JULY 8, 1938 -- MARCH 24, 2005

DELEON SPRINGS -- Leroy Feaster, 66, of Dundee Avenue, who worked on a fern farm, died Thursday at Lake Butler Medical Center, Lake Butler.

Mr. Feaster was a native of DeLand and lifelong resident of the area.

Survivors include a son, Rolando Small, DeLand; seven daughters, Annie Ward and Cathy Fabian, both of DeLeon Springs, Diana Jordan and Carla Ramirez, both of DeLand, Betty Sanchez, Orange City, Rose Smith, St. Petersburg, and Kristy Wilson, Columbia, S.C.; five brothers, Johnny and Marion, both of DeLand, Hayward and Morris, both of St. Petersburg, and Willie, Georgia; three sisters, Deloris Feaster, Daytona Beach, Mary Ashford, DeLand, and Bessie Hayward, Deltona; and 17 grandchildren. Unity, DeLand, is in charge.

Philip Galarneau

SEPT. 11, 1943 -- MARCH 25, 2005

DEBARY -- Philip Gregory Galarneau II, 61, of Florence Boulevard, a machinist, died Friday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Galarneau, a Navy veteran, was born in Portland, Maine, and moved to this area in 1993 from Windham, Maine.

Survivors include three sons, Philip III, Craig and Scott, all of Maine; his parents, Philip and Faith Galarneau, Zephyrhills; a brother, Preston, Yarmouth, Maine; two sisters, Sandra Thibodeau, Bokeelia, and Althea Gaumont, Saco, Maine; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Earl Griffith

MARCH 6, 1918 -- MARCH 27, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Earl R. Griffith, 87, of Enterprise Avenue, the former owner and operator for 10 years of Club 13, Mansfield, Ohio, died Sunday at the Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Griffith, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Mansfield, and moved to this area in 2001 from Avon Park. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17, New Smyrna Beach, the Pinecrest Golf Club, Avon Park, and the New Smyrna Beach Municipal Golf Course. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He enjoyed painting, fix-up and building projects.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen; a son, Jerry, Lexington, Ohio; two daughters, Beverly Hendricks, New Smyrna Beach, and Trudy O'Brien, Durango, Colo.; a brother, Carl, Fort Mead; a sister, Anna Lautzenhiser, Mansfield; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Tri-County Cremation, Longwood, is in charge.

Florence Harris

DEC. 5, 1928 -- MARCH 28, 2005

DELAND -- Florence L. Harris, 76, of Maple Hill Drive, who retired as a needle processor after 23 years with Sherwood Medical, died Monday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

A native of New York City, Mrs. Harris moved here in 1972 from Moriah, N.Y. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Society.

Survivors include three sons, Kevin, DeLand, Ronald, Port St. Lucie, and Dale, Queensbury, N.Y.; three daughters, Leslie Kersey, DeBary, Joni Jones, Lake Helen, and Starla Davis, Lake Worth; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

William Lathan

MAY 16, 1909 -- MARCH 25, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- William L. Lathan, 95, of Village Trail, who retired after 15 years at Arabian American Oil Co., Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Lathan, a Navy veteran, was born in Duluth, Minn., and moved to this area in 2004 from Sarasota. He enjoyed golf and bowling.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth, Port Orange; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Florida Division, P.O. Box 13600, Tampa, FL 33681-3600. National Cremation Society, Melbourne, is in charge.

Clark Mac Kendrick

APRIL 14, 1918 -- MARCH 26, 2005

DELTONA -- Clark G. Mac Kendrick, 86, of Newmark Drive, who retired as executive vice president of Fishbach & Moore Electric, West Palm Beach, died Saturday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Mac Kendrick, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, who served as a radio-man, gunner and co-pilot on B-24 bombers, was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He moved to this area in 1990 from West Palm Beach. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 323, and the Masonic Lodge. One of his last projects with Fishbach & Moore was the construction of the power plant in Pinnelas County. Mr. Mac Kendrick enjoyed hunting and fishing on the Florida River.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Mary; a son, Keith, Bristol; a daughter, Marlea Mac Kendrick-Harden, Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Kevin Mahoney

MAY 21, 1951 -- MARCH 23, 2005

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Kevin Mahoney, 53, of Nova Road, a City of Daytona Beach employee, died Wednesday at home.

