Jerald Kelly

Jerald Michael Kelly died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at his home in El Paso, Texas, after an extended illness.

Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline.

Helen Stone
Helen D. Stone, 91, of Langman Apartments, Milan, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Private family burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Moline, where she was a member.

Helen was born Feb. 18, 1912, in Moline, daughter of Bruce and Ruby Wright. She married Earl Stone May 6, 1930, in Clinton, Iowa.

She was employed at the former East Moline State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1967.

Helen enjoyed bowling, traveling and Broadway musicals during her early retirement years. During her later years, she enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino and, being an avid reader, spent a lot of time with her books and going to Borders Book Store.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Doris Stone, Rock Island, and Lawrence and Ramona Stone, East Moline; grandchildren, Steven Hefley, Richard Hefley, Kathryn Stone, Robert Stone, Larry C. Stone, Lisa Stone, Rhonda Stone and Bryan Stone; and several great-grandchildren. Her husband, her parents and a brother, Walter, preceded her in death.

Terry `Bassman' Bryner
Terry 'Bassman' Bryner, 59, of Kewanee, died June 24, 2003, at Royal Oaks Health Care Center, Kewanee.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Kewanee. Cremation rites will be accorded. The family will receive condolences after the service. Arrangements are by Rux, Kewanee.

He was born July 28, 1943, to Donald and Darlene Bryner.

Survivors are his wife, Cheryl; son, Donald Bryner, Omaha, Neb.; daughters, Ruth Ann Barnes, Diana Bryner and Sherianne Bryner, all of Kewanee, Wendy Stanley, Lombard, Ill.; six grandchildren.

Lyle Freeze
Lyle B. Freeze, 81, of Humble, Texas, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in Humble.

Arrangements are pending at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Melvin Godat
Melvin E. Godat, 60, of Erie, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Chancy Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn cemetery . Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Godat was born July 22, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo., son of Harry and Rhoda Pinkston Godat. He married Gail Zastrow Bealer May 13, 1989, in Clinton.

He served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He had been employed at Alcoa, Riverdale, Iowa, for the past 25 years.

Melvin was a member of Chancy Lutheran Church and Erie Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and enjoyed all of nature.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Tami Ploog, Clinton, and Crystal Bealer, Erie; sons, Todd Godat, Tom Godat and Curtis Bealer, all of Clinton; eight grandchildren; and brother, Richard Godat, Park Hills, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.

Robert Miller
Robert 'Bob' Miller, 73, of Galva, died June 23, 2003, at St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Rux, Galva. Burial is in Galva cemetery . Visitation is 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Kewanee. He married Dorothy Petty in September 1950. She died in November 1957. He married Alvina Bevard Aug. 22, 1959, in Galesburg.

Surviving are his wife; children, Robert Miller, Lesley Hillan, both of Galva, David Miller, Springfield, Ill., and Michelle Smith, Galesburg; four grandchildren; one aunt; and two nephews.

Walter Spiegel
Walter T. Spiegel, 82, of Kewanee Care Home, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at the home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. The Rev. David Poe of St. Peter's Evangelical United Church of Christ, Kewanee, will officiate. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

He was born Nov. 24, 1920, in Kewanee, son of Ernest F. and Elsa F. Schiller Spiegel. He was reared and educated in Kewanee. He was employed at Kewanee Works Walworth Co. and later the Mail-o-Graph, Kewanee, prior to his retirement.

He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Kewanee.

Surviving are several cousins. His parents preceded him in death.

Harold Kearney
Services for Harold J. Kearney, 80, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Davenport, are 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline.

Visitation is 11:30 a.m. to services. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, is handling arrangements.

He died Monday, June 23, 2003, in Topeka.

He was born Aug. 9, 1922, in DeWitt, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth Sullivan Kearney.

Survivors are sister, Margaret McGivern, Davenport; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Kearney, Davenport; 20 nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

Robert Kress
Robert L. Kress, 80, of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Benjamin Steckel
Benjamin Steckel, 86, of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at his home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, where further arrangements are pending.

Nelda Winn
Nelda M. Winn, 93, of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. to services.

She was born Jan. 11, 1910, in Hamlet, Ind., to George and Margaretha Laumeier Wepner. She married Frank E. Winn March 16, 1927. He died Sept. 15, 1980.

Surviving are her daughter, Marjorie Kerns, Davenport; grandchildren, Michele Kruse, Davenport, Kip Makeever, Saugus, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Brust
An additional survivor for Kenneth W. Brust, 62, of Mountain View, Calif., is a daughter, Marcella Walter, Youngstown, Ohio.

Katrena Drewes
Katrena J. Drewes, 75, of Moline died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at her home.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, with the Rev. Stacie Fidlar officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Katrena was born July 20, 1928, in Kewanee, the daughter of Clell and Abbigail Parker Harrelson. She married Herman 'Frank' Drewes May 29, 1949, in Rock Island.

Katrena was a homemaker and enjoyed china painting. She was a member of the King's Daughters. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island, the Two by Two Club of the church, and Fidelia Society.

Survivors (and spouses) include her husband; children, Laurie (Alan) Ford, Rock Island, Jeff (Carol) Drewes, St. Louis, Mo., and Brian Drewes and Brent Drewes, both of Moline; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Janet (Stanley) Woods, Moline.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother and sister.

Eugene King
Eugene P. King, 62, of Moline died Thursday at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie.

LaVerne Bell
LaVerne Bell, 72, of New Windsor died Sunday, July 27, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident in Ontario, Canada.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial is in Hopewell cemetery , rural New Windsor, with military rites conducted by New Windsor American Legion, George Norris Post 484.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to New Windsor American Legion, Hopewell cemetery or Tri County Ambulance.

He was born April 2, 1931, in Monmouth, the son of John and Verlie Kell Bell. He married Maryan Graff Dec. 21, 1952, in Joy.

He farmed his whole life in the Joy and New Windsor areas. He was a Marine in the Korean War.

He served on the Winola School Board for two terms and was a member of the New Windsor American Legion, George Norris Post 484. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Maryan; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Teresa Bell and Scott and Julie Bell, all of Viola; grandchildren, Mike, Tim, Emilee, Ashlee and Chad Bell; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Kathy Bell, Aledo.

Jerry Bethell
Jerry Bethell, 54, of League City, Texas, formerly of Monmouth, died Friday, July 25, 2003, at home.

Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time. A memorial fund has been established for a memorial plaque at Monmouth High School All-Weather Track Athletic Field.

He was born Dec. 27, 1948, in Rock Island to Ed and Betty Kick Bethell Sanderson. He married Judy Hawk in 1972 in Monmouth.

He was a Vietnam War Army veteran. He was a carpenter in construction.

Surviving are his daughter, Carrie (Baukary) Traore, Monmouth; two grandchildren; his mother, Monmouth; sisters, Linda Cox-Lee, League City, and Judith Fengel and Janet Goad, both of Monmouth; four nieces, and two nephews.

Harold `Shorty' Parker
Harold C. 'Shorty' Parker, 80, of 208 4th Ave. S., Albany, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Garden Plain cemetery , rural Fulton. There is no visitation. A memorial fund has been established.

He was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Fulton to Clyde and Belle Holcomb Parker. He married Nova Crumbacher Dec. 16, 1977, in Morrison.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was an over-the-road truck driver, retiring in 1987.

Survivors are his wife, Nova Parker; and son, Harold, and sister, Mary London, both of Colorado.
