, 2008
Jack Francis Salerno, 84, of Masonic Ave., Wallingford, formerly of 125 Putnam Ave., Hamden, passed away Oct. 11, 2008 in Masonic Health Center, Wallingford. Born in New Haven Aug. 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Donato and Maria Grazia Cerrone Salerno. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the former Charles W. Scranton Co., Bank of Boston and Harold’s Antiques of New Haven on Whalley Ave. He served in the US Army during World War II. He is survived by two brothers, John (Antoinette) Salerno of Torrance, CA. and Charles (Elaine) Salerno of New Haven; three sisters, Ellen Concelmo & Anna (Edward) Murphy, both of Milford and Elizabeth Curci of Hamden; several loving nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers, Pasquale, Albert, Daniel, George & Francis Salerno and three sisters, Mary Caliendo, Josephine Salerno & Phyllis Santarcangelo.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Church, 397 Ferry St. Friday morning at 9:30. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. BOUZOUCOS, JOHN G.
October 10, 2008
John G. Bouzoucos, 82, of Manhattan, New York died quietly Oct. 10, 2008 in New York City. Born in New Haven Aug. 10, 1926, he was the son of the late George and Alexandra Bouzoucos. He graduated from Hillhouse High School in 1944 and was a member of the varsity football team. He graduated from M.I.T. Class of 1948 after serving in the U.S. Air Force. A developer in Rockland County New York for over 40 years, he built individual homes and unique town homes in more than six communities. Some of his developments included Mt. Vernon Manor and Georgetown Manor. He was a religious man who attended bible study classes. He enjoyed dancing, astronomy, archeology and gardening. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, A.F & A.M. He is survived by two sisters, Irene Pournaras of Hamden & Eugenia “Nea” Phillips of Stamford; a brother Ted Bouzoucos and wife Patricia of Woodbridge; his good friend, Joan Connors of Rockland County, N.Y.; and six nieces & nephews. Dwight) New Haven Thursday from 5 to 8 PM and are invited to attend funeral services in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange Friday morning at 10:30.
