DAVENPORT -- Services for Orval L. Sampson, of Davenport, will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Runge Mortuary and Crematory. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Mr. Sampson died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. He was employed by Del Rich Battery Metal, Davenport for 15 years. He was born Dec. 8, 1951, in Mason City, Iowa. He married Joyce Foell in 1970. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary Essary, Davenport; two grandchildren; his mother, Marjorie Arnold, Davenport; his step-father, Arland Arnold, Davenport; sisters, Debbie Jones, Mason City, and Marybeth Stamp, Glenwood, Iowa; and brothers, Ronnie, Mason City, Mickey, Sacramento, Calif., Tommy, Sioux City, Iowa, and Danny, Sherman, Texas.

Michael Gravitt Sr.
DAVENPORT -- Michael W. Gravitt, Sr., of Davenport, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Services will be noon Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Visitation is two hours prior to the funeral. He was employed by Deere and Company in grounds maintenance at the administration building for 28 years. He was born April 19, 1943, in Rock Island. He married Jean Curry in 1986 in Rock Island. A memorial fund will be established in his name. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Melissa Miller, Duluth, Georgia; a son, Michael Jr., Chicago; three step-daughters, Stacey Nielsen, Rock Island, and Tracey Anderson and Jeanie Shumaker, both of Davenport; 10 grandchildren; his parents, of Coal Valley; sisters, Janice Seibert, Moline, Barbara Swanson, Orion, Marge Maddox, Coal Valley, and Sandy Metzner, Little York, Ill.; and a brother, Richard, Coal Valley.

Donald Sluss
WEST BRANCH, Iowa -- Donald Sluss, of West Branch, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following an extended illness. Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Bastian, Va. The body has been cremated. Barker Funeral Home, West Branch, is in charge of arrangements. He was born July 10, 1945, in Bastian, Va. Survivors include sisters, Norma Wolf, Bland, Va., and Connie Dill, of North Carolina.

Harold Larsen
WEST LIBERTY, Iowa -- Harold R. Larson, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at his home. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty. Visitation is 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday. The body has been cremated. He had been employed with Thatcher Glass, Muscatine, retiring in 1991. He was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Iowa City. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Army. Memorials may be made to the Muscatine County Humane Society. Survivors include daughters, Barb Irwin, West Liberty, and Roxanne Tupy, Nichols; stepsons, Leonard Herlein, Iowa City, and Dale Ross, Moscow; a sister, Frances Seymour, Houston; and 11 grandchildren.

Arthur Zimmerman
DAVENPORT -- Services for Arthur H. Zimmerman, of Davenport, formerly of Moline, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenview Memorial Gardens Chapel, East Moline. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., Moline. Mr. Zimmerman died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Manor Care, Davenport. He retired in 1974 from International Harvester-Farmall Works, Rock Island, as a laborer in the Receiving Dock after 30 years of service. He was born Dec. 18, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Church, Moline. Survivors include a sister, Marvel, Minneapolis; and brothers, Herbert, Yellowknife, North West Territory, Canada, and Stanley, Whiting, Ind.

Warren Stineman
GRANDVIEW, Iowa -- Services for Warren N. Stineman, of Grandview, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Grandview Community Bible Church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery . Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Mr. Stineman died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at the University Hospitals, Iowa City. He farmed and sold Funks G Hybred Seed Corn. He was a licensed Insurance Adjuster, and owner of Stineman Insurance since 1959. He was born March 23, 1930, in Muscatine. He married Phyllis Wright in 1952 in Morning Sun. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home for the Grandview Community Bible Church and the Grandview Visionary Committee. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Cindy Miller, Blue Grass, and Debra McCallope, Des Moines; a son, John Collet, Grandview; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Florence Schaver
MORRISON, Ill. -- Services for Florence L. Schaver, of 609 W. Lincolnway, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church, Morrison, preceded by a family prayer service at the church. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Mrs. Schaver died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at her home. She retired in 1979 after 30 years with General Electric, Morrison. Florence Milroy was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Sterling. She married Peter Schaver in 1957 in Morrison. Memorials may be made to the church or Rock River Valley Hospice. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda Snyder, Morrison; sons, James Eads, Thomson, and Robert Eads, Richlands, N.C,; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

Lester Smith
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Lester R. "Smitty" Smith, of Zephyrhills, Fla., will be 11 a.m. Saturday at George M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home, Muscatine. Visitation is 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park. Mr. Smith died Saturday, April 17, 1999, in Zephyrhills. He owned and operated a garage, Smitty's, in Muscatine until his retirement in 1991. He had also worked at Henderson's Garage. He was born Oct. 27, 1915, in West Liberty. He married Mary Zimmerman. He married Margy McCoy in 1973 in Van Buren, Mo. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; a son, Neil Smith, England; stepdaughters, Christine Voguel, Darla Hills, and Marcy Schell, all of Muscatine, and Dorene Chatfield, Zephyrhills; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn Tompkins, Calao, Mo., and Dolores Hansen, Rochester, Iowa.

Godelieve Raymond
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Godelieve "Goldie" Raymond, of Silvis, Ill., formerly of East Moline, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, where she was a member. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be recited at 7 p.m. Mrs. Raymond died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at her home. Goldie had worked at the former Licorice Factory and American Air Filter, both of Moline, and John Deere Mallable, East Moline. Godelieve Claeys was born Oct. 9, 1911, in Dentergen, Belgium, to Camiel and Elisa "Meetie" (De Smet) Claeys. She married Joe Raymond Sr. on Nov. 26, 1932 in Chicago. He died Aug. 8, 1987. Mrs. Raymond was a member of East End Bolders Club, Moline. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Joann and Chuck Daniels, Hampton, Ill., and Mary Lou and Dr. Edward Kean, East Moline; a son, Ronald Raymond, Silvis; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Raymond Jr.

