Dorothy Charlton
Dorothy R. Charlton, 91, of 706 Tweed, Winfield, died Dec. 29, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Cemetery
at Newton. The Rev. Jerre Nolte will officiate.
Friends may call at Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main, Newton, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Memorials have been established with the Cumbernauld Village Van Fund and the Winfield Community Food Pantry in care of Grace United Methodist Church.
Charlton was born Oct. 1, 1908, in Walters, Okla., to Thomas H. and Bertha (Carr) Records. She grew up in Independence, Mo., where she married Louis G. Charlton on Oct. 15, 1934. He preceded her in death.
Charlton lived in Newton from 1949 to 1987 when she moved to Winfield.
A homemaker, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, William Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and, for over 20 years, Axtell Christian Hospital Auxiliary in Newton.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Charlton, Winfield; a son, Peter Charlton, Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Bob Hutto
Robert "Bob" Hutto, 69, of 1916 Johnmark Court, Winfield, died Dec. 31, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church in Winfield, Hospice Inc. and the Bella Vista, Ark., United Methodist Church.
Hutto was born Nov. 18, 1930, in Winfield, to Fred T. and Alma (Busby) Hutto. He was raised and educated in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1949.
On Aug. 1, 1952, he married Dollie Wallace in Winfield.
Hutto owned and operated Hutto Printing before retiring and moving to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1996. He had been active in the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce and Elks Lodge. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Kansas National Guard.
He returned to Winfield in September because of ill health.
Survivors include his wife, Dollie Hutto, and two sons, Ron Hutto and Mark Hutto, all of Winfield; a brother, Billy Hutto, Bella Vista, Ark.; a sister, Fredrica Leach, Arlington; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
Jerry Mahurin
RENTON, Wash. - Jerry Dean Mahurin, 59, of Renton, died Nov. 29, 1999, at Talbot Center Nursing Home in Renton.
Following cremation, his remains were sent to relatives in Kansas. A private service was held at 402 N. Sumner in Oxford.
Mahurin was born Aug. 12, 1940, in Shell Knob, Mo., to Charley and Florence (Seibert) Mahurin.
He served in the U.S. Army and then drove a truck for different companies for many years.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Mahurin, Seattle; two daughters, Seena Maria Dickerson, Springfield, Tenn., and Karee Mahurin, Greenbrier, Ark.; four brothers, Clifford Mahurin, Winfield, Charles Mahurin, Arkansas City, Gene Mahurin, Texas, and David Mahurin, Hutchinson; eight sisters, his twin, Margaret Follis, Lincoln City, Ore., Maxine Cully, Geuda Springs, Ellen Bennett and Becky Brooks, both of Blackwell, Nina Daigle, Winfield, Irene Roskydoll, Pine Bluff, Ark., Marcine Mucklow, Fort Collins, Colo., and Connie Starlin, Oxford; and four grandchildren.
Bob Hutto

Jay McClure
OXFORD - Jay B. McClure, 90, retired Udall butcher and meat market owner, died Dec. 30, 1999, at Riverview Manor in Oxford.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Udall. The Rev. Cathy Holley will officiate. Frank Funeral Home of Wellington is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Udall United Methodist Church.
McClure was born Jan. 29, 1909, in Spearville, to Jay W. and Ora Ross (Wallace) McClure.
On Nov. 19, 1932, he married Lovell E. Lowery. She died in May 1989.
He married Mary I. Garton on March 11, 1990, in Wellington.
Survivors include his wife, Mary I. McClure, Oxford; three sons, Robert N. McClure, Udall, Gerald L. McClure, Kissimmee, Fla., and Jay W. McClure, Pine, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Pat Morgan, Wellington, and Harriett Poorman, New Carlisle, Ohio; a brother, John McClure, Cassville, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Donald Clark
PONCA CITY - Donald LeRoy Clark, 61, of Ponca City, died Dec. 30, 1999, at Keystone State Park.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ed Coy Light and Tracy Schumpert officiated. Trout Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the organ fund at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1904 N. Pecan, Ponca City, OK 74601, or to the American Diabetes Association, 4425 W. Airport Freeway, Suite 130, Irving, TX 75062.
