Carolyn I. Florence
Carolyn I. Florence, 85, a resident of the Emily E. Flinn Home in Marion, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday (July 6, 2000) at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis.
Mrs. Florence had lived in Marion, Huntington and Wabash before moving to the home. She graduated from Brian Station High School, Lexington, Ky., in 1934. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Transylvania University, Lexington, Ky., in 1940, and received her master’s degree from Theological Seminary in Lexington, Ky., in 1942.
She was a director of Christian education in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, serving churches in Marion, Huntington, Muncie, and Seymour. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Huntington, and Church Women United. She served on the state board of Christian Women United and the national board of Christian Women Fellowship.
She was born July 19, 1914, in Bethel, Ky., to J. D. Estill and Lora Mace Vice Estill. She married Rev. George L. Florence July 15, 1940, in Lexington, Ky. Her husband died June 7, 1991.
Survivors include two sons, J. Mark Florence of Gas City and Stephen L. Florence of West Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Patricia) Winkelman of Amherst Junction, Wis., and Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Foster of Huntington; two brothers, Dr. Allen Estill of Nashville, Tenn., and Harold Estill of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Ethel Seitz of Indianapolis and Frances Rankin of Versailes, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A brother, Milford Estill, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at Central Christian Church at 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Cameron Douglas officiating. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary and 9-10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church building fund, 500 MacGahan St., Huntington IN 46750.
Justin Kirkpatrick
Justin Kirkpatrick, 4, Huntington, died Friday (July 7, 2000) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of Scott and Renee Kirkpatrick.
Arrangements are pending at the Bailey-Love Mortuary.
Elden C. Parks
Elden C. Parks, 94, Normal, Ill., died at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday (July 5, 2000) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Normal.
Mr. Parks was a former resident of Muncie. He was a teacher for 17 years, was a truck driver, IDS representative and an Amway distributor, farmer and roofing maintenance worker. He worked in and around Huntington County for several years.
He was a graduate of Crawford County High School and of Oakland City College. He was a member of Hazelwood Christian Church, Muncie, where he was a former elder and chairman and Sunday school teacher, and was a member of Centennial Christian Church, English. He also was a member of the Muncie Optimist Club.
He was born Jan. 5, 1905 in Perry County to Sylvester and Queenie Goldman Parks. His marriage was Nov. 23, 1940, in Louisville, to the former Evlyn McClurg. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Darla Hummel, Bloomington, Ill.; two grandchildren; and four sisters, Marcia Woolums, English, Othella Walton, East Peoria, Ill., Esther Faye Waggoner, Hamilton, Ohio, and Lois Kennedy, Corydon.
Calling is from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home, Bloomington. Ill., where services will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday with Rev. Randy Williams officiating.
A second service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hazelwood Christian Church, 1400 W. University Ave., Muncie, with Rev. David Cartwright officiating. There will be visitation for a half-hour prior to that service.
A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sparks Cemetery, Markle.

William D. Pontzious
William D. Pontzious, 79, 1244 Swan St., died at 10:59 p.m. Thursday (July 6, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Pontzious worked as a clerk for several trucking companies and retired in 1971. He was also a carpenter. He graduated from Marion High School in 1940 and Marion Business College in 1942.
He was born May 27, 1921 in Marion, to Danile Duane and Violet Hickman Pontzious. He married Justine Roseberry Oct. 5, 1942 in Marion. His wife survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David Lynn Pontzious, Lakeville, and Daniel Duane Pontzious, Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Mrs. Curt (Linda) Gates of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Richard (Rebecca) Dolby of New Haven; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Hart Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Grant Memorial Cemetery, Marion. Calling will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Anna R. Grigsby
Anna Ruth Grigsby, 75, formerly of Huntington, died on Monday (June 19, 2000) at her home in Sun City West, Ariz.
Mrs. Grigsby was a homemaker. A 1942 graduate of Lawrenceville High School in Illinois, she was a member of the United Methodist Church and the order of the Eastern Star Floral Chapter 75, Huntington. She also was a member of the Indiana Social Club, Sun City West Calligraphy Club and the Sun City West Sun Stitchers Club.
She was born Sept. 28, 1924, in French Lick, to William and Frances Lightner McKeighen. She was a resident of Huntington from 1957 to 1984 before moving to Sun City West.
Survivors include two sons, Steven C. Grigsby, Huntington, and Wayne S. Grigsby, Fort Wayne; a brother, Francis J. McKeighen, Huntington; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Sephfrona) Kohlhause, St. Francesville, Ill., and Mary Sparks, Gasport; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Calling will be from noon Saturday until the 2 p.m. Saturday funeral services at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Rev. Steven Ailes will officiate at the service.
Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County.

Thomas W. Dillman
Thomas W. Dillman, 85, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at 4:33 p.m. Monday (July 3, 2000) at Wells Community Hospital, Bluffton.
Mr. Dillman had lived in Anderson until moving to the Methodist Home last May. He was owner and operator of Dillman Insurance Agency, Anderson, for many years and was a Redcoat volunteer at Community Hospital in Anderson. He was a 1932 graduate of Anderson High School and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, Anderson.
He was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Anderson, to Andrew and Rheba Flemming Dillman. He married Helan Curris June 1, 1962, in Anderson. She survives.
Additional survivors include a stepdaughter, Ann Neely, Marion, and a stepgranddaughter.
Calling is from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Memorial Home, Warren, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church, Anderson, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with Rev. Justin Fisher officiating.
Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
Glancy Funeral Homes, Butler Chapel, Warren, is in charge of arrangements.
Ronald W. Lantz
Ronald W. Lantz, 61, Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday (July 4, 2000) at the Harborside Health Care Retirement Center, New Haven.
Mr. Lantz was a line supervisor at General Electric Co., Fort Wayne, retiring in 1999 after 30 years of service.
He was born Jan. 7, 1939, in Elkhart, to Edward and Louella Tyler Lantz.
Survivors include a son, Mark A. Lantz, Columbia City; two daughters, Mrs. Tyrone (Penny D.) Wilson, Fort Wayne, and Rhonda K. Haddaway, Huntington; two brothers, Lonnie Lantz, Huntington, and Ed Lantz, Plant City, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
A brother, Mike Lantz, preceded him in death.
There is no calling.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, with Rev. Tom Egolf officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
Clarence A. Simmons
Graveside services for Clarence A. “Boots” Simmons were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, with Rev. Ron Burns officiating.
Mr. Simmons, 84, 698 Posey Hill, Roanoke, died at 12:50 p.m. Monday (July 3, 2000) at the Norwood Nursing Center.
Mr. Simmons was a licensed plumber and owned Simmons Plumbing in Roanoke for 50 years. He attended the Roanoke Church of the Brethren.
He was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Kentland, to Andrew Simmons and Esther Martin Simmons. He married Ruby B. Timmons Aug. 18, 1940, in Frankfort. His wife survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jerry Simmons, Huntington; a daughter, Janet Sue Bieghler, Roanoke; two grandchildren; one step-grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Five brothers, Burt Simmons, Earl Simmons, Jim Simmons, Lawson Simmons, and Bernard Simmons, and three sisters, Venessa Gaffield, Arline Johnson, and Florence Burke, preceded him in death.
Family visitation was held at the Roanoke Memorial Chapel.
