SIMMONS, Leon A., 53, of Riverview, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon E. Simmons. Survivors include, his mother, Wilma Simmons; two brothers, Steve and Mark Simmons; grandmother, Erma Egnor; nephew, Daniel Simmons; two nieces, Amiee and Michelle Simmons, all of Riverview, Fla. A native of Tampa, Fla., he lived in Riverview for 30 years. A memorial service will be held at Stowers Riverview Chapel, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at 6 p.m. Flowers are acceptable or those who wish may make contributions to the American Heart Foundation or Muscular Dystrophy in Leons memory.

SKILES, Robert B., 71, of Brandon, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at the VA Hospital. A native of Avon Lake, Ohio he was a resident of the area since 1977. He was a retired watchmaker and a Disabled Korean War Army Veteran. He was a member of the Brandon Ham Radio Club. Survived by his wife, Gay; sons, Dennis of Smyrna, Tenn., James of Seffner, Robert and Joseph, both of Tampa; daughters, Peggy Miles of Seffner, Bonnie Primer of Washington , D.C. and Donna Whitaker of Brandon; brother, Richard of Astor, Fla.; sisters, Carol Dicken of Rices Landing, Pa., Martha Kozlowski of Euclid, Ohio, Judy Brown of Brunswick, Ohio and Betty McNiece of Astor, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, William and sister, Arleen Kostura. Funeral ser vices will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. WISMAN, Helen J., of Tampa passed away November 3, 2002. She was a descendant of the Florida pioneer Coller and Haskins families and was predeceased by her parents, Ruby Phillips Gaddis and Eugene Hitt. She is survived by her husband, Ronald W. White and her cousins. A graveside service will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 10 a.m. Wednesday officiated by her cousin, Rev. Bill Prior.

WITMER, John A., 67, of Plant City, Florida passed away of cancer on, Monday, Nov. 11, 2002. His is survived by his wife of 25 years, Janet Merz Witmer; his son, John and his family Jane Lynch Witmer, Jackson, Grant, and Noah; and his son, Scott and his family, Carey Hull Witmer, Kendall, Emmett, and Hayden. He was born in Philadelphia, and he and his mother spent his youth following his father, who was in the Army, around the world. He was a graduate of the United States military Academy (West Point) class of 1957. John was a Honorary Life Member of Rotary International and a proud member of the Republican Party. He was involved in his community as a volunteer in many areas. At the time of his death he was teaching Mathematics at several different Universities. Graveside services will be in Belleville, Illinois at Walnut Hill Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002. The family request memorials be made to the West Point military Academy Alumni Association.

CATTERSON, William E., 48, of New Port Richey, passed away November 11, 2002 at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. He was born October 25, 1954 in New York City, N.Y. and came here 18 years ago from Lodi, N.J. He was a member of Calvary Chapel Worship Center in New Port Richey and a chef at The Eagles Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a son, Ryan of New Port Richey; and a daughter, Tara, also of New Port Richey. Visitation will be Friday from 12-2:00 p.m. with the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

CONTIN, Jeffrey W., 41, of Hudson, passed away Monday, November 11, 2002 at his residence. Born in Huntington, New York, he came to Florida in 1978 from Commack, New York. He was a Truck Driver for Walden-Greene Construction Co. in Port Richey, Fla. Jeffrey served in the US Air Force and was a Christian. He is survived by two brothers, Brian Contin of Hudson and Dennis Contin of Spring Hill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call Thursday, November 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Bell Funeral Home, 7532 State Road 52, Hudson, Florida. Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.

HILDEBRAND, John C., 90, of New Port Richey, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at Community Hospital in New Port Richey. Born in Montezuma, Iowa, he moved here from Marion, Iowa in 1982. He was a Supermarket Manager for 32 years. He served in the Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lois; two sons, Rick Hildebrand of Marion, Iowa and Jim Hildebrand of Plainfield, Ind.; a brother, Leslie Hildebrand of Grinnel, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. HINOJOSA, Marcelina Mendez, 66, of Lyons, Ga., formerly of Dade City, died November 9, 2002 in Lyons. Survivors include five daughters; five sons; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at St. Rita's Catholic Church on Wednesday (Today) at 2:00 p.m. with Father Ramon Hernandez officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Memory Gardens.