Clark was born Dec. 1, 1938, in Arkansas City, to Paul and Ella (Stevenson) Clark. He was raised in Arkansas City and graduated from high school there in 1956. He attended Arkansas City Junior College and received an associate degree in 1958.
In 1959 he joined the United States Navy and after serving for a time on the USS Ajax, stationed in Sasebo, Japan, he received a medical discharge. He returned to Kansas where he received bachelor's and master's degrees from Kansas State College in Pittsburg.
He married Donna DeWitt on Aug. 6, 1961, in Winfield.
Clark went on to earn his doctor of philosophy in education from the University of Boulder in 1971 and was a teacher in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Arkansas City. He was assistant dean of Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Mo., and dean of technical occupational education at Houston Community College.
In 1983 he and his family moved to Ponca City where he was employed by Continental Oil Co. He retired in 1994.
Clark was a 32nd degree Mason and narrated cantatas at St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Clark, Ponca City; a son, Philip Brian Clark, Tulsa; a daughter, Crystal Lynn Guardiola, Houston; his parents, Paul and Ella Clark, Arkansas City; a brother, David A. Clark, Enid, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
George Freeburg
ROCKAWAY BEACH, Mo. - George Gordon Freeburg, 74, of Rockaway Beach, formerly of Winfield, died Dec. 30, 1999, at his home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.
Freeburg was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Newton, to George and Lola Inez (Adams) Freeburg. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a retired insurance agent.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherri Humbert, Winfield, and Lola Freeburg, Rockaway Beach; a brother, Phillip Gary Freeburg, Plano, Texas; two sisters, Laura Lee Norton, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mary Margaret King, Nixa, Mo.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A son, Gary Allen Freeburg, died in 1971.
Joe JuAire
HOWARD - Billy "Joe" JuAire, 30, died Jan. 1, 2000, of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident near Fredonia.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Howard United Methodist Church. The Revs. Kibum Kim and Robin Haines will officiate. Burial will be in Cresco Cemetery
north of Howard.
A trust fund has been established for his children's education. Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home.
JuAire was born Feb. 27, 1969, in El Dorado, to F.A. "Frenchie" and Bonnie Jean (Martin) JuAire. He attended grade school at Leon and Severy and in 1987 graduated from West Elk High School in Howard.
On Feb. 17, 1989, he married Patricia K. Bronson. They later divorced.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Wyatt JuAire, and a daughter, Hannah Monique JuAire, both of Altoona; his parents, Frenchie and Bonnie JuAire, Howard; three brothers, Lee JuAire, Severy, Rex JuAire, Howard, and Jay JuAire, Wichita; a sister, Polly JuAire, Severy; and his grandparents, Butch and Wanda Dilli, Howard.
Efton Ketcherside
CHANUTE - James Efton Ketcherside, 85, of Chanute, died Jan. 2, 2000, at Park Place Healthcare and Rehabiliation Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel with Dr. Kevin Baxter officiating. Burial will be in Earlton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Ketcherside was born June 22, 1914, at Moore, Ark., to James Hilmon and Fanny (Farmer) Ketcherside. He attended school in the Ada and Tupelo, Okla., area.
On Sept. 11, 1931, he married Daisy O. Farquhar in Tupelo. She died Oct. 31, 1989.
On May 26, 1996, he married Kathryn Sue Gordon.
Ketcherside was a farmer and maintenance employee for the Kansas Department of Transportation before his retirement in 1979. He moved to western Oklahoma in the early 1940s, to Atlanta in 1953 and to Chanute in 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Ketcherside, Chanute; five sons, Huston Ketcherside, Lodi, Calif., Leroy Ketcherside, Humboldt, Don Ketcherside, Owasso, Okla., and Elvis and Gary Ketcherside, Valley Springs, Calif.; two daughters, Ruby Joyce Harrison, Iola, and Linda Murrell, Chanute; a brother, Elmo Ketcherside, Oklahoma City; four sisters, Ella Smith, Oklahoma City, Lillian LaFevers, Ada, Okla., Mildred McCourtney, Chickasha, Okla., and Avis Flannery, Manteca, Calif.; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Gene and James Ketcherside, preceded him in death.
