EDWARD 'DUTCH' KRULL

Thompson - Edward "Dutch" Krull, 86, of Thompson, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Thompson, with the Rev. Wendy Trone officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Winter Funeral home in Thompson and one hour before services on Friday at the church.

MARGARET J. KLOBERDANZ

OSAGE - Margaret J. Kloberdanz, 88, of Osage, died Wednesday (Dec. 13, 2001) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

DORIS T. PREUSS

MASON CITY - Doris T. Preuss, 74, of 1401 Birch Drive, died Monday (Dec. 10, 2001) at her home.

There are no services scheduled at this time.

There will be no visitation. It was the request of Doris to be cremated.

Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Doris is survived by her husband, Ralph W. Preuss, of Mason City; sisters, Phyllis T. Mertz and husband, John, of Johnston, and Jean T. Odefey and husband, Arnie, of Bloomington, Minn.; brothers, Bill Travis and his wife, Judy, of Vinton, and Bob Travis, of Marietta, Okla.; sister-in-law, Rose Travis, of Lake Kioya, Texas; brother-in-law, Harold Preuss and wife, Grace, of Waterville, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald.

MARGARET K. ANDERSON

CLEAR LAKE - Margaret K. Anderson, 87, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery , Mason City.

Memorials may be given to the Margaret K. Anderson Memorial Fund.

Margaret was born July 13, 1914, in Thornton, the daughter of Elmer and Lela (Floy) Nelson. She went to country school and graduated from Thornton High School in 1931.

On Dec. 15, 1935, Margaret married Marvin Anderson in Thornton. They moved to a farm near Swaledale in 1936. In 1948 they moved to Clear Lake. Margaret worked at the Clear lake Bakery from 1954-1959. She then worked part-time at several cafes in Clear Lake.

Margaret enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and visiting with her friends and having coffee, and going for car rides. She also enjoyed going to the Do Day Club at church where they made quilts, and knitting Afghans for family and friends. She also enjoyed watching baseball.

Margaret was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Hope Circle.

Margaret is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Levenhagen, Des Moines; three sons, Gary Anderson, of Clear Lake, Dennis Anderson and his wife, Marcia, of Clear Lake, and David Anderson and his wife, Judy, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Sherri Olson and her husband, Todd, Nicole Lyon and her husband, Mike, Travis Anderson, Jason Anderson and his wife, Rachel, Joel Anderson and Jody Davis, Jacob Anderson, Scott Hakes and his special friend, Ellen, Jaime Hakes, and Jennifer Allen; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Floyd Harms and his wife, Mary, of Mason City; special friend, Linda Bowers and her husband, David, of Clear Lake; two nieces and spouses, and two nephews and spouses.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin in 1989, and one sister, Ruth Harms.

DAVID C. 'OLE' OLSON

CLEAR LAKE - David C. "Ole" Olson, 51, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Leo Riley officiating. Inurnment will be at a later time in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the memorial service.

The Family suggests memorials to the David C. Olson Memorial Fund.

David was born Sept. 1, 1950, in Mason City, the son of Clare and Violet (Jolly) Olson. He attended Ventura High School. He farmed in the Clear Lake area.

David married Pamela Jilek on Oct. 11, 1975, in Mason City. They lived on the farm south of Clear Lake.

He enjoyed riding his Harley, being with his daughter, Ashley, working on cars, fishing and hunting.

David was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in January 1987 and on May 28, 1992, he became a resident of Oakwood Care Center. The family would like to thank Oakwood Care Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the wonderful care they gave their loved one.

David is survived by Pamela Olson, of Clear Lake; his daughter, Ashley Olson, of Clear Lake; parents, Clare Olson and Violet Olson, of Clear Lake; three sisters, Mary Butts and her husband, Dale, Marcia Gardinier and her husband, Jim, and Ruth Clemons and her husband, Kent, all of Clear Lake; and several aunts and uncles.

His grandparents preceded him in death.

ANNA HERZOG

MASON CITY - Anna Herzog, 97, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with Rev. Chris Podhajsky officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, where a Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary will be said at 4 p.m. followed by a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Newman Catholic Schools.

Anna was born Sept. 16, 1904, at Charles City, a daughter of Miller and Minnie (Koebrick) Ellis. She was united in marriage to Leo Herzog on April 6, 1926, at Ionia.

Anna attended Charles City schools, and has been a resident of Mason City for the past 74 years.

She enjoyed caring for her family and home and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and VFW auxiliary, all in Mason City.

Anna is survived by, her daughter, Rosanna Bartholomew, of Mason City; six grandchildren, Craig Bartholomew and his wife, Karen, of Mason City, Deb Ballantyne and her husband, Bob, of Mason City, Wanda Hodak and her husband, Nick, of Mason City, Terry Bartholomew and his wife, Theresa, of Waukee, Jeff Bartholomew and his wife, Kandee, of Mason City, and Paul Bartholomew and his wife, Pam, of Mason City; 17 great-grandchildren, Chad Bartholomew and his wife, Melissa, of Des Moines, Krista Bartholomew, of Denver, Colo., Michelle Bartholomew, of Mason City, Lori Williams and her husband, Mike, of Mason City, Jennifer Smith and her husband, Troy, of Mason City, Julie Marlow and her husband, Troy, of Des Moines, Frank Hodak, of Manly, Noah Hodak and his wife, Jeni, of Mason City, Nicolette Hodak, of Mason City, Matthew Bartholomew, of Waukee, Ben Bartholomew, of Norfolk, Va., Jacob Bartholomew, of Mason City, Katee Bartholomew, of Mason City, Alicia Bartholomew, of Mason City, Tyler Bartholomew, of Mason City, Alex Bartholomew, of Mason City, and Mattison Bartholomew, of Mason City; 14 great-great-grandchildren, Blane, Brandon, Haley, Kyler, Colin, Rylie, Zach, Tristan, Trinity, Kade, Ashlyn, Zakariah, Ezekial and Aizik; a sister-in-law, Olive Ellis, of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death, by her parents; her husband, Leo, in 1985; two brothers; two sisters; and a son-in-law, Alvin Bartholomew.

EDNA M. SMITH

GARNER - Edna M. Smith, 91, of Garner, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2002) at the Concord Care Center in Garner.

Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Garner, with the Rev. Darrell Weber officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Garner, and one hour before services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Edna Smith Memorial Fund.

Edna Mae Smith, the daughter of Fred and Maren (Back) Petersen, was born May 4, 1910, at Blairstown. She attended school at Belle Plaine and then moved with her family to Garner, where she graduated from high school in 1927. Following graduation, she taught rural school.

On May 4, 1929, she was married to Earle Smith at Garner. They farmed southeast of Garner until 1970, when they retired and moved into Garner.

Edna enjoyed her great-grandchildren and playing cards. She was a member of Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church.

Edna is survived by her daughter, Joan Dirksen and her husband, Merv, of Clear Lake; two grandsons, Scott Dirksen of Clear Lake and Kevin Dirksen and his wife, Dawn, of Columbus, Ind.; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Stefan Dirksen of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Kathryn Goll, of Garner; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle, on Aug. 4, 1989; two brothers; and two sisters.
