Virginia Baratto Rice, 76, of West Terre Haute died Friday morning, Feb. 1, 2002, in her residence. She was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Shirkieville to Guerina Baratto and Italia L. Gazzola Baratto. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Robert L. Rice; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Haydee Rice of Zionsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dennis McCleary of Kingwood, Texas; one sister, Angeline Garzolini of Paris, Ill.; four grandchildren, Ryan McCleary, Eric McCleary, Michael Rice and Jonathan Rice; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Remo Baratto; and one sister, Norma Shelton. She was a 1942 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Indiana Business College. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Steve Giannini officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Russell D. Ringham

Russell D. Ringham, 74, of Terre Haute died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a retired materials handler for Stran Steel. He was born Feb. 13, 1927, in Terre Haute to Raymond Ringham and Anna Splittorf Ringham. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Watson Ringham, whom he married Sept. 9, 1950; two sons, Larry Ringham and his wife, Dixie and David Ringham and his wife, Karen, all of Terre Haute; one brother, Carl Ringham; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Raymond Ringham Jr. He was an Army infantry veteran of World War II. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Roush officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. today.

Sadie Nasser Yederlinic

Sadie Nasser Yederlinic, 73, of Terre Haute died at 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Union Hospital, following a brief illness with cancer. She was employed at Joseph's Men's Clothing Store in Terre Haute before moving to New York in 1956. She was born Feb. 23, 1928, in Terre Haute to Thomas J. and Hend Nasser. Survivors include three sisters, Rose Sabb of Hillsboro Beach, Fla., Rachael Ellis of Evansville and Mary Ann Tanoos and her husband Thomas of Terre Haute; and one brother, George T. Nasser and his wife Shirley of Indianapolis; 12 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a graduate of Wiley High School. She lived in Boca Raton, Fla., for 20 years before returning to Terre Haute in October 2001. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with her uncle, the Rev. John Nasser and the Rev. Ron Ashmore officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret Mary Church or to St. George Orthodox Church.

Peggy J. Banninger

ROCKVILLE - Peggy J. Banninger, 50, of Rockville died at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. She was born Feb. 3, 1951, in Hammond to Ernest Banninger and Virginia Miller Banninger. Survivors include two sisters, Terri Reason and Lois Banninger; and nieces and nephews. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Walnut Grove Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Click officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until services Monday in the chapel. Frist Funeral Home in Clinton assisted with arrangements.

John I. Hiatt

CLAY CITY - John I. Hiatt, 80, of Clay City died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was in the insurance and real estate business in Clay City since 1949, along with his father-in-law, Paul W. Mitchell. He retired in 1984, following a massive heart attack. He was born April 22, 1921, in Delaware County to Ira T. Hiatt and Lula May Ritchie Hiatt. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Mitchell Hiatt, whom he married March 21, 1943, in Clay City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanna May and the Rev. M. Ray Deeter of Clay City, and Jillian Rose and Chad Alan Stettler of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren, Michael Deeter, Andrew Deeter, Jennifer Webb and her husband Scott, all of Clay City, Bob Stettler of Boulder, Colo., and Julie Stettler of Breckinridge, Colo.; one great-granddaughter, Shiloh Webb; one foster brother, Glenn W. Schubert and his wife Betty of Yorktown; and two sisters-in-law, Wilma Hiatt of Anderson, and Kathleen Largent and her husband Harry of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Stephen Paul Hiatt; two brothers, Paul W. Hiatt and James R. Hiatt; four nephews; and three nieces. He was a 1939 graduate of Clay City High School and an Army veteran. He was a former resident of Fortville, where he was a purchasing agent for the M&M; Manufacturing Corp. In 1981 he was diagnosed with polymyositis, a progressive neuromuscular disease. He was a faithful member of First Brethren Church of Clay City and had been a moderator for 50 years. He also was a member of Clay City Masonic Lodge Free & Accepted Masons, Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite, the American Legion and Lions Club, both of Clay City. He was past president of the Clay County Insurance Association, was director of the State Insurance Association, director of First National Bank and Trust for 32 years and was trustee of Clay County Hospital for 12 years. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Clouse officiating. Burial is in Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

John J. Mueller

ROCKVILLE - John J. Mueller, 79, of Rockville died at 5:59 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He retired from Farmers Home Administration, following 30 years of service. He was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Madison, Wis., to Joseph Frances Mueller and Mary Catherine Payton Mueller. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Gentry Mueller, whom he married Dec. 15, 1962, in Logansport; one daughter, Marie Mueller of Indianapolis; and one sister, Mary Ellen Lathers of West Bend. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Donald Mueller. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was a sergeant with the 3008th Squadron in the European Theater. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Paul Taylor Post 1752 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church, with the Rev. Joseph Kern officiating. Burial is 3 p.m. Tuesday in Maple Lawn cemetery in Flora. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Barnes Mortuary, with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p.m.

