McCanna-Hull, Marion L.

Marion Lorraine McCanna-Hull of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Sunday November 3, 2002.

She was 85.

Mrs. Hull was born February 12, 1917 in Rochester, New York, the daughter of the late Alta Skaggs.

Mrs. Hull moved to Bradford, Pennsylvania and worked at Bradford Hospital in patient care services.

She moved to Delaware in 1954 where they raised three sons, Charles Simons, James “Jimmy” Hull and Jerry Hull.

She enjoyed country music, the Grand Ole Opera, cooking, knitting, crocheting and laughter.

She had a good sense of humor as evidenced by her raising three boys.

She loved to watch people and believed she was the “first” true neighborhood watch.

She always made holidays special with lots of good food and lots of love.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garold P. Hull on August 31, 2001 and a son, James D. Hull in 1992.

She is survived by her loving companion, a tiny Chihuahua named “Santana”; 2 sons, Charles G. Simons of

Troutville, Virginia and Jerry Hull and his wife, Jane of Clayton, Delaware; 6 grandchildren, Jocelyn D. Queen and Gregory s. Hull both of Frederica, Delaware, Rhonda M. Palmer of Milford, Delaware, Bobby Simons of Sulfur Springs, Texas, Renae Tubb of Dike, Texas and Jay Simons of Paris, Texas; 2 step-grandchildren, Emily Kelley of Hamburg, Arkansas and Eddie Wingard Jr. of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; 3 great grandchildren, Savannah, Nicholas and Alex and 3 step-great grandchildren, Hannah, Lanie and Dylon and a cousin, Robert McCanna of Bradford, Pennsylvania.

We know she is in heaven chasing Grandpa and with her mother and son Jimmy. We miss you Mother and you will not be forgotten. May God Bless You and we shall see you on the other side.

Services will be Thursday November 7, 202 at 2PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9PM.

Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware.

Arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors, Inc., 29 south Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Haas, Dorothy B.

Dorothy B. Haas, 63, of Smyrna, died on Sunday November 3 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover.

She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Alberta Blow.

Mrs. Haas had been employed by the Town of Smyrna from 1957-1967.

She then was employed by the Delaware Department of Transportation as an administrative assistant from 1967-2000, when she retired.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Smyrna, and was currently serving as a Deacon. She had formerly served as an Elder and Clerk of Session.

Mrs. Haas enjoyed reading, cooking, and gardening.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years, James D. Haas; a brother, Donald K. Blow, of Smyrna; two sisters, Charlotte Lenhoff, of Clayton; and Mary E. King, of Chadds Ford, Pa.; and twelve nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday November 7 at First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10:00 AM.

Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, De. 19977; or to the Delaware Humane Assoc., 701 A St., Wilmington, De. 19801.

Arrangements were by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.

Dean, June W.

June W. Dean, age 69, of Bear, DE, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2002 in Christiana Hospital.

June was born in Cecil County, MD on June 25, 1933 to the late Henry B. and Olivia G. Wagner. She graduated from Newark High School in 1951. She was a member of the National Honor Society for 3 years, played first chair violin in the school orchestra and was selected for participation in Girls State. After graduating, she began her career at the Hercules Research Center, but resigned to start a family. Several years later, she joined the DuPont Company assigned to the Louviers Building and later transferred to the Glasgow site, where she worked in Medical Products until her retirement in 1991. June’s hobbies included dancing, camping, garage/yard sales, flea markets and crocheting. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, David W. Dean; her children, Debra D. Wooters of Greenwood, DE, Sharon M. Breznitsky and her husband, Jim of New Castle, DE, and Sandra B. Dean of Salisbury, MD. She was preceded in death by her son, David W. Dean, Jr., who died in 1967. She has 5 grandchildren, Brian D. and Jaime L. Toner, Matthew A. Wooters and James R. and Caitlin M. Breznitsky and one great granddaughter, Britney Renee Toner. She also leaves 3 sisters, Betty Gears of Middletown, DE, Jeanette Robinson of Lakeland, FL and Harriet Wildermuth of Bakersville, NC and 1 brother, Henry A. Wagner of Middletown, DE.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family at R. T. FOARD & JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 13, 2002. Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Mon. Oct. 14, 2002 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts Council, Inc., 501 S. College Ave., Newark, DE 19713 or to the Second Chance, Temple Chapter, 182 Conover Rd., West Windsor, NJ 08550.

Mike Gilley

Age 47, died suddenly at home on October 9, 2002.

Mike worked on the assembly line at Chrysler for 18 years and retired in 1994. He loved music especially playing his guitar. He also enjoyed his computer.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Gilley, who died in June 2002. He is survived by his wife of five years, Diane L. Gilley of Wilmington; his father, Earl Gilley of Perryville, MD; his brothers, Wayne Gilley of Newark, and Doug Gilley of Rising Sun, MD; his sisters, Jackie Duffy of Perryville, MD, and Margaret Gilbert of Rising Sun, MD.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend he service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Pkwy., New Castle on Tuesday, Oct. 15th at 11:45 a.m. Friends may call at the chapel after 11 a.m. Friends are also welcome to call Monday evening, Oct. 14th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere. Interment in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Ursula A. Kirwin

Age 77 of Wilmington, DE died Sunday, October 6, 2002, in the Franciscan Care Center Brackenville.

Mrs. Kirwin was a dietician for the State of Delaware retiring in 1987 after 38 years of service. She graduated from Immaculata College Class of 1946.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael P. Kirwin who died in 1993 and her sister Elizabeth Jeanne Winkler. She is survived by her sons, Michael D. Hill of Durham, NC, M. Thomas Kirwin of Wilmington, DE and Eugene P. Kirwin of Newark, DE; sister, Mary Louise Bradley of Wilmington, DE; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th St. and Bancroft Pkwy, on Thursday morning, October 10 at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOMES, 1900 Delaware Ave., Wilmington on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Hall, John Earl

John Earl Hall, 89, East Division Street, Dover, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at KGH Bay Health Dover.

He was born on November 02, 1912, in Milford Nick, DE to Raymond and Inez (Fitzgerald) Hall, Sr.

Earl was a Division Manager for Sears for many years, he also was a farmer in the Frederica area for many years. He was a member of Peoples Church in Dover.

He is survived by Wife, Josephine Gladys Hall of Dover, DE. Brother, Cloude Wilson Hall of Dover, DE. Sister, Anna Mae Salevan of Dover, DE. Sister, Emma Catherine Neeman of Camden/Wyoming, DE.

Remembrance Services will be held Friday 08/30/2002 01:00 PM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery Camden, DE

Friends and Family may call also Friday one hour before the time of service.

Minnie A. "Millie" Buggy

Age 82, of New Castle, DE, formerly of E. Brunswick, NJ died Sunday August 25, 2002 at home with her family.

Mrs. Buggy was born in Elizabeth, NJ and worked for Brunswick Rubber Co. in Deans, NJ retiring in 1962 after 25 years.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas E. Buggy; her stepson, John McDevitt and his wife Susan of Bear, DE; her brother Louis Wisniewski of Roanoke, VA; her step grandchildren Jessica, Lauren, Ryan, Sean and Connor McDevitt and her step great grandson Cameron McDevitt.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, DuPont Hwy, New Castle, DE on Thursday morning, August 29 at 10 am. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington, DE (302-652-6811) on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm.
