Mildred Caroline Schwanz
Services for Mildred Caroline Schwanz, 86, were March 29, 2004, at United Church of Christ in Schleswig with the Rev. Chris Burtnett officiating. Interment was at Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig, under the direction of Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.
She died March 26 at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
The daughter of Matthias and Amelia Schwartz Iversen, she was born on a farm in Morgan Township near Schleswig on Sept. 20, 1917. She was raised on her parents' farm and attended country school. She was baptized Oct. 28, 1928, at Frieden Evangelical Church in Morgan Township.
While growing to adulthood, Mildred worked in her parents' home as well as other homes in the Schleswig area.
On Dec. 23, 1939, she married Harry David Schwanz at Frieden Evangelical Parsonage by the Rev. Rinne. To this union were born two children: Arlo and Karen.
They lived on various farms in the Holstein, Schleswig, Dow City, Schaller and Deloit areas. In 1964, they moved to Denison where Mildred babysat her grandchildren. In December 1989, Harry and Mildred were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mildred was very active in the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president for over 20 years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing cards, trips to the casino and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Harry died May 10, 1992. After his death, Mildred continued to make her home in Denison. Due to failing health, she entered the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
She is survived by her children, Arlo and wife Julie Schwanz of Denison and Karen and husband Allan Wiebers of Ute.
Also surviving are five grandchildren: Brian Schwanz and wife Sherri of Lansing, Kan., Brenda and husband Jamie Mostek of Lincoln, Neb., Matthew Keating and wife Linda of Federal Way, Wash., May and husband Darryl Pickett of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Michael DeLong and fiancée Angel Meseck of Pacific, Wash.
Also surviving are a great-grandchild, Hannah DeLong; a step-grandchild, Cody Wiebers; five step-great-grandchildren: Jennifer Pickett, Amber and Nathan Runnels and Bryan and Bethanie Courtney; a step-great-great-grandchild, Morgan Runnels; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers who died in infancy, and a sister, Lesetta Loeck.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren: Brian Schwanz, Matthew Keating, Mary Pickett, Michael DeLong, Douglas Dausel and Jamie Mostek. Honorary casketbearers also were her grandchildren: Brenda Mostek, Cody Wiebers, Sherri Schwanz, Linda Keating, Angel Meseck and Darryl Pickett.
Organ music was provided by Wendy Bumann. Eldon Hardekopf provided vocal selections: "On Eagles' Wings" and "God Will Be With You 'Til We Meet Again."

Willard O. Johnson
Willard Orville "Bill" Johnson, 89, of Odebolt died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Odebolt. Burial will be in Odebolt Cemetery . Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. by the Wheeler Masonic Lodge 398 A.F. & A.M. of Odebolt, at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Opal I. Goettsch
Opal Irene Goettsch, 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa, formerly of Holstein, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holstein United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Todd Schlitter officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery . Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Harry Kreisler
Harry Kreisler, age 71, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverends John Schauer and Gary Scharrer will officiate the service, with burial to follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery . Military graveside honors will be conducted by McNamara-Moore Post No. 61 of the American Legion. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Sunday from 2-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Born June 17, 1932, in Lincoln, Missouri, Harry Paul Kreisler was the son of Walter and Augusta (Fisher) Kreisler. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Missouri. He received his education in Warsaw, Missouri, and later moved to Iowa where he worked as a farmhand.
Harry joined the United States Navy in 1952, serving four years during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he returned to Iowa and resumed work as a farmhand. He began farming on his own in 1957. Harry also painted, shingled, and repaired buildings and homes for many years.
On December 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Janis Cameron in Omaha, Nebraska. Harry enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his greatest love, his family. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove.
Survivors include his wife, Janis; a son and his wife, Jerry and Janet Kreisler of Dawson; two daughters and their husbands, Joy and Kelby Wulf of Holstein, and Gail and Roger Kenkel of Manilla; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Kreisler and his partner Oleta Wilson of Red Bluff, CA; two sisters-in-law, Irene Kreisler of Sioux City, and Jeana Hansen and husband Vern of Des Moines; a brother-in-law and his wife, Tom and Judy Cameron of Alta; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marvin Kreisler; and a son-in-law, Dennis Sharkey.

