GREEN VALLEY ~ Helen Elizabeth Talbot, 80, of 121 Country Drive, Green Valley, died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2001 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born February 2, 1921 in Streator to Perry Edwin and Lillian Dale Merriner Hawkins, she married the Rev. Eugene Burt "Bud" Talbot on February 24, 1938 in Streator. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sandra L. (Charles) Lauss of Green Valley, Judith L. (Charles) Holmes of Yucca Valley, California and Helen Geanne (David) Cruz of Chatsworth, California; one son, David Paul (Emly) Talbot of Palm Dale, California; twenty-four grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and one sister, N. Virginia Broad of Streator.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandson and two sisters.
During World War II, Mrs. Talbot worked in a munition plant at Dupont Potter in Seneca. She then worked in interior decorating for Brunsman’s in Belleville. She last worked for David’s Clothing in Yucca Valley while living in California.
She supported and helped her husband in his ministry.
She was a member of the Creve Coeur Christian Church and its Young at Heart Club.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at Creve Coeur Christian Church. The Rev. John E. Plunkett, Rev. Jeff Browning and Rev. Kenneth Broad will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 until time of services Wednesday at the church. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Riverview Cemetery in Streator.
Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

BETTY L. POINDEXTER
(1927~2001)
PEKIN ~ Betty Lorraine Poindexter, 73, of 444 South Parkway Drive, Apartment 411 died at 4:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2001 at her home.
Born October 13, 1927 in Pekin to Frank A. and Ida Josephine Vasconcelles Perkins, she married Adolph Long on June 9, 1946 in Pekin. She later married Donald Poindexter in Havana.
Surviving are one son, David Al (Beverly) Long of Havana; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Denice (Ed) Ray, of Havana and Donna Sue (Brian) Cline of Heyworth; four grandchildren, Jonathan Kolves of Peoria, Haleigh Ray of Havana, Yvonne Long of Peoria and Deanne Smith of Havana; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles A. Perkins of Chicago and one sister, Norma Jean Lester of Pekin.
One daughter, Sue Carol Gschwend, preceded her in death on September 4, 1970 in Pekin.
Mrs. Poindexter was last employed as a bartender at Ivanhoe’s in Havana, retiring in 1984 after three ½ years. She previously had worked for Weddle’s IGA Food Store in Havana and owned and operated a cleaning service in Pekin from 1955-65.
Cremation will be accorded. There will be no visitation or services. Burial of ashes will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

PEKIN ~ Margaret Kathleen "Kathy" Owens Clark, 51, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died at 9:05 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2001 in Las Vegas. She was formerly of Pekin.
She was born September 28, 1949 in Pekin to Jerry and Florene Cockerham Layne.
Surviving are her mother, Florene Nichol of Pekin; her father and step-mother, Jerry and Ruby Layne of Pekin; three sons, Lonnie L. Owens of Pekin, Ronnie R. (Lisa) Owens of Topeka and Brian K. Dorsey of Pekin; two daughters, N. Lynn Owens of Pekin and Lisa A. (Herb) Adams of Rhinelander, Wisconsin; one step-son, Terry Dorsey of Delavan; nineteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, G. Stephen (Susie) Layne of Manito and three sisters, Terianne (Craig) Montgomery of Chickasha, Oklahoma, Deborah Jo Nichol of Pekin, and Niki L. Houston of Springfield, Missouri; and 2 half-sisters, Christy (Pete) Shaw and Gerri (Bill) Garcia, both of Pekin.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Marion Lloyd Nichol.
She enjoyed cooking, music, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Jeannette L. Becker will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.

CARL W. WEBER
(1930~2001)
EAST PEORIA ~ Carl William Weber, 71, a prominent East Peoria businessman, of 819 East Camp Street, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
Born March 4, 1930 in Dawson to Carl Joseph and Hazel Irene McGath Weber, he married Edna Elizabeth Frye on June 26, 1949 in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Janet I. (Don) Cantelo of Mokena and Carla L. (David) Armstrong of East Peoria; two sons, Rev. Stephen W. (Marsha) Weber of Peoria and Timothy C. (Jeannette) Weber of Watertown, Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one sister, Jacqueline (Lewis) Woods of Bloomington and one brother, James (Shirley) Weber of Morton.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jane Elizabeth Moore on November 23, 1992 in Shelbyville, Indiana.
He was the owner and operator of Carl’s Bakery located at 819 East Camp Street in East Peoria for 45 years. He previously worked as a machinist at Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for 18 years.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Bible Church in Peoria, where he formerly served the church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2001 at Calvary Baptist Bible Church in Peoria. The Rev. Stephen W. Weber, his son, will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and also 30 minutes before services Saturday, both at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel.

