ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for Rae I. Bolis, formerly of Aledo, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Grove Cemetery , Taylor Ridge. Mrs. Bolis died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, in Northridge, Minn. Family Funeral Services, Milan, is in charge of arrangements. She was a homemaker. Rae Reed was born March 28, 1909, in Muscatine, Iowa. She married William Bolis in 1926 in Rock Island. He died in 1984. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association. Survivors include a daughter, Imo "Tootie" Lane, Brooklyn Center, Minn.; a son, James H., Rock Island; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank Reed, Moline.

Robert Kaufmann
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Robert F. Kaufmann, of 2015 Bidwell Road, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Mr. Kaufmann died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was involved in farming, livestock and trading. He was a member of Muscatine County Board of Supervisors from 1970 to 1975 and more recently a member of the board of directors at Wilton Bank for more than 30 years. He was born April 29, 1915, in Muscatine County. He married Myrta Sywassink in 1939 in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospital for Children. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Anne Olson and Kay Walter, both of Muscatine, and Mary Suttles, of South Carolina; a son, Fred, Muscatine; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and sisters, Lucile Graham, Cocoa, Fla., and Helen Ridge, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Herbert Ivey
CLINTON, Iowa -- Herbert L. Ivey, of 330 16th Ave. S, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center-North Campus, Clinton. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery , Clinton. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. He retired in 1972 as an operator at Clinton Corn Processing. He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in St. Joseph, Mo. He married Anna Lundeen in 1943 in Clinton. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen Powers, Clinton; a son, Stephen, Camanche; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Merle, St. Joseph.

Marion Jones Sr.
GENESEO, Ill. -- Services for Marion P. Jones Sr., of Geneseo, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Jones died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He retired in 1977 as a baker after 28 years at Harvest Day Bakery. He was born April 15, 1912, in Tahlequah, Okla. He married Anne Thomasson in 1937 in Lokeba, Okla. During World War II, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Violet Gibbons, Andover, Bonnie Bodin, Cambridge, Ella Brown, Rock Island, and Donna Brown, Colona; sons, Marion "Phillip" Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Robert, East Moline; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Stilley, Muskogee, Okla., Alzy Leisner, Wagner, Okla., and Georgia Zenor, Chandler, Ariz.; and a brother, Harold, Muskogee.

Leona Murphy-Verkruyse
KEWANEE, Ill. -- Services for Leona B. Murphy-Verkruyse, of Kewanee, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. She died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. She was employed 30 years as a nurse's aide at Wasson Nursing Home, Galva, and Galva Manor. She also had worked at Lily-Tulip, Galva. Leona Johnson was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Kewanee. She married Lawrence "Pat" Murphy in 1938 in Kewanee. He died in 1955. She married William Verkruyse in 1970 in Galva. He died in 1991. Memorials may be made to Henry County Senior Citizens Center, Kewanee. Survivors include daughters, Mary Rule, Tulsa, Okla., and Karen Hepner, Galva; a son, Robert Murphy, Geneseo; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mildred Ording and Katherine Hilton, both of Kewanee.

EAST MOLINE -- Services for Mary L. De Blieck, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mrs. De Blieck died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. She was a homemaker. Mary DeCoene was born Sept. 13, 1912, in East Moline. She married John Joseph De Blieck on April 19, 1932, in East Moline. Memorials may be made to the church or Visiting Nurses and Homemakers Association of Western Illinois. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Donna Erickson, Orion, Ill., and Carol Janssen, Rock Island; sons, Craig, Merideth, N.H., and Gary, Moline; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Govearts, Union Grove, Wis.

Dorothy Buikema
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Dorothy M. Buikema, of Clinton, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Buikema died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton. She had worked at Jim Walters Co., Camanche, and One-in-Hand Tie Co., south Clinton. Dorothy Nelson was born May 12, 1921, in Davenport. She married Raymond Buikema in 1942 in Clovis, N.M. He died in 1995. Survivors include a son, Gary, Clinton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Hulten, Mission, Texas.

Robert Hill Jr.
CASCADE, Iowa -- Memorial services for Robert Hill Jr. will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cascade Protestant Cemetery . Military services will be conducted by Cascade American Legion Post 528. Dr. Hill, a retired professor at Ball State University, Muncie, Ind., died June 19, 1999, in Muncie. Meeks Mortuary, Muncie, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Dorris; a son, Gregory J., Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren.

James Elifson
CLINTON, Iowa -- James B. Elifson, of 530 11th Ave. S., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at his home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military services. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday at Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory, Clinton, and one hour before the service Saturday at the church. Mr. Elifson was employed as a route salesman and bread truck driver at Continental Baking Co./Wonder Bread. He retired in 1980. He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Oconomowac, Wis. He married Elna Munson in 1946 in Oconomowac. During World War II, he served in the Air Force. Memorials may be made to the church or Mercy Hospice. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jane Marlowe, Clinton; sons, Harold, St. Petersburg, Fla., and John, Lutz, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Robert Driscoll
PRESTON, Iowa -- Services for Robert "Bob" Driscoll, of Preston, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery , Preston. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the church, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Driscoll died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton. Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, is in charge of arrangements. He had owned and operated Bob Driscoll Hardware with his wife since 1941. He was an auctioneer for 40 years and was a partner at Maquoketa Sale Barn for 10 years. He was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Preston. He married Hazel Dalton in 1936 in Preston. Survivors include his wife; sons, Norman, Arlington, Texas, and Steven and Brian, both of Preston; seven grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Driscoll and Helen Leonard, both of Clinton, Sara "Sally" Kilburg, Loretta Campbell and Phebe Neuman, all of Preston, and Betty McLaughlin, Durango, Colo.