Alma A. Krueger
Alma A. Krueger, 83, of Danbury died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Danbury United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery . Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Florence Sophia Pedersen
Graveside committal services for Florence Sophia Pedersen, 100, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of Ida Grove, will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the Ida Grove Cemetery in Ida Grove. The Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She passed away April 20, 2004 at San Francisco.

Francis Murphy
Memorial services for Francis Murphy, 95, of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Ida Grove will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Ida Grove. Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Murphy died Nov. 19, 2003 in Tucson.

Mae Brookbank
Mae Brookbank, age 93, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Morningside Rehab & Care Center in Ida Grove, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. Dr. Herbert K. Johnson will officiate the service, with burial to follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery . Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Born April 9, 1911, on a farm north of Ida Grove, Mae Thelma Brookbank was one of seven children born to Elmer and Lena (Urban) Welding. She attended school in Silver Creek Township in Ida County, Iowa, and was baptized in Storm Lake.
On October 11, 1934, Mae was united in marriage to Clarence Brookbank at Schaller, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 18, 1971.
Mae enjoyed gardening and flowers. She worked at an area café and bakery and cleaned homes in Ida Grove for many years. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the casino, and playing "King's Corner" with her family. She was a member of Faith Community Church in Ida Grove for over 40 years, and in May of 2001, was honored as "Lady of the Year" at the church.
Survivors include seven children, Carlyle Welding of
Columbus, OH, Harold (Kris) Brookbank of Phelen, CA, Don (Kathy) Brookbank of Holstein, Shirley (John) Danielson, Sr. of Jefferson, Marvin (Judi) Brookbank of Gillette, WY, Darold (Eileen) Brookbank of Ida Grove, and Sharon (Charles) Ziegmann of Wall Lake; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Paula Cole, of Scottsburg, IN.
In addition to her husband, Mae was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, William, Vernon, and Arthur Welding; 3 sisters, Marie Welding, Florence Robbins, and Bessie Schwanz; 2 grandsons, Merritt Dean Brookbank and Robert Dean Danielson; and 2 great-grandchildren, Matthew Welding and Katherine Jo Ziegmann.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: John Danielson, Jr., Larry Danielson, Tom Danielson, Randy Danielson, John Brookbank, and Marc Ziegmann.

Duane Johnson
Duane Johnson, 87, of Odebolt died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kiron Baptist Church in Kiron, Iowa. Burial will be in Hayes Township Cemetery , rural Arthur, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Harlan 'Harley' Heinse
Harlan Eugene "Harley" Heinse, 80, of Holstein passed away Saturday, July 31, 2004, at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holstein, with the Rev. Curtis Benson officiating. The body will be cremated. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery , with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 454. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.
Harlan was born June 14, 1924, the third of four children to Berthold R. and A. Catherine (Hansen) Heinse, on the family farm east of Holstein. He attended country school and graduated from Galva Community School in 1941.

After high school, Harlan worked at the Wincharger Plant in Sioux City until joining the U.S. Army in 1942. During the war, he served three years in India, Egypt and Italy as a technical sergeant in the Army Ordinance. In 1946, Harlan agreed to farming with his father, only if they could get rid of the horses and purchase a tractor. They did, and Harlan continued to farm the home place until he retired in 1987.
On Feb. 22, 1946, Harlan was united in marriage to Lorna May Bedke of Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple moved to the Heinse family farm. They enjoyed working and living on the farm for 45 years before moving to their home on Kastner Drive in 1991. Harlan moved to the Holstein Good Samaritan Center in October of 2003.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 454. Harlan enjoyed his grandchildren, cars, fishing trips to Canada and playing cards and pool games with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorna; two daughters, Sally (George) Fosha of Calhan, Colo. and Linda (Jeff) Jochims of Holstein; a sister, Bea (John) Faber of Winter Haven, Fla.; two grandchildren, Chad (Jennifer) Jochims of Alta, Iowa and Michelle (Raymond) Rodriguez of Carrollton, Texas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Ann Heinse; a sister, Bernice Heinse; an infant daughter, Karen Sue; and an infant granddaughter, Kristine Jill Sutherland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Legion, c/o Roger Meier, 6505 Y Ave., Galva, IA 51020.

