William "Bill" Luse
January 16, 1919 - February 27, 2003
William "Bill" Luse, 84, of Monticello died Thursday, February 27, 2003 at his daughter's residence in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Captain "Bill" Luse was born at Monticello on January 16, 1919, to William and Erma (Malone) Luse. He married Margaret Jane VanMeter at Monticello on July 15, 1938. She survives.
He built the Madam Carroll and captained the boat for 22 years.
Luse and Son Enterprises built the Skyride at Indiana Beach and the Skyride at one of the Lake of the Ozarks. Luse and Son Enterprises also built the Antique Cars at Indiana Beach and he also put in the original Boardwalk at Indiana Beach. They also started the go-karts at Indiana Beach.
Twin Lakes Enterprises, [of] which he was also the owner and operator, built the steel seawalls for Lake Shafer and Lake Freeman for more than 20 years.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Masons and Shriners, all of Monticello. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Other survivors include daughters, Donna Smith and Beverly (Richard) Greene, both of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Barbara Clawson of Yeoman; a son Bill (Judy) Luse, Jr., of Monticello; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Jerry Luse, Kenny Luse and Ralph Luse and a sister Mary Pohl are deceased.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Moore officiating.
Burial was at Hughes Cemetery, Monticello.

Betty (Wright) Lutes
November 3, 1920 - May 6, 1999
Betty (Wright) Lutes, 78, 703 W. Harrison St., Monon, died Thursday. May 6, at 6:15 pm. in the Parkview Haven Retirement Home, Francesville.
She was born Nov. 3, 1920 to James and Minnie Bell Langford Holiday. in Luverne, Alabama. She was married Jan. 22, 1994, to Chester Lutes in Monon and he survives.
She had resided in Monon and Francesville most of her life.
She had been employed in interior decorating as a painter and wallpaper hanger
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Francesville.
Surviving with her husband are a son, David Day of Blythesyille, Ohio; a sister, Nell Gainey of Luverne, Ala.; a grandchild and a great grandchild
Funeral services were Saturday, in Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home, Francesville, with Jim Ketchen officiating.
Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
Bruce L. Lybrook
June 8, 1965 - April 13, 2001
Bruce L. Lybrook, 35, of Delphi, died Friday, April 13, at his residence.
He was born June 8, 1965, to Daniel and Linda Lachenmaier Lybrook, in Lafayette, and they survive.
He was a 1983 graduate of Delphi Community High School and a 1985 graduate of Lincoln Tech College in Indianapolis, where he earned an associate's degree in business management and a minor in automotive technology.
He had worked for Morning Star Fertilizer in Camden for three months. He had been employed by CFS Fertilizer in Rossville and had Carroll County Automotive in Delphi for 14 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and auto racing.
Surviving with his parents, who live in Delphi, are two brothers, David A. Lybrook, Delphi and Darryl (Michelle) Lybrook, Chalmers; maternal grandmother, Frances Lachenmaier, Delphi; two nephews and two nieces.
His paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather are deceased-.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in the Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, with Pastor Dan Gottschaik officiating.
Burial was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg.
Memorials may be given to Carroll County 4-H programs or the Indiana conservation Officers Organization Youth Camp.
Velma J. Lyon
July 13, 1931 - August 7, 1989
Mrs. Velma J. Parker Lyon, 58, Brookston, died Monday at 3:30 p.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born July 13, 1931, in LaPorte She was an inspector at CTS Microelectronics for 10 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Doriann Siuda, Michigan City and Mrs. Trisha Bellah, Brookston; and two sons, Frank Douglas, Waukegan, Ill. and Stuart Parker, Brookston. Also five grandchildren survive.
Service was 11 a.m. today at Root Funeral Home, Michigan City. Cremation will follow with inurnment at a later date.
Rogene (Oilar) Madison

