ENFIELD, Ill. — Douglas Glen “John L.” Kirk, 86, formerly of Enfield, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Decatur Memorial Hospital.
He had worked as a clerk for Electro Motive in LaGrange.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in France.
He was a member of the Enfield Christian Church and Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are four daughters, Joyce Lundy of Normal, Jacqueline Lund of Morris, Alana Studebaker of Decatur, Dana Naber of Healdsburg, Calif.; two sons, James Mansfield of Morris and Glen of Byron; 10 grandchildren, Diane Severson, Melissa Cremer, Leslie Teberend, John Lund, Stephanie Gubelman, Judy Shaw, Christopher and Jennifer Kirk, Niki Voss and Lisa Shaw; and 12 great-grandchildren.
His wife, Florence, died in 1993.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Elledge Funeral Home, with burial in Enfield cemetery.

Edith Rose
CARRIER MILLS, Ill. — Edith E. Rose, 90, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Stonefort.
Surviving are two stepdaughters, Alice Roe of Pittsburgh and Mabel Hill of Stonefort; two sons, Frank Cobb of Carmi and Robert Cobb of McLeansboro; two stepsons, Arthur Lewis of Vienna and Leman Lewis of Michigan; two granddaughters; stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Cobb, Ralph Lewis and Elvis Rose, two stepdaughters and a stepson.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Felty Funeral Home, with burial in Little Saline cemetery in Stonefort.

Orin Laughlin
CISNE, Ill. — Orin A. Laughlin, 88, of rural Rinard, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
He was a farmer and member of the First Baptist Church in Flora.
Surviving are a daughter, Doris Nichols of Anaheim, Calif.; two sons, Dale of Flora and Darrell of Cisne; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
His wife, Sylvia Lucille, died in 1997.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hosselton Funeral Home, with burial in Willow Branch cemetery.

Betty Hershberger
MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. — Betty Lou (Beckerman) Hershberger, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Wabash General Hospital.
Since 1984, she had owned and operated Betty’s Shop in Mount Carmel and retired as an inspector for Snap-On Tools.
She was a member of the First Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Goodson and Betty Louise Taylor, both of Mount Carmel; four brothers, Robert Beckerman of Anderson, Ind., Raymond Beckerman of Downey, Calif., Virgil Beckerman of Princeton, Ind., and William Beckerman of Mount Carmel; seven grandchildren, Tonya Murphy, Anthony, Jarrod and Damon Banks, J.R. and Mark Goodson and Stephen Taylor; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God in Mount Carmel, with burial in Highland Memorial cemetery.

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ill. — Sally Mariah Hutson, daughter of Susan Atkinson and Jeffrey Hutson, both of Elizabethtown, was stillborn Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Also surviving are a sister, Emillee Atkinson of Rosiclare; her grandparents, Richard Pool of Elizabethtown and Nancy and Larry E. Hutson; and great-grandparents.
Graveside services were Monday in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Golconda.
Shandra Winchester
STONEFORT, Ill. — Shandra Kay Winchester, 17, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home of cancer.
She was a senior at Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School and attended several churches.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Cindy and Jerry Gulley of Stonefort; her father and stepmother, Mark and Michele Winchester of Sandwich; two stepsisters, Jennifer Hartley of Sandwich and Dezrea Culley of Stonefort; a brother, Troy of Stonefort; a stepbrother, Jeremy Gulley of Stonefort; her grandfathers, Don Winchester and Dale Milligan; and a niece.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Felty Funeral Home Carrier Mills Chapel, with burial in the Trammell cemetery in Stonefort.

WAYNE CITY, Ill. — Jerry Meritt, 60, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
He was co-owner of Quality Trucking.
He was an active member and trustee of Bailey Arrington Prairie General Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Kay; a daughter, Kristie Meritt of Wayne City; two sons, Kendall and Kerry, both of Wayne City; a half brother, Virgil Simpson of Marion; and a grandson, Zachery Meritt.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Arrington Prairie General Baptist Church, with burial in Thomason cemetery.

CISNE, Ill. — Opal V. Bailey, 84, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Cisne Health Care Center.
She retired as a nurse’s aide.
She was a member of the Cisne Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis Weaver of Belleville and Brenda Hoover of Indianapolis; four sons, Elmer of Cisne, Gary of Wayne City, Marvin of Dover Hill, Ind., and Len of Belleville; a brother, Lawrence of Mount Vernon; 18 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Woodrow, died in 1967.

NEW HAVEN, Ill. — Flossie M. Acord, 73, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, of cancer at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
She was a member of the Miracle Temple Church in Wasson.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde; two daughters, LaVeda Friedman of Evansville and Sandra Ellison of Norris City; a son, Charles of New Haven; a sister, Irene Carney of New Haven; and a grandchild, Roger Davis.

RIDGWAY, Ill. — Crystal (Dietz) Richmond, 32, of Fairbury, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, as the result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Fairbury.
She was Catholic.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas; two daughters, Felicia Friend of Ridgway and Breanna Richmond of Fairbury; her mother, Janet Dietz of Ridgway; her father, Bob Dietz of Equality; a sister, Nancy Dietz of Ridgway; three brothers, Jeff of Harrisburg, Dirk of Norris City and Terry of Pontiac; and her grandmother, Rosalie Baker. Her son, Jordan Friend, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in the St. Joseph cemetery in Equality.

Dorothy Walker
FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Dorothy F. Walker, 91, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
She was an elementary school teacher for 35 years, 19 years in one-room schools. Surviving are two daughters, Alice Horton of Fairfield and Marie Brockett of Norris City; a son, James of Watseka; a brother, Earl Smith of Oakland; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Alva. died in 1975.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fairfield First Baptist Church, with burial in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