Winnifred Louise Toy Dilg

Winnifred Louise Toy Dilg, 77, of Terre Haute died at 11:35 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Westridge Healthcare. She was a secretary for the Blumberg's. She was born March 27, 1925, in Terre Haute to William J. Toy and Ethel B. Mattox Toy. Her husband, Peter Carl Dilg, died July 9, 2000. Survivors include a special caretaker, Jill Hobert. She was a member of Kerman Grotto and Order of Eastern Star. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel, with Jerry Burns officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Elnora Dixon

Elnora Dixon, 85, of Terre Haute died of natural causes at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born in Scuba, Miss., to George Dixon and Rebecca Naves Dixon. Survivors include one sister, Willa M. Chislom; and several nieces and nephews. Services are noon Tuesday in Dunn Family Mortuary, with the Rev. Allen Dixon officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday.

Lois P. Hazelbarth

Lois Agnes Hazelbarth, 83, of Danville, Ill., and formerly of Terre Haute died at 3:08 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in her residence. She was born Oct. 16, 1919, in West Terre Haute to Josiah Pedlar and Grace May Mason Pedlar. Survivors include her husband, Albert Luther Hazelbarth Jr., whom she married July 14, 1945; three sons, Todd Hazelbarth, Neal A. Hazelbarth and David B. Hazelbarth; and three grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jan Kennedy officiating. Entombment in Sunset Mausoleum. Visitation is 1 p.m. to services Monday in the church.

Luther Gordon Johnson

Luther Gordon Johnson, 80, of Terre Haute died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Union Hospital. He was an attorney, practicing law from 1958 until his retirement in 2001. He was born June 30, 1922, in East Otterbein, Tippecanoe County, Ind., to Earl Leroy Johnson and Grace Odell Stovall Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Struble Johnson, whom he married June 7, 1949; three daughters, Joanne Leslie Johnson of Indianapolis, Diana Louise McCleary and husband David of Farmersburg, and Laurel Lynn Lovely and husband Steve of Cincinnati; two sons, James Leroy Johnson and wife Janis of Dallas and Keith Logan Johnson and wife Susan of Terre Haute; one sister, Ruth Pollard of Lafayette; three grandsons, Eric Logan Johnson and Lucas Ritter Johnson, both of Terre Haute, and Jake Lee Johnson of Dallas; and one step granddaughter, Sarah Jane Meneely of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Alliean Johnson Christensen and Alice Johnson. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Battalion, 21st Marines, 3rd Marine Division from March 1942 to May 1946. He also served as sergeant in the U.S. Army from August 1950 to September 1951 during the Korean War. He graduated from Valparaiso Law School in 1953. He was a claims adjuster for State Farm Mutual Auto Insurance Co. from March 1953 to May 1959. He then joined the law firm headed by Earl M. Mann and Hansford C. Mann, later joined by Buena Chaney. He left the Mann Law Firm in December 1998 to practice law with his son Keith until his retirement Dec. 31, 2001. He was city attorney for Clinton under Mayors John Goldner and Hugh McGill. He was formerly commander of Clinton Civil Defense, a Boy Scout troop leader, and chairman of the Voters' Assembly of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he was a member. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the U.S. Marine Corps League, Joseph Bray Detachment. Services are 10 a.m. Monday in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar St., with the Rev. Philip G. Meyer officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Eric Johnson, Lucas Johnson, David McCleary, Steve Lovely, Hansford C. Mann Jr. and David Jones; honorary pallbearers are the Honorable Charles K. McCrory, the Honorable Harold J. Bitzegaio, Buena Chaney and Donald Gardner. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday in the church. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation, 2901 Ohio Blvd., Suite 153, Terre Haute, IN 47803 or to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 645 Poplar St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Nelda Louise Sheehan

