JEANETTE LINDELL

Mable Charlotte Jeanette Lindell, the daughter of Elmer J. and Mernie (Larson) Dahlquist was born November 21, 1914 near Stanton, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 16 days.

Jeanette was raised in the Stanton community and graduated from Stanton High School in l931. She was united in marriage to Harry Milton Lindell on March 6, 1937 at Stanton, Iowa. Jeanette and Milton lived on a farm northeast of Stanton, moving in l951 to a farm southeast of Villisca. They moved to Red Oak in l987. During her years on the farm she belonged to a neighborhood ladies club. She was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and Eunice Circle. Jeanette enjoyed cooking, reading and listening to church music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on November 6, 1992, and 3 brothers, Loren, Corne and Gene. Jeanette is survived by a daughter; Betty Blunt and husband Lee of Oelwein, Iowa, two sons; Don Lindell of Red Oak, Iowa and Darle Lindell of Lincoln, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren; Robin MacKnight and husband Chris of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeff Lindell and wife Reka of Des Moines, Iowa, Kris Moeller and husband Craig of Oelwein, Iowa and Marc Blunt of Evansdale, Iowa; 9 great-grandchildren; Teagan, Trey, Savanna, Daphne, Mason, Maura, Mycah, Merek and Ally; a brother; Maynard Dahlquist of Loveland, Colorado; other relatives and a host of friends.

May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 10, 2003 at 10:00 AM At the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating.

RUSSELL DEAN GRAY

Funeral services for Russell Dean Gray will be held Friday, October 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Home in Corning, IA, with the Pastor Tim Maxa officiating. Burial will be in the North Grove Cemetery in Page County with military honors. Visitation is on Thursday with family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Russell Dean Gray was on February 15, 1947 in Clarinda, IA, to Mary Ellen Robinson and Arthur Russell Gray. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1965 and received his bachelor's in business from CMSU in 1983. He was married to Carolyn Louise Inman in 1968, a 17 year union. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served 12 years with the U.S. Airforce. He was a graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, a member of the Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association and volunteered with the Nodaway Corn Carnival and the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers.

Gray served as deputy sheriff in Adams County for the last five years. He had also served as a Villisca City Policeman and a part-time deputy sheriff in Cass County.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother; a son, Jason Arthur; a brother, Kyle Gray; and a sister, Gail Thurman. He is survived by his father, Arthur Gray of Clarinda; his significant other, Barbara Joynes of Kent, IA; and his son, Gabe Gray of Marshall, MO.

Mildred Lucille Chandler

Mildred Lucille Chandler, 76, of Poteau, OK., passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau. She was born on August 3, 1927, in Grady County, OK to Charlie H. and Annie (Garrison) Lowry. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church and the Poteau Pearls (a quilting club). She was a homemaker at the time of her death, but had retired from the Mojave, California, Unified School District and Wal-Mart in Poteau. She loved quilting, crafting and gardening. Her parents preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, William D. (Dub) Chandler, Jr. of the home; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Cathie and Jim Knight of Hoschton, GA, Anna and Joel Fengel of Villisca, IA, Theresa Mace of Lawrenceville, GA, and Carolyn and Charles (Bud) Brannam of Huntington, AR; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Leslie Chandler of Poteau, David and Carla Chandler of Quartz Hill, CA, and Tom and Tammy Chandler of Wasilla, AK; a sister, Wanda Shafer of Poteau; 18 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of beloved friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 23 at the Southside Baptist Church with the Reverend Dale Rogers officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Eric Fengel, Ian Knight, Cody Chandler, Brian Chandler, Christopher Knight and Michael Chandler. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery , Poteau.

Verda Verlee Narigon

Funeral services for Verda Lee Narigon, Red Oak, formerly of Villisca, were held Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca. Burial was at the Villisca Cemetery.

Verda Lee Narigon was born on March 14, 1924, on the Waage home farm in Douglas Township, Montgomery County, Iowa, and was the youngest of ten children, born to Sam H. and Mary Emma (Rupp) Waage. She died Friday, September 19, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.

In the 1940's, Verda moved to Villisca with her mother and worked at the Candy Kitchen. She was employed as dental assistant for Dr. Harold Sidwell in Villisca. Many years later, Verda managed the Villisca City Variety Store and was a checker and meat cutter at Weiner's grocery store.

On October, 31, 1944, Verda married Lt. Dwain Narigon in Villisca at the Methodist parsonage. During their years of military service, they lived at Fort Carson, Ft. Benning, St. Louis, Ft Dix, Ottawa and Burlington, IL, and a tour of Heilbronn, Germany.