HOFFMAN, Clair K., 89, of Dade City, died November 10, 2002 at Hospice Care Center in Dade City. Born in Millerstown, Pa., and moved to the area in 1976 from North East, Pa. He was a retired Certified Public Accountant in Erie, Pa. after 35 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge, both in North East, Pa. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Hoffman of Dade City; two sons, John Hoffman of Green Valley, Ariz. and Charles Hoffman of Dade City; daughter, Mary Choisser of Orange Park, Fla.; four grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

HUGHES, Gladys M., 85, of New Port Richey, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center, New Port Richey. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts and moved to New Port Richey from Rockville, Conn. in 1974. She was a retired legal secretary after 60 years of service. Gladys was a member of the Altar Guild and former Council member and Secretary for King of Glory Lutheran Church in New Port Richey. Survivors include her niece, Edna Braun of Randolph Center, Vt.; and sister-in-law, Shirley Carlson of Mashpee, Mass. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2002 from 2-4 p.m. at Dobies Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, November, 14, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at King of Glory Lutheran Church. Burial following at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens.

NETOPSKI, Karen A., 51, of Holiday, passed away at Community Hospital, New Port Richey on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. Born in Fairfield, Conn. She came here 13 years ago from Williamantic, Conn. She was a banquet server at Innesbrook and a Roman Catholic. She is survived by two sons, Steve of Olkdale, Conn., and Thomas of Holiday, Fla.; one daughter, Carrie Netopski of Holiday; a companion, David King of Holiday; a brother, Charles Morrissey of Danbury, Conn.; two sisters, Linda Hendricks of Largo, Fla., and Sue Troidle of Virginia and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, 5228 Trouble Creek Rd., New Port Richey, Fla.

NICHOLS, Elbert, 61, of Lacoochee, died Monday, November 11, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice House in Dade City. A native of Alliance, Fla., he moved to this area in 1960 from Riverview. He was previously employed at P & H Dairy in Zephyrhills and was Baptist. Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Nichols of Lacoochee, Janice Swartfiguer of Stillwater, N.Y. and Robin Nichols of Lacoochee; a son, Nathan Nichols of Dade City; a brother, Ernest Nichols of Newborn, Ga.; two sisters, Inez Creech of Dade City and Laurette Sanford of Lakeland; his mother, Flora Ethel Nichols of Lakeland; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home on Thursday, November 14, 2002. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, (Today) November 13, 2002. Burial will be at Geiger Cemetery in Zephyrhills.

PENIX, Robert L., 82, of Dade City, died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at Pasco Regional Medical Center. A native of Eastman, Georgia, he moved to Dade City in 1946. He was employed at Richland Farms and was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. Survivors include two stepsons, Clarence Sims and his wife Adele of New York, and Bobby Lenton of Georgia; his children, Katheren Southward and her husband Billy, and Lenola Penix, both of Dade City, Delores Penix of New York, Roberta Penix, Cheryl Wermack and her husband, Wayne, Robert Penix, Jr. and his wife Felecia, all of Dade City, Marilyn Comacho and her husband Jose of Chicago, Alvin Penix and his wife Deina of Tampa, Robin Penix and her husband Clinton of Dade City, Mark Penix and his wife Geneva of Zephyrhills, and Bernard Penix and his wif e Janet, stationed with the military in Greece; a sister, Amanda Smith of Tampa; two brothers, Morris Penix and his wife Eunice of Dade City, and Curtis White of Dade City; 38 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and his children's mother, Essie Mae Penix. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Parrie Penix, and by a brother, William Penix. Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2002. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2002.

PORTER, Josephine Morris, 86, of New Port Richey, passed away on November 10, 2002 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey. Born in Louisa County, Va., she moved to Florida in 1988 from St. Francisville, Louisiana. She was a retired confidential secretary for Stone & Webster in St. Francisville after 12 years. She was a member of Seven Springs Ladies Golf Association in New Port Richey and a Methodist. She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth M. Vaughan of Louisa, Va. and Jean G. Morris of Williamsburg, Va.; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. National Cremation Society, New Port Richey, Fla.