Robert Stewardson
EAST MOLINE -- Services for Robert N. Stewardson, of East Moline, will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday in Glenwood Cemetery Shelbyville, Ill., where military honors will be held. Mr. Stewardson died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill. He owned and operated the Okaw Auto Supply Co. in Shelbyville. After moving to the Quad-City-area, he worked as an executive vice president for Republic Investors, retiring in the mid 1970's. He then opened the Yankee Woodshed and worked out of his home in East Moline. He was a member of the Confederate Air Force , the E.A.A. and a 33rd Degree Mason. He enjoyed woodworking and was very "nifty". He loved his children and grandchildren. Mr. Stewardson was born August 2, 1920 in Shelbyville, the son of Lawrence and Cleda (Zimmer) Stewardson. He married Virginia Hite on Feb. 17, 1946 in Shelbyville. During World War II, he served in the Air Force. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Ronald Stringer Sr., Streamwood, Ill.; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Elizabeth Stewardson, Omaha, Neb., and David and Cindy Stewardson, East Moline, Ill.; grandchildren, Ronald Jr., Cory, Stephanie, Andrew, Krista, Robert, Eric and Jeffery; and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Beulah Stewardson, LeMesa, Calif. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lynn Stewardson.

Debbie Munden
DAVENPORT -- Debbie Kay Munden, of Davenport, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. She was a nurse with Vera French Mental Health Care Center. She was previously a nurse at the former Mercy Hospital for many years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport, and Gilda's Club. She participated in Race for the Cure, and was a volunteer at Lutheran East Side Mission. She also taught Sunday school. She was devoted to her daughter. Debbie Munden was born Dec. 15, 1952, in Davenport, the daughter of Robert L. and Shirley (Kahl) Munden. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund. Survivors include a daughter, Johanna Cathleen Munden, Davenport; parents, Robert and Shirley Munden, Davenport; aunts; uncles; several cousins; and special friends, Deb Lundeen, and Lana Linehan. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Eric and her grandparents.

Gary Verkruysse
PORT BYRON, Ill. -- Gary G. "Crunch" Verkruysse, of Port Byron, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, from injuries suffered in an auto accident in Portland Township. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery . Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Verkruysse was employed as a foreman with Portland Truck Sales, Prophetstown. He was born March 3, 1952, in Morrison. He married Laurie Ernst in 1984 in Port Byron. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include sons, Larry and Richard "Richie," both of Port Byron; his father and stepmother, Stanley and Evelyn Verkruysse, Erie; sisters, Deborah Cooper, Lyndon, Rita Musch, Loves Park, Ill., Tina Conrad, Erie, and Eula Winger, Fenton; and a brother, Marty, Erie.

David Buikema
ALBANY, Ill. -- Services for David R. Buikema, of 306 N. Bluff St., will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Albany, preceded by a 1:15 p.m. family prayer service at the church. Burial will be in Lusk Memorial Cemetery , Albany. Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the Fulton Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Mr. Buikema died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport. He retired in 1972 after 31 years with International Harvester Co., East Moline. He had also worked at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling. He was born March 23, 1914, in Fulton. He married Sylvia Burns in 1937 in Clinton, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the church or Albany Ambulance Association. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Marilyn Gooch, Albany, and Wanda Naftzger, Layton, Utah; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Wilma Dykstra and Marie Vredeling, both of Fulton.

Lawrence Hoffman
MUSCATINE -- Services for Lawrence E. Hoffman, of Muscatine, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Muscatine. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Mr. Hoffman died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Community Health Resources, Muscatine. After he retired from Alcoa, he drove the van for Lutheran Homes for eight years. He was born on Jan. 24, 1912, in Muscatine. He married Betty Romann in 1946 in Muscatine. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Carole Marston and Ruthann Baumgardner, both of Muscatine; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers, Vernon, Sebring, Fla., and Oran, Muscatine.

Gertrude Freyermuth
MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Gertrude M. Freyermuth, of Muscatine, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery , Muscatine. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or the Lutheran Homes, Muscatine. Mrs. Freyermuth died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Lutheran Homes. Gertrude Hammer was born on Jan. 25, 1911, in Louisa County. She married Clifford Freyermuth in 1929 in Davenport. Survivors include a son, Clifford, Phoenix; two grandsons; and a sister, Muriel McCulley, Muscatine.

Mike Waldron
CORALVILLE, Iowa -- Services for Mike Waldron, of Coralville, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wilder Cemetery , Ravanna, Mo. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the Oak Hill Chapel of Lensing Funeral and Cremation Services, Coralville, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Mr. Waldron died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at his home from Alport's Nephritis and long-term kidney dialysis. He was employed for the past 20 years with Moore Business Forms, Iowa City. He was born Sept. 23, 1955, in Princeton, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Iowa. Survivors include a sister, Betty Ullrich, Davenport; his grandmother, Wilma Stockman, Princeton, Mo.; and a special friend, Teresia Reinsch, Coralville.

Maxine Denley
MOLINE -- Services for Maxine D. Denley, of Moline, will be 1 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery , Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 11:30 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Mrs. Denley died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Maxine Payton was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Pleasanton, Iowa. She married Wilfred Denley in 1946 in Moline. Survivors include her husband; sons, Lance Hatcher, Arlington, Texas, and Lynn Payton, Leon, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