CHARLOTTE IRVING COATS

MORTON—Charlotte M. Irving Coats, 81, of 191 E. Queenwood Rd. died at 5:50 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2001 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born August 21, 1920 in Canton, IL, she was the daughter of Leo S. and Velva Hall Miller. She married William D. Irving on May 14, 1936 in Peoria. He died on September 13, 1958. She later married Dennis D. Coats on September 10, 1960 in Bloomington.
Also preceding in death were 1 daughter, Shirley Ball; 1 brother; and 2 grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband; 3 sons, Gary (Julie) Irving of Pekin, Bill (Linda) Irving, Jr. of Hanna City, and Robert E. Irving; 3 daughters, Linda Frampton of Pekin, Debra Walker of Peoria, and Bobbie (Larry) Banning of Farmington; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Charles Miller of Farmington, Billy D. (June) Miller of Hanna City, and Larry Miller of Mapleton.
A homemaker, Mrs. Coats was a member of LaMarsh Baptist Church and enjoyed playing the organ and accordian.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Claud Slate will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.

DOROTHY M. WEAVER

PEKIN ~ Dorothy Mae Weaver, 72, of 204 North 9th Street, Pekin, died at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2001 at her residence.
Born January 1, 1929 in Jackson, Tennessee to Patrick Michael and Lucy Estelle Hopper Magee, she married Elvis Dwayne Weaver on January 30, 1949 in Corinth, Mississippi. He survives.
Also surviving are one son, Michael Wayne (Debra) Weaver of Pekin; four daughters, Shelia F. Weaver, Shirley M. Weaver, and Terri J. (Rob) Stewart, all of Pekin, and Patricia A. (Brad) Bradley of Greenwood, Indiana; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Irene Dewitt of Pekin.
Her parents and two brothers (Thomas J. Magee and David L. Magee) preceded her in death.
Mrs. Weaver had worked in the kitchen at Westbrook’s Restaurant in Pekin and later at Pekin Hospital. She then worked in receiving at Murphy Mart in Pekin. She last was the manager of the Dolly Madison Store in Irving, Texas for 5 years, retiring in 1990.
She attended Grace Baptist Church in Pekin.
She enjoyed canning.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Greg Mansur will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

MILDRED MCMULLIN

PEKIN ~ Mildred Jane "Midge" McMullin, 70, of 1205 Lincoln Street, Pekin, died at 9:23 a.m. Sunday, December 9, 2001 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born February 10, 1931 in Peoria to Robert and Minnie Cain Gebhart, she married Albert Carl Cline on January 31, 1953 in Great Falls, Montana. He died March 14, 1966 in Springfield, Missouri. She later married James Joseph McMullin on November 24, 1967 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother of West Peoria; one daughter, Debra K. Cline of Peoria; one son, Mark J. McMullin of Pekin; one grandson, Kyle J. McMullin of Pekin; one sister, Betty (Walter) Dozard of East Peoria; one niece; and four nephews.
Her father and one brother (David Gebhart) preceded her in death.
Mrs. McMullin had worked at the Pekin Community High School’s East Campus in the cafeteria and later in the library. She then worked as a clerk at Foster & Gallagher in Peoria for 15 years, retiring in 1996. She last worked for Kyle’s Home Care Services in Pekin for 4 years, last working in April of 2001.
She was a member of the Pekin Emblem Club #424, where she held many offices.
She enjoyed flower gardening.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. William Venard will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with an Emblem Club service at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