Rogene O. Madison, 76, a native of Brookston, who was living in Leesburg, FL, died Monday, June 12, 2000 in Florida.
She was a bookkeeper with Public Utility before her retirement.
She was a member of Morrison United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
Her marriage was to Homer D. Madison, and he survives.
Also surviving are a son, James M. Madison of Morgantown W. Va. and one brother, Max Oilar of Largo, FL.
Memorial Service for family and friends Thursday, June 29, 2000 at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston with Rev. James Dimick officiating.
Interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery
in Brookston.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of Hospice.
Jack R. Madlung
May 15, 1916 - December 27, 1998
Jack R. Madlung, 82, 520 E South St., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 at 11:20 a.m. at Monticello Healthcare Center. He had been resident of the center since October.
He was born on May 15, 1916 in White County to Henry C. and Eva V. Capper Madlung. He married Jean Pond on Jan. 1, 1946 in Indianapolis. She survives.
He was a 1934 graduate of Monon High School and attended Purdue University.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from Jan 14, 1941 to May 1945.
He became a prisoner of war during World War II on Nov. 21, 1944, when his airplane was shot down over Germany. He was among prisoners forced to march on the "Death March" from Poland to Germany with German soldiers while German troops tried to escape capture by Russia. He was not rescued by American troops until May 1945.
He was not awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries until 1955 because his injury records from Germany were lost.
He moved to Monticello from Indianapolis in 1955.
He was a locomotive engineer or L & N Railroad and retired in 1978 after 36 years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello since 1955 and was a former Deacon.
He was also a member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club, White County Shrine Club, Libanus Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite.
He was a member of the Monticello American Legion and a charter member of the Indiana Chapter of Ex-POW.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Nancy C. Zeller of Greenville, NC, and Cherie E. Ross of Indianapolis; a son, Randy J. Madlung of Monticello; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Gerald Stevens officiating. Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. A Masonic Service was held Tuesday.
Burial was at Crown Hill Cemetery
in Indianapolis with military Rites.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church.
Elizabeth A. Wilkinson Mahin
December 13, 1925 - July 23, 1997
Elizabeth A. Bette Wilkinson Mahin, 71, Tampa, Florida (lived during the summer months in Chalmers), died Wednesday, July 23, 1997 following surgery for a broken hip from a fall in her Chalmers home. She died at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born December 13, 1925 in Lafayette to Richard and Vesta Farabee Culp Wilkinson. She married Ralph Mahin on October 13, 1943 in Brookston. She was a homemaker.
She was a 1943 graduate of Brookston High School and attended Western Womens College in Oxford, Ohio for 2 years.
Survivors include her husband Ralph Mahin of Tampa; 1 daughter Mrs. David (Lisa) Champlain of Cape Coral, Florida; a grandson and 2 step-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held in Remington Cemetery
in Remington, Ind. on July 29th for family and friends. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the service.

Ralph Holwerda Mahin
March 16, 1896 - July 20, 1987
Word has been received here of the death of Ralph Holwerda Mahin, 91, at Town and Country Convalescent Center, Tampa, Florida, on July 20, 1987 at 12:20 p.m., where he had been a patient since Jan. 1, 1987. Mr. Mahin resided at 3811 North Oak Drive, Apartment E-11, Tampa, Florida 33811 since Feb. 1983, moving to Tampa from Badenton, Florida where he had been a winter resident since 1952. He was born at Battle Ground, Ind. on March 16 1896 to Mary Jane Holwerda Mahin and August Eddy Mahin. His marriage was to Margaret Dawes Cowdin on Dec. 28, 1921 at Monticello, Ind. He was a long time farmer in the Brookston, Ind. community until his full retirement 14 years ago. Mr. Mahin was responsible for organizing the White County Rural Electric Corp. Co-operative in 1939. He served as President of the R.E.M.C. until his retirement. He was active in White County Farm Bureau and the White County Farm Bureau Co-op for many years while an active farmer. He was member and Past Master of the Brookston Lodge F. & A.M. No. 68 subsequently affiliated with Libanus Lodge No. 154 Monticello, Ind., a member of Scottish Rite and Egypt Temple Shrine, both at Tampa, Florida. Mr. Mahin is survived by his wife, Margaret, one son, Ralph Cowdin Mahin, daughter-in-law, Bette Wilkinson Mahin, granddaughter, Lisa Ranae (Mrs. David Champlain), great grandson, Justin Grant Champlain, all of Tampa, Florida. Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death. A daughter, Imogene Mahin, died Dec. 21, 1943 at age 10 at Brookston, Ind. A memorial service will be held at Brookston, Ind. at a later date. Time and place will be announced. Cremains will be interred on the family plot at Delphi, Ind. following the Memorial Service. Mr. Mahin, although not a member, was affiliated through family ties with the Badger Grove Church. Future arrangements by Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, Ind.
Albert R. Mahlke
March 29, 1929 - November 22, 2000
Albert R. Mahlke, 71, of Lafayette, died Wednesday, Nov. 22. in Home Hospital.
He was born March 29, 1929, in Lafayette and was a 1947 graduate of Monon High School. He lived in Brookston from 1953 until coming to Lafayette in 1962.
Mr. Mahlke was a machinist at Fairfield Manufacturing Co. for 43-1/2 years, retiring Dec. 20, 1990. An Army veteran of the
Korean War, he served from 1950 until 1952. He was a life member of the DAV.
He married Louise M. Burnau, Aug. 4, 1951, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Susan K. Rice (husband Neal) of Oak Creek, Wis., and Karen. S. Senn (husband Mark) of Lafayette; and five brothers, Edward Mahlke of Greenwood, Ralph Mahlke, Tucson, Ariz., Leonard Mahlke, Paw Paw, Ill. and Robert Mahlke and Ronald Mahlke, both of Lafayette.