SIMS, Gerald Lee, 53, of Lacoochee, died Monday, November 11, 2002 at home. A native of Auburndale, Fla., he was a long time resident of the Dade City area. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Brenda; four sons, Randy Sims, Danny Sims, Jeffery Sims and John Sims, all of Dade City; two daughters, Sharon Garza and Jennifer Garza, both of Dade City; three sisters, Penny Doster of Dade City, Elizabeth Doster of Lake Panasoffkee, and Brenda Farley of Arcadia; two brothers, Carlo Sims of Ohio and William Sims of Georgia; and eight grandchildren, Brendon, Melisa, and Michelle Garza, Jessie, Alex, Joshua, Justin and Danny Lee Sims, Jr., all of Dade City. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Sims. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Hodges Family Funeral Home on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 7 p.m. with Pastor June Reinke officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

SISSON, Margaret P., 85, of Zephyrhills, died Thursday, November 7, 2002 at East Pasco Medical Center. Born in New York she moved to this area 34 years ago from New York. Margaret was the widow of Leland Sisson and daughter of the late, Moses and Bertha Ferguson. She is survived by a son, Robert Elliot and his wife, Christine; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sisson was a housewife and a Lifetime member and Charter member of the Walden Ambulance Corp. A Memorial service will be held for Mrs. Sisson on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Oakley Funeral with Pastor George White officiating.

VAUGHAN, Alice W. 91, of Holiday, died Monday, November 11, 2002 at Manor Care of Palm Harbor. She was born in Yonkers, New York and moved to Holiday from Harrison, N.Y. in 1971. She was a retired secretary/bookkeeper for Emil Toikka Building Contractors in Darien, Conn. after over 10 years of service. Alice was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in New Port Richey, a member of Forest Hills Civic Association in Holiday and a member of Forest Hills Women's Club in Holiday. Survivors include two sons, Gerald A. Vaughan of New Port Richey and Matthew H. Vaughan of Woodbury, Conn; daughters, Ellen V. Datesh of Palm Harbor; five granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 from 5-7 p.m. at Dobies Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Memorial donations may be made to any local Hospice organization.

ARCHER, Cecilia L., 72, a resident of Tampa, passed away Monday, November 11, 2002 at her son's residence in Jacksonville Beach. She was born in Cudahy, Wisconsin on November 1, 1930 and she came to the Tampa Bay area about 40 years ago. She was a homemaker and was of the Catholic Faith. Survivors include her husband, Robert Archer Jr. of Tampa; son, Robert Archer III of Auburn, California; son, Michael Archer of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; brother, Robert Wood of Cudahy, Wisconsin; sister, Gloria Tubbs of Cypress, California; and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250.

CARNES, Dr. Joseph John Ph.D., of Sun City Center died Nov. 10, 2002 in South Bay Hospital. Born on August 3, 1917 in Rock Island, Ill., Joseph grew up in Rock Island and graduated from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa. He received his Masters degree and a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Joe married Carol Bennett on July 29, 1942. He worked for American Cynamid (now Cytec) in Stamford, Conn. from 1943 to 1967, as both a chemist and an executive. He subsequently became Vice-President of the New England Institute in Ridgefield, Conn., from 1967 until he retired in 1975. In 1979 Joe and his wife Carol moved to Apollo Beach, Fla., sailing their newly acquired sailboat down the Intercoastal Waterway to their new condominium. Joe thoroughly enjoyed sailing his boat around Tampa Bay for many years. In 1997, Joe and Carol moved to the Courtyards in Sun City Center, Fla. Joe is survived by his wife, Carol; his five children: daughters, Patricia Iacurci, Judith Cohan, Virginia Chase and Eileen Foster of Conn., and son, David Carnes of Everett, Wash.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lewers Funeral Home.

CARTWRIGHT, Jr., Charles Cluster `Chuck`, 58, of Tampa, died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at his home. He was a 1962 graduate of Bay High School and a 1967 graduate of University of Southern Mississippi where he received a degree in communications and public relations. He was a retired public relations executive with Cox Target Media in Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of the Univ. of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association, the Eagle Club, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Garrett Cartwright of Oldsmar, Fla.; two sons, David Cartwright of Washington , D.C., and Daniel Cartwright of Clearwater, Fla.; two aunts, Glenna Ward and Lillian Garrett; uncle, Donald Garrett and wife Donna, all of Lynn Haven; and friend, Steve Myers of Ft. Myers, Fla. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.
