Vera Sidlinger
CLINTON, Iowa -- Vera I. Sidlinger, of 1619 N. 4th St., died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Wyndcrest Nursing Home, Clinton. The Rev. Dan Schadt will officiate. Burial will be in Erie (Ill.) Cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Sidlinger had worked at Erie High School and later at Harlan's Drug Store and Roses Dry Goods, both in Erie. She also taught piano from the home. Vera Cocking was born April 21, 1918, in Prophetstown, Ill., to John and Rosa (Ballard) Cocking. She married Gerald E. "Sid" Sidlinger on April 12, 1941, in Sycamore, Ill. She graduated in 1936 in Erie High School. She was a member of Community Congregational United Church of Christ; American Legion Auxiliary, Erie; and Tag Along Trailer Club. Memorials may be made to Community Congregational Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Debbie Schroeder, St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, Julie Raab and Jim Jungjohann; and great-grandsons, Cameron and Evan Raab and Erik and Jared Jungjohann. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a half brother.

Ada Ottoson
ALEDO, Ill. -- Services for Ada P. Ottoson, of Aledo, formerly of New Windsor, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Petrie Cemetery , New Windsor. Mrs. Ottoson died Friday, March 2, 1999, at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Ottoson taught school in Coal Valley, Silvis and many other Illinois and California schools. Ada Lafferty was born Nov. 24, 1909, in Cameron. She married Frank Ottoson in 1932 in Erie. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Louise Anderson, Woodhull; sons, Harold "Butch," Aledo, and Charles "Bud," Corpus Christi, Texas; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Schneeberger
CLINTON, Iowa -- Services for Ruby I. Schneeberger, of 2361 Dunham St., will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Clinton. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery . Visitation is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Schmitz Funeral Home, Clinton, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Mrs. Schneeberger died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. She was employed with a private insurance agency in Clinton, as an underwriter at Iowa Mutual Insurance Co., DeWitt, and at Chicago & North Western Transportation Co. for more than 30 years. She retired in 1983 as a staff assistant to the superintendent of Clinton car shops. Ruby Olson was born April 14, 1918, in White Pigeon, Ill. She married Edward Schneeberger in 1959 in Clinton. He died in 1979. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a son, Edward J. "Joe" Jr., Clinton; and a sister, Bernice Domeier, Pecatonnica, Ill.

Winifred Beldin
MOLINE -- Services for Winifred Beldin, formerly of Moline, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery , Moline. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Beldin died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Forest Hill Nursing Home, East Moline. She was employed as a physical therapist at Northwestern University Hospital. Winifred Pike was born Feb. 24, 1911, in Sioux City, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation. Survivors include daughters, Genevieve Sellers, Moline, Marcella Sellers, Crystal Rivers, Fla., and Delores Hill, Vero Beach, Fla.; a son, Leroy, Moline; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Idabell Pike, East Moline; and brothers, Fred Pike, Island Lake, Ill., Roland Pike, Paris, Ill., and William Taylor, Hendersonville, N.C.

Ben Hynd
SILVIS, Ill. -- Services for Ben Hynd, of Silvis, will be Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, and 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona. Burial will be in Bowlesburg Cemetery . Visitation is 3:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with a rosary at 6 p.m. Mr. Hynd died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Illini Hospital, Silvis. He was born Oct. 19, 1909, in East Moline. He farmed the family farm every day of his life, including the last day. During World War II, he served with the Army in the South Pacific. Survivors include a brother, William Jr., Peoria.

