LILLIAN M. SCHLEGEL

BLOOMFIELD - LILLIAN M. SCHLEGEL, age 77 of Osage Beach, Missouri and former Bloomfield resident died February 8, 2006 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, Missouri. She was born icon July 18, 1928 in Davis County, Iowa to Charles C. and Dova Rees Dilliner. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1947. She was a homemaker and worked at Max Reno Realty and Stan Rogers Realty. She married icon Dr. William H. Schlegel January 3, 1974 in Memphis, Missouri. She had been a resident of Osage Beach since 1998. She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church and was a member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bloomfield for 60 years.

She is survived by her husband; 2 sons Rudy Willingham and Thomas Willingham both of Osage Beach, Missouri; a daughter Linda Taylor of Eldon, Missouri; a step daughter Dona Goettsche of Drakesville, Iowa; a step son Cree Schlegel of Agency, Iowa; 5 granddaughters; 5 great grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren and a nephew Cody Barnett of Bloomfield, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Janet Barnett and a brother Joe Dilliner.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 AM Saturday February 11, 2006 at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Family visitation will precede the service from 9:00-11:00 AM at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Iowa. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the Avenue of Flags at the IOOF Cemetery.

BETTE JEAN CARY

BLOOMFIELD - BETTE JEAN CARY, age 78 of Bloomfield died February 6, 2006 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. She was born icon November 10, 1927 in West Grove, Iowa to Lloyd and Lelia Walker Southern. She was a lifetime resident of Davis County and worked for the City of Bloomfield and the Davis County Hospital. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Moulton and the Moulton Christian Church.

She is survived by 2 daughters Esther (Mike) Cantrell of Bloomfield, Iowa and Jeanie (Bill) Norton of Rose Hill, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 4 brothers Richard Southern of Moulton, Iowa, Russell and Jim Southern both of Newton, Iowa and Roy Southern of Moline, Illinois and 2 sisters Beatrice French of Moravia, Iowa and Edith Singley of Moulton, Iowa

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Friday February 10, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Kramer Smith officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Thursday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to her family.

LESLIE CHARLES SAVAGE

BLOOMFIELD - LESLIE CHARLES SAVAGE, age 63 of Bloomfield died February 6, 2006 at his home in Bloomfield. He was born icon August 11, 1942 in New Hampton, Iowa to DeVere L. and Virginia C. Waller Savage. He married icon Mary Quirk May 26, 1961 in LeGrand, Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force. He had been a resident of Bloomfield since 1989 and worked in the auto parts department at Bloomfield Ford for 8 years.

He is survived by his wife; 3 daughters Lori Savage of Clear Lake, Iowa and Diane Savage and Peggy Sue Ludwick both of Des Moines, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; a great grandson and 2 sisters Joanne Wilkinson of Naranja, Florida and Jeanette Duncan of Tabor City, North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Douglas Savage.

The body has been cremated. Graveside services will be held a later date at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of the arrangements.

GLADYS K. GOODE

BLOOMFIELD - GLADYS K. GOODE, age 95 of Bloomfield died February 2, 2006 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born icon October 16, 1910 in Pulaski, Iowa to Roy G. and Mollie Lantz King. She was a lifetime resident of Davis County and married icon Dean Goode June 5, 1932 in Pulaski, Iowa. He preceded her in death August 16, 2001. She was an elementary school teacher for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Retired Teachers Association, Chapter Q TTT and Chapter B PEO.

She is survived by a son Philip Goode of Longmont, Colorado; a daughter Gladeane Lefferdink of Boulder, Colorado; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters Florence King Walton and Hazel Viola King.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday February 7, 2006 at the Bloomfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield. PEO Services will be at 6:30 PM Monday followed by family visitation until 8:00 PM. Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and the Pulaski Mennonite Church.

DONNA L. DOWELL

OTTUMWA - DONNA L. DOWELL, age 62 of Ottumwa and formerly of Cantril, Iowa died February 1, 2006 at her daughter’s home in Ottumwa. She faithfully fought MS since the age of 21. She was born icon April 8, 1943 in Davenport, Iowa to Elmer D. and Thelma Cutler Haskell. She married icon Keith E. Dowell August 13, 1961 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She was a CNA in Keosauqua. She was a member of the American Legion in Van Buren County and was a member of the Ottumwa Seventh Day Adventist Church.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter Sherry (Richard) Dowell-Babcock of Ottumwa, Iowa; 2 sons John Dowell of Cantril, Iowa and Keith D. (Traci) Dowell of Collegedale, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; 3 brothers Eugene Haskell of Seymour, Iowa, Richard Haskell of Clinton, Iowa and Jackie Haskell of Lawton, Oklahoma and 3 sisters Rose Loose of Blue Grass, Iowa, Shirley Bishop of Columbia, Missouri and Deanna Nicoli of Kingdom City, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother David Haskell and an infant sister Mary Lou Haskell.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday February 6, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastors Jeff Dowell and Mike Carner officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM Monday February 6, 2006, in the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour, Iowa. The family will be present for visitation from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday at the Wagler Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to her family and the Multiple Sclerosis Society and may be mailed to the family at 1009 E. Plum Ottumwa, IA 52501.