Verda and Dwain retired on an acreage just north of Villisca in 1964 and moved to Red Oak in 1989. During their retirement, they spent many winters in southern Texas. She was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Dwain, in July 2001; her parents and all nine of her brothers and sisters - Harry, Ernest, Arthur, Russell, Ralph and Fay Waage, Mabel Govig, Lela Mullen and Cleo Calkins.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicky Eickerman, son-in-law Kim Eickerman, and granddaughter Hanna, all of Vancouver, WA; brother-in-law Kenneth Narigon and wife Gelda of Wildomar, CA; sister-in-law Winona Narigon of Ft. Madison, IA; sister-in-law Freda Waage Schenck of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Ryan Oltmanns

Funeral services for Daniel Ryan Oltmanns were held Monday, September 15, 2003 at 2 pm at Laurel Land cemetery on Crowley Rd. in Fort Worth, Texas. Daniel, 16, a junior at North Crowley High was born June 12, 1987 in Dallas, Texas to Nancy Coon and Kenneth Oltmanns and died September 9, 2003.

Daniel enjoyed hanging out with his friends, going to the mall,driving, lifting weights and working out at the YMCA. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and will be missed by many. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Coon; father, Kenneth Oltmanns; stepfather, Lennel Barksdale and brother Tyler Oltmanns. Grandparents, Marvin and Marjorie Coon, Kenneth and Ethel Oltmanns; several aunts, uncles and cousins; numerous friends and classmates.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to The Daniel Ryan Oltmanns Memorial Scholarship Fund and sent to The Daniel Oltmann Family, 8336 Auburn, Fort Worth, Texas 76123. The scholarship fund will be for the North Crowley High School Class of 2005.

Aneitta Elizabeth Figgins

Funeral services for Aneitta Elizabeth Figgins were held Tuesday, September 2, 2003, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with the Pastor Albert Baker officiating. Burial was at the Nodaway Cemetery.

Aneitta Elizabeth Figgins was born on October 15, 1927, in Macon County Missouri, to Matt Dorr and Abbiegail Sunken Dorr. She died Saturday, August 30, 2003 in Lincoln, NE. She graduated from high school in Norwalk, IA. Later, she moved to Nodaway, where she met Ronald Figgins. They were married on December 9, 1947, in Atlantic, IA. To this union, two children were born: Lola Marie and Larry Earl.

Ronald and Aneitta farmed in Adams County for over 44 years. During this time, she worked two years for the NFO, three years for Tenville Oil, and 11 years for Union Carbide. Aneitta and Ronald retired in 1991 and moved into Villisca. Aneitta had helped in the Antique and Furniture store; her main activity has been working at Breadeaux Pizza for the past few years.

Aneitta enjoyed visiting with people, bowling, painting, playing cards, her favorite hobby was fishing and telling fish stories.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ada Sprague; an infant brother; and a brother, Virgil Dorr.

Aneitta is survived by her husband Ronald of Villisca; daughter Lola Marie Babiak and her husband Michael of Cleveland, OH; and son Larry Figgins and wife Dee of Villisca. Also four grandchildren: Jason Woods and wife Candy of Essex, IA; Justin Woods of Red Oak, IA; Richard Figgins and wife Shannon of Villisca; and Chantel Figgins Konz and husband Todd of Villisca. Plus seven great-grandchildren: Kyle Konz, Kody Konz, Austin Woods, Jadon Ayres, Jace Ayres, Jordyn Figgins and Marcus Burk. One brother Glendon Dorr and wife Ruth of Texas; step-sister Velma Timmerman of Corning; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Diabetes Association. The Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Pierson

Marvin Pierson, age 85, of Wichita, Kansas, formerly of Stanton, Iowa, died Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Robert Dole Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2003, at the Mamrelund Cemetery , Stanton, Iowa with the Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin Carlyle Pierson was born April 8, 1918, in Montgomery County, Iowa to Oscar Pierson and Mae (Samuelson) Pierson. Marvin was a graduate of Red Oak High School and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army. Marvin received disabling injuries during the war and continued to live in the Wichita, Kansas area after his honorable discharge from the service.

Preceding Marvin in death were his parents; sister, Mildred Waymire; brother, Rolland Pierson; sister, Irene Ruggles; and an infant brother, Orville. Survivors include cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Dorothy Emary

Graveside services for Dorothy Maxine Emary of Kennard, NE were held Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola, IA with Rev. Hugh Stone officiating.

Dorothy Maxine Emary was born March 11, 1924 in Villisca, IA, to Jesse and Pearl (Donner) Briggs, and died August 11, 2003 in Kennard.

She attended school in Earlham, IA. On March 22, 1948, she was united in marriage to Walter Emary in Omaha, NE. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1984. Dorothy was a homemaker all of her life. She had lived in Kennard the past six years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter; son, Donald; two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are her two sons, Michael Emary and wife Barbara of Overland Park, KS and Steven Emary and wife Elizabeth of Kennard; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and sister, Lois Frazee of Villisca.