Mr. Mahoney was born in Lawrence, Mass., and moved here from Montana in 1994. He enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include his mother, Audrey Mahoney, Lake Helen; two brothers, Frank, Deltona, and Paul, Salem, N.H.; and a sister, Ellen Watson, DeLand. Alavon Direct Cremation is in charge.

Hilda Mertens

SEPT. 21, 1917 -- MARCH 27, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Hilda W. Mertens, 87, of Red Bud Lane, a native of Longwood, Wis., died Sunday at Southland Suites Assisted Living Facility.

Mrs. Mertens, a homemaker, moved here in 2004 from West Allis, Wis., where she was a member of St. Augusta Catholic Church. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, football and baseball games.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Wetsell, Ormond Beach, and Susan Vaughn, Washington, Ill.; a sister, Evelyn Bruss, Milwaukee; and nine grandchildren. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Max O'Dell

JAN. 8, 1919 -- MARCH 23, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Max D. O'Dell, 86, of Morning Dew Trail, a retired independent petroleum landman, died Wednesday at Wellington Place.

Mr. O'Dell, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, was born in Pittsburg, Kan., and moved to this area in 1986 from Albuquerque, N.M. He was also a former petroleum landman for the Phillips Oil. Co. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, the Landman's Association and Daytona Beach Country Club. An avid golfer, Mr. O'Dell won many golf tournaments over the years.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bernis; a son, Mark Roy, San Francisco; a daughter, Rebecca Sidor, Ormond Beach; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Volusia County Junior Golf Association, co Marilyn Lindley, 53 Fairway Circle, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168, or to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Eloisa Perez

DEC. 28, 1906 -- MARCH 26, 2005

DELTONA -- Eloisa Perez, 98, of Swiss Lane, a resident since 1998, died Saturday at DeBary Manor, DeBary.

Ms. Perez, a homemaker, was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and moved to this area from the Bronx, N.Y. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and the outdoors.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Sanchez, Deltona, and Maximina Sanchez, New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. and three great-great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Asher Pressman

JAN. 27, 1921 -- MARCH 26, 2005

JACKSONVILLE -- Asher Pressman, 84, of Jacksonville, a Palm Coast resident from 1984 to 2004, died Saturday at River Garden.

Mr. Pressman, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Philadelphia. Before his retirement, he worked as a doctor of optometry in Allentown, Pa.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Gladys; three sons, David, Los Angeles, Arthur, East Dennis, Mass., and Jeffrey, Oakland, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Craig Funeral Home, St. Augustine, is in charge.

Roland Proper

JUNE 15, 1948 -- MARCH 26, 2005

DELAND -- Roland D. Proper, 56, of Pine Bluff Avenue, a salesman for Middleton Pest Control, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Proper, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Japan, and moved here from Orlando in 1990. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Jana; two stepsons, Mark Luther, Deltona, and Wade Luther, Orlando; two brothers, Scott Wyse, Sanford, and Chris Proper, Dothan, Ala.; a sister, Kathy Visser, Houston; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Robert Stanford

JULY 16, 1932 -- MARCH 27, 2005

HOLLY HILL -- Robert Lee Stanford, 72, of 15th Street, a retired cleaning service owner and operator, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Stanford was born in New Albany, Miss., and moved here from Sebring in 1980. An Eagles and Moose member, he enjoyed fishing, board games and animals.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Barbara; four sons, Johnny, South Florida, Robert Jr., Lake Placid, and Jimmy and Howard, both of Eustis; two daughters, Kay Price, Eustis, and Margaret Archer, Lake Placid; a stepson, Dallas Merritt III, Gulf Breeze; two stepdaughters, Debbie Upp, Apopka, and Penny DeVane, Lake Placid; four brothers, Eugene, Holly Hill, Tommy, Jasper, Ga., Eddie, Cherokee, Ala., and Bill, Arab, Ala.; two sisters, Lucy Ellis and Dorothy Duke, both of Bartow; 13 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
