SCHELLER -- The Rev. Louie Hanna, 93, died at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 3, 2005, in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon. Arrangements are pending at Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser.

Shannon Fletcher

MARION -- Shannon Fletcher, 60, of Marion, passed away at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Danny Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 5, 2005, at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. today by Masonic Lodge 89 AF and AM. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. military rites will be held in the cemetery by VFW Post No. 1301 and American Legion Post No. 147. Memorials may be made to the Jacksonville Heart and Lung Transplant Support Group, Elks Crippled Children Foundation or to the donor's choice; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Fletcher was born on March 4, 1944, in Corinth, to Glen and Lori (Grant) Fletcher. He married Sandie Allen on March 9, 1968, in Marion and she survives. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John and Chris Fletcher of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Shandie and Rusty Deaton of Marion; two grandchildren, Colter Deaton and Emma Fletcher; brother and sister-in-law, Roland and Darlene Fletcher; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Alma Allen; brother-in-law, Don Eberhardt; second daughter, Dawne Baril; many beloved friends; and his second family of organ transplant recipients in Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, John Allen; second son, Matthew W. Burkett; and dear friend, Bill Fick. Shannon proudly served his country in the sixth Airborne Green Beret Special Forces during the Vietname War. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 89 AF & AM as a 32nd degree Mason, the Marion Elks Lodge No. 800, the Carpenters Local and the United Mine Workers of America. He worked as a carpenter and he was a coal miner. A special thanks to Chuckie, who was our lung donor. He gave us a good year with no regrets.

Lynda L. Hawkins

MARION -- Lynda L. Hawkins, 66, died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. She was born on Dec. 13, 1938, in Marion, to Charles Herbert and Velda Mae (Bloodworth) Miner. She was active in volunteering at TCT Ministries in Marion. She enjoyed teaching her family about the Bible. She also enjoyed painting. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Mary Miner of Marion and Vernon and Angelene Heid of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, Steven and Aaron Nebel, both of Hammond, Ind., and Taryn, Nicholas, Chance, Lexus, Torri and Brylee Heid, all of Cape Girardeau; one great-grandchild, Sahra Nebel of Hammond, Ind.; one sister, Shelbey Jean Miner-Norman of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Helton officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Evadene Howell

SESSER -- Evadene Howell, 83, died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at home. There will be no public services or visitation. Ms. Howell will be cremated as per her request. Private family services will be at a later date. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.

Sadie M. Marks

JOHNSTON CITY -- Sadie M. Marks, 56, of Johnston City, passed away at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Herrin Hospital. Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 5, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Creal Springs, with the Rev. Earl Webb and Pastor Oral Perry officiating. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Marks was born on March 4, 1948, in Creal Springs, to James and Lura (Malcolm) Marks. She married Roy Marks on Jan. 28, 1966, in Williamson County; he preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1998. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Judy Marks of Winchester, Randall and Beth Marks and Eric and Julie Marks all of Creal Springs, Elmer and Dana Marks of New Burnside, and Spencer Marks of Florida; 10 grandchildren; mother, Lura Marks of Creal Springs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Dorothy Marks, David Marks, George and Kirsten Marks, Glenn Marks and Abraham Marks all of Marion; sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Robert Lindsey, Judy and Terry Pearce and Vivian and Glenn Felts all of Creal Springs; special companion, Larry Giovanetti; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; husband; grandson, Dustin Marks; brother, Richard Marks; and step-father, Bill Marks. Mrs. Marks was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Creal Springs. She loved to go fishing, sing and listening to music.

Gerami D'Shawn Wright

CAIRO -- Gerami D'Shawn Wright, 10, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Services will be at noon Thursday, Jan. 6, in Klondike Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ in Cairo. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Heavenly Gates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Herbert Vaughn

WEST FRANKFORT -- Herbert Vaughn, 76, died at 10:10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Arnold Wilson

CHESTER -- Arnold Eugene Wilson, 53, died at 8:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 5, in Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Phillip Keeton and Pastor Mike Herrell officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association, the American Lung Association or the family choice.

Melissa Roper

CENTRALIA -- Melissa Renae Roper, 23, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Centralia, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Louisville from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Boggs Chapel of Styninger-Pacey Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brad Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Little Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the choice of the donor and will be accepted by the funeral home.

Alma Bogan

DAHLGREN -- Alma F. Bogan, 89, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dahlgren United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gary Whipple officiating. Burial will be in Lowery Hill Cemetery near Dahlgren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lucille Howe

BOAZ -- Lucille Howe, 98, of Beaver Dam, Wis., formerly of Boaz, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Hillside Manor Care Center at Beaver Dam. Arrangements are incomplete at the Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak.

Steve Szczeblewski

MULKEYTOWN -- Steve Szczeblewski, 88, died at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, in Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Rose O'Keefe

CARRIER MILLS -- Rose O'Keefe, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Arrangements are pending at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.

Lolita Morales

CARBONDALE -- Lolita Morales, infant daughter of Martin Morales of Murphysboro and Elizabeth Shannon of Carbondale, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Arrangements are incomplete at Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel, old Illinois 13 between Carbondale and Murphysboro.

Ronald Harper

ZEIGLER -- Ronald Harper, 67, died at 2:08 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Arrangements are incomplete at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort.

Betty Taylor

ANNA -- Betty M. Taylor, 79, died at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Arrangements are incomplete at Crain Funeral Home in Anna.

Boyd Murphy Sr.

