SPARTA -- Mark Steven Shoemaker, 42, of Sparta, born Nov. 2, 1960, in Belleville, entered into eternal rest by the grace of God on Feb. 28 in the year of our Lord 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nellie (nee Duncan) Shoemaker, three sisters and one brother in childhood. Mr. Shoemaker is survived by Greg Holt-Shoemaker; brothers and sisters, Lucille and husband Bill Hassard, Michael and wife Jean Shoemaker, Phyllis and husband Mike Thurman, Eddie and wife Betty Shoemaker, Patricia and husband John Buehler, Evelyn and husband Mark Breakfield and Jacqueline and husband Steven Holt; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He will also be missed by many dear friends. Memorials may be made to Bethany Place, 821 West A Street, Belleville, Ill., 62220. Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. today, March 5, 2003, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. today, March 5, 2003, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville. According to his wishes, Mr. Shoemaker will be cremated. George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville is in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Deion Bryan
ALTO PASS -- Clifford Deion Bryan, 64, died at 3:37 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He was born on Jan. 16, 1939, in Alto Pass, the son of Clifford G. "Dick" and Luis Meadows Bryant. He married Opal Patricia Gibson on Sept. 29, 1961, in Cobden. She survives. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Alto Pass and Operating Engineers Local No. 318. He is survived by his wife, Pat Bryant of Alto Pass; a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Matt Weldon of Alto Pass; two sons, Keven Deion Bryan and Patrick Waylon Bryant, both of Alto Pass; his mother, Lula Bryant of Carbondale; three sisters, Dorothy Brust of Ullin, Freda Clutts of Vergennes, and Donna Stouthamer of Peoria; two grandchildren, Chasta Nicole and Cherokee Dakota Weldon; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, and two sisters, Delores Scheffer and Darla Bryant. Services for Clifford Deion Bryan will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass, with the Revs. Davy Miller, Danny Miller and Perry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

MOUNT VERNON -- Kathleen Donoho, 79, died at 4:20 a. m., Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Jeffersonian Care Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Hughey Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Shores officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P. O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, IL 62864.

OLIVE BRANCH -- Martha M. Coker, 70, died at 7:30 a.m. at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Carl Hester officiating. Burial will bw in Oak Grove Cemetery in Charleston, Mo. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Lisa Kit Ching Lam
CARBONDALE -- Lisa Kit Ching Lam, 58, of Chicago, formerly of Carbondale, died at 6:38 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. According to the family wishes, there will be a private viewing and then Lisa Kit Ching Lam will be cremated. McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of arrangements.

Florence Redeker
NEW MINDEN -- Florence H. Redeker, 90, died at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the Carlyle Health Care Center in Carlyle. Arrangements are pending at the Styninger-Krupp Funeral Home in Nashville.

Georgia Gregory
MOUNT VERNON -- Georgia E. Gregory, 83, died at 11:38 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, at the home of her son in Walnut Hill. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Floyd Hatcher
CUTLER -- Floyd "Marvin" Hatcher, 74, of Festus, Mo., formerly of Cutler, died Monday, March 3, 2003, in Festus, Mo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Tri-County Pentecostal Church in Cutler, with the Rev. Richard Gaetz officiating. Burial will be in the Cutler City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mahn Funeral Home, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville and from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Joseph Taylor
MOUNT VERNON -- Joseph Ray Taylor, 65, died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, March, 4, 2003, at the Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hughley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Shelton officiating. Burial will be in the Richview Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Velma Wilson
BONNIE -- Velma Wilson, 90, died at 8:54 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Hughley Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Jesse Allen and Rev. Charles Frost officiating. Burial will be in the South Hickory Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the South Hill Cemetery.

MOUNDS -- Lila J. Childers, 75, died at 5:35 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, at her home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the Barkett Funeral Home in Mounds, with the Rev. John Windings officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nadine C. Wohlwend
MARION -- Ruth Nadine (Chamness) Wohlwend, 84, of Bloomington, formerly of Marion, died at 7:01 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the OSF St. Joseph's Medical Center in Bloomington. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2003, at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with her nephew, the Rev. J. Alan Chamness, officiating. A commitment service will follow in the Goddard chapel at the Rose Hill Cemetery. Entombment will be in the Wohlwend family mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A celebration of life memorial service will also be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, in the Social Center of the Westminster Village in Bloomington. Memorials may be made to the Westminster Village Foundation, 2025 East Lincoln, Bloomington, IL 61704; where she most recently resided, the Community Cancer Center, 407 East Vernon Avenue, Normal, IL 61761, or a charity of the donor's choice. She was born June 17, 1918, in Marion, the daughter of Clarence and Bertha (Clarida) Chamness. She married Lawrence J. "L. J." Wohlwend on Sept. 2, 1939, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death. She spent most of her life in Marion, moving to Bloomington upon the death of her husband, to be closer to her family. She enjoyed an excellent quality of life while residing in Bloomington at the willows, maintaining independence in her own duplex on the property of the Westminster Village retirement community. Survivors include three sons, Ronald L. and wife Jackie of Morris; John J. and wife Jan of Bloomington; and Bruce and wife Michelle of Sugarland, Texas; one sister, Juanita and husband Andy Angell, of Rockford; one brother-in-law, Lester and wife Mildred Wohlwend, of Benton; five grandchildren, Laura Glenn, Mary Olson, David Wohlwend, Tyler Wohlwend, and Tess Wohlwend; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Taylor and Jack Glenn. Other survivors include four nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John C. "J.C." Chamness and her sister, Maxine Carroll. She was most recently a member of Vale Baptist Church in Bloomington and was for most of her life an active member of the First Baptist Church in Marion. Nadine was a homemaker raising her three sons, while helping her husband, L. J. originate the Wohlwend Motor and Equipment Company, Westernaire Estates and Westernaire Plaza subdivisions, Wohlwend Farms and the Bank of Egypt, all in Marion. She supported her husband and their sons with their passion for outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and golfing . Nadine and L. J. also enjoyed spending many years together while at their winter home near Okeechobee, Fla. after his retirement. Nadine was a 50 year plus member of the Marion Woman's Club and the University of Illinois Home Extension, a past member of the Marion Clio Club; in 1964, she organized the Westernaire Estates Homemaker group and remained as a charter member until she moved to Bloomington. She was very active in Bible study at the Marion First Baptist Church and later at the Vale Baptist Church in Bloomington and enjoyed the meeting of the Bloomington-Normal Christian Women's Club. She was also a Bloomington-Normal guild member of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Bloomington-Normal Women's Club.