Phyllis Lensch
ELDRIDGE, Iowa -- Services for Phyllis Arlene Stutt Lensch, of Eldridge, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Lensch died Friday, April 2, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. Phyllis Arlene Stutt, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Harms) Stutt, was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Eldridge. She married John "Jack" Lensch on June 11, 1948, in Las Vegas. Mrs. Lensch attended St. Luke's School of Nursing from 1942-45. She worked on the obstetrics floor before becoming the first North Scott elementary school nurse. After she retired, she helped her husband in their family business. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or a favorite charity. Survivors include her husband, John "Jack"; daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Arlen Flagel, Maquoketa, and Melissa and Dennis Geary, Donahue; a son, Chris Lensch, Eldridge; a former daughter-in-law, Jolyn Lensch, Long Grove; grandchildren, Jessica Flanery, Burnsville, Minn., Alyssa Baguss, Anoka, Minn., and Bethany and Brooke Lensch, Long Grove, and Johanna and Maria Geary, Donahue; great-grandsons, Lane and Neil Baguss, Anoka; and sisters and a brother, Loraine Crooke and Henry Stutt, both of Eldridge, and Kay Friederichs, Dixon. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gerry Murphy.

Alice Allen
DAVENPORT -- Services for Alice S. Allen, of Davenport, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, will be held at a later date. Mrs. Allen died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center - East Campus, Davenport. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She retired after several years as a teacher in Franklin and Linn counties, Iowa. She then worked for 20 years in the office at Younkers, Lindale Mall, Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Allen received her teachers certificate from Iowa State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls. She also attended the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and Coe College, Cedar Rapids. Alice Stockdale was born Oct. 20, 1912, in Franklin County to A.T. and Lida Irene (Stinson) Stockdale. She married Milo Rex Allen on June 10, 1935, in Franklin County. He died in 1970. She enjoyed reading and her family. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or charity of your choice. Survivors include daughters Eloise Kay (Loren) Kober, West Branch, Iowa, and Eileen (Dr. Anthony) Cacioppo, Davenport; a son, Verle (Diane) Allen, Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Gelder, Boone, Iowa; a sister-in-law Loretta Allen, Marion, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Betty Cramer
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Betty J. Cramer, of Milan, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Miss Cramer died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. She was employed 33 years as a case worker at the Department of Human and Family Services. She was born July 1, 1944, in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity. Survivors include sisters, Mary Hoffman, Rock Island, and Barbara Cramer, Milan; and brothers, Edward Cramer, Milan, Richard Cramer, Moline, Robert, William and Donald Cramer, all of Milan, and Carl Cramer, Rock Island.

Robert Purvis
MILAN, Ill. -- Services for Robert D. Purvis, of Milan, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Family Funeral Services, Milan. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Purvis died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. He farmed for 28 years in rural Taylor Ridge. He was employed as supervisor for more than 39 years at International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island. He retired in 1974. He was born March 9, 1915, in Matherville, to James and Edith (Thompson) Purvis. He was raised by his stepfather, Herman Churchill, since he was child. He married Dorothy V. Gillette on June 5, 1937, in Tipton, Iowa. He was a 50-year member of Eureka Masonic Lodge 69 A.F. & A.M., Milan. Memorials may be made to Coyne Center Ambulance. Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Marvin Taylor, Illinois City; sons and daughters, Tom L. and Karleeta Purvis, Maple Park, and Robert G. and Dixie Purvis, Reynolds; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alta Seccia, Clearwater, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and sisters, Wilma and Betty.

Clifford Nicholson
MOLINE -- Services for Clifford C. Nicholson, of 4689 Rose Dr., Oceanside, Calif., formerly of Moline, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Mr. Nicholson died March 29, 1999, at Tri-City Medical Center, Oceanside. Clifford Charles was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Moline, to Clarence Albert and Hilda (Lage) Nicholson, He married Arlene Riggs on Nov. 8, 1942, in Moline. He was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. He retired in 1978. During World War II, he served with the Army in Europe. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion at Padre Gold Post in San Diego. He also was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, East Moline. He was a member of National Association of Letter Carriers, a lifetime member of the San Diego Aerospace Museum, having served there as a volunteer docent. He also was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the San Diego Zoological Society. He made clocks, knives and enjoyed leather work. He loved hummingbirds. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Patricia Youngquist, Moline; grandchildren, Christina Youngquist, Moline, and Paul Smith, Salt Lake City; a great-grandson, Alexander Paul Smith, Salt Lake City; a sister, Evelyn Nicholson, Des Moines; and several cousins.

