GERALD I. BROOKS

CLEAR LAKE - Gerald I. Brooks, 92, died Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Thomas W. Healey officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery , with military honors provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church in his name.

Gerald was born Jan. 15, 1907, near Goodell, Iowa, the son of Ollie and Lillian (Etchen) Brooks. He graduated from Clear Lake High School and attended Hamilton Business College, Mason City.

He married Helen Hendricks on June 24, 1936, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Gerald managed the Clear Lake Liquor Store from 1934-39. He was in the grocery business for a number of years, and he retired from Interstate Power Company in 1972.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in Belgium and the Philippine Islands.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the American Legion and the V.F.W. in Clear Lake.

He is survived by one sister, Ferne Melcher and her husband, Claytus, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one niece, Linda Neese, of Cedar Falls; one nephew, Mark Melcher, of McLean, Va.; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

RUTH B. EPPENS

MASON CITY - Ruth B. Eppens, 73, of 1627 S. Wilson Ave., died Friday (July 2, 1999) at her home.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, 125 E. State St., Mason City, with the Rev Ron Stein officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery , Mason City.

Visitation was held on Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church

Ruth B. Eppens was born Feb. 17, 1926, to John Bertram and Eva Marie (Overturf) Clausen. She attended Mason City schools.

On Sept. 27, 1947, Ruth married Charles Eppens in Mason City. Ruth worked for S.S. Kresge Variety Store and later for the NIACC food service.

Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church. Ruth enjoyed her card club, playing Aggravation and her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, John Eppens and his wife, Carolyn, of Mason City, and Dale Eppens and his wife, Barb, of Clear Lake; a sister, Esther Wheeler and her husband, Eugene, of Mason City; five grandchildren, Ronni Rettig and her husband, Shawn, Craig Eppens and his wife, Jennifer, and Brian, Brenda and Katie Eppens; and four great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles in 1992; five brothers, Chuck, Don, Kenny, Clarence and Bud; and one sister, Geraldine.

MARIE CASEY MACPEAK

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Mrs. Marie Casey MacPeak, 74, of Nacogdoches, died Thursday (July 1, 1999) in Dallas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel, in Nacogdoches, with Monsignor James E. Young, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home, Nacogdoches.

BETH O. DAWSON

MASON CITY - Beth O. Dawson, 82, of Mason City, died Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or St. Joseph Catholic Church in honor of Beth O. Dawson.

Beth Opal Dawson was born April 4, 1917, at Charles City, the daughter of William and Clara Blake. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1936.

On Oct. 11, 1939, she married John Richard Dawson at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

Beth was employed as a waitress and later was the bookkeeper for her husband John's trucking company. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed fishing, traveling and making crafts.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and belonged to a Ladies Circle.

Survivors include her husband, John Dawson, of Mason City; one brother, Richard Blake, of New Sheritan; one sister-in-law, Frances Krinbring and her husband, Lloyd, of Clinton; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bud, William and Albert, in infancy; four sisters, Leona, Marie, Etta and Mable.

GLADYS MARY (SWENSON) THOMPSON

BELMOND - Funeral services for Gladys (Swenson) Thompson, 92, of Belmond, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with Pastor Jim Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Church.

The family requests that memorials be made to the Wright County Hospice.

Gladys (Swenson) Thompson, the daughter of Wincenta and Mary (Finn) Dziewanowski, was born on July 10, 1906, in Belmond. She attended and graduated from Belmond High School.

On July 7, 1927, Gladys was united in marriage to Sid Swenson in Belmond. Four children were born to this union, Joan, Sid, Annette and David. The couple enjoyed working together, and they took care of Sid's parents until their deaths. Sid passed away in August 1964.

Gladys was married to Glen Thompson on June 8, 1973, in Belmond. The two of them enjoyed traveling together from time to time. Gladys also loved to cook for her family and she liked to keep busy sewing. While living in Belmond, she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond.

Gladys died on Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Sid Swenson and his wife, Mary Jo, of Belmond, and David Swenson and his wife, Janelle, of Fergus Falls, Minn.; daughter, Joan Carson and her husband, Jean, of Buda, Texas; two stepdaughters, Vicki VanDonselaar and her husband, Paul, of Brea, Calif., and Glenda Jarvis and her husband, Roger, of Bear Creek, Wis.; a stepdaughter-in-law, Nita Fuchs and her husband, John, of Ahwahnee, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sid Swenson; second husband, Glen Thompson; daughter, Annette; stepson, Tony; an infant brother, William; and a brother, Tom Dziewanowski.

MARJORIE BETH KINGERY

GREENE - Funeral services for Marjorie Beth Kingery, 71, of 11 High School Blvd., will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery , Greene.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene.

Marjorie Beth Lucas was born Feb. 12, 1928, in rural Greene, Butler County, a daughter of Percy Lucas and Helen Stine, and died Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center, Greene.

She received her education in country school and Greene High School, graduating in 1946.

On Sept. 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Darrell Lewis Kingery at Greene. To this union were born three children.

Marjorie was self employed as a caterer and had the Corner House Tea Room for 12 years in Greene. She retired in 1992.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and then the Presbyterian Church, both in Greene. She was also a member of the Coldwater Country Club and Bridge Club.

Living family members include one son, James Kingery, of Moscow, Idaho; two daughters, Lynette and Neil Wedeking, of Marble Rock and Nancy Osborn of Janesville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Genevieve McMeen.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Marjorie Beth Kingery Memorial Fund in care of the family.
