Nancy Martin

Nancy L. Martin, 73, of Montrose, died Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2003, at the Montrose Health Center. Funeral services are pending at Greaves Mortuary in Keokuk.

Paul D. Rynell

The graveside memorial funeral service for Mr. Paul Duane Rynell, 69, who died Sunday, August 10, 2003, will be today at 1:00 PM at Walnut Grove Cemetery , Media, IL. Friends may gather at Lunning Chapel and plan to leave at 12:30 PM for the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Partners for Conservation Foundation, P.O. Box 714, Burlington, IA 52601.

Mary Shovar

Mary W. Shovar, 89, of Davenport, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus in Davenport.

Born Dec. 29, 1914, near Plea–sant Grove, she was the daughter of William C. and Hannah Moehlman Stucker. On Aug. 17, 1945, she married James H. Shovar in Los Angeles. He died Oct. 16, 1995.

Mrs. Shovar taught school until 1939, when she moved to Davenport to attend the American Institute of Commerce. While going to school, she worked at the original Bishop's Cafeteria in Davenport. In 1942 she moved to Los Angeles and worked for the L.A. Times. She worked at Orange County newspapers from 1943 to 1950, then was a librarian for many years.

She was a 1931 graduate of Danville High School, and attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She loved books and reading. After moving to Edgington, Ill., she helped establish a library at Andalusia, Ill., and wrote "Home on the River," a history of Andalusia.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Schultz of Moline, Ill., and M. Nicolette Shovar of Danville, Calif.; two sons, Patrick Shovar of Andalusia and Scott Shovar of Davenport; eight grandchildren; one great–grandchild; one step–great–grandson; and one brother, Dwight Stucker of Danville.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport.

Celebration of Life services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2136 Brady St., in Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island, Ill.

A memorial has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Delzell D. Dietsch

The funeral service for Mr. Delzell Duane Dietsch, 80, who died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, will be today at 1:00 PM in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Robert Kreuger will officiate. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery . Friends may call after 8:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial has been established for Our Savior Lutheran Church.

C. Lorraine Pfau

The graveside funeral service and interment for Miss Clara Lorraine Pfau, 78, who died Wednesday, August 13, 2003, will be today at 10:00 AM in Aspen Grove Cemetery . The Rev. Terry Vance will officiate. There will be no visitation. A memorial has been established for Burlington Care Center.

James McCarl

James Edwin "Jim" McCarl, 69, of Montrose, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

Born Oct. 4, 1934, in Osceola, he was the son of James Monroe and Maxine Catherine James McCarl.

Mr. McCarl worked at Metromail Corp. from 1969 to 1987. He then worked at the Henry County Health Center. He retired in 1991.

He attended school in Osceola. Following his education, he made his home in Toledo. He was a Korean War and Vietnam War Army veteran, serving as a climate control specialist. He was discharged in 1967 as a sergeant. He moved to Mount Pleasant following his Army service. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed watching all sports on TV.

Survivors include two brothers, William McCarl of Minooke, Ill., and Frank McCarl of Montrose; one sister, Gloria McCarl Jewett of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mr. McCarl will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home, with Chaplain Robert Koepcke, campus minister of Iowa Wesleyan College, officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Veterans Groups of Henry County will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Garry W. Mehaffy

The Celebration of Life for Mr. Garry W. Mehaffy, 53, who died Saturday, August 14, 2004, will be Wednesday, August 18th at 5:00 PM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel will officiate. Inurnment will be in Long Creek Cemetery , Rural Danville, at a later date. Friends may call after 8:00 AM and the family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the time of service on Wednesday. A memorial has been established for The Road 2 Recovery Foundation (MOTOCROSS/SUPERCROSS), 28150 N. Alma School Pkwy., No. 103/136, Scottsdale, AZ 85262. Following services Mr. Mehaffy's body will be cremated per his wishes.

Marian R. Fritz

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Marian Ruth Fritz, 79, who died Monday, August 16, 2004, will be at 10:00 AM Friday, August 20th, in Sts. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church of West Burlington. Reverend Father Patrick Hilgendorf will be the Celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in West Burlington. Friends may call after 8:00 AM, there will be a 3:00 PM Rosary and the family will receive friends following a 6:30 PM Christian Wake Service until 8:00 PM Thursday, August 19th, in Lunning Chapel. A memorial has been established in her memory.