Warren Bankson, Sr.
OLMSTED -- Warren Merrel Bankson, Sr., 82, of Malvern, Ariz., formerly of Olmsted, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003. The service was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the Regency Funeral Home Chapel and Brother Wesley Howard officiated. Full Masonic rites were provided by Rockport Masonic Lodge 58. Lucille Hightower
MARION -- Lucille Holmes Hightower, 92, of Marion, passed away at 7:40 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. She was born on March 19, 1910, in Carrier Mills, the daughter of James M. and Stella (Beggs) Holmes. Lucille was united in marriage to Jefferson Autie Hightower on Dec. 23, 1933, in Harrisburg. Together they have enjoyed nearly seventy years of marriage. After her marriage, Lucille became the bookkeeper and office manager for the family business, Hightower's Radio and Refrigeration of Marion. She remained in that position working along side of her husband for the next forty-five years until her retirement in 1979. Lucille was a member of Second Baptist Church of Marion for many years. She is survived by her husband, Autie Hightower of Marion; daughter, Nancy L. Green of Anna; two granddaughters, Kathy R. McFadden and her husband, Richard, of Marion and Cynthia A. Green of Carbondale; two great grandchildren, Christopher Hunt of Ft. Meyers, Fla. and Kelly Deaton of Marion. Also surviving are many other family members and many lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Billy G. Hightower on July 31, 2002; three brothers, Henry Holmes on July 12, 1965, Floyd R. Holmes on Jan. 3, 1981, and J. B. Holmes on Aug. 3, 1981; two sisters, Effie Jane Wilson on May 29, 1982 and Genevieve Holland in August of 1986. Service for Lucille Holmes Hightower will be at 11 a.m. today, March 5, 2003, in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with Gordon Lambert officiating. The visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 4 at the funeral home. For those who wish memorials, in memory of Lucille, may take the form of contributions to Second Baptist Church Building Fund and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home P. O. Box 370, Marion, Ill., 62959. Memorial contribution envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Those needing additional information may contact the funeral home by calling 618-993-2131.

Jack L. Brown
ROYALTON -- Jack L. "Papa Jack" Brown, 67, of Royalton and formerly of Carterville, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Herrin Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Riggin- Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Donald Maas officiating. Visitation will be after 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Jack was born on April 20, 1935, in DeSoto to Harry and Mary Reed Brown. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deb and Larry English of Divernon; son, Jeff Brown of Akron, Colo.;companion and friend, Pat Basinger of Royalton; two sisters, Wanda Brown and Ruth Brown, both of Carterville; brother, Noah "Dude" Brown of Herrin; granddaughter and her spouse, Myra and Paul Pomeroy of Chatham; and four grandsons, Dylan Davidson, Jason Kemp, Drake Pomeroy, and Aydin Pomeroy, all of Chatham. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Michelle Barnes; sister, Mary Wemmer; two brothers, Bill and Jim Brown. Jack was a farmer and auto mechanic. He worked at Landmark Ford in Springfield for many years. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to go deer hunting, fishing, and playing horseshoes, as well as going bowling. Jack was an accomplished guitarist and an avid CB'er whose handle was Drifter. Memorial contributions can be made to Jack's family.

CREAL SPRINGS -- Clyde "Pedrow" Hawkins, 91, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at the Saline Care Center in Harrisburg. Arrangements are incomplete at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

Roberta L. Ray
HURST -- Roberta L. Ray, 59, passed away 3 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2003, from complications related to ALS Disease (Lou Gehrig's Disease) at her residence in Hurst. Mrs. Ray formerly managed the Jasper 8 Cinema in Jasper, Ind., and the Madison 6 Cinema in Madison, Ind., and was the former owner and operator, with her husband, Richard, of R & R Dog Supply in Madison, Ind. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Herrin. She was born July 18, 1943 in Madison, Ind., to Thomas R. and Lula (Anderson) Brooks. Roberta was united in marriage with Richard R. Ray on July 23, 1960, in Clear Springs, Ind. . He survives of Hurst. She is also survived by a daughter, Terri Wade of Herrin; granddaughter, Jessica Wade of Herrin; five sisters, Francis Brooks of Hurst, Ann Daniels of St. Louis, Edith Blinton of Columbus, Ind., Mary Ball of Indiana, and Elizabeth Brooks of Madison, Ind.; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Judy Brooks of Madison, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; two brothers, Arthur and Henry Brooks; and a sister, Phyllis Jean Brooks. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Morgan-Webster & Nay Funeral Home in Madison, Ind., with Pastor Steve Perry officiating. Burial will be in Spring Dale Cemetery in Madison, Ind. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Morgan-Webster & Nay Funeral Home; from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Becher & Kluesner Funeral Home North Chapel in Jasper, Ind.; and from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home. Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, has assisted the family with local arrangements and coordinating the funeral service and visitations for Mrs. Ray.