Janet Neal King
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Janet Neal King, of Bradenton, died March 23, 1999, at her home. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. April 5 at Christ Episcopal Church, Bradenton. Born in 1922 in Des Moines, Janet King graduated from St. Katherine's School, Davenport, and attended Mills College in California. She later attended the University of Iowa with a major in journalism and was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was formerly married to William Fowler. Janet King began her professional career in public relations as a medical writer for the Iowa State Medical Society in 1946. In 1950, she struck out on her own with her 5-year-old daughter to meet new personal and professional challenges in New York City. She became a public relations writer for Merck & Co. Inc., pharmaceutical research company, where she worked for 18 years until her retirement in 1969. In 1969, she moved from Summit, N.J., to Longboat Key, and then settled later in Bradenton. One of her most rewarding years was spent in 1975-76 in Florence, Italy, studying art and the Italian language. She enjoyed intellectual pursuits, including bridge, jazz and reading. Mrs. King was a member of the Ringling Museum, Selby Botanical Gardens, CATO Institute in Washington, D.C., and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1750 17th St., Suite A, Sarasota, 1-800 227-2345, or American Lung Association of Gulf Coast, 2201 Canterbury Court, Sarasota, or a favorite charity. Survivors include a daughter, Gwynne Fowler Briggs, Seattle; grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Briggs, 29, and Joshua Fowler Briggs, 26, both of San Francisco; Sarah Christina Rose, 27, Bellingham, Wash.; a great-grandchild, Katherine Elaine Rose, eight months; brothers, Paul Neal Jr., Bradenton, and Robert Marshall Neal, Santa Barbara, Calif.; and nephews, Paul Neal III, Homer, Alaska, and Patrick Neal, Bradenton.

William Robinson
ROCK ISLAND -- William Frank Robinson of Rock Island died Friday, April 2, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island, after a brief illness. William F. "Bill" Robinson was the son of Walter A. and Estella M. (Coyne) Robinson, born March 4, 1916. He was preceded in death by his parents. On May 14, 1953, he married Virginia Pool Robinson who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Dawn Ann Robinson) Castle of Richland, Mich., and Mrs. Bradley (Jane Ellen Robinson) Hendrickson of Hanahan, S.C. Bill also is survived by a sister, Mrs. John (Ruth Robinson) Hanna of Wilmette, Ill., and five grandchildren, Heather Elizabeth Castle, Logan Michael Castle, Ellen Marie Hendrickson, Kara Dawn Hendrickson and Brett William Hendrickson. William Robinson was well-known business man who owned and operated Robinson Hardware at 1706 3rd Avenue. He was in business with his father until his father's death in 1975. He then operated it independently until his retirement in 1987. Bill served in the military for five years. He was greatly interested in photography and was a member of Tri-City Cinema Club. He was an active member and trustee of Memorial Christian Church in Rock Island. In addition to photography, Bill cherished his family, his church and the out-of-doors. Memorials may be made to the mission fund at Memorial Christian Church. Services are pending. Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements.