Zada "Sue" Luers

The funeral service for Mrs. Zada "Sue" Luers, 74, who died Tuesday, August 17, 2004, will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 21st, in Lunning Chapel. Pastor Christopher Roepke will officiate. Interment will be in Latty Cemetery , rural Burlington. Friends may call after 8:00 AM and the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, August 20th, in Lunning Chapel. A memorial for Concordia Lutheran Church has been established.

Mary Fry

Mary Elizabeth Fry, 82, of Burlington, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.

Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Glasgow, Ky., she was the daughter of Jackson and Willa Louis Peden Slaton. On Feb. 6, 1944, she married Maxwell Sherman Fry in Fallon Co., Ark. He died March 18, 1994.

Mrs. Fry was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church. She was a member of Kings Daughters, Red Cross, United Way and the Salvation Army.

Survivors include a son, William J. Fry of Burlington; a daughter, Jackie L. Archibald of Burlington; three grandsons; two great–grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Visitation will be Monday at Prugh's Chapel where the family will receive friends between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Fry will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Edith Wilmesmeier

Edith P. Wilmesmeier, 70, of Lomax, Ill., died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Ill.

Born Dec. 7, 1934, in Lomax, she was the daughter of Louis Samuel and Anna Pearl Wilkerson Dietsch. On Dec. 4, 1978, she married Paul Edward Wilmesmeier Jr. in Raritan, Ill.

Mrs. Wilmesmeier was a laborer, retiring from Sheaffer Pen Co.

She was of the Nazarene faith. She enjoyed shopping, cooking, cats and traveling.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Anna Boyles of Mount Pleasant and Kris Schnedler of Mediapolis; four grandchildren; two great–grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Gnagy of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Dorothy Gualtieri of Dallas City, Ill.; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel. The body has been cremated.

The memorial service for Mrs. Wilmesmeier will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Randy Gearhart officiating.

A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association.

Jane Cahill

Jane E. Cahill, 78, of Burlington, died at 9:19 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Great River Medical Center.

Born March 20, 1926, in Sutherland, she was the daughter of George William and Lucy Grace Boyer Engelke. On June 15, 1948, she married William S. Cahill in Sutherland.

Mrs. Cahill was an English teacher at Burlington High School for 25 years.

She attended St. Paul's Catholic Church and was a member of Burlington Book Club, Christian Women's Club and Birthright of Burlington. She was also a Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include her husband, William of Burlington; three daughters, Susan J. Cahill of Burlington, Laura C. (Michael H.) Rees of Whitefish Bay, Wis. and Maureen V. (Paul W. Michel) Cahill of Burlington; two sons, William J. (Karen A.) Cahill and John M. (Deb) Cahill both of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Levi Cahill, Denton Cahill, Will Cahill, Michael Rees, Ben Cahill, Evan Cahill, Katie Rees, Elizabeth Rees, Anne Rees and Johnna Cahill; one great–grandson, Jaxsen Cahill; and one brother, William Engelke of Sutherland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Rebecca Stewart and Olive White.

Friends may call at Prugh Funeral Service after 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Catholic Church from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening, where there will be a Christian wake service at 6 p.m. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.

The funeral for Mrs. Cahill will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery , with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating.

A memorial has been established for Birthright of Burlington and Classics Lending Library at Burlington Community High School.

Larry D. Gillette

The memorial funeral service for Mr. Larry Dale Gillette, 65, who died Wednesday, February 23, 2005, will be today at 10:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Donald Hoornstra will officiate. Inurnment will be in Grandview Cemetery , Grandview, IA. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Hospice of Metro Denver.

Shirley L. Poindexter

The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Shirley L. Poindexter, 78, who died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, will be today at 2:00 PM in First Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Terry Vance will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery . The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service at the church. A memorial has been established.

Laura R. Gibbs

The funeral service for Ms. Laura Robbie Gibbs, 39, who died Thursday, March 3, 2005, will be Monday, March 5th, at 1:00 PM in Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Sharon Cemetery on J48, rural Farmington at 3:30 PM. Friends may call after 1:00 PM on Sunday, March 6th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for Tyler's education.

Mildred M. Davis

The funeral service for Mrs. Mildred M. Davis, 95, who died Friday, March 4, 2005, will be Friday, March 11th, at 11:00 AM in Lunning Chapel. The Revs. David Nash and Tom Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery . Friends may call from 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 10th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Jerry Horn

Jerry Lee Horn, 66, of Lomax, Ill., died at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Ill.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

The graveside service for Mr. Horn will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Harmony Township Cemetery near Bentley, Ill.

A memorial has been established.