Merle Yearous
Merle Yearous, age 69, of Holstein, Iowa died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center.
Memorial Services will be Friday, July 30, 2004 at 10:30 at the Galva United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery at Balaton, Minnesota. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
A time of gathering will be held at the Galva United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 29, 2004, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friends who wish to send condolences to the family online may do so via the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Homes website: www.fratzkejensen.com
Merle Marie Elizabeth Huck was born October 26, 1934 to Clarence Andrew and Irene Agnes (Meyer) Huck at Alma, Iowa. She was baptized at her parents' home on August 11, 1935 and confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Alma.
Merle spent her childhood in her parents' home in Howard County, Iowa where she attended school, until the family moved to Russell, Minnesota in 1951.
On April 26, 1959, Merle was united in marriage to Gene Albion
Yearous at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Balaton, Minnesota. Three children blessed their union: Bradley, Jackie and Gena. Merle and Gene celebrated 45 wonderful years together in April this year. They are members of Galva United Methodist Church.
Merle was a loving wife and devoted mother and grandmother who spent many happy years making a warm and comfortable home for her family, whom she treasured. Of course, she delighted in her grandchildren and loved to spend time with them. In her spare time, Merle enjoyed bowling and dancing. She
liked to spend time outdoors in her garden and spent many an hour watching and feeding her feathered friends. She was especially happy to spot cardinals, as they were her favorite birds.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gene of Holstein; son, Bradley and wife Julie (Kalin) Yearous of Galva; daughters: Jackie Yearous of Holstein and Gena Yearous of Balaton, Minnesota; grandchildren: Amy Yearous, Jason Yearous, Mallory Yearous, Kyle Yearous, Katie Yearous, Maggie Yearous
and Lauren Yearous; one brother, Clarence and wife Mary Ann Huck of Russell, Minnesota one sister, Marjorie and husband Russell Mathews of Canby, Minnesota; and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Preceding Merle in death were her parents; her older sister, Margaret Anderson; and an infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Yearous.

Diane Joyce (Blenner) Endahl
Diane Joyce (Blenner) Endahl, 68, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, formerly of Holstein, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 25, 2004, at her residence with her family present following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Holstein Cemetery.

Lenhardt Teut
Lenhardt Teut, 86, of Schleswig died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery . Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig.

Vicki L. Iversen
Vicki L. Iversen, age 49, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverends Gary Scharrer and John Schauer will officiate the service, with burial to follow in the Ida Grove Cemetery . Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.
Vicki Lee Iversen was born October 21, 1954, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Raymond and Alberta (Riessen) Reitz. She was raised and educated in Battle Creek, graduating from Battle Creek High School in 1972.
On October 29, 1976, Vicki was united in marriage to Steven L. Iversen in Elk Point, South Dakota. To this union, two children, Chad and Stephanie, were born, joining her other son, Jeremiah Reitz.
Vicki was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. For the past 25 years she ran a daycare from her home. In her spare time, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, being mother to her daycare kids, and spending time with all her family and especially her grandkids, which were her pride and joy.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Steve; three children, Jeremiah Reitz and wife April, Chad Iversen, and Stephanie Corr and husband Andrew, all of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Zane, Ethan and Caleb Reitz, and Abbie Corr; her father, Raymond Reitz of Battle Creek; four brothers and their spouses, Michael and Anna Reitz of Battle Creek, Mickey and Deb Reitz, and Gaylen and Diane Reitz, all of Ida Grove, and Henry (Pete) and Karman Reitz of Battle Creek; her mother-in-law, Evelyn Iversen of Ida Grove; four brothers-in-law, Emil Jr., Allan (Butch), and Robert (Bob) Iversen, all of California, and John Iversen of Moorehead; two sisters-in-law, Emily Hoaglund of Ida Grove, and Sue Iversen of California; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and all the families and children she has touched throughout her daycare years.
She was preceded in death by her mother; grandparnts; father-in-law, Emil Iversen; and a brother-in-law, Richard (Dick) Hoaglund.
