Oliver R. Bell
Sept. 21, 1905 to June 15, 1987
Oliver R. Bell, 81, a retired Chalmers farmer died Monday, June 15, at 10:38 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette. He had been in failing health.
He was born Sept. 21, 1905, in Wayne County, Kentucky, and had been a resident of this area for 57 years and was living at R.1, Chalmers. Mr. Bell was a member of Chalmers Community Church. He was married to Minnie L. Davenport, Sept. 9, 1929, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gary W. Bell of Chalmers; and two daughters, Mrs. Robert W. (Patricia) Allen, Chalmers and Mrs. Richard L. (Beverly) Overmyer of Francesville. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Four brothers, 2 sisters preceded in death.
Services were this morning at 10 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Loren Shuman officiating. Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Wanda E. Bixler
September 20, 1922 - January 14, 2003
Wanda E. Bixler, 80, of Monticello died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at White County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Burnettsville on Sept. 20, 1922, to Elmer B. and Lillie M. Henderson Lucy. She married Floyd Ray Bixler in Burnettsville on Dec. 23, 1939. He died on October 23, 1978.
She worked at Bryan Manufacturing.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Monticello.
She lived in Monticello since 1962 and had also lived in Rochester, Warsaw and Burnettsville.
She was very interested in the genealogy of White County. She was a member of White County Historical Society and the D.A.R.
She is survived by a daughter, Sue (Terry) Oneal of Itasca, Texas; sons Richard D. (Mary) Bixler of Rochester and Ray Bixler of Idaville, nine grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Six brothers and three sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were Friday at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Pittman officiating.
Burial was in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Monticello or White County Council on Aging.
Jason 1. Brandt
Oct. 10, 1913 to Sept. 22, 1995
Jason I. Brandt, 81, Chalmers, died Friday, Sept. 22, in his home. He had been in failing health three years.
He was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Lucerne to Russell and Olive Batty Brandt. He moved from Lucerne to Chalmers, when he was 4 years old. He graduated from Chalmers High School in 1931 and attended Purdue University. He was married May 19, 1958, to Jo Kaiser, in Murfreesboro, Tenn. and she survives. He was a First Lieutenant with the 276th Engineer Combat Battalion in World War II, serving in central Europe. He was a engineer for the Indiana Highway Department and head of maintenance for the LaPorte District from 1938-1944. He owned Chalmers Lumber Company from 1945 until he retired in 1980. He was a member of Chalmers Community Church, a member and past commander of Chalmers American Legion and a member of Brookston Masonic Lodge. He served eight years as Big Creek Trustee, was sexton for Chalmers Community Cemetery
and was a former Frontier School Board member.
Surviving with his wife are four nieces and four nephews.
Services were Monday at 11 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. William Henderson officiating. Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery
where graveside military rites were conducted by Chalmers American Legion.

Thelma J. Broughton
February 24, 1935 - January 3, 2003
Thelma J. Broughton, 67 of Burnettsville, died Friday, January 3, 2003 at Twin Lakes Village.
She was born in Lebanon, Mo., on February 24, 1935, to William Henry and Sidney Mae Papen Richardson. She married Darrell Broughton on May 1, 1953, in Logansport. He survives.
She was a homemaker. She had been employed by Logansport State Hospital and RCA.
She was a member of Burnettsville First Baptist Church.
Surviving with her husband are a son, William A. (Michele) Broughton of Auburn, Wash.; daughters, Linda A. Hall of Middleton, Delores J. (Alan) Shartzer of Lewisville, Texas and Kathy M. (Joe) Heath of Brookston; brothers, Clifford Richardson of Lebanon, Mo., and Orville Richardson of Rockford, Ill.; sisters, Edna Vardaman of LaPorte, In., Patricia Kruse of Hazelwood, Mo., and Shirley Willis of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Monday at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Logansport, with Pastor Michael L. Williams officiating.
Burial was at Davis Cemetery, near Burnettsville.
Memorials may be made to Burnettsville First Baptist Church.
Marjorie Mae Brown
October 13, 1919 - November 19, 2002
Marjorie Mae Brown, 83, of Lansing, Illinois and formerly of McCoysburg and Monon area, died November 19, 2002 in Wm. J. Riley Memorial Residence in Munster, In.
She was born October 13, 1919 in Monon to Wayne and Verneice (Gray) Smith.
She was raised in the McCoysburg and Monon area. She was a 1937 graduate of Monon High School and graduated from Bryant & Station Business College in Chicago. She had been a homemaker.
Her marriage was to Bernice B. Brown who died October 14, 1979. The couple had lived in Lansing, Ill for several years..
She is survived by a daughter, Victoria (Richard) Livings, of Lansing, four brothers; Reid (Betty) Smith, Buffalo, IN, Richard (Helen) Smith of Schererville, IN., Jim Smith, of Monon, and Bob Smith of Logansport, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Funeral Services were at the Jackson Funeral Chapel in Rensselaer on Thursday, November 21, 2002 with Pastor Bill Dunfee officiating. Burial was in Osborne Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Robert D. Brown
March 15, 1944 - November 8, 2002
Robert D. Brown, 58, of Spencer, a former Buffalo resident, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at his residence.
