Duvaughn Nunnally, 64

Mr. Duvaughn Nunnally, 64, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, at the Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville, GA.
He was a native of Tattnall County and a self - employed truck driver for Coastal Wood Products. He was a member of St. James AME Church in Glennville.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Rosetta Nunnally; two daughters, Linda Jean (Ricky) Arthur and Angela (Ron) Burgess; one sister, Odessa (Freddie) Marshall; four grandchildren and two great - grandchildren. Four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at King and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2008, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James AME Church. Interment will follow in the Glennville City Cemetery. You may sign the guest book at www.kingbrothersfh.com.

Howard C. Alexander, 81

Mr. Howard C. Alexander, 81, passed away Friday morning, May 30, 2008, at the Camilla Health Rehabilitation Center in Claxton. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of his life. He was a US Army Veteran and a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jarriel Alexander.
He is survived by his daughter and son - in - law, Leigh A. and Louis Keith of Pooler; a son and daughter - in - law, Gary and Kathy Alexander of Collins; two grandsons, Eric Keith and Ashley Christopher Keith of Grovetown, GA; two great - grandchildren, Cooper and Carsyn Keith of Grovetown, GA; nephew, Billy Alexander of Collins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Chancey officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Camellia Health & Rehabilitation, 700 East Long St. Collins, GA 30421.

Sharon Cox Bland, 67

Sharon Cox Bland died peacefully in her sleep on June 1, 2008, at Hospice Savannah after a long illness.
She was born on May 12, 1941, and was the only child of Craig and Mildred Schieder Cox who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her special cousins Betty Tootle, Janice Tootle, and Sue Tootle.
She was a graduate of Wesleyan College, having attended the University of Michigan and Memphis State University Law School.
She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church where she taught the Tommy Thomson Sunday School Class for ten years. She was an adult education teacher for several years and was a member of the Reidsville Book Club, Common Cause, and the Democratic Party.
Sharon was a wordsmith, having written beautiful poetry and prose. She was an advocate for animals, especially dachshunds. In 1985, she and her husband founded Recovery Place of Savannah.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Bland of Savannah; her children, son Stephen Bland and his wife Terri of Snellville, GA; daughter Robin Autry and her husband Dan of Thomasville, GA; daughter Carlyn Maddox and her husband Mark of Thomasville, GA; and her nine grandchildren: Summer Bland, Savannah Bland, Justin Tolbert, Gene Autry III, Sharon Lillie Autry, Carlyn Rose Autry, Johnny Autry, James Maddox and Ava Maddox. She is also survived by an aunt, Sulee Schieder of Claxton, GA; in - laws, Pam and Jack Robertson and Jane and Clifford Randall; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating her life was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Reidsville United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with a reception and lunch immediately following for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Reidsville United Methodist Church P.O. Box 218, Reidsville, GA 30453; Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416; the American Diabetes Association, P. O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312; the Jimmy Carter Center, One Copenhill, 453 Freedom Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30307; the Tattnall County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 25, Reidsville, GA 30453 or to the charity of your choice.

Frank Rex Blocker, 44

Frank Rex Blocker, 44, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a short illness. He was employed with Pump Components of Savannah, loved fishing, spending time with family and friends and was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Doretha Blocker.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his wife of 17 and a half years, Joyce Blocker of Glennville; step - daughter and son - in - law, April and Ted Logan and step - son and daughter - in - law, Jathan and Mandi Metcalf, all of Winder, GA; sisters, Charlotte Blocker DeLoach and companion Frank Benton of Bellville and Hettie Jane Blocker of Glennville; granddaughters, Ketelyn Lee and Brianna O’Neal of Winder; grandsons, Tyler Logan, Kie and Broiden Metcalf; four step grandchildren; mother - in - law Jean Hall, all of Winder; nieces, Rhiannon and Danielle DeLoach, both of Claxton; and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Elder Hugh Thompson officiating. A private burial will follow at a later date.

Ouida Cheney, 81

Ouida Cheney, 81, of Dawsonville died at her home on May 30, 2008, surrounded by her family. Born in Cobbtown, GA, on August 5, 1926, Ouida was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Stephens and Maudie Hall Stephens as well as her husband of 57 years, Paul Ray Cheney Sr.
She was raised and graduated from high school in Tattnall County, GA, before training as a Cadet Nurse for the U.S. Army at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta.
Ouida is survived by Paul Ray Cheney Jr. and wife Holly with granddaughter, Lubya; daughter in law, Jean Balderson Cheney with grandson, Scott Cheney and wife Laura; granddaughter, Kate Cheney Davidson and husband, Mark; Diane Cheney Harrell and husband Buddy with grandsons, Mark Harrell and wife Niki, Greg Harrell and wife Emily with great granddaughter Addison; Stephen Roger Cheney and wife Terri with grandsons, Grayson and Christopher; Cynthia Cheney Ray and husband Richard with grandsons Ryan, Dylan and Kevin.
Ouida was a founding member of both St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Dunwoody where she remained a member. She was a retired registered nurse who ran her own business, Sun - Ray Supply, from her home until her death. She has been a property owner in Dawson County since 1965 and a resident since 1990. She is remembered by her friends and family as a strong woman who was devoted to her family, direct with her opinions, and always trying to help others in need.
A memorial service was held on Monday, June 2, at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church in Cumming, GA., and interment services were held Tuesday, June 3 at Reidsville City cemetery in Reidsville, GA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to United Hospice, your local hospice, or your favorite charity.

