Darrell L. BECK Sr.

Darrell L. BECK Sr. died Nov. 11, 2007, at his residence. He was 97.
Darrell was born
Sept. 5, 1910, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Jesse Beck and Mary Burris Beck. He was raised in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School. He attended the Pella College one year before returning to the family businesses during the Depression. He farmed and ran the local auto dealership with his father in Atlantic.
On Aug. 3, 1935, he married
Cecilia Pogge in Omaha, Nebraska.
During WWII, Darrell went to work with the Bomber Plant in Omaha, Nebraska. He was an expediter, securing metal for B-29 manufacturing. He then went to work for General Motors Finance Services, structuring loans for the heavy truck division. In addition, Darrell was an experimental driver for General Motors. He was provided with a new test vehicle quarterly to pilot new engines, mechanics and lubricants before they were implemented to the marketplace.
After years of travel and time from his home, he embarked on a career in financial services. He went to work for the Associates, a finance company, largely providing loans for business and homes. He managed a number of offices in the West and Midwest for a number of years before retiring from the company.
Darrell then opened his own finance company in Longmont, Arrow Loan and Finance. He provided both business and personal loans to the community until his retirement in 1975.
Darrell was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a life member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, #1055, Longmont. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, traversing the entire continental United States in his automobile. He was proud to have attended the Indianapolis 500 with his father and sister in 1932.
Preceding him in death were his wife and three sisters.
Surviving are his son Darrell Jr. and his wife Danielle of Longmont; three daughters, Mary Pasco and her husband Lew of Westminster, CO, Martha Southworth and her husband Robert of Lake Bay, Washington, and Beverly Pol and her husband Jose of Seattle, Washington; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
At his request, his body has been donated to science.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at the Howe Mortuary Chapel, with Reverend Mickey Flaska officiating. Elks Ritual Services will be performed by B.P.O.E. #1055.

Adelyn Ruth BURDICK

Adelyn Ruth BURDICK, age 97, passed away Nov. 6, 2007, in Ellensburg. She was born
in Spencer, Wisconsin, on Aug. 4, 1910, to George and Flora Clark. They moved to Lyons, Colorado, where Adelyn attended local schools and then graduated from Lyons High School in 1928. She later married
Roy Burdick and spent the next 65 years together raising a family until his passing in 1998.
Adelyn was a brilliant businesswoman and used her skills in many professions. The most notable was her position as Postmaster, for the U.S. Postal Service in Lyons, Colorado. She had a bright mind and quick wit that always kept all around her laughing. She was active in her community and church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Adelyn is survived by her three children, J.C. Burdick and his wife Pat, Roylyn Gordon and her husband Bill, Dorothy Moores and her husband Rod; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, parents, two brothers and one sister.
George Robert KRISCHE
June 18, 1926 — Nov. 7, 2007
Mass of Christian burial for George Robert “Bob” Krische, 81, Lawrence, KS, was held on Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center. Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
He died Nov. 7, 2007, at his home.
Mr. Krische was born
June 18, 1926, in Topeka, KS, the son of Frank Philip and Theresa Moritz Krische.
He attended St. Joseph Parochial School in Topeka and graduated from Capitol Catholic High School in 1943. He attended the University of Kansas, San Diego State College and Washburn University. Bob was awarded life membership of the Knights of Columbus, where he had served as Grand Knight. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and had also been involved in the Cursillo movement.
Mr. Krische had worked in a defense plant in California; helped survey the land for Cedar Bluff Dam in Kansas and Enders Dam in Nebraska; worked for the Kansas Highway Department for a number of years; and later managed a shower door manufacturing plant in Columbus, NE.
Moving to Lawrence in 1960, he established and managed Craftman Shower Door Manufacturing Co., Craftman Marble Co., Carpet King Co. and later Kansas Flooring, Inc. until he retired in 2004.
He married
Donna M. Wehmeier on Aug. 21, 1950, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Topeka. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Nancy Krische, Lawrence, Susan and her husband Dan Fogo, Lakewood, CO; three sons, Thomas, Edwardsville, KS, Daniel and his wife Jeanne, Longmont, CO, Robert and his wife, Debra, Baldwin City; son-in-law, George Heiman; two brothers, Edward, Topeka and Bernard, Escondido, CA; two sisters, Eleanor Kreipe, Milwaukee, OR, and Dorothy Evans, San Diego, CA. Also, 17 grandchildren, Brian, Catherine, Matthew, James, Theresa, Vincent, Michael, Elizabeth, Laura, Amy, Matthew, Lisa, Andrew, Josephine, Luke, Nathan and Veronica; 12 great-grandchildren, Michael, Lily, Grace, Emma, Alissa, Emilie, Elienor, Benjamin, Lucas, Andrew, Joshua and Natalie. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Heiman; and two grandchildren, Joseph and Mary Krische.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice Care of Douglas County, Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Larry M. Slifer, Marion
1941 - 2005
Wichita — Larry M. Slifer, 63, Marion, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Robert J. Dole Medical Center in Wichita. He was cremated.
He was born
May 9, 1941, in Florence, the son of Cecil and Sadie Amanda Marie Persyn Slifer.
Mr. Slifer was a residential construction contractor.
Survivors include two sons, Danny, Lawrence, and Henry, Marion; three daughters, Janette Dickerson, Ottawa, Shana Slifer, Newton, and Lari Slifer, Lawrence; two brothers, Lanny Slifer, Ottawa, and Gary Slifer, Oregon; and 13 grandchildren.
Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.
Lindley A. "Lynn" Brien, Lawrence
1930 - 2005
Services for Lindley A. "Lynn" Brien, 75, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Military graveside services will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Brien died Thursday, April 21, 2005, at his home.
He was born
Feb. 25, 1930, in rural Brown County, the son of George and Mary Schick Brien. He moved to Lawrence in 1943.
Mr. Brien served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He owned Brien Plumbing Inc. and was a plumbing contractor for 52 years. He was a life member of Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 American Legion, and Alford-Clarke Post 852 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Lawrence Masonic Lodge 6 A.F. and A.M. and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Lawrence. He was a local American Legion commander in 1957, served as district commander in 1964 and 1965 and worked American Legion bingo sessions for many years.
He married
Bernice "Bea" Rinke Mueller on Nov. 1, 1968, in Lawrence. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Bradley Mueller, Seattle, Samuel, Topeka, and Mike, Lawrence; a daughter, Bianca Reed, Lawrence; a sister, Mary Ann Bromley, St. Joseph, Mo., a brother, Walter, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Suellen Freundorfer, Topeka
1947 - 2005
Topeka — Services for Suellen Freundorfer, 58, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel in Topeka.
Mrs. Freundorfer died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in Topeka of complications from surgery.
She was born
Feb. 15, 1947, in Atchison, the daughter of Floyd and Betty Sappington.
Mrs. Freundorfer was active in her local P.E.O. chapter DV and most recently served as first vice president of the Topeka Cooperative Board.
She married
Roman Freundorfer on Nov. 30, 1968. He died Oct. 8, 2002.
Survivors include a son, Roman Freundorfer, Topeka; a daughter, Elizabeth Freundorfer, Topeka; and a sister, Jane Garvin, Lawrence.