He was born in Buffalo on March 15, 1944 to Gerald and Kathryn Talbutt Harmon.
He was a self-employed salesman.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Farkas of Bloomington; and brothers Russell Brown of Monticello and Myron Brown of Knox.
Visitation was held on Monday at Chandler Funeral Home, Ellettsville. A graveside service was Monday at Chambersville Cemetery
near Spencer.
Robert S. Bulington
December 16, 1929 - February 22, 2003
Robert S. Bulington, 73, of Attica (Independence), died Saturday, February 22, 2003 at his residence.
He was born in Monon, Ind., on December 16, 1929. He was the son of George Stanley and Dora May Clark Bulington.
He was raised in White County and attended Monon High School. He later lived in Tippecanoe County for nine years, Jasper County for five years and moved to Warren County in 1965. He had resided in Independence since 1974.
He married Ruth R. Hughes, or October 22, 1949 in Monon, Ind. She survives.
Mr. Bulington formerly worked for the Monon Railroad. He worked for 17 years for the Indiana State Highway Department where he was a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1992. He had also worked as a farm hand and drove trucks.
He enjoyed raising Long Horn cattle, making hay and raising llamas for enjoyment. He loved being with his family.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Robert D. (Jessie) Bulington of Independence, Ind; G. Stephen (Beth) Bulington of Nashville, GA, Kevin L (Cheryl) Bulington of Lafayette, Edward B. (Yvette) Bulington of Independence; four daughters, Carol R. (David) Morris, West Point, Karen M. Mitchell, Borden, Ind, Luana B. (James L.) Watkins of Winthrop, Kathy J. Biddle, of Crawfordsville; two sisters Lois M. Lindquist of Monticello and Ruth 0. (Jack) Sizemore, Swazey, Ind; five brothers, Edwin G. (Faith) Bulington of LaCrosse, Lowell Lynn (Darlene) Bulington, of Tucson, AZ, Morris G. (Jennie) Bulington of Monon, Zelith D. (Joyce) Bulington of Marion, Roger C. Bulington of New York, NY; 24 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Pearl E. Frederick and a brother Thomas Creighton Bulington.
Funeral services were Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Daniel Jordan officiating. Burial was in Independence Cemetery.

Lois "Dunnie" Schroyer
June 6, 1927 - July 19, 2001
Lois B. "Dunnie" Schroyer, 74, of West Lafayette, the mother of a Brookston resident, died Thursday, July 19, 2001. She had been in ill health for 2½ years.
She was born in Hanford City, Ind. on June 6, 1927. She married Robert W. Secrest Jr., in Hartford City on June 30, 1946.
Her second marriage was to Edgar C. Schroyer, Jr., on December 31, 1966. He died November 25, 1972.
She had been a resident of Lafayette since 1946.
She was a secretary for the Purdue Athletic Department for over 25 years and retired in 1991.
She enjoyed writing poetry, fishing and Purdue sports.
She is survived by a daughter Jill (Donald) Uselton of Brookston; a brother, Thomas Bowdell of Hartford City; and a sister, Norma Jean "Nean" Overmeyer of Hartford City.
Services were held at Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette on Monday with Pastor Rose Terry officiating.
Entombment was at Tippecanoe Gardens in West Lafayette.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Ida Tyler Swan
October 27, 1904 - June 27, 1995
Ida Tyler Swan, 90, of Remington died Tuesday, June 27, in Home Hospital in Lafayette. She had been ill for two weeks.
Mrs. Swan was a telephone operator for several years and she worked part time at George Ade Hospital at Brook and Campus Inn Motel in Lafayette.
Born October 27, 1904 near Remington, she lived in the area most of her life and had spent winters in Palmetto, Florida. She was educated in Remington Schools and Lafayette Business College.
She married Hartley Tyler on June 4, 1932, in Remington, and he died June 3, 1961. They farmed near Remington for many years. On July 14, 1979 she married Harold G. Swan, and he survives.
Mrs. Swan was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dorcas Club, Order of Eastern Star and Garden Club, all in Remington. Her hobbies were ceramics and oil painting.
Also surviving are a son, Larry Tyler of Hartford City; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Bowman of Remington and Mrs. Peter (Karen) Hill of Newark, Del.; two stepsons, Herb Swan of Owosso, Mich, and Harold Swan of Shiawassee, Mich; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Harold (Viola) Tejkl and Mrs. Frank (Donna) Hall, both of Florida, Lois Tejkl and Arlene Vuckzik, both of Owosso. She also had 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The funeral was Friday at the United Methodist Church in Remington with Rev. Kenneth Walter officiating. Burial was in Remington Cemetery. Stitz Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