Darlene Blackert
PROPHETSTOWN, Ill. -- Services for Darlene J. Blackert, of 28654 E. 2700th St., will be 11 a.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church, Hooppole. Burial will be in Hooppole Cemetery . Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at the church and one hour before the service Friday. Mrs. Blackert died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at her home. Gardner-Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Prophetstown, is in charge of arrangements. Darlene Anderson was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Prophetstown. She married Gordon Blackert in 1947 in Hooppole. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Christy Blackert, Davenport, and Candice Hairgrove, Morton; sons, Kent, Prophetstown, and Kevin, Atkinson; seven grandchildren; her mother, Florence Anderson, Morrison; and a brother, Eugene, Rock Falls.

Frances Cone
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Frances E. Cone, of East Moline, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a rosary recited at 8 p.m. Mrs. Cone died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. She retired in 1977 after 30 years at the former Servus Rubber. Frances Cant was born Aug. 14, 1918, in East Moline, to August and Virginia (DeBock) Cant. She married Charles L. Van De Voorde. He died in 1974. She married Dean Cone on Dec. 26, 1975, in Moline. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Msgr. Cleary Hall Building Fund or for Masses. Survivors include her husband; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Kent Arp, Davenport, Paula and Jim Maltby, Silvis, Ill., Karen and Greg Poquet, Moline, and Teresa and Bill Witter, Coyne Center, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and a sister, Leona Hutten, Moline. She was preceded in death by a brother, Camiel Cant; and a sister, Mary Pysson.

Richard Turnquist
MILAN, Ill. -- Richard Lee "Rick" Turnquist, Ph.D., of Milan, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at his home. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Ascension Chapel of Augustana College, Rock Island. Burial will be in Persilla Watts Cemetery , Rugby, N.D. He had been employed at Augustana College, Rock Island, since 1974, acquired his tenure in 1980 and had held a full professorship since 1990. He was born Aug. 12, 1944, in Rugby, to Archie A. and Mildred G. (Thorsen) Turnquist. He received his bachelor's degree in 1966 from Concordia College, Morehead, Minn., and his doctorate in biology in 1971 from Logan University, Utah. In 1985, he was awarded the Jahke Award for service to Augustana College. He served as premedical advisor and biology chair at the college. He was an avid bowler and had bowled two 300 games. He was an avid golfer and had an interest in flight and Civil War history. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Leigh Turnquist, Moline; his mother, Mildred Turnquist, Rugby; and an aunt, Vivian Scott, Hemet, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Duane.

Emily Siegel
MAQUOKETA, Iowa -- Services for Emily L. Siegel, of Maquoketa, formerly of Andrew, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem Lutheran Church, Andrew. Burial will be in Andrew Cemetery . Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Mrs. Siegel died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa. In 1948, she helped organize the Andrew Community Schools hot lunch program. She was the program director and head cook for 24 years. She also was employed as a clerk at Mohlenhoff's Grocery Store and Bowman's Meat Locker, both in Andrew. Emily Daudel was born July 3, 1909, in Andrew. She married Amil Siegel in 1934 in Andrew. He died in 1973. Memorials may be made to Emily L. Siegel Memorial Fund. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Crawford, Cedar Rapids; sons, Paul, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Dr. Duane, Modesto, California; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Edrie Phillips
MORAVIA, Iowa -- Services for Edrie G. Phillips, of Harlan, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, Moravia. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Schmidt Funeral Home, Centerville. Mrs. Phillips died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Myrlie Hospital, Harlan. She taught school 13 years in the Centerville/Moravia areas. She was born Jan. 20, 1909, in Wahoo, Neb. She married Harry Phillips in 1940 in Centerville. He died in 1967. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Survivors include daughters Jan Davitt, Harlan, and Rosemary Ziskind, Falls Church, Va.; sons, Glen, Raleigh, N.C., and David, Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Reba Packard, Charlottesville, Va., Ardis Walter, Moravia, and Glee Dayton, Perry; and a brother, Dale Callen, Des Moines.

Mildred Clover
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Mildred I. Clover, of Marshalltown, formerly of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, in Marshalltown. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church, Muscatine. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery , Hartley. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine, with the family present 7-8 p.m. Mrs. Clover was employed as an elementary teacher. She taught third and fourth grades. Mildred Pfeiffer was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Nelson, Neb. She married Everett Clover in 1918 in Nelson. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the church. Survivors include a son, Burt, Marshalltown; three step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

James Vargus
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- James D. Vargus, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. He was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Cotter. He married Nova Hooper in 1942 in Muscatine. She died in 1998. During World War II, he served in the Army. He received the Purple Heart. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Survivors include a daughter, Noni Hovey, Muscatine; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Josephine Gray, Marie Martin, Alberta Martin and Lenora Kirk, and brothers, David and Joe, all of Muscatine.

Lilah Barko
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Lilah E. Barko, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1999, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Mrs. Barko retired at age 87 after 20 years at Baskin Robbins. Before that, she worked at Muscatine Pearl Works and Huttig Manufacturing Co. Lilah Hanson was born Feb. 6, 1909, in Mahtowa, Minn. She married Andrew Barko in 1931. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Beverly Garvin, Muscatine; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Yerly, Denver, and Virginia Borgen, Mahtowa.

Robert Meyer
KAHULUI, Hawaii -- Robert E. Meyer, of Kahului, died Oct. 1, 1999, at Kahului Hale Makua. Services will be 11 a.m. Oct. 12 at Maui Veterans Cemetery . Nakamura Mortuary, Wauiluku, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Meyer was employed as an ammunition tester at Rock Island Arsenal. He was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Dubuque, Iowa. During World War II, he served in the military. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Rosalie Yoshida, Kahului; two grandchildren; a sister, Marie Wolbers, Davenport; and a brother, Louis, of Arkansas.