Laura Mae Fengel

Graveside memorial services for Laura Mae Fengel of California were held Monday, August 18, 2003 at the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, IA, with Pastor Albert Baker officiating. Interment was at the Villisca Cemetery . Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca was in charge of arrangements.

Laura Mae Fengel was born December 6, 1902 in Villisca, the daughter of Charles Lloyd and Mary Charlotte (Vigor) Raney, and died September 16, 2002 at Castro Valley Care Center in California.

She attended country school at Hazel Dell No. 8 in Montgomery County for seven years, completing the 8th grade at the Lincoln Building in Villisca. She graduated from the Villisca High School in 1922. The following year she began teaching in Montgomery County and taught four years at Wallin. She was then married to Walter F. Rockwell of Red Oak, IA. He died on their first wedding anniversary at her parents' home in Villisca. She continued teaching 14 years in various schools, the last at Hazel Dell, where she had attended grade school. She enrolled at Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, but returned home to help care for her seriously ill mother. After her mother's death, she remained to keep house for her father and brother, Lou, until her father's death.

She resumed teaching until 1940, when she married Gale J. Fengel. They moved to Fort Dodge, IA; later to Boone, IA. In 1942, they moved to San Leandro, CA, where Gale worked in the shipyards during World War II. Later, Gale worked in sheet metal until he retired in 1966.

Laura and Gale were a loving couple and were active in various clubs in California - a camera club for 25 years; a gem and mineral club for 29 years; a travel club; and two choral groups. Gale died November 15, 1988. Laura continued living in San Leandro until she entered Castro Valley Care Center in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jessie M. Park and Pearl Iona Egleston; one brother, John Louis Raney; several nephews, nieces and cousins; her first husband, Walter F. Rockwell; and her second husband of many years, Gale J. Fengel.

She is survived by her nephew, Norman Park and wife Gaynell of Alcova, WY; niece, Geraldine Zolberg of Idaho; great-nephews Mark Park of Alcova, Blake Park of Seattle, WA, Judge David Park and Dwain Park of Casper, WY, and Tony Park of Colorado; great-niece, Danene Park of Bellevue, WA; four great-great nephews and two great-great nieces; and second cousin James Raney and wife LaDonna of Villisca.

HAROLD (BIBS) MINARD

Funeral services for Harold (Bibs) Minard of Clarinda, IA were held Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with Rev. John Clark officiating.

Burial was in the Hawleyville Cemetery . Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George Harold (Bibs) Minard was born March 8, 1909 at Hawleyville, IA, to Albert and Mary (Kapple) Minard, and died Monday, August 4, 2003, at Westridge Care and Rehab Center in Clarinda. He was united in marriage December 11, 1929 at the Methodist Parsonage in Clarinda to Iva Irene Fleck. Bibs farmed from 1930-1952 and then operated a road grader for Page County until his retirement.

He enjoyed his children and grandchildren. Preceding Bibs in death were his parents, wife, Iva Irene (1979), one grandson, two step-grandsons, four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include his children: Edwin Minard and wife Donna of Council Bluffs, IA; Dorothy Compton and husband Gene of Tucson, AZ; Clyde Minard and wife Ursula of Norwalk, IA; Darlene Garrett and husband Wayne of Altoona, IA; Ron Minard and wife Madonna of Cabot, AR; John Minard and wife Teresa of Clarinda; Elaine Luzmoor and husband Richard of Clarinda; twenty grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Hawleyville Cemetery.

DONALD SMITH HELLER

Funeral services for Donald Heller of Corydon, IA were held Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Markum officiating.

Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery . Donald Smith Heller, son of Carl and Ida (Porter) Heller, was born in New Market, IA, on October 7, 1928, and passed away on May 19, 2003, at the Corydon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Corydon, IA.

Don was united in marriage to Rhoda Patricia Joy Peck in 1973 in Des Moines, IA. Rhoda preceded him in death on September 19, 1997. Don was a graduate of Villisca High School in Villisca, IA, and of Central College in Pella, IA. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Army. He lived most of his life in Des Moines, where he was head of security at Broadlawn Hospital for 25 years. After his retirement, he and Rhoda moved to Mercer, MO in 1992, where he was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a stepson, Harold Clark. He is survived by three stepsons: William Cousins and Burton Clark and wife Martha of Mercer, MO; and Richard Clark of Kansas City, MO; a stepdaughter, Karen McCrea and husband Roy of Cummings, IA; seven step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; three brothers: Wilbur, Darwin, and Murle; and two sisters, Eleanor and Dorothy.