THOMAS A. SWAIM

UNIONVILLE - THOMAS A. SWAIM, SR., age 61 of Unionville, Iowa died January 22, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, Iowa. He was born icon November 17, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa to W.W. “Butch” and Mary Martha Doughtery Swaim. He was owner of the Vine Street Nugget in Ottumwa and was a social member of the American Legion in Ottumwa.

He is survived by his fiancée Mary Lammert of Unionville, Iowa; 2 sons Thomas Swaim, Jr., of Bloomfield, Iowa and Scott Swaim of Drakesville, Iowa; a daughter Marta Davis of Ottumwa, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and a sister Emelie Springer of Ottumwa, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday January 26, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. A memorial has been established to Hospice, Inc.

BILLY “BILL” L. FRY

BLOOMFIELD - BILLY “BILL” L. FRY, age 80 of Bloomfield died January 22, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born icon August 13, 1925 in Davis County, Iowa to Roy and Ida May Fultz Fry. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He married icon Darlene Rupe May 24, 1969 in Bloomfield, Iowa. She preceded him in death March 10, 2004. He was a lifetime resident of Davis County. He was a carpenter and worked at Bloomfield Lumber for several years. He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield and was a member of Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield and the Bloomfield Country Club.

He is survived by 2 sisters Betty Fountain of Bloomfield, Iowa and Judith Thorne of Sante Fe, New Mexico and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers Bob, Gene and Roger Fry and a sister Christine Bain.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday January 24, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield will be at the Dunnville Cemetery in Davis County, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Monday with the family present from 6:00-7:30 PM. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Country Club.

LADDIE D. ARCHER

TROY - LADDIE D. ARCHER, age 78 of Troy, Iowa died January 16, 2006 at the Davis County Hospital Long Term Care in Bloomfield. He was born icon February 22, 1927 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Ansell Wade and Anna LaNore Hill Archer. He married icon Willadean L. Helmick January 2, 1947 in Mark, Iowa. She preceded him in death March 31, 1999. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a farmer and cattleman and founder of the Trojan Hill Farms. He was a member of the Troy United Methodist Church, Davis County Cattleman’s Association, a past member of the Davis County Pork Producers and was a lifetime member of the American Angus Association. He also served on the Troy School Board for 3 years, the Davis County School Board for 9 years and had been a 4-H leader.

He is survived by 4 sons Curtis (Judy) Archer of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Doug (Donna) Archer of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Phillip (Kristi) Archer of Bloomfield, Iowa and Darryl (Rosa) Archer of Pulaski, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; a sister Lois Moughler of Kahoka, Missouri; a brother Dennis Archer of Ottumwa and a special companion Evelyn Lough of Bloomfield, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday January 19, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Donna Olinger officiating. Burial with graveside military rites by Reed Whisler Post #78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield, will be in the Troy Cemetery in Troy, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday with the family present from 6:00-8:00 PM. Memorials have been established to Davis County Dollars for Scholars and the Troy United Methodist Church.

M. COLLEEN VORHIS

BLOOMFIELD - M. COLLEEN VORHIS, age 73 of Bloomfield died January 14, 2006 at the Bloomfield Care Center. She was born icon September 26, 1932 in Stiles, Iowa to Arlo F. and Ora Gordy Shook Jones. She married icon John Frick in 1948, he preceded her in death. She married icon C. Dalton “Red” Vorhis August 9, 1973 in Drakesville, Iowa. He preceded her in death December 5, 2001. She had been a realtor and had worked at Sylvania in Burlington for 24 years. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Hospital Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star in Burlington.

She is survived by 2 sons Robert Frick of Burlington, Iowa and Jim Frick of Colchester, Illinois; a daughter Susan Grove of Burlington, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother Martin Shook of Bloomfield, Iowa and 4 sisters Rowena Fletcher, Crystal Webb and Molly Williams all of Lake Placid, Florida and Lorraine Simmons of Bloomfield, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Monday January 16, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 1:00-9:00 PM Sunday. The family will be present for visitation from 1:00 PM Monday until the time of the service. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield Care Center.

JACOB WILLIAM “BILL” LORTON

MILTON - JACOB WILLIAM “BILL” LORTON, age 90 of Keosauqua and former Milton resident died January 1, 2006 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, Iowa. He was born icon February 1, 1915 in Van Buren County, Iowa to Jacob Otto and Minnie Mary McDaniel Lorton. He married icon Winifred “Winnie” Teter July 13, 1933 in Memphis, Missouri. She preceded him in death November 25, 2005. He was a farmer and had worked at the Armstrong Tire Company in Des Moines, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Milton Christian Church.

He is survived by a son Gary (Kay) Lorton of Bloomfield; a daughter Shirley (Charlie) Gandy of Altoona, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a great granddaughter; 2 brothers Lawrence and Thomas Lorton and 3 sisters Margaret Lewandowski, Ruth Lorton and Alice Newcomb.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday January 5, 2006 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Joanne Schlegel officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM Wednesday with the family present from 6:00-7:30 PM. A memorial in lieu of flowers has been established to the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center.
