Leo Cummings

Services for Leo Melvin Cummings, 85, who died Feb. 1, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Ken Davidson officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Vocal selections were recordings of "Go Rest High on That Mountain" by Vince Gill and "I'm Just a Country Boy" by Don Williams.

Honorary casket bearers were Sherry Kay Adsmond, Catina Cooper, Alvin Cummings, Irl Fife, Charlene Jones, Sandy Nally, Larry Samms and Bill Sturm.

Casket bearers were Chris, Dan, Jason, Monte and Preston Cummings and George Menke.

A memorial has been established with the Youth Hunter Education Program through Sporting Friends of Cowley County.

Isabelle Maxwell

Isabelle Maxwell, 93, died Feb. 3, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Douglass Cemetery. Pastor Cliff Muci will officiate.

Friends may call until 8 tonight and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home, 507 S. Maple, Douglass.

A memorial has been established with Good Samaritan Village, 1320 Wheat Road, Winfield, KS 67156.

Maxwell was born March 3, 1905, to George Calvin and Jenny Maxwell. She graduated from Douglass High School in 1923.

For most of her life, Maxwell lived in Salina where she worked in the cosmetics department of Low's store. She was a charter member of Soroptimist International of Salina.

Survivors include two brothers, Gene Maxwell, Rock, and Verne Maxwell, Dallas; and two sisters, Virginia Neumann, Round Rock, Texas, and Alberta Maxwell, Winfield.

Ruby Stabler

Ruby Whited Stabler, 92, of Winfield, died Feb. 5, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to noon Monday.

A memorial has been established with Good Samaritan Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Stabler was born June 15, 1906, in Indian Territory near Kaw City, Okla., to Jim Tillman and Eathel Bray Whited. She moved with her family to the Cedar Vale area as a young girl and received her education in Cedar Vale school.

Following high school she attended Wichita Business College and was employed in business clerical work in Wichita for several years.

Following her marriage to Gordon Stabler, the couple resided in Tulsa for many years. Mr. Stabler preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stabler moved to Winfield in the early 1980s. She had resided at Good Samaritan Village since January 1995.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Flint Stabler, Winfield; and two sisters, Cleo Fuller, Mount Vernon, Mo., and Muriel Peters, Great Bend.

Vaudene Butler

Vaudene Butler, 85, of 2210 Simpson, Winfield, died Feb. 8, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. K.B. Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday.

Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and Millington Street Baptist Church.

Butler was born March 16, 1913, in Polk County, Mo., to Luther and Meda (Smith) Cox. She was raised in the Augusta area and graduated from Augusta High School.

On Feb. 22, 1939, she married Jimmie H. Butler in Burrton. They farmed in the Cowley County area, then lived in California for a year before returning to Winfield. They started Butler Brothers in 1956. Her husband died Nov. 13, 1972. Butler was co-owner of Butler Brothers Inc. and serving as president at the time of her death.

A seamstress and cook, Butler was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Don Butler, and a daughter, Janice Andes, both of Winfield; two brothers, Seabon Cox, Ojai, Calif., and Monroe Cox, Allen Park, Colo.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Raymond Ferguson

GEUDA SPRINGS - Raymond E. Ferguson, 81, of Geuda Springs, died Feb. 5, 1999, at the Presbyterian Manor Health Care Unit in Arkansas City.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Arkansas City. The Revs. Emory N. Day and Wade C. Graber will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and the Gideons. Contributions can be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Ferguson was born Aug. 25, 1917, in Alex, Okla., to William and Pearl (Collins) Ferguson. He graduated from Pond Creek (Okla.) High School in 1935.

On Aug. 28, 1938, he married Virginia Tennant in Pond Creek. They farmed in Cowley and Sumner counties for over 60 years.

In 1952 he was ordained a deacon by Slate Valley Baptist Church near Oxford. He received the Kansas Bankers Award for Soil Conservation in 1989.

Ferguson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arkansas City and the Melodears.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ferguson, Geuda Springs; three daughters, Connie Welch, Wichita, Kathy Tidd, Henderson, Ky., and Sharon Roseberry, Newton; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Dusty Asbury

MCALESTER, Okla. - Dusty Don Asbury, 26, of McAlester, formerly of Wellington and Wichita, died Feb. 7, 1999, in McAlester.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Moline Cemetery. Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Lupus Foundation of America. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Asbury was born March 11, 1972, in Wichita, to Donald Eugene and Janey Lou (Byrd) Asbury. He was raised and educated in Wichita.

He worked as a carpenter.

Asbury made his home in Wellington and Wichita before moving to Florida where he lived in Naples and Golden Gate. In 1994, he became a resident of McAlester.

Survivors include two brothers, Donald E. Asbury Jr., Tampa, Fla., and Ronald Asbury, Belle Plaine; a sister, Janey Nelson, Wichita; and his grandmother, Marie Huntington, Moline.

Merle Klein

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. - Merle Arnold Klein, 97, of Dearborn Heights, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 2, 1999, in Dearborn Heights.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mulvane Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Klein was born Jan. 18, 1902, in Augusta, to Floyd Nelson and Nancy Normandie Ashworth Arnold. She was educated in El Dorado schools.

On Dec. 24, 1919, she married Roy Klein in El Dorado. They resided in El Dorado before moving to Winfield in 1928. Klein worked as a hairdresser in her home for a number of years. The Kleins moved to Dearborn Heights in 1946. Her husband died Dec. 22, 1980.

A homemaker, she was affiliated with the American Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Musgrave, Suffolk, Va., and Ruby Bell, Wichita; five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren and five great-great-great-grandchildren.

Golda Winn

WICHITA - Golda B. Winn, 93, of Wichita, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 8, 1999.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Broadway Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Association.

Winn was born Dec. 9, 1905, in Prague, Okla., to William and Julia Tucker.

She was a retired salad maker at the Kansas Masonic Home.

Survivors include a daughter, Rena Haley, Wichita; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Lillian Raabe

OVERLAND PARK - Lillian Dorothy "Lillie" Raabe, 99, a 20-year resident of Winfield, died Feb. 8, 1999, in Overland Park.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park. Friends may call at Amos Family Chapel in Lenexa until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with St. John's Lutheran School in Elk River, Minn.

Raabe was born Nov. 7, 1899, in Elk River, Minn., to John and Magdalena Keen. She graduated from Elk River High School and worked as an operator for Bell Telephone Co.

In 1924 she married Martin B. Raabe, who taught in Elk River, St. James, Minn., and Sauk Rapids, Minn. After his death in 1961, she moved to River Forest, Ill., where she became a housemother at Concordia University.

She moved to Winfield in 1970 and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. In 1989 she moved to Overland Park.

Raabe was involved with her church throughout her life.

Survivors include two sons, the Rev. Robert M. Raabe, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mark J. Raabe, Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Rita G. Williams, Lenexa; seven grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Mike Conners, Matt Conners and Maria Worthington, all formerly of Winfield.
