JANETTE FRAKES

BOONE - Janette Frakes, 61, of Boone, died Wednesday (July 7, 1999) in rural Boone, as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, where she was a member. Cremation will follow the service. Private family graveside services and burial of the cremains will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone on Monday.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Boone, with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be given to the Boone County Food Pantry, Boone.

She was born in Rockwell City on Oct. 9, 1937, the daughter of William and Nell (Meusberger) Griffith. She graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1954.

She married James Frakes Oct. 10, 1959, in Fort Dodge. She had lived in Boone since 1969. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Boone Woman's Club, the Boone Golf and Country Club and a Lady of the Elks.

She is survived by her husband, James, of Boone; two daughters, Patricia Sebring of Davenport and Diane Julius of Mason City; her mother, Nell Griffith, of Rockwell City; a brother, Jack Griffith, of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Cora Dagit of Cresco and Bonnie Wilkins of Lake View; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

JERRY N. FJETLAND

FOREST CITY - Jerry N. Fjetland, 49, of Forest City, passed away Wednesday (July 7, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Richard Newgard of Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery , Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Jerry Noel Fjetland, the son of Clifford and Verlette Fjetland, was born Feb. 19, 1950, at Forest City. He was baptized and confirmed at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church. He attended and graduated from Forest City High School in 1968.

On May 1, 1971, he was united in marriage to Cynthia M. Anderson at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Jerry lived his entire life in Forest City, where for 17 years he was in partnership with his brother-in-law, Dennis Loux, as J & D Construction. He also sold real estate for four years with the Anderson Agency. He was currently employed at Winnebago Industries as a manager-coordinator for the motor sport program.

His hobbies included songwriting, singing and recording. He was a member of the "Rondels Band" for 25 years, which included two of his brothers and a friend. He enjoyed classic cars and attended many car shows.

He was a member of Forest City Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Fjetland, of Forest City; his father, Clifford Fjetland, of Woden; three brothers and one sister, Collin Fjetland and his wife, Carmen, of Woden, Virginia Loux and her husband, Dennis, of Clear Lake, Lon Fjetland and his wife, Roxann, of Clear Lake, and James Fjetland of Clear Lake; two aunts, Delores Langerud of Forest City and Betty Moen of Emmetsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Verlette (Moen) Fjetland; and his grandparents.

He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Blessed be his memory.

LORETTA L. CHRISTIANS

MASON CITY - Loretta L. Christians, 89, of Mason City, died Thursday (July 8, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A private family funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bridge Colonial Chapel, Manly, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or to Jim Smith, 903 12th St. N.W., Mason City, to establish a fund in memory of Loretta L. Christians.

Loretta was born June 22, 1910, in Manly, the daughter of Edward C. and Laura (Cobeen) Reindl. She attended and received her education in the Manly schools and graduated from high school in the class of 1927. She attended State Teachers' College in Cedar Falls and taught in the rural Worth County Elementary schools for several years. She worked in organizing the State Employment Office in Cerro Gordo, Franklin and Worth Counties in the early 1930s.

She was united in marriage to Roy Christians of Grafton on June 21, 1936. For several years after his death in 1981, she was a resident of the Manor in Mason City.

Loretta will be remembered for her kindness to others and her humor.

Living family members include two sisters, Loretta's twin, DeEtta Peterson of Mason City, and Genevieve Sizenbach and her husband, Charles, of Tomball, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Mary V. Smith; and one niece, Judy Kane.

MERLE ROLOFF

CHARLES CITY - Merle Roloff, 85, of 602 Fourth Ave., died Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at the Salsbury Baptist Home, Charles City.

Funeral services for Merle Roloff will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with the Rev. Greg White officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery , Orchard.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.There will be further visitation one hour before services on Saturday.

Merle Edwin Roloff was born Aug. 19, 1913, at Stout, the son of Ernest and Mary (Yokum) Roloff. He graduated from New Hartford High School, where he was the Iowa State basketball champion player. He attended Iowa State Teachers College and Northwestern Bible College.

On Sept. 7, 1935, he was united in marriage to Pauline Byrd at the Walnut Street Baptist Church, Waterloo. Merle served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a salesman for 41 years with the Jewel Tea Company, later the Jewel Company, for many years.

Merle was a member of the American Legion and Temple Baptist Church. He served extensively in supplying pulpits in many churches in the surrounding counties.

Living family members include his wife, Pauline, of Charles City; a son, Marston "Val" and his wife, Gail, of Grand Marais, Minn.; a daughter, Sue and her husband, Ron Coffey, of Council Bluffs; two grandchldren, Jason Marc and Joshua Aaron Roloff; a great-grandson, Jacob Marc Roloff; and a brother, Leo Roloff, of Illinois.

His parents, five brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.

ALTHEA M. PENDERGAST-WHITTEN

ROWAN - Althea M. Pendergast-Whitten, 93, of Rowan, died Wednesday (July 7, 1999) at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Rowan, with the Rev. JoAnn Skyrme officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery , Rowan.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m.

RAYMOND WAHL

GRAFTON - Raymond Wahl, 86, of Grafton, died Wednesday (July 7, 1999) at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be at the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.

JOANNE CATHERINE MARSH

GREENE - Joanne Catherine Marsh, 58, 502 N. Bluff, died Tuesday (July 6, 1999) at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with the Rev. Gene Burry and the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, Greene, with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