LARRY L. NELSON
(1938~2001)
PEKIN ~ Larry Lee Nelson, 63, of 12 Robin Lane, Pekin, died at 7:10 p.m. December 7, 2001 at Hopedale Hospital in Hopedale.
Born September 2, 1938 in St. Elmo to Lloyd and Zalia Mattlock Nelson, he married Patricia Ann Norris on December 3, 1956 in St. Elmo. She survives.
Also surviving are his father and step-mother, Lloyd and Betty Nelson of Mason; two daughters, Cheri L. (David) Wockley of Pekin and Melody K. Nelson of St. Louis, Missouri; one grandson, Joel M. L. Wockley of Pekin; four brothers, Lyle (Donna) Nelson and Paul (Debbie) Nelson, both of Edgewood, Dale (Glenda) Nelson of Altamont, and Jerry (Sueann) Nelson of Greenville; and three sisters, Rita Mitchell of Billings, Montana, Joyce (Earl) Walters of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Martha Backs of Effingham.
His mother and one infant brother (Floyd Nelson) preceded him in death.
He began working for the McDonald’s Corporation in 1969 in the Champaign/Urbana area as the assistant manager at the Five Points store. In 1980, he moved to Clayton, Missouri and owned and operated three McDonald’s restaurants in the area. He moved to Pekin in January 1, 1990. As President of Larry Nelson Enterprises, he owned and operated the McDonald’s Restaurants in East Peoria, Creve Coeur, North Pekin, and two in Pekin, retiring January 1, 2000.
In 1998, he received the prestigious Ronald McDonald Award for the St. Louis region from the McDonald’s Corporation. He also was the recepitant of the Other’s Award from the Salvation
Army of Pekin.
Mr. Nelson supported many of the area fire departments with donations of food for fundraising and food for firefighters at fire and emergency scenes. He was a major contributor of the Pekin Firefighter’s Local 524 Mobile Fire Safety House and Pekin Police Department’s First K-9 dog. He also helped in fundraising for the East Peoria Fire Department’s CAIRNS IRIS Helmets.
His community support of activities included Mason Civic Center, Mason Cemetery, Pekin Main Street, Toys for Tots, Pekin Union Mission, Hopedale Medical Complex, Tazewell County Health Department Cardboard Recycling Program, Youth Baseball Leagues in North Pekin, Creve Coeur, and East Peoria, Pekin Public Library and Fondulac Library Summer Reading Programs, Marquette Heights Library and Manito Library Reading Programs. He also sponsored benefit nights at his McDonald’s Restaurants and coupon booklets for many area charities, schools, and groups. He employed persons with disabilities from the Tazewell County Resource Center (TCRC) in his stores.
He donated food and prizes to Snowball, Snowflake, D.A.R.E. Lock-ins in Creve Coeur, and the After Prom Excitements (A.P.E.) at Pekin and East Peoria Community High Schools. He was a sponsor of the EPCHS Maroon & Gold Card and Creve Coeur Project Success.
His academic support included the North Pekin/Marquette Heights School Supply Drive, Good Student Certificates for schools, Ray A. Kroc Youth Achievement Award at Edison and Broadmoor Junior High Schools in Pekin, Ronald McDonald educational shows at 12 area schools, and educational materials made available on loan to area schools.
He was the corporate sponsor of the Pekin Holiday Tournament, Pekin Community High School Memorial Stadium improvements, PCHS Marching Band 3 on 3, Pekin Marigold Festival Lip Sync Contest, and co-sponsor of the East Peoria Festival of Lights Photo Contest, where also a float was sponsored.
He was a member of the Pekin Chapter of AMBUCS where he assisted on the annual charity auction and concessions and was awarded the AMBUC of the year. He also was a member of the Pekin Beautification Committee, Pekin Recycling Committee, Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce, where he was a former director, East Peoria Chamber of Commerce, Creve Coeur Business Association, Fondulac Merchants Committee in East Peoria, Tazewell County Health Department Food Advisory Committee, and the Champaign Masonic Lodge. He was a former director of the Salvation
Army in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, December 10, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Terry C. Edele will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
Further services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at the Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood. The Rev. Mark White will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the Pagel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery in Mason.

LOUISE E. McHARG
(1915~2001)
SOUTH PEKIN ~ Louise Elizabeth McHarg, 86, of 209 Meyers Street, South Pekin, died at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin.
Born March 4, 1915 in Pekin to John and Emma Franke Teter, she married Frank McHarg on October 7, 1939 in Pekin. He died January 26, 1989. Three brothers also preceded her in death.
Surviving are four nieces, Lynda Fereira of South Pekin, Joan Boucher of Mackinaw, Dorothy Dailey of Hopedale, and Delores Ragias of Morton; one nephew, Thomas Teter of Aurora; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
A graduate of Eureka College in Eureka, Mrs. McHarg had taught school in Pekin and later in Colorado for many years.
She enjoyed playing golf, traveling, reading, cooking, and painting pictures.
There will be no visitation or services. Cremation will be accorded.
