CHARLES C. NELSON
Charles C. Nelson, 79, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, at Regency Hospital of Northwest Arkansas.
He was born July 4, 1925, to Walter Nelson and Ruth Radiel Nelson in Lincoln.
He was a Navy veteran serving in World War II.
Survivors include one son, Chris Nelson and wife Sherri, Rogers, Ark.; one daughter, Charla Cress and husband Fred, Liberal; three grandchildren, Jody Cress and wife Christi, Chaz Nelson and Jake Nelson; one great-grandson, Joel Cress; and his companion Pearl Quayle, Rogers, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille Nelson, two brothers, Walter Nelson and Phillip Dean Nelson, and one granddaughter, Heather Tilford.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Bentonville, Ark., with the Rev. Don Marrow presiding.
Burial will follow at Rogers City Cemetery
with full military honors provided by the Rogers American Legion Post No. 100.
Visitation is set until 4 p.m. today at the Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers, Ark.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Liberal.
JOHN E. PREEDY
SUBLETTE -- John E. Preedy, 53, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at his job in Satanta.
He was born Sept. 21, 1951, to Don Earl and Joyce Maxine (Blake) Preedy in Garden City.
He married Becki M. Hollenbaugh Oct. 2, 1971, in Garden City. She survives.
He worked for Hitch Feeders II of Satanta as a night watchman.
He was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Church of God in Satanta.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Garden City.
He loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Other survivors include his mother, Joyce Baldridge, Sublette; two daughters, Doni Lynn Preedy, Sublette, and Billie JoAnn Linden and husband Jeff, Giltner, Neb.; two grandsons, Dakota Lee Linden and Trevor Martin Linden; two brothers, Kenneth Preedy, Ulysses, and Ronnie Preedy, Sublette; one sister, Carolyn Ulin, Wichita; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, his step-father, Ralph Baldridge, and his grandparents, Walter and Wilma Preedy.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pleasant Prairie Church of God in Satanta with Pastor Lloyd Bowen presiding.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

BETTY ARTHUR
Betty Arthur, 80, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away December 23, 2004 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.
Betty LoRie Booth was born November 18, 1924 in Tyrone, Oklahoma, the daughter of Wayne and Ella Victoria Grice Booth. She attended school in Tyrone graduating from Tyrone High School with the Class of 1942.
She married James Stephen Swartz, August 6, 1942 in Guymon, Oklahoma and on November 16, 1963 in Clayton, New Mexico she was united in marriage to Fred Arthur.
They lived in Liberal, Kansas where Betty worked at Beech Aircraft for 10 years. They lived in Colorado City, Texas. Fred passed away in 1995. Betty moved to Hooker, Oklahoma in 1997.
She was a member of Marshall Drive Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska; she loved traveling and camping, was an avid reader and in her 60's she took up golf.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a granddaughter Robbie Gayle Stevens; three brothers, Joseph, Tommy and Ray Booth; four sisters, Hazel Jones, Lilly Dummer, Mildred Grice and Mary Propois.
Survivors include her son, James Richard and Jill Swartz of Tyrone; two daughters, Patricia and Frank Elliott of Houston, Texas and Betty Gayle and Darrel Stevens of Omaha, Nebraska; a brother, Robert Lee and Henriella Booth of Tyrone, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at the Tyrone Baptist Church in Tyrone, Oklahoma with Pastor Jim Maynard officiating. Interment will be in the Tyrone Cemetery
directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma.

JOSEPH PITTMAN
Joseph "Joe" Pittman, 94, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Southwest Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 26, 1910, to Porter and Maud (Woodruff) Pittman in Prairie Grove, Ark.
He married Beatrice Evelyn Blakemore Feb. 28, 1931, in Beaver, Okla. She died Sept. 17, 1973.
He was a 1928 graduate of Prairieville High School in Prairie Grove, Ark., and attended one year at Fayetteville Business School in Fayetteville, Ark.
He worked for Blakemore's Grocery. In 1943, he became owner/operator of Pittman Grain Company and also was a farmer and rancher retiring in 1973.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and served as chairman of the deacons and building committee for many years.
He was a former member of the Liberal Lions Club and founder and member of the Liberal Trail Riders.
He also was a former Liberal City Commissioner and Mayor, board member and served as chairman of Epworth Hospital, board member and served as chairman of the Board of Liberal Schools, Board of Directors of First National Bank of Liberal, Bank of Satanta and Forgan State Bank.
He helped establish the Liberal Bee Jay baseball team.
Survivors include one son, Richard Pittman and wife Nancy, Liberal; one daughter, Marjorie Ann Brown and husband Jerry, Ardmore, Okla.; six grandchildren, Christopher Pittman, Richelle Harnish, Dr. Tanya Pittman, Dr. Bradley Pittman, Kendra Irvin and Betty Jo Brown; four step-grandchildren, Mike Wares, Mark Wares, Robert Bronson and Cheryl Bronson; nine great-grandchildren, Dustin Pittman, Krystal Pittman, Breanna Pittman, Cody Pittman, Katrina Harnish, Brandon Harnish, Dylan Harnish, Lucas Parks and McKenzie Parks; one brother, Bill Pittman and wife Marian, Liberal; one sister, Mary Sue Davis and husband Leonard, Liberal; one daughter-in-law, Jill Pittman, Liberal; and one sister-in-law, Opal Pittman, Liberal.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Pittman, one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Pittman, one grandson, Robert Pittman, two brothers, Robert and Sam Pittman, and one sister, Clemintine Pittman.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bagwell presiding.
Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.
Calling time will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with the family to greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home.