Nelda Louise Sheehan, 79, of Terre Haute died at 11:27 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Union Hospital. She worked for 33 years in the Vigo County Courthouse in the Treasurer's Office and the Auditor's Office. She was born July 9, 1923, in Terre Haute to Fred "Goody" Goodwin and Anna Oates Goodwin. Her husband, Francis "Buddy" Sheehan, died in 1975. Survivors include one daughter, Janice "Tootie" Morris and husband Danny of Terre Haute; three sons, Timothy F. Sheehan and wife Lucy, Patrick J. Sheehan and Michael P. Sheehan, all of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren, Brian Sheehan, Courtney Sheehan, Cari Sheehan, Michael Sheehan, Matt Sheehan, Erin Downey and husband Patrick of Carmel, Renee Patterson and husband Shawn of Valparaiso, Stephanie Bramel and husband Cory of Noblesville, and Danielle Morris; and one great-grandchild, Cameron Patterson. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Parish and the Altar Society of St. Ann's, the Vigo County Democrat Club, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Ann Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ron Ashmore officiating. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers are Danny Morris, Brian Sheehan, Shawn Patterson, Michael Sheehan, Matt Sheehan, Patrick Downey and Cory Bramel; honorary pallbearers are Chuck Hanley and Andy Atelski. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home, with rosary service at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Ashmore officiating.

Fred A. Ash

The Rev. Fred A. Ash 74, of Terre Haute, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003 in his residence. He was pastor of Gospel Tabernacle Church for 18 years. He was born June 20, 1928 in Greencastle to Claude Ash and Eva Bowman Ash. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, B. Deloris Horner Ash; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy Manuel and her husband, Pastor Terry Manuel and Phyllis Bucklew and her husband Mike Pick all of Terre Haute; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Ray Ash and his wife Marsha Ash of Terre Haute; one sister, Loretta Elliott of Billings Mont.; four grandchildren, Dana Bauer and her husband, Fred, Brooke Manuel and her husband Adrian, Heather Hatcher and her husband, Chris, and Devin Ash; three great-grandchildren, Conner, Victoria and Cayne; two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Virginia Ash Kerns. He served in the ministry for more than 50 years. During his career he with the help of his wife, established and built Danville Apostolic Church in Danville, Ind. from 1961-1972 and was Pastor of Home Avenue United Pentecostal Church in Terre Haute from 1972-1981. In addition to being a minister, he also worked at Bridgeport Brass in Indianapolis from 1943-1973 and had been a contractor with the Bemis Co. Inc. from 1987-1994. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Medical Corps. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Gospel Tabernacle Church with the Revs. Tommy Johnson, Terry Manuel, Simeon Young and John Harden and Roger Berry officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery in Greencastle. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Tabernacle Church, 2900 Washington Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803.

Roberta "Sue" Doughty

Roberta "Sue" Doughty, 66, of Terre Haute, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003 in Union Hospital. She was the retired owner of Clean Air Service of Terre Haute. She was born Nov. 9, 1936 in Terre Haute to Prentice Dooley and Elizabeth Neidlinger Dooley. Survivors include her husband, George Doughty; one daughter, Cindy Gregg and her husband Bill of Jessup; one brother, Charles Dooley of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Travis, Ashlyn and Kylie Gregg all of Jessup; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Marine Corps League, Ladies Zorah Temple, and Daughters of the Nile 23. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Taylor officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Donna L. Everhart

JASONVILLE - Donna L. Everhart, 81, of Lewis, died at 8:01 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003 in West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. She was a retired seamstress from Sears. She was born May 9, 1921 in Sullivan County to Earl Sexton and Della Gadberry Sexton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight E. Everhart, who died in 1991. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Denise and James Shields of Linton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Carol Everhart of Clinton, and David and Jane Everhart of Riley; one grandson, David Eric Everhart and wife Monique; one step-grandson, Mike Clodfeller; one sister, Una Mae Beadle of Michigan. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers. She was a member of Briley Chapel Community Church, Homemakers Club of Pierson Township; and was active in Vigo County Farm Bureau Home Economics. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at McClanahan and Lee Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. Interment is in Claiborne cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