WEST FRANKFORT -- Boyd Murphy Sr., 77, died at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at home. It was his wish to be cremated. There will be no visitation or services. Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort is in charge of arrangements.

Ollie Marie Peterson

BUNBOMBE -- Ollie Marie Peterson, 100, of Decatur, formerly of Bunbombe, passed away Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the residence of her great-niece, Geniel Grabowski, in Decatur, where Ollie Marie had made her home for a number of years. She was born on April 7, 1904, on the family homestead near Buncombe. She was the daughter of Charles Peterson and Alice (Elkins) Peterson. Ollie Marie was never married. She leaves to cherish her memory a niece-in-law, Helen Peterson, along with her children, Prudence, Geniel and Michael; six great-grand nieces and nephews; five great-great-grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ollie Marie was preceded in death by a brother, Orb Peterson; a niece, Polly Peterson and a nephew, Paul Peterson. Ollie Marie was a graduate of SIU Normal University in Carbondale. She was a retired educator, having taught for more than 43 years in the Kankakee, Red Bud and Goreville school systems. Ollie Marie was an 80-year member of the Goreville Chapter No. 1009 Order of the Eastern Star. An Eastern Star service, under the auspices of Goreville Chapter No. 1009 O. E. S. will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. The funeral service will be conducted immediately following the Eastern Star service. Interment will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Mary Bain Wooten

CARBONDALE -- Mary Bain Wooten, 84, of Harrington, Del., formerly of Carbondale, passed away at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Delaware. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Grace United Methodist Church, Carbondale, with the Rev. Sally Hamon officiating. Interment will be in Snider Hill Cemetery, Carbondale. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. Mary was born on March 13, 1920, in Carbondale, to John Herman and Mamie Nellie (White) Bain. She married John L. Wooten in 1941 at Jackson, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1984. She is also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Ann and John R. Brooks of Harrington, Del.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Jean Elam of Ramsey, N.J. Mary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carbondale. She was a home-maker and did baby sitting.

Adella Reese

CHRISTOPHER -- Adella Reese, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, in the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Christopher, with Brother Bob Furlow officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Reese was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Christopher. She was born on Dec. 29, 1918, to Leon and Sophia Bizeski. She married David Reese, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include one nephew, Douglas Reese of Mulkeytown. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Thomas E. 'Pete' Huggins

GOREVILLE -- Thomas E. 'Pete' Huggins, 84, of Goreville, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2004, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville, with the Rev. Michael Henson officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery in Goreville. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Herrin. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Huggins was born on Feb. 9, 1920, in Arbyrd, Mo., to Joseph and Marie (Toler) Huggins. He married Mabel Barner on Dec. 17, 1946, in Lafe, Ark. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2002. Survivors include sons, David and Gloria Huggins of New Columbia, Dale Huggins of Goreville; daughters, Linda and Bill Huggins, of Jonesboro, Ark., Anne and John Partney of Van Buren, Mo., Carol and Dan Harry of Collinsville, Donna Fine of Seattle; grandchildren, Bethany Harry, Nathan Harry, Timothy Harry and Alicia Harry, Jacob Huggins and Jayci Huggins, Jonelle Germain, Chris Germain, Andy and Diana Partney; brother, Dean and Jenny Huggins of Arkansas; sister, Bea and Jim Blackwell of Goreville, Martha and Jack Davis of Goreville, Iva and Erwin Nething of Arkansas, Betty Collins of Colorado, Barbara and Larry Mains of Ohio, Janelle Haupt of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Huggins and J. E. Huggins; one sister, Rosemary Huggins. Mr. Huggins served his country in the Army during World War II.

Pauline Bean

HERRIN -- Pauline Bean, 76, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at home in Herrin. She was born on Nov. 8, 1928, in Bumpus Mill, Tenn., to Harvey and Sara (Wallace) Cheatham. She married William A. Bean on Dec. 12, 1943. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1983. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her daughter, Viola Sue 'Susie' Rosenow of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy Lou and Darrel Hendrick of St. Louis; son, Paul Bean of Herrin; daughter-in-law, Edna Bean of Weaver, Ala.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruby and husband Robert Bandy of Herrin, Opel Smith of Herrin Vergie Smith of Herrin and Reva and husband Donald Cutsinger of Battle Creek, Mich. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son William Arthur Bean, granddaughter Cindy Sue Hendrick, grandson Alexander Bernard Rosenow, brothers Gilbert, Edison and Albert Cheatham; sisters, Lizzy Murrey, Maysil Robison and Madeline Ezell. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terry Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

METROPOLIS -- Reba Legereitt, 88, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Metropolis Rehab Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Metropolis, with the Rev. Ronald Schreiffer and Ashley Legereitt officiating. Interment will be in Massac Memorial Gardens in Metropolis. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Novinsky

HERRIN -- Louise Novinsky, 78, of Herrin, passed away at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Athens Hospital in Athens, Ala. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund and may be sent: co Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, Illinois 62959. Mrs. Novinsky was born on Sept. 15, 1926, in Williamson County, to Louis and Emma (Lenavti) Rubinelli. She married Tony Novinsky in Missouri, on Aug. 12, 1944. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1980. Survivors include her son, Tony Louis and Pam Novinsky of Johnston City; daughters, Patricia Fisher of Herrin, Lucinda and Edward Hines of Johnston City, Stephanie and Larry Hewlett of Woodstock, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Dena Handegan of Taylorville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