LUCY J. PATTON
HUGOTON -- Lucy J. Patton, 86, died Dec. 25, 2004, at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.
She was born Sept. 3, 1918, to Ellis Lewis and Jessie Maude (Baltzell) Silvey in Baca County, Colo.
She first married Clifford Failes and later married Paul Patton. They both preceded her in death.
She was a merchant owning and operating Walsh Creamery, Walsh Laundry and several cafes, the most known was Wonder Burger.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Hugoton.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Terry Failes and wife Dixie, Hooker, Okla., Judy Cerecero and husband Claude, Hugoton, Richard Failes and wife Jana, Coweta, Okla., and Clifford Failes and wife Melissa, Las Vegas; seven great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and many relatives and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Erwin Leroy Failes; three brothers, Everett Silvey and two infant brothers and one sister, Eleanor Nicodemus.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Assembly of God Church in Hugoton with the Rev. Robert Bailey presiding.
Burial will be in the Walsh Cemetery
in Walsh, Colo.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Paul's Funeral Home in Hugoton.

BERTIE R. BROWN
ULYSSES -- Bertie Ray Brown, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
He was born Aug. 1, 1927, to Jesse and Evan Annie (Steelman) Brown at Hardwood, Okla.
He married Dovie O. Lee Feb. 1, 1953, in Coalgate, Okla.
He moved from McAlester, Okla., to Kinsley and then moved to Ulysses in 1958. He was a farm laborer, working for several farmers in the area. In 1986, he became a partner with Richard and Maxie Coffey under the name of R & C partnership.
He was a member of the V.F.W. in Ulysses.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Ray Brown and wife Deborah, Ulysses, Davy Arlen Brown, Eureka, Calif., Jeffrey Allen Brown and wife Roberta, Freedom, Okla.; one daughter, Penny Joyce Gierek and husband Tom, Eureka, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Brown, Commerce, Texas; six sisters, Mavis Gwinn and husband Sisroe, Cottonwood, Okla., Leota "Topsy" Guinn and husband Vester, Coalgate, Okla., Josie Bell Nickell and husband L.D., Woodland, Calif., Lola Foskett and husband Charles, Longview, Texas, Loyce Beal and husband Billy, Tupelo, Okla. and Joyce Guinn, Coalgate, Okla.; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jesse B. and Danny Brown and two sisters, Sandy Floyd and Imogene Davis.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grant County Funeral Home in Ulysses with Minister Gary Gregory presiding. Military graveside services will be at Ulysses Cemetery.

DON A. SNYDER
ELKHART -- Don Arnold Snyder, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 23 2004, in Charlotte, N.C.
He was born to Cromwell and Rachel Snyder.
He married Martha Snyder. She survives.
He was raised in Wilburton.
He earned a degree in chemical engineering from Kansas State University and was a lieutenant in the Navy. After World War II, he returned home to farm in Wilburton with his father. He loved to fly and owned several single-engine planes, raced midget race cars, rode motorcycles and played the trumpet. He spent many hours at the Elkhart Golf Course with his friends and loved animals.
Other survivors include two sons, Jay Snyder and wife Brenda, Carrollton, Texas and Kirk Snyder and wife Susan, Oakland, Calif; two daughters, Geri Snyder, Issaqua, Wash., and Tina Zeman and husband Joe, Charlotte, N.C.; and one grandson, Cary Snyder.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Elkhart.
Burial will follow in the Elkhart Cemetery.
KENNETH H. ANDERSON
Johnson -- Kenneth Harold "Kenny" Anderson, 63, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at his residence in Johnson.
He was born April 5, 1941, to George Harold and Leona Fay (Daniels) Anderson in Hugoton.
He married Carol Ann Swartley July 11, 1965, in Garden City. She survives.
He served as a postmaster in Johnson from 1963 until he retired in 1992.
He served in the United States Army from 1960 until he was honorably discharged in 1963.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Garden City.
He was a member of the VFW and Masonic Lodge No. 441, both of Johnson. He was also a Shriner and was a member of the Post Office Association.
Other survivors include his mother; one son, Aaron Anderson, Johnson; one daughter, Tammy Poe and husband Jeff, Johnson; one brother, George Anderson, Ulysses; one sister, Carolyn Groninga and husband Ken, Iowa Falls, Iowa; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, father and mother-in-law, Harold and Edna Swartley and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Glenn Fogo presiding. --
Graveside services with Masonic Rites will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Valley View Cemetery
in Garden City.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. --

Genevina "Jenny" Jones, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton.
She was born May 17, 1919, to E.E. and Ida M. Stansberry Jones in Beaver County, Okla.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Liberal Cemetery
with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding.

HERBERT R. PARSONS
Herbert R. Parsons, 98, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Va.
Services are pending with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home of Hooker, Okla.
FRANCIS "DEAN" BLAGRAVE
Francis "Dean" Blagrave, 63, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at his residence in Liberal following an extended illness.
Dean was born August 19, 1941. -- He was married to Mary "Jeanie" on May 15, 1961. -- Jeanie survives him.
Funeral arrangements announced by Miller Mortuary.
Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery, Liberal.