Beula V. Clark, Eudora
1911 - 2005
Eudora — Services for Beula V. Clark, 94, Eudora, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery.
Mrs. Clark died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Eudora Nursing Center.
She was born
Jan. 27, 1911, in Estancia, N.M., the daughter of Vern and Viola Buckelew Block. She moved from New Mexico to Eudora two years ago.
Mrs. Clark was a homemaker and Sunday school teacher.
She married
Ashby E. Clark on March 5, 1930, in Belen, N.M. He died in 1982.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Clark, Belen, N.M., Roy L. Clark and William E. Clark, both of Carbondale; four daughters, Lois Bannister, Eudora, Grace Allen, Los Lunas, N.M., Ruth Clock, Admire, and Lorene Clopp, Virgil; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday before the services.

Margaret E. Blaker, Lawrence
Services for Margaret E. Blaker, 82, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be in Reno Cemetery in Leavenworth County.
Mrs. Blaker died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at the Windsor of Lawrence.
Survivors include a son, Norman L. Blaker, Katy, Texas; a brother, Art Hastert, Leavenworth; a sister, Rosie Stifter, Greeley; a niece, Donna Kochanski, Ozawkie; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Wanda Nell Bruggeman, Sabetha
1936 - 2005
Sabetha — Services for Wanda Nell Bruggeman, 68, Sabetha, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Albany Cemetery north of Sabetha.
Mrs. Bruggeman died Monday, April 18, 2005, at her home.
She was born
May 21, 1936, in Lawrence, the daughter of Theodore and Marion Sorensen Davis. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in 1954 and St. Luke's Nursing School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1957. She later lived in Lawrence and Frankfurt, Germany, before moving to Sabetha in 1959.
Mrs. Bruggeman was a school nurse for Sabetha-Wetmore USD 441 for 29 years. She later volunteered for seven years at Sabetha Community Preschool. She also worked at Sabetha Community Hospital and Clinic. She attended Tonganoxie Friends Church and First United Methodist Church in Sabetha, where she helped with youth groups and Sunday school.
She married
Robert Gene Bruggeman on Jan. 26, 1958, in Tonganoxie. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Craig Bruggeman, Sabetha, and R. Christian Bruggeman, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Ted C. Davis Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a sister, Maridel Wittmer, Sabetha; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.