Edythe Guthrie
McFARLAND, Wis. -- Edythe Lucille (Schleicher) Guthrie, of McFarland and Hot Springs, Ark., died peacefully with her family surrounding her Saturday, April 3, 1999. Edythe Schleicher was born Oct. 27, 1920, to Theodore and Freda (Banzhaff) Schleicher in Tomah, Wis. She was the youngest of 10 children. Her mother died when she was 2. Ede married Arnold John Guthrie on Feb. 12, 1947. They lived in California for a short time, and then returned to Wisconsin, where Arn obtained a job with the state's Department of Agriculture. They lived on the Guthrie family farm in Oakdale, Wis., and then moved to a farm in Verona, Wis., where they raised their children. In 1970, they moved to a home on the water in Monona, Wis. They moved to Arkansas in 1981 when Arn retired. Above all, Ede enjoyed spending time with her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, boating, gardening and traveling. And she was pretty lucky with the one-armed bandits. Ede also was an artist. She decorated and made everything from quail-egg necklaces to ostrich- and rhea-egg jewelry boxes and turkey-egg lamps. She used her talent to commemorate many special family events with a decorated egg. She is survived by Arnie, her husband of 52 years; their four children, Sandy (Doug) Layfield of Haughton, La., Judy (Mike) Bannow of Oshkosh, Wis., Ardy (Paul) Spellman of McFarland, Wis., and A.J. (Linda) Guthrie of Paducah, Ky.; 13 grandchildren, Dr. Larry (Angela) Layfield, Deena (Donovan) Landreneau, Derek Layfield, Ben, Kipp, Lyndsey and Brandon "B" ' Bannow, Kellie, Jeff and Scott Spellman and Katie Guthrie; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Spellman, who brought her much cheer during her last days; and another great-grandchild expected in November. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters, Mathilda Johnson of Madison, Wis., Louis Schleicher of Tomah, Wis., Josephine Balthis of Madison, Wis. and Frank (Non) Schleicher of Tomah, Wis.; many nieces and nephews, including Rose and Wait Germack, who shared her last days; special neighbors, Jim and Betty Green of Hot Springs; and many more treasured relatives and friends. She was preceded in, death by her parents; a sister, Mary Prell; brothers, George, Ted, John and Arthur; and other relatives and friends. Ede always thought of others before she thought of herself. She brought joy to many people and easily filled rooms with laughter. Her style and grace will be well-remembered. Joyce Funeral Home, Madison, is in charge of arrangements. Services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Christ the King Church, 5306 Main St., McFarland. The Rev. Arthur Koth and the Rev. Lawrence Kieffer will officiate. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery , Tomah, Wis. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Tuesday at the church until the service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care Inc. or American Cancer Society. Special thank you to Father Art Koth and Hospice Care.

Hilda Kramer
ALBANY, Ill. -- Services for Hilda M. Kramer, of 104 S. Church St., will be 11 a.m. Monday at Newton Zion Reformed Church, Erie, preceded by a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery , Fulton. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton, Ill. Mrs. Kramer died Thursday, April 1, 1999, at Bluff Terrace Nursing Facility, Clinton. Hilda Huizenga was born April 5, 1918, in Newton Township. She married Charles Kramer in 1937 in Erie. He died in 1990. Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include sons, Gerald L., Clinton, Clyde A., Erie, and James D., Fulton; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Winnie Vander Vinne and Beulah Hook, both of Fulton.

Keith Tumosa
ROCK ISLAND -- Keith A. Tumosa, of 2300 79th Ave. W., Lot 28, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, after a long battle with cancer. Keith's faith in Christ carried him through his fight. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Keith was born July 24, 1985, in Silvis, Ill. He attended Washington Junior High School, Rock Island, where he was in the eighth grade. He was an avid Quad-City Mallards fan, loved fishing, golfing and had a love for life. He always did everything with such gusto. Anyone he came in contact with fell in love with him. The family wishes to thank the Quad-City Candlelighters, Dance Marathon of Iowa City, Washington Junior High Concerned Parents Committee, Milan Women's Club and so many others who were there for them and who loved and cared for Keith. In lieu of flowers, plants may be sent or memorials made to Quad-City Candlelighters or Visiting Nurses of Western Illinois Pediatrics Home Care, Moline. Survivors include his parents Rose (Staatz) and David Durham, Rock Island, and Anthony Tumosa, Davenport; brothers, Joe Tumosa, Rock Island, and Walter Ford, San Francisco; grandparents, Mike Campagna, Mike and Martha Durham and Pat Durham, all of East Moline, and Marie Durham, Davenport; aunts and uncles, Harold and Lottie Scott, Rick and Jan Scott, Kim and Terry Flannigan, Pam and Billy Bell, Steve and Kelly Webster, Jerry Durham, Mike Durham, Paula and Jackie Moeller, Steve and Cindy Wheelock and Bernie Schrieber; and numerous cousins. Please come and help the family to say goodbye to a wonderful child.