Stanley Coley, 51

Stanley Coley, 51, of Glennville, passed away into eternal rest on June 1, 2008, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was a member of First African Baptist Church in Glennville.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy (Tyrone) Simmons of Baxley, GA; his mother, Mrs. Emmaretta Coley of Glennville, GA; two brothers, Eddie Coley of Hinesville, GA and Edward Coley Jr. of Glennville, GA; three grandchildren; four aunts and two uncles and a host of other relatives.
No local funeral services will be held and burial will take place at a later date at the Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Glennville.
McWhite’s Funeral Home of Ft. Lauderdale, FL is in charge of the arrangements.

Reverend Mr. Lee Jones, 81

Reverend Mr. Lee Jones was born October 6, 1926, in Evans County, (Bellville) Georgia, and was the second child of six children to the late Albert “A.B” Jones and Ezia Butts Jones. He entered into eternal rest on June 2, 2008, in Statesboro Georgia at the Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Lee attended the public schools and graduated from Evans County High School. He attended Savannah Tech where he was certified as an electrician; received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Savannah State University and a Master of Divinity from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of Palen United Methodist Church in Savannah. He served in the US Army oversees in the Korean War. Lee was active in the Black Methodist for Church Renewal organization (BMCOR) where he received numerous awards. He was a charted member of the Gladiators where he served as president for many years. Lee was also a Mason.
He was licensed as a United Methodist minister in 1971 and ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1978. During his ministerial career he served the following churches: Reidsville Circuit, St. Andrews/Horse Creek, Speedwell UMC, Savannah, Statesboro Circuit, and Nepsey/Warren. For five years he served as chaplain at the Dublin V.A. Medical Center. In 1990 Reverend Jones was appointed by Bishop Richard C. Looney as the first African - American District Superintendent in the South Georgia Conference. He served faithfully for six years as District Superintendent of the Statesboro District.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Wilma Mobley Jones; two brothers, Reverend Lloyd Jones and Robert Jones; and one sister Jaunita Benjamin.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Jones; and three daughters, Faye Ketch, Augusta, GA, Freddie Baldridge (Rivers), Cleveland, Ohio, and Robin (Torre) Davis of Elkridge, MD; one son, Robert [Bobby] (Wanda) Jones of Douglasville, GA. He was also blessed with children, Flecia (Gary) Mosley, Daryl Lewis Mosley (Nikki), Reuben (Nacardia) Lewis III.
Lee leaves a beloved spouse, Mrs. Mary Louise Jones of Collins, GA; two sisters, Luretha Tillman and Nita B. Baker, both of Claxton, GA; and sister - in - law, Thelma Jones of Macon, GA; sister - in - law, Bernice (Reverend J.D. Upshaw), of Columbus, GA; two goddaughters, Audrey Lewis (Quelman), Patricia Peeples (Aaron); nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at Pittman Park United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 5 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Jimmy Cason presiding, and Reverend Joseph Robertson, Eulogist.
Interment: Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Groveland, GA, with repast following.

Susie Barrow Odom, 93

Susie Barrow Odom, 93, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing Home. A native of Evans County, she had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Odom and an infant daughter, Irene.
She is survived by daughters and sons - in - law, Martha Rogers of Glennville, Margie and John Bowen of Glennville and Janie Frances and Odell Pate of Hawsville, KY; son and daughter - in - law, Alex and Martha Odom of Savannah; three grandchildren, Ashlea Rogers of Roswell, Timmy Bowen and Cindy DeLoach of Glennville; three great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, 2008, sfrom the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, GA, with Reverend Jerry Knight officiating. Burial followed in the New Bethel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Timmy DeLoach, Larry Kennedy, Timmy Bowen, Chad Kennedy, Shane Brannen and Clint Durrence.

Roy L. Anderson, 56

Roy L. Anderson, age 56, of Grayson, GA, died on July 12, 2008, after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife, Jan Hicks Anderson; children, Kevin Noel Anderson and Leland Blake Anderson both of Grayson, GA; daughter - in - law, Jessica Anderson of Madison, GA; grandchildren, Kylie Lucia Anderson, Amelia Leone Anderson, William Noel Anderson, all of Madison, GA; brothers and sister - in - law, Harry Anderson of Vidalia, John Anderson of Lyons, and Roger and Shelley Anderson of Gaston, SC; sister and brother - in - law, Carol and Chuck Parrish of Vidalia, GA; brother - in - law and wife, Len and Lana Hicks of Americus, GA; sister - in - law and husband, Carole and Jack Wintle of Duluth, GA and several nieces and nephews.
He was born in Claxton, GA on July 30, 1951, to Raymond Monroe Anderson and Margaret Carolyn Barrow Anderson. He graduated from Reidsville High School and Georgia Perimeter College. He served in the United States Army and was an avid fisherman and golfer. One of the proudest moments in his life was being able to attend college. Roy’s greatest joys were his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Carolyn Anderson and a sister, Mary Joyce Conaway.
The service celebrating the life of Roy L. Anderson was held Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Corinth Christian Church, with Reverend Don Hardison and Reverend Lester Waters officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Those desiring may make donations to the Corinth Christian Church Bus Fund in memory of Roy L. Anderson.
